thy_o servant_n and_o on_o thy_o people_n that_o thou_o may_v est_fw-la know_v there_o be_v none_o like_o i_o in_o all_o the_o earth_n etc_n etc_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n for_o this_o cause_n have_v i_o keep_v thou_o to_o show_v thou_o my_o power_n and_o that_o my_o name_n may_v be_v declare_v throughout_o all_o the_o world_n here_o have_v we_o a_o evident_a cause_n why_o god_o do_v so_o long_o his_o people_n and_o for_o their_o defence_n and_o deliverance_n will_v not_o stick_v to_o break_v and_o pull_v down_o even_o mighty_a prince_n and_o people_n there_o be_v also_o a_o other_o cause_n why_o god_n do_v here_o suffer_v pharaoh_n &_o at_o other_o time_n bear_v with_o other_o grievous_a sinner_n and_o only_o for_o the_o time_n punish_v they_o with_o light_n &_o mean_a plague_n and_o this_o be_v by_o his_o great_a lenity_n sufferance_n and_o mildness_n if_o it_o may_v be_v to_o bring_v they_o to_o repentance_n or_o otherwise_o if_o they_o will_v not_o repent_v that_o they_o shall_v declare_v themselves_o to_o the_o world_n to_o be_v unexcusable_a and_o god_n in_o his_o judgement_n when_o he_o do_v confound_v they_o to_o be_v a_o just_a god_n of_o this_o cause_n speak_v destitute_a of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n of_o which_o all_o inclination_n to_o goodness_n come_v do_v more_o and_o more_o harden_n his_o heart_n and_o withstand_v the_o will_n of_o god_n for_o the_o corrupt_a nature_n of_o man_n without_o the_o singular_a grace_n of_o god_n when_o he_o hear_v god_n word_n and_o will_n declare_v to_o he_o do_v not_o only_o not_o yield_v unto_o it_o but_o more_o and_o more_o storm_v against_o both_o the_o word_n itself_o and_o the_o messenger_n that_o bring_v it_o 14._o for_o natural_a man_n understand_v not_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v of_o god_n no_o nor_o can_v wherefore_o when_o we_o see_v in_o these_o chapiters_n that_n all_o endeavour_n be_v use_v both_o by_o god_n and_o by_o his_o servant_n to_o persuade_v pharaoh_n and_o yet_o that_o he_o be_v nothing_o move_v either_o by_o his_o word_n or_o by_o his_o threaten_n or_o by_o his_o miracle_n or_o by_o the_o counsel_n and_o advertisement_n of_o moses_n and_o aaron_n yea_o or_o of_o his_o own_o subject_n we_o be_v teach_v that_o all_o the_o work_n &_o endeavour_n of_o man_n to_o bring_v sinner_n from_o their_o obstinacy_n unto_o the_o embrace_v of_o god_n holy_a will_n be_v all_o vain_a unless_o it_o please_v god_n also_o to_o work_v by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n wherefore_o we_o must_v submit_v ourselves_o to_o the_o mighty_a hand_n of_o god_n in_o his_o secret_a judgement_n and_o otherwise_o we_o must_v by_o these_o example_n learn_v that_o they_o come_v not_o by_o chance_n or_o by_o natural_a cause_n only_o but_o that_o they_o be_v send_v of_o god_n as_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o disobedience_n to_o the_o will_n and_o word_n of_o god_n 2._o and_o as_o *_o mean_v to_o bring_v we_o to_o repentance_n or_o else_o that_o god_n will_v lay_v on_o we_o continual_o the_o meaning_n be_v she_o have_v not_o those_o superfluity_n that_o all_o woman_n natural_o have_v so_o long_o as_o they_o by_o age_n may_v have_v child_n as_o her_o chastity_n be_v to_o be_v reverence_v so_o be_v it_o a_o great_a blame_n and_o fault_n in_o she_o not_o only_o to_o *_o mistrust_n the_o promise_n of_o god_n 18._o but_o also_o to_o laugh_v it_o to_o scorn_n because_o it_o seem_v unlikely_a to_o natural_a reason_n and_o the_o man_n rise_v up_o from_o thence_o look_v towards_o sodom_n 19_o etc_n etc_n abraham_n perform_v that_o which_o be_v the_o three_o part_n of_o hospitality_n that_o be_v courtesy_n in_o dismiss_v his_o gest_n he_o take_v not_o his_o leave_n of_o they_o at_o his_o tent_n but_o perceive_v their_o journey_n towards_o sodom_n go_v part_n of_o the_o way_n with_o they_o which_o his_o pain_n god_n well_o requite_v open_v to_o he_o by_o his_o angel_n the_o purpose_n to_o destroy_v sodom_n for_o the_o horrible_a sin_n and_o wickedness_n may_v not_o only_o live_v virtuous_o and_o godly_a while_o they_o be_v child_n and_o servant_n under_o they_o but_o after_o their_o life_n too_o but_o father_n now_o a_o day_n be_v far_o from_o this_o care_n they_o devise_v how_o to_o *_o leave_n their_o child_n rich_a and_o wealthy_a 16_o but_o of_o the_o instruction_n and_o teach_n how_o to_o keep_v the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n they_o have_v god_n know_v so_o small_a regard_n as_o though_o it_o do_v nothing_o appertain_v unto_o they_o and_o the_o lord_n say_v 21._o because_o the_o cry_n of_o sodom_n and_o gomorrha_n be_v great_a etc_n etc_n there_o be_v a_o double_a cry_n that_o sound_v in_o the_o ear_n of_o the_o lord_n the_o one_o be_v the_o cry_n of_o wickedness_n and_o sin_n and_o that_o be_v it_o the_o angel_n here_o speak_v his_o people_n to_o understand_v both_o that_o the_o invasion_n of_o their_o enemy_n that_o shall_v come_v upon_o they_o be_v only_o at_o the_o appointment_n &_o call_v of_o god_n and_o that_o they_o be_v therein_o the_o minister_n and_o *_o executioner_n of_o his_o justice_n 9_o and_o also_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v able_a by_o no_o mean_n to_o escape_v the_o danger_n thereof_o either_o by_o their_o strong_a &_o sense_v city_n or_o otherwise_o in_o these_o word_n and_o destroy_v they_o not_o utter_o god_n limit_v the_o power_n of_o the_o enemy_n &_o leave_v hope_n of_o pardon_n to_o his_o people_n if_o they_o will_v in_o any_o time_n repent_v and_o turn_v unto_o he_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n use_v all_o mean_n that_o may_v be_v to_o provoke_v they_o to_o leave_v their_o wickedness_n before_o he_o bring_v upon_o they_o extreme_a desolation_n and_o confusion_n in_o the_o 11._o 12._o 13._o verse_n god_n again_o allege_v the_o just_a cause_n of_o their_o plague_n that_o be_v that_o they_o have_v unfaytheful_o by_o apostasy_n forsake_v he_o deny_v his_o providence_n contemn_v the_o threaten_n of_o his_o prophet_n 2._o as_o *_o false_a vain_a and_o foolish_a and_o say_v that_o the_o punishment_n of_o war_n famine_n and_o hunger_n shall_v not_o light_v upon_o they_o but_o on_o the_o prophet_n themselves_o that_o speak_v so_o much_o of_o they_o such_o be_v the_o obstinacy_n of_o the_o wicked_a against_o all_o godly_a advertisement_n that_o they_o will_v not_o only_o not_o acknowledge_v they_o to_o be_v good_a &_o true_a but_o impute_v the_o cause_n of_o god_n wrath_n and_o displeasure_n to_o those_o messenger_n that_o he_o send_v to_o call_v they_o to_o repentance_n wherefore_o thus_o say_v the_o lord_n of_o host_n 17._o because_o you_o speak_v such_o word_n etc_n etc_n god_n show_v how_o grievous_a and_o intolerable_a the_o contempt_n of_o his_o word_n and_o minister_n be_v in_o his_o sight_n &_o how_o severe_o he_o will_v punish_v the_o the_o same_o because_o may_v and_o truth_n of_o that_o my_o word_n utter_v by_o thou_o bring_v upon_o they_o the_o plague_n and_o desolation_n that_o it_o have_v threaten_v unto_o they_o in_o the_o .3_o next_o verse_n he_o describe_v the_o may_v and_o cruel_a barbarity_n of_o those_o enemy_n that_o he_o will_v bring_v upon_o they_o 17._o they_o shall_v be_v say_v he_o a_o mighty_a people_n who_o power_n they_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o resist_v a_o old_a people_n that_o by_o long_a continuance_n in_o empire_n and_o dominion_n be_v waxen_a proud_a and_o stern_a and_o thereby_o will_v use_v the_o less_o mercy_n that_o none_o escape_v that_o they_o shoot_v at_o and_o therefore_o their_o arrow_n may_v well_o be_v say_v to_o be_v sudden_a death_n so_o barbarous_a and_o fierce_a they_o shall_v be_v as_o they_o will_v not_o spare_v either_o son_n or_o daughter_n among_o you_o they_o will_v consume_v your_o meat_n your_o fruit_n your_o grape_n your_o fig_n they_o will_v destroy_v your_o sheep_n your_o ox_n your_o bullock_n and_o all_o your_o cattle_n neither_o shall_v you_o have_v any_o defence_n help_v or_o succour_n against_o they_o for_o the_o sense_v city_n wherein_o you_o trust_v shall_v in_o that_o day_n nothing_o help_v you_o but_o that_o by_o the_o force_n of_o the_o sword_n they_o shall_v bring_v you_o to_o great_a distress_n and_o poverty_n 19_o and_o although_o that_o this_o threaten_a be_v very_o terrible_a yet_o he_o say_v further_a that_o he_o will_v not_o so_o have_v do_v with_o they_o but_o will_v add_v great_a plague_n and_o punishment_n and_o therefore_o because_o god_n see_v their_o wayward_a obstinacy_n that_o they_o will_v not_o only_o not_o acknowledge_v their_o fault_n and_o repent_v but_o also_o will_v murmur_v against_o he_o as_o deal_v cruel_o and_o unjust_o with_o they_o and_o punish_v they_o without_o good_a cause_n he_o will_v the_o prophet_n to_o answer_v this_o their_o blasphemous_a murmur_a and_o tell_v they_o plain_o that_o forsomuch_o as_o they_o have_v forsake_v the_o true_a worship_n of_o the_o live_a god_n &_o do_v sacrifice_n to_o strange_a god_n at_o home_n in_o their_o own_o land_n which_o god_n have_v give_v they_o he_o will_v now_o
thou_o have_v read_v before_o all_o the_o people_n and_o come_v so_o baruch_n the_o son_n of_o neriah_n take_v the_o book_n in_o his_o hand_n &_o come_v unto_o they_o 15_o and_o they_o say_v unto_o may_v hear_v 22_o now_o the_o king_n sit_v in_o the_o winter_n house_n for_o it_o be_v in_o the_o nine_n month_n and_o there_o be_v a_o fire_n before_o he_o 23_o and_o when_o jehudi_n have_v red_a three_o or_o four_o leaf_n thereof_o he_o cut_v the_o book_n in_o piece_n with_o a_o penknife_n and_o cast_v it_o into_o the_o fire_n upon_o the_o hearth_n until_o the_o book_n be_v all_o burn_v in_o the_o fire_n upon_o the_o hearth_n c._n 24_o yet_o no_o man_n be_v abash_v thereof_o nor_o rend_v his_o clothes_n neither_o the_o king_n himself_o nor_o his_o servant_n though_o they_o hear_v all_o these_o word_n 25_o nevertheless_o elnathan_n dalaiah_n and_o gamariah_n beseech_v the_o king_n that_o he_o will_v not_o burn_v the_o book_n notwithstanding_o the_o king_n will_v not_o hear_v they_o josias_n the_o king_n of_o juda_n etc_n etc_n in_o this_o chapter_n be_v describe_v a_o notable_a history_n &_o very_o profitable_a to_o be_v consider_v how_o god_n appoint_v hieremie_n to_o put_v in_o write_v all_o the_o sermon_n &_o prophecy_n that_o from_o the_o beginning_n he_o have_v utter_v by_o his_o mouth_n against_o israel_n and_o juda_n &_o how_o hieremie_n perform_v the_o same_o by_o his_o minister_n or_o secretary_n baruch_n who_o he_o cause_v also_o to_o read_v the_o same_o open_o in_o the_o temple_n and_o what_o thereof_o follow_v before_o the_o king_n himself_o and_o all_o the_o noble_n and_o counselor_n the_o jew_n oftentimes_o have_v hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n at_o the_o mouth_n of_o hieremie_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o do_v obstinate_o contemn_v &_o reject_v by_o speak_v have_v labour_v in_o vain_a with_o that_o wayward_a people_n the_o space_n of_o 3._o .23_o year_n as_o appear_v cap._n 25._o of_o the_o prophet_n god_n now_o will_v he_o to_o write_v the_o prophecy_n which_o he_o have_v utter_v to_o the_o end_n they_o may_v have_v no_o excuse_n nor_o want_v any_o external_a mean_n whereby_o they_o may_v come_v to_o the_o understanding_n of_o his_o will_n 7._o and_o thereby_o turn_v unto_o he_o that_o he_o may_v take_v mercy_n of_o they_o or_o else_o that_o you_o their_o obstinate_a disobedience_n both_o of_o the_o king_n the_o counsellor_n &_o appointment_n open_o to_o read_v it_o in_o the_o face_n of_o all_o the_o people_n whereof_o in_o all_o likelihood_n of_o reason_n it_o must_v needs_o have_v be_v that_o great_a displeasure_n and_o danger_n shall_v have_v come_v unto_o he_o but_o to_o further_o the_o will_n of_o god_n he_o do_v not_o stick_v to_o hazard_v himself_o to_o all_o peril_n of_o the_o world_n neither_o may_v we_o think_v that_o hieremie_n cunning_o shift_v the_o danger_n hereof_o from_o himself_o to_o baruch_n for_o he_o can_v not_o procure_v great_a mislike_v by_o this_o publish_n of_o thing_n in_o write_v and_o what_o they_o may_v beast_n do_v what_o god_n have_v reveal_v unto_o he_o touch_v they_o &_o what_o hope_v there_o be_v of_o the_o restore_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o forsomuch_o as_o the_o prophet_n may_v have_v be_v deceive_v by_o their_o hypocrisy_n &_o have_v think_v that_o they_o have_v true_o and_o sincere_o repent_v god_n open_v their_o dissimulation_n unto_o he_o &_o teach_v he_o home_o he_o shall_v answer_v they_o according_a to_o their_o desert_n these_o man_n say_v god_n that_o come_v unto_o thou_o be_v hypocrite_n and_o dissimuler_n and_o be_v not_o inward_o as_o they_o pretend_v out_o wardlye_o for_o whereas_o the_o heart_n of_o my_o people_n shall_v be_v the_o seat_n of_o my_o true_a worship_n and_o their_o life_n a_o declaration_n of_o my_o glory_n unto_o the_o world_n these_o man_n clean_o contrary_a have_v set_v up_o idol_n in_o their_o heart_n &_o long_o still_o to_o continue_v in_o the_o worship_v of_o they_o and_o the_o wicked_a life_n which_o they_o open_o lead_v be_v as_o a_o stumble_a block_n to_o many_o other_o whereby_o they_o be_v cause_v to_o fall_v from_o i_o shall_v i_o then_o be_v seek_v for_o by_o such_o as_o they_o be_v or_o shall_v their_o faith_n 7._o and_o half_a to_o mistrust_v the_o providence_n of_o god_n as_o though_o he_o do_v neglect_v his_o people_n and_o for_o that_o cause_n quarrel_v with_o the_o prophet_n and_o desire_v some_o resolution_n of_o their_o doubtful_a mind_n herein_o therefore_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o this_o chapter_n he_o say_v he_o will_v stand_v upon_o his_o watch_n tower_n and_o see_v what_o god_n will_v say_v unto_o he_o and_o what_o answer_n he_o may_v make_v to_o they_o that_o do_v in_o such_o manner_n rebuke_v he_o and_o quarrel_n with_o he_o by_o the_o watchtower_n he_o understand_v a_o more_o deep_a and_o earnest_a consideration_n and_o meditation_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n providence_n wherein_o his_o mind_n be_v lift_v up_o above_o the_o capacity_n of_o man_n common_a reason_n and_o be_v stay_v up_o by_o the_o declaration_n of_o god_n holy_a will_n reveal_v in_o his_o word_n the_o prophet_n be_v in_o this_o watchtower_n say_v the_o lord_n answer_v he_o that_o be_v that_o god_n by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n reveal_v to_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v write_v a_o vision_n and_o that_o so_o plain_o and_o in_o so_o great_a letter_n that_o a_o man_n run_v by_o in_o haste_n may_v read_v it_o in_o that_o the_o prophet_n so_o easy_o obtain_v answer_v of_o god_n we_o also_o be_v teach_v that_o when_o with_o earnest_a meditation_n and_o prayer_n we_o seek_v to_o understand_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o what_o be_v best_a for_o we_o to_o do_v he_o will_v not_o fail_v by_o his_o grace_n to_o lighten_v our_o mind_n to_o the_o understanding_n thereof_o if_o thou_o seek_v understanding_n say_v solomon_n as_o silver_n 4._o and_o search_v it_o out_o as_o great_a treasure_n thou_o shall_v understand_v the_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o find_v out_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god._n the_o sum_n of_o this_o vision_n be_v that_o those_o proud_a chaldies_n which_o do_v so_o afflict_v his_o people_n and_o glory_n in_o their_o own_o strength_n notwithstanding_o that_o they_o do_v seem_v for_o the_o time_n to_o prosper_v and_o to_o be_v a_o scourge_n to_o other_o yet_o in_o short_a space_n by_o god_n just_a judgement_n for_o their_o wickedness_n shall_v be_v bring_v to_o confusion_n and_o make_v a_o laugh_a stock_n to_o the_o world_n this_o answer_n god_n will_v the_o prophet_n to_o set_v up_o in_o writing_n that_o all_o his_o people_n may_v see_v it_o and_o read_v it_o to_o their_o assure_a comfort_n when_o the_o prophet_n add_v the_o vision_n be_v yet_o for_o a_o appoint_a time_n 3._o but_o at_o the_o last_o it_o shall_v speak_v and_o not_o lie_v and_o though_o it_o tarry_v yet_o it_o shall_v assure_o come_v and_o not_o stay_v etc_n etc_n he_o mean_v that_o the_o content_n of_o the_o vision_n shall_v not_o forthwith_o be_v fulfil_v but_o after_o a_o certain_a space_n and_o therefore_o will_v they_o patient_o to_o abide_v the_o time_n for_o that_o undoubted_o in_o the_o end_n it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v and_o so_o in_o deed_n be_v it_o fulfil_v about_o 70._o year_n after_o the_o destruction_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o lead_v of_o the_o people_n captive_a into_o babylon_n at_o which_o time_n cyrus_n take_v and_o spoil_v babylon_n and_o transfer_v the_o empire_n to_o the_o persian_n behold_v he_o that_o lift_v up_o himself_o 4._o his_o mind_n be_v not_o upright_o in_o he_o but_o etc_n etc_n he_o say_v the_o prophet_n that_o lift_v will_v *_o frustrate_v the_o counsel_n of_o such_o person_n but_o the_o good_a just_a man_n which_o with_o a_o assure_a fayth*_n stay_v himself_o upon_o the_o word_n and_o promise_n of_o god_n in_o all_o danger_n both_o worldly_a and_o spiritual_a shall_v not_o fail_v of_o tranquillity_n and_o quietness_n of_o mind_n for_o he_o have_v the_o unfallible_a truth_n &_o the_o almighty_a power_n of_o god_n whereon_o he_o rest_v wherefore_o by_o this_o verse_n the_o prophet_n will_v the_o people_n 6_o to_o *_o lay_n aside_o all_o confidence_n of_o worldly_a help_n and_o to_o rest_v only_o in_o god_n truth_n and_o his_o promise_n this_o sentence_n be_v not_o only_o to_o be_v apply_v to_o worldly_a affliction_n and_o care_n but_o also_o and_o especial_o to_o the_o torment_n of_o conscience_n against_o sin_n and_o satan_n and_o all_o our_o spiritual_a enemy_n 11._o and_o so_o do_v saint_n paul_n use_v galat._n 3_n yea_o in_o deed_n the_o proud_a man_n be_v as_o he_o that_o transgress_v cause_n wherewith_o god_n be_v move_v thereto_o the_o proud_a man_n say_v he_o that_o be_v the_o proud_a and_o ambitious_a babylonian_a be_v like_a to_o a_o drunken_a man_n that_o have_v pass_v all_o measure_n in_o drink_v of_o wine_n as_o in_o the_o drunkarde_a the_o vapour_n of_o the_o wine_n ascend_v to_o the_o head_n so_o trouble_v the_o brain_n and_o take_v away_o the_o right_a use_n of_o sense_n and_o reason_n that_o without_o shame_n or_o measure_n he_o run_v headlong_o to_o all_o filthiness_n and_o the_o more_o he_o have_v pour_v in_o the_o more_o still_o he_o desire_v to_o drink_v even_o so_o the_o proud_a and_o *_o ambitious_a spirit_n of_o the_o babylonian_a do_v so_o trouble_v his_o mind_n with_o vain_a imagination_n
