first_o as_o to_o the_o want_n of_o pleasure_n it_o be_v certain_a god_n make_v intelligent_a creature_n capable_a of_o intense_a and_o perpetual_a pleasure_n and_o satisfaction_n but_o if_o the_o creature_n have_v it_o not_o it_o be_v not_o god_n fault_n it_o be_v impossible_a the_o creature_n shall_v have_v continual_a happiness_n or_o pleasure_n as_o god_n have_v it_o viz._n independent_o in_o itself_o or_o by_o its_o own_o will_n as_o its_o own_o oppose_v to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n god_n can_v make_v it_o no_o more_o than_o a_o creature_n and_o so_o the_o creature_n must_v needs_o be_v satisfy_v by_o its_o creator_n but_o if_o the_o creature_n turn_v from_o god_n and_o set_v up_o a_o will_n against_o he_o he_o must_v needs_o want_v satisfaction_n when_o through_o creature-impotence_n he_o can_v have_v his_o will_n god_n will_v not_o concur_v with_o he_o and_o when_o through_o creature-fol_o he_o have_v will_v what_o be_v not_o best_o for_o he_o and_o find_v it_o so_o so_o that_o if_o the_o creature_n want_v any_o pleasure_n or_o good_a it_o be_v because_o he_o have_v turn_v from_o it_o or_o leave_v it_o or_o at_o least_o have_v some_o other_o sinner_n hinder_v it_o or_o take_v it_o from_o he_o by_o their_o sin_n for_o even_o the_o innocent_a as_o christ_n be_v be_v creature_n may_v suffer_v by_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o but_o the_o presence_n of_o this_o evil_a of_o displeasure_n may_v far_o be_v consider_v under_o two_o head_n one_a displeasure_n mere_o mental_a 2_o displeasure_n or_o pain_n by_o the_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n both_o of_o they_o in_o their_o centre_n be_v nothing_o but_o discontent_a or_o uneasy_a thought_n a_o consideration_n or_o apprehension_n of_o something_o against_o one_o will._n now_o as_o to_o the_o first_o if_o i_o desire_v that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o order_n of_o the_o creation_n unfit_a to_o be_v and_o can_v have_v it_o and_o therefore_o be_o foolish_o discontent_a angry_a fret_v rage_n creation_n that_o man_n willing_a what_o god_n will_v viz._n that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o so_o to_o be_v doneby_o god_n power_n may_v be_v very_o happy_a but_o as_o to_o those_o uneasy_a thought_n we_o have_v or_o may_v have_v by_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n which_o go_v under_o the_o name_n of_o pain_n and_o disease_n there_o seem_v more_o difficulty_n to_o excuse_v god_n hand_n from_o be_v the_o giver_n but_o i_o think_v if_o we_o consider_v it_o may_v soon_o appear_v that_o god_n be_v no_o more_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o the_o condition_n or_o the_o actual_a existence_n of_o this_o misery_n than_o of_o that_o discontent_n sinner_n have_v when_o they_o have_v not_o their_o foolish_a will_n in_o other_o thing_n the_o connection_n of_o the_o body_n with_o the_o mind_n without_o which_o such_o sensation_n be_v not_o probable_o think_v to_o be_v in_o the_o mind_n be_v to_o be_v ascribe_v to_o god_n as_o the_o cause_n the_o manner_n of_o this_o union_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v use_v the_o mind_n desire_v to_o use_v the_o body_n act_n upon_o it_o by_z and_o with_o it_o and_o receive_v divers_a idea_n or_o thought_n of_o body_n by_o occasion_n of_o it_o god_n will_n be_v indeed_o the_o bond_n of_o this_o union_n he_o will_v that_o the_o mind_n shall_v desire_v to_o use_v its_o body_n give_v the_o mind_n power_n to_o move_v it_o and_o to_o do_v divers_a thing_n in_o spoil_n or_o disorder_v of_o the_o body_n with_o which_o he_o be_v to_o act_v a_o part_n for_o a_o time_n when_o there_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o pain_n or_o disease_n god_n in_o his_o general_a law_n in_o nature_n will_v pain_n or_o discontent_a thought_n shall_v follow_v and_o so_o this_o discontent_n in_o itself_o be_v not_o sinful_a but_o god_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o the_o intelligent_a creature_n at_o least_o man_n as_o he_o come_v from_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n appear_v capable_a of_o a_o increase_n of_o knowledge_n and_o of_o satisfaction_n and_o though_o at_o first_o it_o be_v very_o good_a yet_o it_o be_v capable_a of_o better_a be_v in_o that_o respect_n and_o the_o good_a will_n of_o god_n in_o make_v thing_n be_v not_o to_o be_v consider_v mere_o in_o their_o first_o make_n but_o as_o a_o continual_a act_n reach_v to_o the_o creature_n whole_a duration_n now_o the_o way_n of_o the_o creature_n well_o be_v better_a be_v yea_o best_o possible_a be_v viz._n it_o be_v most_o clear_a behold_v the_o perfection_n of_o god_n intense_v loving_n and_o compleat_a satisfaction_n in_o he_o depend_v on_o the_o most_o wise_a good_a will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o god_n which_o must_v be_v know_v as_o a_o rule_n and_o guide_n unto_o that_o end_n viz._n that_o the_o creature_n will_v as_o god_n will_v to_o its_o utmost_a capacity_n and_o be_v please_v with_o whatever_o god_n do_v who_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o good_n this_o conformity_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v the_o only_a possible_a way_n for_o the_o creature_n to_o be_v as_o much_o as_o it_o can_v be_v please_v or_o happy_a and_o so_o long_o and_o so_o much_o as_o it_o will_v not_o otherwise_o than_o god_n will_v have_v it_o will_v so_o long_o and_o so_o much_o will_v it_o be_v joyous_a and_o satisfy_v as_o god_n make_v it_o to_o be_v in_o he_o 18._o but_o if_o ever_o the_o creature_n will_v otherwise_o than_o god_n will_v it_o must_v of_o necessity_n find_v the_o disorder_n say_v to_o desire_v its_o own_o unease_v or_o displeasure_n its_o pleasure_n lie_v in_o have_v its_o will_n if_o it_o can_v desire_v to_o be_v displease_v it_o can_v will_v and_o not_o will_n at_o the_o same_o time_n which_o be_v a_o contradiction_n as_o bad_a as_o to_o say_v a_o will_n be_v not_o a_o will._n but_o the_o creature_n will_v become_v evil_a two_o way_n first_o when_o it_o will_v or_o desire_n that_o which_o in_o itself_o be_v a_o good_a yea_o perhaps_o the_o great_a good_n but_o to_o it_o impossible_a or_o not_o belong_v as_o to_o be_v satisfy_v in_o its_o own_o proper_a will_n without_o regard_n of_o another_o as_o if_o the_o reason_n of_o good_a be_v to_o depend_v on_o its_o will_n which_o be_v a_o prerogative_n only_o belong_v and_o possible_a to_o god_n who_o will_n can_v give_v be_v to_o thing_n and_o who_o be_v sufficient_a in_o himself_o the_o evil_a of_o this_o and_o indeed_o all_o sinful_a desire_n include_v it_o lie_v in_o this_o that_o the_o creature_n will_v a_o contradiction_n or_o absurdity_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o foolish_o and_o unjust_o attempt_v to_o rob_v god_n of_o his_o prerogative_n or_o his_o very_a be_v and_o to_o become_v god_n itself_o or_o to_o be_v another_o god_n equal_a with_o he_o and_o though_o this_o attempt_n which_o be_v virtual_o in_o all_o sin_n can_v real_o take_v nothing_o from_o god_n or_o make_v he_o uneasy_a yet_o in_o common_a speech_n or_o speak_v improper_o as_o if_o we_o be_v speak_v of_o man_n god_n be_v say_v to_o be_v displease_v or_o angry_a with_o it_o but_o it_o be_v that_o the_o creature_n thus_o affect_v supreme_a good_a do_v not_o only_o commit_v the_o evil_a act_n of_o injustice_n in_o attempt_v to_o take_v what_o be_v not_o its_o own_o and_o of_o folly_n in_o affect_v what_o be_v impossible_a but_o also_o have_v will_v that_o which_o will_v bring_v in_o the_o consequence_n it_o be_v own_o displeasure_n because_o will_v what_o it_o can_v have_v while_o it_o so_o will_v it_o be_v uneasy_a or_o else_o be_v so_o when_o it_o reflect_v on_o its_o folly_n second_o the_o creature_n will_v evil_a in_o willing_a that_o which_o have_v real_o but_o the_o appearance_n of_o good_a appearance_n i_o say_v for_o at_o least_o a_o seem_v or_o suppose_a good_a must_v be_v acknowledge_v the_o object_n of_o man_n will_n as_o when_o a_o man_n will_v a_o thing_n which_o when_o he_o try_v have_v no_o satisfaction_n in_o it_o at_o all_o or_o when_o he_o will_v a_o create_v good_a i_o mean_v the_o enjoyment_n of_o some_o creature_n that_o do_v real_o give_v he_o some_o small_a satisfaction_n but_o that_o present_a and_o small_a satisfaction_n take_v away_o a_o great_a and_o more_o last_a it_o may_v have_v have_v if_o it_o have_v not_o will_v that_o thing_n it_o be_v according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n as_o well_o as_o for_o man_n interest_n that_o man_n be_v as_o much_o as_o possible_a please_v man_n real_o will_v evil_a though_o under_o the_o form_n of_o good_a or_o even_o though_o there_o be_v some_o good_a in_o the_o thing_n when_o he_o will_v that_o which_o tend_v to_o hinder_v or_o lessen_v his_o own_o pleasure_n or_o happiness_n which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n three_o a_o man_n will_n be_v evil_a when_o although_o he_o will_v that_o which_o be_v in_o itself_o a_o good_a and_o good_a for_o he_o he_o will_v it_o so_o or_o in_o such_o circumstance_n as_o hinder_v good_a from_o another_o man_n for_o there_o be_v the_o same_o reason_n why_o another_o man_n shall_v be_v please_v as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v as_o that_o i_o shall_v be_v so_o and_o in_o hinder_v the_o good_a of_o another_o i_o want_v the_o reasonable_a act_n of_o love_n and_o justice_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o even_o also_o hinder_v good_a from_o myself_o in_o thus_o disorderly_o seek_v it_o for_o i_o can_v be_v more_o happy_a and_o please_v if_o all_o my_o fellow_n creature_n be_v so_o than_o if_o they_o be_v not_o and_o the_o more_o of_o they_o happy_a and_o please_v the_o more_o may_v i_o for_o the_o unhappiness_n or_o displeasure_n of_o other_o add_v to_o my_o unhappiness_n if_o i_o have_v be_v any_o way_n the_o cause_n of_o their_o unhappiness_n when_o i_o see_v my_o injustice_n or_o if_o i_o have_v not_o as_o i_o be_o affect_v with_o compassion_n or_o as_o i_o therein_o do_v not_o see_v so_o much_o of_o the_o manifestation_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n in_o the_o order_n of_o his_o creature_n i_o have_v not_o such_o cause_n of_o joy_n as_o if_o i_o see_v my_o own_o pleasure_n as_o it_o be_v multiply_v in_o my_o fellow_n creature_n or_o have_v the_o satisfaction_n of_o be_v instrumental_a to_o their_o good_a and_o perhaps_o from_o divers_a other_o reason_n the_o more_o of_o my_o fellow_n be_v happy_a the_o more_o in_o degree_n may_v i_o be_v so_o but_o let_v we_o consider_v wherein_o the_o evil_a of_o man_n will_n consist_v for_o more_o clearness_n in_o a_o instance_n or_o two_o a_o man_n desire_v a_o bodily_a thing_n in_o the_o application_n of_o which_o to_o his_o body_n god_n have_v annex_v a_o pleasure_n to_o the_o mind_n this_o gratification_n of_o the_o abate_v his_o happiness_n and_o which_o be_v worse_o an_o ungrateful_a slight_n to_o his_o maker_n a_o great_a disorder_n in_o not_o consult_v his_o will_n to_o guide_v he_o or_o not_o confide_v in_o his_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n who_o will_v have_v the_o man_n as_o happy_a as_o may_v be_v as_o the_o pleasure_n a_o man_n receive_v in_o eat_v and_o drink_v be_v good_a but_o if_o he_o eat_v or_o drink_v too_o much_o he_o dull_v his_o appetite_n and_o render_v it_o less_o sensible_a and_o often_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o a_o disease_n that_o not_o only_o affect_v he_o with_o its_o consequent_a displeasure_n but_o render_v he_o incapable_a of_o the_o pleasure_n of_o eat_v and_o drink_v for_o a_o much_o long_a time_n than_o he_o have_v of_o pleasure_n when_o he_o disorderly_o or_o immoderate_o seek_v it_o or_o if_o he_o do_v not_o thus_o abate_v his_o happiness_n if_o he_o rob_v his_o neighbour_n for_o it_o that_o act_n of_o injustice_n never_o fail_v one_o way_n or_o other_o to_o give_v he_o more_o displeasure_n than_o he_o have_v pleasure_n so_o undue_o attain_v so_o likewise_o the_o pleasure_n in_o the_o act_n of_o generation_n be_v good_a but_o when_o ever_o a_o man_n go_v out_o of_o the_o order_n god_n have_v set_v man_n in_o the_o reason_n of_o that_o satisfaction_n he_o act_v evil_a either_o in_o render_v himself_o less_o capable_a thereof_o or_o by_o procure_v himself_o far_o great_a evil_a or_o displeasure_n in_o the_o many_o mischief_n that_o the_o satisfy_v that_o desire_n any_o other_o way_n than_o with_o a_o wife_n natural_o produce_v to_o by_o any_o man_n no_o nor_o by_o all_o man_n nor_o can_v a_o man_n enjoy_v what_o he_o be_v capable_a of_o enjoy_v altogether_o and_o at_o once_o so_o that_o where_o ever_o god_n forbid_v what_o we_o can_v desire_v it_o be_v but_o where_o a_o small_a enjoyment_n will_v hinder_v our_o have_v a_o great_a one_o frustrate_a our_o have_v many_o a_o small_a present_n and_o short_a one_o disappoint_v we_o of_o a_o future_a great_a and_o last_a one_o and_o what_o folly_n be_v it_o to_o be_v displease_v because_o god_n some_o way_n forbid_v a_o bodily_a or_o sensual_a pleasure_n that_o we_o may_v have_v a_o better_a a_o rational_a or_o mental_a one_o or_o a_o joy_n in_o a_o creature_n where_o it_o will_v hinder_v our_o rejoice_v in_o the_o creator_n himself_o i_o believe_v if_o we_o have_v time_n to_o trace_v in_o particular_a the_o disorder_n of_o man_n we_o shall_v find_v that_o all_o and_o every_o of_o they_o even_o their_o most_o beloved_a one_o do_v but_o abate_v their_o felicity_n nor_o get_v any_o thing_n by_o the_o creature_n sin_n or_o obedience_n so_o in_o particular_a his_o justice_n or_o righteousness_n can_v be_v impair_v he_o be_v not_o unrighteous_a or_o unjust_a incomplete_a defective_a understanding_n and_o a_o will_n or_o desire_v of_o something_o we_o have_v not_o now_o wherever_o be_v find_v any_o thing_n of_o ignorance_n in_o the_o understanding_n or_o any_o want_n of_o power_n in_o the_o will_n it_o appear_v that_o that_o be_v can_v in_o any_o wise_a be_v think_v to_o be_v of_o itself_o or_o selfsufficient_a but_o must_v consequential_o be_v acknowledge_v to_o be_v dependent_a have_v some_o other_o be_v its_o cause_n for_o he_o that_o find_v himself_o insufficient_a to_o himself_o can_v in_o no_o wise_n be_v think_v to_o be_v sufficient_a agent_n be_v what_o notion_n have_v we_o of_o it_o i_o have_v long_o try_v and_o can_v find_v nothing_o a_o object_n of_o my_o understanding_n but_o either_o think_v or_o body_n what_o other_o may_v chance_v to_o do_v who_o never_o try_v and_o be_v resolve_v they_o never_o will_v i_o know_v not_o let_v they_o tell_v we_o what_o think_v they_o have_v of_o it_o different_z from_o body_n and_o whole_o ignorant_a of_o but_o if_o any_o suppose_v think_v a_o action_n or_o attribute_n of_o body_n or_o that_o it_o be_v body_n some_o way_n or_o other_o posit_v or_o move_v how_o they_o can_v tell_v that_o be_v think_v or_o that_o as_o they_o rather_o will_v say_v think_v they_o must_v suppose_v body_n more_o noble_a as_o the_o cause_n or_o agent_n which_o i_o believe_v they_o will_v hardly_o do_v but_o we_o can_v suppose_v body_n not_o to_o be_v we_o may_v be_v ignorant_a of_o it_o and_o yet_o think_v which_o can_v not_o be_v if_o it_o be_v body_n that_o think_v beside_o if_o body_n think_v it_o know_v itself_o to_o think_v and_o so_o the_o dispute_n be_v at_o a_o end_n but_o body_n do_v not_o know_v itself_o to_o think_v because_o it_o be_v doubt_v whether_o it_o think_v or_o no_o whatever_o think_v can_v be_v ignorant_a of_o its_o think_v nor_o can_v any_o thing_n be_v well_o think_v to_o be_v a_o agent_n that_o be_v ignorant_a of_o its_o be_v so_o or_o do_v not_o will_n to_o be_v so_o if_o body_n can_v be_v suppose_v to_o think_v and_o know_v itself_o to_o think_v it_o will_v be_v think_v consequent_o not_o body_n for_o of_o body_n and_o think_v there_o be_v whole_o different_a notion_n but_o body_n we_o affirm_v to_o be_v no_o agent_n of_o any_o thing_n or_o creator_n of_o idea_n or_o thought_n god_n alone_o must_v be_v supposs_v with_o good_a reason_n strange_a a_o expression_n as_o that_o it_o may_v not_o be_v admit_v to_o say_v cogitatio_fw-la est_fw-la cogitans_fw-la or_o think_v think_v for_o in_o truth_n i_o take_v it_o to_o be_v the_o same_o have_v make_v we_o good_a or_o as_o become_v the_o best_a be_v to_o make_v and_o capable_a of_o good_a or_o pleasure_n we_o shall_v be_v thankful_a for_o our_o be_v and_o rejoice_v or_o take_v pleasure_n in_o consider_v god_n wisdom_n goodness_n and_o power_n so_o shall_v we_o be_v ready_a to_o comply_v with_o his_o will_n as_o instrument_n in_o manifest_v and_o communicate_v his_o power_n wisdom_n and_o goodness_n to_o ourselves_o and_o our_o fellow_n creature_n and_o hate_v fear_v and_o avoid_v be_v a_o hindrance_n in_o any_o of_o these_o again_o we_o be_v rational_o oblige_v from_o the_o consideration_n of_o god_n and_o his_o will_n to_o we_o in_o relation_n to_o those_o part_n of_o the_o creation_n he_o seem_v to_o have_v make_v for_o our_o sake_n and_o use_n to_o use_v they_o due_a homage_n to_o their_o author_n and_o that_o at_o the_o same_o time_n we_o all_o may_v enjoy_v the_o necessary_a benefit_n of_o a_o cessation_n from_o the_o fatigue_n of_o bodily_a work_n which_o common_o take_v up_o six_o time_n as_o much_o time_n in_o proportion_n as_o our_o mental_a and_o more_o noble_a exercise_n beside_o that_o our_o whole_a time_n be_v rather_o number_v by_o seven_n
