nothing_o less_o then_o to_o hear_v that_o they_o be_v the_o apostle_n of_o the_o devil_n nay_o rather_o they_o glory_v above_o other_o in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o boast_v themselves_o to_o be_v the_o most_o sincere_a preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o because_o they_o mingle_v the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n together_o they_o can_v not_o but_o be_v the_o perverter_n of_o the_o gospel_n for_o either_o christ_n must_v remain_v and_o the_o law_n perish_v or_o the_o law_n must_v remain_v and_o christ_n perish_v for_o christ_n and_o the_o law_n can_v by_o no_o mean_n agree_v and_o reign_v together_o in_o the_o conscience_n where_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n rule_v there_o can_v not_o the_o righteousness_n of_o grace_n rule_n and_o again_o where_o the_o righteousness_n of_o grace_n reign_v there_o can_v not_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n reign_n for_o one_o of_o they_o must_v needs_o geve_v place_n unto_o the_o other_o and_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o believe_v contrary_a that_o god_n will_v forgive_v thy_o sin_n for_o christ_n sake_n who_o he_o send_v into_o the_o world_n to_o be_v our_o high_a priest_n how_o then_o i_o pray_v thou_o will_v thou_o believe_v that_o he_o will_v forgive_v the_o same_o for_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n which_o thou_o can_v never_o perform_v or_o for_o thine_o own_o work_n which_o as_o thou_o must_v stand_v with_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n the_o one_o must_v simp_o be_v refuse_v and_o abolish_v and_o the_o other_o confirm_v and_o establish_v christ_n for_o as_o paul_n say_v here_o to_o mingle_v the_o one_o with_o the_o other_o be_v to_o overthrow_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o if_o it_o come_v to_o debate_v the_o great_a part_n overcome_v the_o better_a for_o christ_n with_o his_o side_n be_v weak_a and_o the_o gospel_n be_v but_o a_o foolish_a preach_n contrariwise_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o devil_n the_o prince_n thereof_o be_v strong_a beside_o that_o the_o wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n of_o the_o flesh_n carry_v a_o goodly_a show_n and_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o righteousness_n of_o grace_n and_o faith_n be_v lose_v and_o the_o gospel_n faith_n and_o work_v together_o but_o it_o do_v more_o mischief_n than_o man_n reason_n can_v conceive_v for_o it_o do_v not_o only_a blemish_n and_o darken_v the_o knowledge_n of_o grace_n but_o also_o it_o take_v away_o christ_n with_o all_o his_o benefit_n and_o it_o utter_o overthrow_v the_o gospel_n as_o paul_n say_v in_o this_o place_n the_o cause_n of_o this_o great_a evil_n be_v our_o flesh_n which_o be_v plunge_v in_o sin_n see_v no_o way_n how_o to_o get_v out_o but_o by_o work_n &_o therefore_o it_o will_v live_v in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n and_o rest_n in_o the_o trust_n and_o confidence_n of_o her_o own_o work_n wherefore_o it_o be_v utter_o ignorant_a of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n and_o grace_n without_o which_o notwithstanding_o it_o be_v lawgiver_n a_o tyrant_n and_o a_o judge_n more_o terrible_a than_o moses_n himself_o and_o this_o perverse_a opinion_n we_o can_v not_o yet_o at_o this_o day_n in_o so_o great_a light_n of_o the_o truth_n utter_o reject_v so_o strong_o be_v those_o thing_n root_v in_o our_o heart_n which_o we_o learn_v in_o our_o youth_n but_o you_o which_o be_v yet_o young_a and_o be_v not_o infect_v with_o this_o pernicious_a opinion_n may_v learn_v christ_n pure_o with_o less_o difficulty_n they_o we_o that_o be_v old_a can_v remove_v out_o of_o our_o mind_n these_o blasphemous_a imagination_n which_o we_o have_v conceive_v of_o he_o notwithstanding_o you_o have_v not_o utter_o escape_v the_o deceit_n of_o the_o devil_n for_o although_o you_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o infect_v with_o this_o curse_a opinion_n that_o christ_n be_v a_o lawgiver_n yet_o have_v you_o in_o you_o the_o root_n whereof_o it_o spring_v that_o be_v you_o have_v the_o flesh_n christ_n reason_n and_o the_o corruption_n of_o we_o all_o etc_n etc_n this_o be_v a_o true_a knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o a_o divine_a persuasion_n which_o deceive_v we_o not_o but_o paint_v out_o god_n unto_o we_o lively_o he_o that_o be_v fall_v from_o this_o knowledge_n must_v needs_o conceive_v this_o fantasy_n in_o his_o heart_n i_o will_v set_v up_o such_o a_o service_n of_o god_n i_o will_v enter_v into_o such_o a_o order_n i_o will_v choose_v this_o or_o that_o work_n and_o so_o will_v i_o serve_v god_n and_o i_o doubt_n not_o but_o god_n will_v accept_v this_o and_o reward_v i_o with_o everlasting_a life_n for_o the_o same_o for_o he_o be_v merciful_a and_o liberal_a give_v all_o good_a thing_n even_o to_o the_o unworthy_a and_o unthankful_a much_o more_o will_v he_o geve_v unto_o i_o grace_n and_o everlasting_a life_n for_o my_o great_a and_o manifold_a good_a deed_n and_o merit_n this_o be_v the_o high_a wisdom_n reason_n righteousness_n and_o religion_n that_o reason_n can_v judge_v of_o which_o be_v common_a to_o all_o nation_n to_o the_o papist_n jew_n turk_n heretic_n etc_n etc_n they_o can_v go_v no_o high_o then_o that_o pharisey_n do_v of_o who_o mention_n be_v make_v in_o the_o gospel_n 15.11.12_o if_o i_o do_v this_o or_o that_o work_n god_n will_v be_v merciful_a unto_o i_o if_o i_o do_v it_o not_o he_o will_v be_v angry_a there_o be_v no_o mean_a between_o man_n work_v and_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n if_o this_o knowledge_n be_v darken_v or_o deface_v it_o be_v all_o one_o whether_o thou_o be_v a_o monk_n a_o turk_n a_o jew._n etc_n etc_n wherefore_o it_o be_v a_o extreme_a madness_n that_o the_o papist_n and_o turk_n do_v so_o strive_v among_o themselves_o about_o the_o religion_n and_o service_n of_o god_n contend_v that_o both_o of_o they_o have_v the_o true_a religion_n and_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n and_o the_o monk_n themselves_o agree_v not_o together_o for_o one_o of_o they_o will_v be_v account_v more_o holy_a than_o a_o other_o for_o certain_a foolish_a outward_a ceremony_n and_o yet_o in_o their_o heart_n the_o opinion_n of_o they_o all_o be_v so_o like_a thaâ—_z one_o egg_n be_v not_o more_o like_a to_o a_o other_o for_o this_o be_v the_o imagination_n of_o they_o all_o alike_o if_o i_o do_v this_o work_n god_n will_v have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o if_o i_o do_v it_o not_o he_o will_v be_v angry_a and_o therefore_o every_o man_n that_o revolt_v from_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n must_v needs_o fall_v into_o idolatry_n and_o conceive_v such_o a_o imagination_n of_o god_n as_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o his_o nature_n as_o the_o charterhouse_n monk_n for_o the_o observe_n of_o his_o rule_n the_o turk_n for_o the_o keep_v of_o his_o alcoran_n have_v this_o affiance_n that_o he_o please_v god_n and_o shall_v receive_v a_o reward_n of_o he_o for_o his_o labour_n such_o a_o god_n as_o after_o this_o sort_n forgive_v sin_n and_o justify_v sinner_n god._n can_v no_o where_o be_v find_v and_o therefore_o this_o be_v but_o a_o vain_a imagination_n a_o dream_n and_o a_o idol_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o god_n have_v not_o promise_v that_o he_o will_v save_v and_o justify_v man_n for_o the_o religion_n observation_n
