say_v that_o a_o infinite_a point_n and_o wherein_o be_v no_o succession_n can_v comprehend_v all_o time_n though_o time_n be_v successive_a these_o phrase_n i_o find_v not_o in_o the_o scripture_n i_o wonder_v therefore_o what_o be_v the_o design_n of_o the_o schoolman_n to_o bring_v they_o up_o unless_o they_o think_v a_o man_n can_v not_o be_v a_o true_a christian_n unless_o his_o understanding_n be_v first_o strangle_v with_o such_o hard_a saying_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o answer_v to_o his_o lordship_n discourse_n wherein_o i_o think_v not_o only_o his_o squadron_n of_o argument_n but_o also_o his_o reserve_n of_o distinction_n be_v defeat_v and_o now_o your_o lordship_n shall_v have_v my_o doctrine_n concerning_o the_o same_o question_n with_o my_o reason_n for_o it_o positive_o and_o as_o brief_o as_o i_o can_v without_o any_o term_n of_o art_n in_o plain_a english_a my_o opinion_n about_o liberty_n and_o necessity_n first_o i_o conceive_v that_o when_o it_o come_v into_o a_o man_n mind_n to_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v some_o certain_a action_n if_o he_o have_v no_o time_n to_o deliberate_v the_o do_v it_o or_o abstain_v necessary_o follow_v the_o present_a thought_n he_o have_v of_o the_o good_a or_o evil_a consequence_n thereof_o to_o himself_o as_o for_o example_n in_o sudden_a anger_n the_o action_n shall_v follow_v the_o thought_n of_o revenge_n in_o sudden_a fear_n the_o thought_n of_o escape_n also_o when_o a_o man_n have_v time_n to_o deliberate_v but_o deliberate_v not_o because_o never_o any_o thing_n appear_v that_o can_v make_v he_o doubt_v of_o the_o consequence_n the_o action_n follow_v his_o opinion_n of_o the_o goodness_n or_o harm_n of_o it_o these_o action_n i_o call_v voluntary_a my_o lord_n if_o i_o understand_v he_o aright_o that_o call_v they_o spontaneous_a i_o call_v they_o voluntary_a because_o those_o action_n that_o follow_v immediate_o the_o last_o appetite_n be_v voluntary_a and_o here_o where_o be_v one_o only_a appetite_n that_o one_o be_v the_o last_o beside_o i_o see_v it_o be_v reasonable_a to_o punish_v a_o rash_a action_n which_o can_v not_o be_v just_o do_v by_o man_n to_o man_n unless_o the_o same_o be_v voluntary_a for_o no_o action_n of_o a_o man_n can_v be_v say_v to_o be_v without_o deliberation_n though_o never_o so_o sudden_a because_o it_o be_v suppose_v he_o have_v time_n to_o deliberate_v all_o the_o precedent_a time_n of_o his_o life_n whether_o he_o shall_v do_v that_o kind_n of_o action_n or_o not_o and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o he_o that_o kill_v in_o a_o sudden_a passion_n of_o anger_n shall_v nevertheless_o be_v just_o put_v to_o death_n because_o all_o the_o time_n wherein_o he_o be_v able_a to_o consider_v whether_o to_o kill_v be_v good_a or_o evil_a shall_v be_v hold_v for_o one_o continual_a deliberation_n and_o consequent_o the_o kill_n shall_v be_v judge_v to_o proceed_v fronelection_n second_o i_o conceive_v when_o a_o man_n do_v or_o quit_v the_o action_n of_o which_o he_o deliberate_v three_o i_o conceive_v that_o in_o all_o deliberation_n that_o be_v to_o say_v in_o at_o alternate_a succession_n of_o contrary_a appetite_n the_o last_o be_v that_o which_o we_o call_v the_o will_n and_o be_v immediate_o next_o before_o the_o do_n of_o the_o action_n or_o next_o before_o the_o do_n of_o it_o become_v impossible_a all_o other_o appetite_n to_o do_v and_o to_o quit_v that_o come_v upon_o a_o man_n during_o his_o deliberation_n be_v call_v intention_n and_o inclination_n but_o not_o will_n there_o election_n
