the_o church_n be_v point_v at_o which_o be_v signify_v by_o these_o solemn_a feast_n and_o particular_o this_o feast_n be_v pitch_v on_o rather_o than_o another_o 1._o because_o it_o be_v a_o feast_n of_o great_a joy_n leu._n 23.40_o signify_v that_o the_o new_a testament_n afford_v not_o only_a matter_n of_o feast_v but_o cause_n of_o exceed_a joy_n 2._o because_o this_o feast_n shadow_v out_o christ_n incarnation_n and_o dwell_v in_o the_o tabernacle_n of_o our_o flesh_n joh._n 1.14_o which_o be_v the_o chief_a subject_n and_o matter_n of_o joy_n to_o the_o church_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n 3._o because_o it_o have_v relation_n to_o the_o preservation_n of_o israel_n forty_o year_n in_o the_o wilderness_n till_o the_o lord_n bring_v and_o settle_v they_o in_o the_o promise_a land_n and_o so_o it_o hold_v out_o that_o these_o convert_v will_n especial_o observe_v the_o providence_n of_o god_n towards_o they_o in_o preserve_v they_o till_o by_o the_o gospel_n they_o be_v bring_v into_o the_o church_n and_o general_o that_o true_a convert_v under_o the_o gospel_n will_v be_v eye_v much_o the_o heavenly_a canaan_n their_o rest_n as_o approach_v on_o the_o back_n of_o these_o day_n ver._n 17._o and_o it_o shall_v be_v that_o who_o so_o will_v not_o come_v up_o of_o all_o the_o family_n of_o the_o earth_n unto_o jerusalem_n to_o worship_v the_o king_n the_o lord_n more_o but_o blow_v upon_o all_o enemy_n and_o their_o mean_n and_o they_o will_v be_v to_o seek_v and_o run_v mad_o and_o blind_o on_o their_o own_o ruin_n for_o in_o that_o day_n say_v the_o lord_n i_o will_v smite_v every_o horse_n with_o astonishment_n and_o his_o rider_n with_o madness_n and_o will_v smite_v every_o horse_n of_o the_o people_n with_o blindness_n 2._o however_o the_o lord_n may_v hide_v his_o face_n for_o a_o time_n from_o his_o people_n and_o atheism_n will_v always_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v in_o trouble_n that_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o regard_n yet_o in_o due_a time_n he_o will_v prove_v that_o his_o people_n be_v not_o wrong_v but_o when_o he_o have_v be_v a_o witness_n and_o take_v notice_n that_o he_o affect_v they_o and_o have_v a_o eye_n upon_o they_o for_o i_o will_v open_v my_o eye_n upon_o the_o house_n of_o judah_n say_v the_o lord_n 3._o the_o lord_n favour_v of_o his_o people_n and_o his_o providence_n and_o eye_n upon_o they_o will_v not_o consist_v in_o bare_a observation_n but_o when_o he_o have_v mark_v their_o wander_n tear_n and_o affliction_n that_o they_o be_v come_v to_o a_o height_n his_o favour_n and_o care_n will_v shine_v instrument_n of_o their_o good_a it_o be_v promise_v they_o shall_v have_v governor_n for_o direct_v all_o their_o affair_n and_o manage_v their_o war_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v holy_a man_n not_o place_v their_o confidence_n in_o multitude_n of_o man_n but_o every_o one_o esteem_v it_o strength_n sufficient_a that_o god_n be_v reconcile_v with_o their_o subject_n and_o reckon_v that_o these_o how_o weak_a and_o few_o soever_o shall_v be_v able_a through_o god_n blessing_n to_o carry_v through_o in_o any_o difficulty_n doct._n 1._o it_o be_v a_o token_n of_o great_a mercy_n to_o a_o people_n when_o the_o lord_n not_o only_o deliver_v they_o from_o confusion_n and_o settle_v ruler_n over_o they_o but_o when_o he_o make_v ruler_n real_o holy_a and_o straight_o for_o he_o for_o judah_n in_o that_o day_n shall_v have_v governor_n so_o qualify_v 2._o it_o be_v a_o evidence_n of_o piety_n in_o ruler_n when_o public_a affair_n do_v touch_v they_o as_o near_o and_o be_v as_o faithful_o see_v to_o as_o if_o they_o be_v their_o own_o particular_a for_o so_o shall_v every_o ruler_n reckon_v that_o help_v to_o the_o public_a be_v a_o lift_n to_o themselves_o who_o cordial_o wrestle_v under_o it_o my_o strength_n shall_v they_o call_v it_o 3._o it_o be_v another_o mark_n of_o piety_n when_o ruler_n beside_o their_o personal_a carriage_n study_n to_o advance_v piety_n where_o they_o have_v power_n and_o be_v encourage_v by_o the_o growth_n of_o piety_n and_o be_v encouragement_n to_o such_o as_o incline_v that_o way_n for_o that_o shall_v be_v the_o governors_n refreshment_n that_o their_o people_n be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n 4._o it_o be_v a_o great_a evidence_n of_o piety_n when_o any_o be_v full_o persuade_v of_o the_o truth_n they_o receive_v and_o general_o assent_v to_o when_o truth_n be_v not_o receive_v in_o a_o fleet_a superficial_a way_n but_o root_v in_o the_o heart_n so_o that_o what_o they_o say_v they_o say_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n 5._o a_o people_n reconcile_v unto_o god_n be_v the_o great_a strength_n of_o a_o kingdom_n or_o nation_n and_o they_o will_v prove_v help_n to_o it_o indeed_o how_o contemptible_a soever_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v for_o so_o shall_v these_o governor_n reckon_v the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n shall_v be_v my_o strength_n in_o the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n 6._o whatever_o good_a may_v be_v expect_v of_o a_o holy_a people_n be_v not_o to_o be_v expect_v from_o any_o inherent_a worth_n or_o holiness_n in_o they_o but_o from_o god_n free_a favour_n towards_o they_o and_o with_o much_o immediate_a dependence_n on_o he_o lest_o god_n be_v deprive_v of_o his_o glory_n they_o be_v blast_v therefore_o be_v it_o distinct_o add_v they_o shall_v be_v my_o strength_n in_o the_o lord_n of_o host_n their_o god_n verse_n 6._o in_o that_o day_n will_v i_o make_v the_o governoure_n of_o judah_n like_o a_o hearth_n of_o fire_n among_o the_o wood_n and_o like_o a_o torch_n of_o fire_n in_o a_o sheaf_n and_o they_o shall_v devour_v all_o the_o people_n round_o about_o on_o the_o right_a hand_n and_o on_o the_o left_a and_o jerusalem_n shall_v be_v inhabit_v again_o in_o her_o own_o place_n even_o in_o jerusalem_n the_o four_o promise_n be_v the_o same_o in_o substance_n with_o the_o first_o under_o another_o similitude_n hold_v forth_o that_o these_o godly_a governor_n shall_v not_o be_v disappoint_v of_o their_o confidence_n of_o which_o v._o 5._o but_o they_o and_o the_o people_n under_o they_o shall_v be_v victorious_a and_o overcome_v their_o enemy_n as_o a_o furnace_n consume_v timber_n and_o a_o torch_n burn_v a_o sheaf_n of_o dry_a straw_n which_o promise_n be_v further_o amplify_v that_o jerusalem_n thus_o preserve_v shall_v be_v inhabit_v again_o which_o that_o it_o be_v not_o understand_v only_o spiritual_o of_o the_o church_n it_o be_v add_v that_o jerusalem_n own_o place_n be_v even_o in_o jerusalem_n which_o seem_v clear_o to_o point_n at_o their_o repossess_v of_o their_o land_n and_o of_o that_o city_n not_o as_o be_v then_o any_o more_o typical_a but_o as_o be_v the_o most_o kindly_a inheritance_n to_o israel_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v convert_v as_o a_o nation_n doct._n 1._o faith_n and_o hope_n in_o god_n will_v never_o be_v ashamed_a but_o these_o who_o promise_v themselves_o much_o good_a in_o god_n shall_v find_v it_o so_o for_o the_o governor_n of_o judah_n who_o expect_v strength_n in_o god_n v._o 5._o do_v get_v what_o they_o expect_v and_o be_v make_v like_o a_o hearth_n of_o fire_n etc._n etc._n 2._o enemy_n of_o the_o church_n may_v expect_v to_o be_v destroy_v by_o their_o own_o assault_n and_o enterprise_n against_o she_o for_o their_o come_n to_o smother_v or_o extinguish_v she_o be_v cast_v of_o wood_n upon_o a_o hearth_n or_o asheafe_n upon_o a_o torch_n of_o fire_n which_o put_v not_o out_o the_o fire_n or_o torch_n but_o burn_v themselves_o 3._o the_o destruction_n of_o such_o as_o afflict_v the_o church_n shall_v not_o be_v ordinary_a but_o violent_a total_a and_o irrecoverable_a for_o as_o fire_n and_o a_o torch_n they_o shall_v devour_v all_o the_o people_n round_o about_o on_o the_o right_a hand_n and_o on_o the_o left_a which_o do_v not_o point_n at_o the_o church_n cruelty_n but_o at_o the_o way_n of_o enemy_n be_v ruin_v 4._o no_o opposition_n make_v unto_o the_o church_n will_v be_v able_a to_o make_v any_o promise_n give_v unto_o she_o or_o gracious_a purpose_n of_o god_n concern_v she_o ineffectual_a for_o notwithstanding_o all_o their_o enemy_n or_o war_n and_o trouble_v they_o may_v be_v put_v to_o yet_o jerusalem_n shall_v be_v inhabit_v again_o in_o her_o own_o place_n even_o in_o jerusalem_n verse_n 7._o the_o lord_z also_o shall_v save_v the_o tent_n of_o judah_n first_o that_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o house_n of_o david_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n do_v not_o magnify_v themselves_o against_o judah_n the_o five_o promise_n hold_v forth_o especial_o god_n method_n in_o bring_v about_o this_o promise_a salvation_n and_o help_n
that_o the_o weak_a village_n in_o the_o country_n shall_v get_v the_o first_o proof_n of_o his_o protection_n that_o so_o god_n may_v have_v the_o glory_n of_o save_v they_o and_o such_o as_o have_v either_o power_n or_o prudence_n as_o a_o wall_a town_n and_o great_a ruler_n may_v have_v no_o cause_n to_o glory_n of_o any_o excellency_n in_o they_o above_o other_o to_o make_v themselves_o happy_a doct._n 1._o the_o safety_n of_o all_o the_o church_n be_v a_o matter_n out_o of_o question_n however_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o take_v the_o church_n own_o way_n mean_n or_o method_n to_o be_v tent_n of_o judah_n the_o house_n of_o david_n and_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n 3._o the_o lord_n so_o order_v his_o gracious_a providence_n as_o that_o they_o who_o be_v low_a in_o trouble_n and_o have_v least_o wherewith_o to_o help_v themselves_o do_v lie_v near_a his_o help_n for_o the_o lord_n shall_v save_v the_o tent_n of_o judah_n first_o 4._o the_o lord_n way_n of_o convey_v deliverance_n towards_o his_o people_n will_v be_v so_o order_v as_o that_o he_o alone_o will_v be_v see_v to_o be_v the_o doer_n of_o it_o and_o he_o will_v stain_v the_o pride_n of_o all_o glory_n and_o take_v occasion_n of_o boast_v from_o all_o and_o the_o more_o excellency_n that_o any_o have_v he_o will_v put_v they_o the_o more_o frequent_o to_o be_v humble_v before_o he_o for_o he_o save_v the_o tent_n of_o judah_n first_o that_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o house_n of_o david_n and_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n do_v not_o magnify_v themselves_o against_o judah_n verse_n 8._o in_o that_o day_n shall_v the_o lord_n defend_v the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o he_o that_o be_v feeble_a among_o they_o at_o that_o day_n shall_v be_v as_o david_n and_o the_o house_n of_o david_n shall_v be_v as_o god_n as_o the_o angel_n of_o the_o lord_n before_o they_o the_o six_o promise_n be_v of_o divine_a protection_n take_v in_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o say_v in_o christ_n their_o head_n who_o be_v the_o true_a root_n and_o off_o spring_n of_o david_n and_o they_o his_o family_n and_o train_n and_o who_o be_v true_a god_n and_o as_o he_o be_v the_o angel_n of_o the_o covenant_n who_o go_v before_o the_o people_n in_o their_o deliverance_n out_o of_o egypt_n exod._n 14.19_o and_o 23.23_o so_o he_o promise_v to_o prove_v himself_o the_o same_o again_o doct._n 1._o the_o lord_n will_v so_o have_v a_o care_n of_o all_o his_o people_n as_o however_o he_o see_v meet_v to_o humble_v some_o of_o they_o at_o some_o time_n and_o to_o delay_v his_o help_n till_o they_o be_v humble_v yet_o it_o be_v not_o his_o purpose_n to_o deny_v they_o altogether_o therefore_o be_v the_o promise_n make_v particular_o to_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o david_n house_n to_o show_v that_o however_o he_o will_v prefer_v judabâ—_n tent_n to_o they_o in_o the_o matter_n of_o speedy_a help_n yet_o he_o will_v not_o reject_v they_o in_o that_o day_n shall_v the_o lord_n defend_v the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n etc._n etc._n 2._o the_o lord_n protection_n be_v the_o sure_a safeguard_n of_o his_o church_n beyond_o any_o thing_n they_o get_v strength_n to_o do_v themselves_o yea_o it_o be_v the_o strength_n of_o their_o strength_n to_o abide_v under_o his_o shadow_n with_o it_o therefore_o be_v the_o promise_n of_o defence_n premit_v to_o that_o of_o their_o strength_n as_o be_v their_o sure_a refuge_n and_o that_o which_o make_v they_o strong_a the_o lord_n will_v defend_v jerusalem_n &_o he_o that_o be_v feeble_a shall_v be_v as_o david_n etc._n etc._n 3._o however_o the_o lord_n may_v keep_v his_o people_n in_o a_o low_a &_o weak_a condition_n for_o their_o exercise_n yet_o he_o have_v undertake_v to_o let_v out_o proof_n of_o his_o strength_n in_o they_o in_o a_o time_n of_o need_n in_o a_o singular_a way_n and_o will_v make_v their_o weakness_n in_o themselves_o a_o presage_n of_o their_o be_v strengthen_v in_o he_o he_o that_o be_v feeble_a among_o they_o at_o that_o day_n shall_v be_v as_o david_n 4._o none_o do_v attain_v in_o this_o life_n to_o that_o measure_n of_o strength_n and_o courage_n but_o they_o do_v yet_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o more_o and_o aught_o to_o be_v on_o the_o grow_a hand_n for_o the_o house_n of_o david_n need_v a_o promise_n of_o this_o as_o well_o as_o the_o feeble_a 5._o as_o christ_n will_v be_v unto_o his_o church_n in_o her_o need_n whatever_o he_o have_v be_v unto_o she_o at_o any_o time_n so_o what_o christ_n be_v that_o be_v believer_n in_o he_o their_o head_n as_o the_o house_n of_o david_n so_o in_o he_o verse_n 9_o and_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v in_o that_o day_n that_o i_o will_v seek_v to_o destroy_v all_o the_o nation_n that_o come_v against_o jerusalem_n in_o the_o seven_o promise_n god_n purpose_n of_o destroy_v the_o church_n enemy_n be_v repear_v and_o confirm_v that_o though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o many_o yet_o god_n will_v destroy_v they_o and_o will_v be_v serious_a in_o effectuate_a it_o seek_v out_o secret_a plotter_n as_o well_o as_o open_a enemy_n or_o seek_v they_o out_o after_o they_o be_v scatter_v and_o their_o enterprise_n frustrate_v to_o ruin_v they_o doct._n 1._o the_o lord_n church_n have_v many_o enemy_n both_o open_a and_o secret_a enemy_n stand_v yet_o unbroken_a and_o these_o who_o though_o they_o be_v break_v yet_o remain_v enemy_n for_o there_o be_v a_o all_o of_o the_o nation_n that_o come_v against_o jerusalem_n 2._o albeit_o some_o who_o persecute_v and_o oppose_v the_o church_n of_o god_n may_v find_v mercy_n to_o come_v and_o join_v with_o she_o and_o be_v save_v yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n it_o be_v a_o token_n of_o so_o much_o displeasure_n and_o so_o many_o former_a
