to_o bring_v they_o up_o to_o that_o christian_a purity_n in_o heart_n and_o life_n that_o be_v signify_v thereby_o they_o be_v bind_v indeed_o afterward_o however_o when_o they_o come_v to_o understanding_n to_o reflect_v upon_o the_o obligation_n that_o in_o their_o infancy_n they_o be_v bring_v under_o but_o there_o can_v be_v little_a expectation_n ordinary_o as_o we_o see_v by_o sad_a experience_n that_o ever_o they_o will_v do_v it_o if_o their_o education_n and_o instruction_n be_v neglect_v in_o their_o young_a year_n indeed_o it_o be_v to_o be_v doubt_v that_o the_o baptism_n of_o infant_n with_o many_o be_v turn_v into_o a_o mere_a formality_n and_o the_o charge_n that_o be_v so_o solemn_o and_o particular_o undertake_v by_o godfather_n and_o godmother_n be_v never_o think_v of_o afterward_o to_o any_o purpose_n but_o many_o parent_n think_v that_o they_o do_v their_o duty_n sufficient_o if_o they_o bring_v up_o their_o child_n to_o some_o art_n or_o trade_n or_o provide_v portion_n and_o estate_n for_o they_o whereby_o they_o may_v be_v able_a to_o live_v in_o the_o world_n and_o godfather_n and_o godmother_n if_o they_o do_v but_o give_v they_o something_o as_o a_o token_n of_o their_o respect_n in_o some_o small_a gift_n but_o that_o they_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o lead_v a_o true_o christian_a life_n that_o they_o may_v deny_v ungodliness_n and_o worldly_a lust_n and_o live_v godly_a righteous_o and_o sober_o in_o this_o present_a evil_a world_n which_o be_v the_o great_a end_n of_o baptism_n ordinance_n gospel_n and_o life_n itself_o how_o and_o stand_v in_o the_o church_n as_o ever_o they_o do_v and_o as_o this_o therefore_o be_v once_o the_o privilege_n of_o infant_n of_o abraham_n spiritual_a seed_n to_o stand_v in_o a_o holy_a relation_n to_o god_n as_o his_o peculiar_a covenant-people_n and_o child_n so_o it_o be_v still_o but_o for_o a_o further_a confirmation_n and_o clear_n of_o this_o matter_n we_o may_v observe_v also_o from_o our_o saviour_n some_o such_o indication_n of_o the_o same_o respect_n have_v to_o they_o in_o choose_v call_v and_o esteem_v of_o they_o as_o ever_o to_o this_o purpose_n we_o find_v mark_v 10.14_o they_o bring_v young_a child_n to_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v touch_v they_o or_o as_o st._n matthew_n have_v it_o matth._n 19.13_o that_o he_o shall_v put_v his_o hand_n on_o they_o than_o it_o will_v follow_v from_o it_o for_o if_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n receive_v they_o and_o they_o have_v a_o portion_n in_o that_o the_o visible_a church_n on_o earth_n then_o may_v not_o exclude_v they_o for_o none_o be_v of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n above_o that_o be_v not_o first_o of_o the_o church_n on_o earth_n act_v 2.47_o there_o be_v daily_o add_v to_o the_o church_n such_o as_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o our_o saviour_n reason_n here_o for_o of_o such_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n show_v that_o he_o mean_v this_o of_o such_o infant_n proper_o take_v and_o not_o only_o of_o man_n like_o they_o in_o humility_n for_o that_o can_v be_v no_o reason_n why_o they_o shall_v be_v bring_v unto_o he_o because_o other_o that_o be_v like_o they_o in_o humility_n be_v of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n unless_o they_o be_v also_o of_o the_o same_o and_o his_o pronounce_v this_o as_o a_o reason_n why_o they_o shall_v be_v bring_v unto_o he_o and_o his_o embrace_v they_o also_o in_o his_o arm_n and_o his_o lay_v his_o hand_n upon_o they_o and_o blessing_n they_o sheweth_z a_o great_a deal_n more_o respect_n to_o they_o than_o what_o be_v require_v for_o the_o heal_a they_o of_o any_o bodily_a distemper_n for_o neither_o be_v this_o reason_n nor_o all_o that_o demonstration_n of_o affection_n to_o they_o needful_a for_o that_o when_o if_o they_o have_v not_o be_v of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n they_o shall_v no_o doubt_n have_v be_v heal_v by_o he_o if_o they_o have_v be_v bring_v unto_o he_o and_o when_o they_o have_v be_v bring_v a_o word_n or_o a_o touch_n will_v have_v effect_v that_o without_o so_o much_o embrace_v pray_v and_o blessing_n they_o so_o that_o what_o can_v we_o conclude_v from_o all_o this_o but_o a_o more_o than_o ordinary_a respect_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o little_a child_n
as_o to_o his_o member_n and_o proselyte_n of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o that_o for_o this_o cause_n he_o kind_o treat_v they_o thus_o as_o if_o on_o purpose_n because_o he_o foresee_v how_o little_a regard_n will_v be_v have_v to_o they_o in_o this_o latter_a age_n of_o the_o church_n and_o thus_o again_o luke_n 9.48_o he_o take_v a_o child_n and_o set_v he_o by_o he_o and_o say_v unto_o they_o whosoever_o shall_v receive_v this_o this_o individual_a child_n in_o my_o name_n receive_v i_o but_o how_o can_v little_a child_n be_v receive_v in_o christ_n name_n if_o they_o belong_v not_o visible_o to_o he_o and_o to_o his_o church_n if_o they_o must_v be_v receive_v in_o christ_n name_n so_o that_o whosoever_o receive_v they_o may_v be_v say_v to_o receive_v christ_n they_o must_v be_v spiritual_o relate_v to_o christ_n as_o those_o be_v that_o be_v of_o his_o body_n the_o church_n and_o this_o receive_v they_o into_o the_o church_n must_v needs_o be_v the_o most_o proper_a way_n of_o receive_v they_o in_o christ_n name_n as_o those_o that_o be_v spiritual_o relate_v to_o he_o by_o all_o this_o that_o have_v be_v say_v we_o may_v plain_o see_v the_o like_a continuance_n of_o god_n gracious_a respect_n to_o little_a one_o as_o ever_o without_o the_o least_o abatement_n or_o alteration_n thereof_o so_o that_o be_v once_o choose_v and_o call_v and_o esteem_v by_o god_n as_o his_o child_n and_o peculiar_a people_n as_o well_o as_o any_o of_o the_o adult_n be_v and_o so_o be_v reckon_v therefore_o as_o member_n of_o his_o church_n and_o as_o have_v a_o share_n in_o the_o covenant_n as_o other_o we_o must_v conclude_v from_o these_o continue_a indication_n of_o his_o favour_n and_o kindness_n to_o they_o that_o they_o stand_v in_o the_o same_o relation_n to_o he_o still_o and_o according_o we_o be_v so_o to_o own_o and_o receive_v they_o ii_o i_o now_o proceed_v to_o that_o which_o be_v in_o the_o second_o place_n propose_v for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o our_o argument_n viz._n that_o infant_n or_o little_a child_n be_v to_o be_v own_v and_o reckon_v by_o we_o as_o the_o child_n of_o god_n and_o member_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n to_o who_o the_o promise_a blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n belong_v they_o be_v therefore_o to_o be_v baptize_v the_o rightfulness_n and_o reasonableness_n of_o which_o consequence_n i_o shall_v now_o endeavour_v to_o make_v out_o 1._o from_o the_o nature_n and_o end_n of_o baptism_n which_o be_v appoint_v by_o christ_n to_o be_v the_o ordinance_n of_o initiation_n into_o the_o visible_a church_n they_o out_o from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n and_o to_o take_v they_o into_o his_o own_o family_n and_o to_o reckon_v they_o among_o his_o people_n together_o with_o other_o that_o be_v adult_n
