other_o creature_n this_o rareness_n of_o humane_a conception_n do_v intimate_v unto_o we_o that_o it_o be_v not_o by_o the_o power_n of_o nature_n alone_o that_o man_n be_v conceive_v in_o the_o womb_n but_o that_o there_o be_v some_o more_o special_a work_n of_o god_n in_o it_o than_o in_o the_o generation_n of_o other_o creature_n and_o if_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o god_n have_v such_o a_o special_a work_n in_o the_o conception_n of_o man_n why_o shall_v we_o not_o think_v that_o the_o soul_n have_v its_o beginning_n then_o also_o rather_o than_o with_o reverence_n be_v it_o speak_v to_o put_v god_n to_o a_o double_a labour_n and_o to_o set_v he_o twice_o on_o work_n in_o every_o man_n generation_n nature_n 2._o god_n shall_v be_v tie_v to_o nature_n and_o this_o may_v far_o have_v its_o extremity_n have_v therefore_o show_v that_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n can_v neither_o be_v immediate_o create_v by_o god_n not_o yet_o mere_o propagate_v by_o man_n and_o prove_v this_o middle_a way_n between_o both_o both_o by_o scripture_n and_o natural_a reason_n i_o will_v now_o in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o there_o may_v remain_v no_o just_a scruple_n to_o cavil_n at_o thing_n that_o eat_v inferior_a and_o subject_a to_o sense_n but_o how_o they_o know_v that_o be_v by_o sense_n cogitative_a the_o high_a perfection_n of_o their_o nature_n they_o know_v not_o for_o that_o be_v to_o be_v comprehend_v by_o a_o high_a perfection_n that_o be_v by_o reason_n and_o thereby_o indeed_o man_n know_v how_o they_o know_v but_o how_o they_o know_v that_o even_o themselves_o do_v not_o know_v otherwise_o then_o by_o the_o effect_n and_o by_o way_n of_o reflection_n but_o the_o thing_n itself_o that_o be_v the_o essence_n of_o
the_o soul_n the_o soul_n itself_o can_v proper_o know_v inferior_a every_o nature_n as_o it_o be_v more_o excellent_a prove_v itself_o and_o the_o inferior_a yet_o we_o must_v know_v that_o we_o know_v our_o soul_n better_a than_o beast_n do_v themselves_o and_o no_o doubt_n angel_n themselves_o better_v than_o we_o do_v ourselves_o and_o god_n who_o be_v above_o all_o know_v himself_o absolute_o and_o perfect_o all_o why_o god_n know_v all_o because_o his_o nature_n be_v of_o that_o height_n that_o essence_n and_o knowledge_n in_o he_o be_v all_o one_o thus_o we_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o god_n only_o can_v perfect_o contemplate_v himself_o &_o every_o other_o creature_n as_o it_o come_v near_a to_o his_o nature_n can_v thereby_o contemplate_v itself_o and_o those_o upon_o it_o and_o so_o discern_v all_o those_o difficulty_n which_o now_o he_o can_v comprehend_v even_o as_o by_o these_o soul_n we_o can_v look_v down_o upon_o inferior_a creature_n and_o judge_v of_o elementary_a creature_n in_o the_o world_n for_o as_o love_v so_o knowledge_n do_v descend_v and_o therefore_o if_o we_o have_v such_o superior_a soul_n yet_o than_o we_o shall_v find_v as_o much_o difficulty_n in_o they_o also_o here_o therefore_o it_o be_v to_o be_v notedâ—_n that_o no_o nature_n except_v god_n can_v know_v itself_o perfect_o so_o neither_o proper_o but_o as_o it_o be_v it_o which_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o imperfect_a shadow_n and_o indeed_o not_o so_o much_o as_o a_o shadow_n of_o perfection_n and_o herein_o it_o bear_v the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o a_o special_a manner_n who_o can_v be_v know_v proper_o but_o only_o by_o his_o creature_n rather_o what_o he_o be_v not_o than_o what_o he_o be_v so_o that_o as_o it_o be_v proper_a to_o he_o alone_o who_o be_v the_o perfection_n of_o all_o nature_n to_o know_v all_o thing_n so_o he_o only_o can_v proper_o and_o perfect_o know_v both_o they_o and_o himself_o know_v how_o far_o the_o soul_n original_a may_v be_v know_v some_o perhaps_o will_v say_v if_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v know_v than_o it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o inquire_v after_o it_o i_o answer_v that_o though_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v very_o difficult_a especial_o the_o original_n of_o it_o and_o though_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o know_v it_o perfect_o and_o so_o proper_o as_o we_o know_v other_o thing_n for_o the_o reason_n abovesaid_a yet_o there_o be_v a_o competency_n and_o such_o as_o may_v give_v reasonable_a satisfaction_n to_o our_o nature_n to_o be_v attain_v and_o therewith_o we_o ought_v
