cockatrice_n scorpion_n and_o other_o venomous_a creature_n as_o shall_v be_v afterward_o declare_v 10_o have_v declare_v the_o name_n of_o this_o place_n and_o thereby_o also_o in_o some_o part_n the_o nature_n it_o remain_v now_o that_o we_o consider_v what_o manner_n of_o pain_n man_n suffer_v there_o universal_a for_o declaration_n whereof_o we_o must_v note_v that_o as_o heaven_n and_o hell_n be_v contrary_a assign_v to_o contrary_a person_n for_o contrary_a cause_n so_o have_v they_o in_o all_o respect_v contrary_a property_n condition_n and_o effect_n in_o such_o sort_n as_o whatsoever_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o felicity_n of_o the_o one_o may_v serve_v to_o infer_v the_o contrary_a of_o the_o other_o as_o when_o saint_n paul_n say_v that_o no_o eye_n have_v see_v nor_o ear_n hear_v nor_o hart_n conceive_v the_o joy_n that_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o they_o that_o shall_v be_v save_v 2._o we_o may_v infer_v that_o the_o pain_n of_o the_o damn_a must_v be_v as_o great_a again_o when_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o the_o felicity_n of_o they_o in_o heaven_n be_v a_o perfect_a felicity_n 33._o contain_v omne_fw-la bonum_fw-la all_o goodness_n so_o that_o no_o one_o kind_n of_o pleasure_n can_v be_v imagine_v which_o they_o have_v not_o we_o must_v think_v on_o the_o contrary_a part_n that_o the_o misery_n of_o the_o damn_a must_v be_v also_o a_o perfect_a misery_n contain_v all_o affliction_n that_o may_v be_v without_o want_v any_o so_o that_o as_o the_o happiness_n of_o the_o good_a be_v infinite_a and_o universal_a so_o also_o be_v the_o calamity_n of_o the_o wicked_a infinite_a and_o universal_a now_o in_o this_o life_n all_o the_o misery_n &_o pain_n which_o fall_n upon_o man_n be_v but_o particular_a and_o not_o universal_a as_o for_o example_n we_o see_v one_o man_n pain_v in_o his_o eye_n another_o in_o his_o back_n which_o particular_a pain_n notwithstanding_o sometime_o be_v so_o extreme_a as_o life_n be_v not_o able_a to_o resist_v they_o and_o a_o man_n will_v not_o suffer_v they_o long_o for_o the_o gain_n of_o many_o world_n together_o but_o suppose_v now_o a_o man_n be_v torment_v in_o all_o the_o part_n of_o his_o body_n at_o once_o as_o in_o his_o head_n his_o eye_n his_o tongue_n his_o tooth_n his_o throat_n his_o stomach_n his_o belly_n his_o back_n his_o hart_n his_o side_n his_o thigh_n and_o in_o all_o the_o joint_n of_o his_o body_n beside_o suppose_v i_o say_v he_o be_v most_o cruel_o torment_v with_o extreme_a pain_n in_o all_o these_o part_n together_o without_o ease_n or_o intermission_n what_o thing_n can_v be_v more_o miserable_a than_o this_o what_o sight_n more_o lamentable_a if_o thou_o shall_v see_v a_o dogly_a in_o the_o street_n so_o afflict_v i_o know_v thou_o can_v not_o but_o take_v compassion_n upon_o he_o well_o then_o consider_v what_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o abide_v these_o pain_n for_o a_o week_n or_o for_o all_o eternity_n in_o suffer_v they_o upon_o a_o soft_a bed_n or_o upon_o a_o burn_a grediron_n and_o boil_a furnace_n among_o a_o man_n friend_n comfort_v he_o or_o among_o the_o fury_n of_o hell_n whip_v and_o torment_v he_o consider_v this_o i_o say_v gentle_a reader_n and_o if_o thou_o will_v take_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o labour_n rather_o than_o abide_v the_o one_o in_o this_o life_n be_v content_a to_o sustain_v a_o little_a pain_n rather_o than_o to_o incur_v the_o other_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v 11_o but_o to_o consider_v these_o thing_n yet_o further_o part_n not_o only_o all_o these_o part_n of_o the_o body_n which_o have_v be_v instrument_n to_o sin_n shall_v be_v torment_v together_o but_o also_o every_o sense_n both_o external_a &_o internal_a for_o the_o same_o cause_n shall_v be_v afflict_v with_o his_o particular_a torment_n contrary_a to_o the_o object_n wherein_o it_o delit_v most_o &_o take_v pleasure_n in_o this_o world_n as_o if_o for_o example_n the_o lascivious_a eye_n be_v afflict_v with_o the_o ugly_a &_o fearful_a sight_n of_o devil_n the_o delicate_a ear_n with_o the_o horrible_a noise_n of_o damn_a spirit_n the_o nice_a smell_n with_o poison_a stench_n of_o brimstone_n &_o other_o unsupportable_a filth_n the_o dainty_a taste_n with_o most_o ravenous_a hunger_n and_o thirst_n &_o all_o the_o sensible_a part_n of_o the_o body_n with_o burn_a fire_n again_o the_o imagination_n shall_v be_v torment_v with_o the_o apprehension_n of_o pain_n present_a and_o to_o come_v the_o memory_n with_o the_o remembrance_n of_o pleasure_n past_a the_o understanding_n with_o consideration_n of_o the_o felicity_n lose_v and_o the_o misery_n now_o come_v on_o o_o poor_a christian_a what_o will_v thou_o do_v amid_o the_o multitude_n of_o so_o grievous_a calamity_n chastisement_n 12_o it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a matter_n and_o able_a as_o one_o father_n say_v to_o make_v a_o reasonable_a man_n go_v out_o of_o his_o wit_n to_o consider_v what_o god_n have_v reveal_v unto_o we_o in_o the_o scripture_n of_o the_o dreadful_a circumstance_n of_o this_o punishment_n and_o yet_o to_o see_v how_o little_a the_o reckless_a man_n of_o the_o world_n do_v fear_v it_o for_o first_o touch_v the_o universality_n variety_n and_o greatness_n of_o the_o pain_n not_o only_o the_o reason_n before_o allege_v but_o also_o divers_a other_o consideration_n in_o the_o scripture_n do_v declare_v as_o where_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o damn_a 16._o cruciabuntur_fw-la die_fw-la &_o nocte_fw-la they_o shall_v be_v torment_v day_n and_o night_n and_o again_o date_fw-la illi_fw-la tormentum_fw-la give_v her_o torment_n speak_v of_o babylon_n in_o hell_n by_o which_o be_v signify_v that_o the_o pain_n in_o hell_n be_v exercise_v not_o for_o chastisement_n but_o for_o torment_v of_o the_o party_n and_o torment_v common_o we_o see_v in_o this_o world_n to_o be_v as_o great_a and_o as_o extreme_a as_o the_o wit_n of_o a_o man_n can_v reach_v to_o devise_v imagine_v then_o when_o god_n shall_v lay_v his_o head_n to_o devise_v torment_n as_o he_o have_v do_v in_o hell_n what_o manner_n of_o torment_n will_v they_o be_v hell_n 13_o if_o create_v a_o element_n here_o for_o our_o comfort_n i_o mean_v the_o fire_n he_o can_v create_v the_o same_o so_o terrible_a as_o it_o be_v in_o such_o sort_n as_o a_o man_n will_v not_o hold_v his_o only_o hand_n in_o it_o one_o day_n for_o to_o gain_v a_o kingdom_n what_o a_o fire_n think_v you_o have_v he_o provide_v for_o hell_n which_o be_v not_o create_v for_o comfort_n but_o only_o for_o torment_v of_o the_o party_n our_o fire_n have_v many_o difference_n from_o that_o &_o therefore_o be_v true_o say_v of_o the_o holy_a father_n to_o be_v but_o a_o paint_a and_o feign_a fire_n in_o respect_n of_o that_o for_o our_o fire_n be_v make_v to_o comfort_v as_o i_o have_v say_v and_o that_o to_o torment_v our_o fire_n have_v need_v to_o be_v feed_v continual_o with_o wood_n or_o else_o it_o go_v out_o that_o burn_v continual_o without_o feed_v we_o give_v light_a that_o give_v none_o we_o be_v out_o of_o his_o natural_a place_n and_o therefore_o shift_v to_o ascend_v and_o to_o get_v from_o we_o as_o we_o see_v but_o that_o be_v in_o the_o natural_a place_n where_o it_o be_v create_v &_o therefore_o it_o abide_v there_o perpetual_o we_o consume_v the_o matter_n lay_v in_o it_o and_o so_o quiklie_o dispatch_v the_o pain_n that_o torment_v but_o consume_v not_o to_o the_o end_n the_o pain_n may_v be_v everlasting_a our_o fire_n be_v extinguish_v with_o water_n and_o great_o abate_v by_o the_o coldness_n of_o the_o air_n about_o it_o that_o have_v no_o such_o abatement_n or_o qualification_n final_o what_o a_o strange_a and_o incredible_a kind_n of_o fire_n that_o be_v appear_v by_o these_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n so_o often_o repeat_v 13._o there_o shall_v be_v weep_v and_o gnash_n of_o tooth_n weep_v be_v to_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o effect_n of_o extreme_a burn_a in_o that_o fire_n for_o that_o the_o torment_n of_o scald_a and_o burn_v enforce_v tear_n soon_o than_o any_o other_o torment_n as_o appear_v in_o they_o which_o upon_o the_o sudden_a do_v put_v a_o hot_a thing_n into_o their_o mouth_n or_o scald_v any_o other_o part_n of_o their_o body_n and_o cause_n gnash_v of_o tooth_n or_o chatter_a at_o least_o as_o every_o man_n know_v proceed_v of_o great_a and_o extreme_a cold_a imagine_v then_o what_o a_o fire_n this_o be_v which_o have_v such_o extreme_a effect_n both_o of_o heat_n and_o cold_a o_o mighty_a lord_n what_o a_o strange_a god_n be_v thou_o how_o wonderful_a and_o terrible_a in_o all_o thy_o work_n and_o invention_n how_o bountiful_a be_v thou_o to_o those_o
and_o be_v not_o ready_a jump_o at_o the_o very_a hour_n to_o go_v in_o with_o he_o and_o will_v not_o know_v they_o when_o they_o come_v after_o and_o final_o he_o promise_v to_o damn_v all_o those_o without_o exception_n which_o shall_v work_v iniquity_n 13._o as_o s._n matthew_n testify_v 7_o moreover_o be_v ask_v by_o a_o certain_a ruler_n on_o a_o time_n how_o he_o may_v be_v save_v he_o will_v geeve_v he_o no_o other_o hope_n so_o long_o as_o he_o seek_v salvation_n by_o his_o work_n though_o he_o be_v a_o prince_n but_o only_o this_o if_o thou_o will_v enter_v into_o life_n 19_o joy_n and_o comfort_n when_o so_o many_o thousand_o of_o wicked_a people_n shall_v appear_v there_o to_o their_o eternal_a confusion_n 10_o and_o because_o there_o be_v nothing_o which_o so_o fit_o show_v the_o severity_n of_o christ_n in_o take_v our_o account_n at_o the_o last_o day_n judgement_n as_o the_o order_n and_o manner_n of_o this_o judgement_n describe_v most_o diligent_o by_o the_o touch_v the_o first_o of_o these_o two_o judgement_n albeit_o the_o holy_a ancient_a father_n especial_o saint_n austen_n do_v gather_v and_o consider_v divers_a particular_n of_o great_a severity_n and_o fear_n as_o the_o passage_n of_o our_o soul_n from_o the_o body_n to_o the_o tribunal_n seat_n of_o god_n under_o the_o custody_n both_o of_o good_a and_o evil_a angel_n the_o fear_n she_o have_v of_o they_o the_o sudden_a strangeness_n of_o the_o place_n where_o she_o be_v the_o terror_n of_o god_n presence_n the_o strait_a examination_n she_o must_v abide_v and_o the_o like_a yet_o for_o that_o the_o most_o of_o these_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v consider_v also_o in_o the_o second_o judgement_n which_o be_v general_a i_o will_v pass_v over_o to_o the_o same_o note_v only_o certain_a reason_n yield_v by_o the_o holy_a father_n why_o god_n after_o the_o first_o judgement_n appoint_v wherein_o he_o have_v assign_v to_o each_o man_n according_a to_o his_o desert_n in_o particular_a will_v appoint_v moreover_o this_o second_o general_a judgement_n whereof_o the_o first_o be_v for_o that_o the_o body_n of_o man_n rise_v from_o his_o sepulchre_n may_v be_v partaker_n of_o the_o eternal_a punishment_n or_o glory_n of_o the_o soul_n even_o as_o it_o have_v be_v partaker_n with_o the_o same_o either_o in_o virtue_n or_o vice_n in_o this_o life_n the_o second_o be_v that_o as_o christ_n be_v dishonour_v and_o put_v to_o confusion_n here_o in_o the_o world_n public_o so_o much_o more_o he_o may_v show_v his_o majesty_n and_o power_n at_o that_o day_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o all_o creature_n and_o especial_o of_o his_o enemy_n the_o three_o be_v that_o both_o the_o wicked_a and_o good_a may_v receive_v their_o reward_n open_o to_o more_o confusion_n &_o hart_n grief_n of_o the_o one_o and_o to_o the_o great_a joy_n and_o triumph_v of_o the_o other_o who_o common_o in_o this_o world_n have_v be_v overbear_v by_o the_o wicked_a the_o four_o be_v for_o that_o evil_a man_n when_o they_o die_v do_v not_o common_o carry_v with_o they_o all_o their_o demerit_n and_o evil_n for_o that_o they_o leave_v behind_o they_o either_o their_o evil_a example_n or_o their_o child_n reader_n and_o familiar_n corrupt_v by_o they_o or_o else_o book_n and_o mean_n which_o may_v in_o time_n corrupt_v other_o all_o which_o be_v not_o yet_o do_v but_o come_v to_o pass_v after_o their_o death_n they_o can_v so_o convenient_o receive_v their_o judgement_n for_o the_o same_o present_o but_o as_o the_o evil_n fall_v out_o so_o their_o pain_n be_v to_o be_v increase_v the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o the_o good_a so_o that_o for_o example_n sake_n saint_n paul_n glory_n be_v increase_v daily_o and_o shall_v be_v unto_o the_o world_n end_n by_o reason_n of_o they_o that_o daily_a profit_n by_o his_o writing_n and_o example_n and_o the_o pain_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v for_o the_o like_a reason_n daily_o augment_v but_o at_o the_o last_o day_n of_o judgement_n shall_v be_v a_o end_n
work_n but_o to_o the_o free_a mercy_n of_o god_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n if_o saint_n paul_n have_v purpose_v to_o exhort_v to_o newness_n of_o life_n he_o will_v there_o have_v tell_v we_o as_o elsewhere_o he_o do_v that_o though_o we_o have_v all_o faith_n and_o have_v not_o love_n yet_o all_o be_v nothing_o so_o for_o the_o doctrine_n of_o justification_n likewise_o i_o trust_v there_o be_v no_o such_o absurdity_n hold_v by_o we_o that_o any_o may_v have_v any_o just_a cause_n to_o fear_v to_o join_v with_o we_o therein_o 9_o those_o thing_n that_o hinder_v hinder_v be_v for_o some_o respect_n their_o person_n especial_o and_o one_o other_o there_o be_v that_o somewhat_o respect_v the_o cause_n likewise_o those_o that_o do_v most_o proper_o respect_v their_o person_n be_v especial_o two_o one_o that_o proceed_v from_o regard_n of_o their_o credit_n which_o be_v somewhat_o touch_v before_o as_o one_o of_o the_o inconvenience_n that_o hereby_o they_o shall_v have_v that_o they_o doubt_n will_v fall_v upon_o they_o be_v partly_o with_o all_o general_o but_o especial_o with_o those_o with_o who_o they_o have_v so_o long_o hold_v together_o for_o with_o all_o general_o it_o be_v like_a to_o be_v some_o disgrace_n unto_o they_o for_o that_o they_o have_v all_o so_o profess_v and_o some_o of_o they_o beside_o have_v according_o teach_v but_o yet_o no_o such_o as_o of_o right_n may_v hold_v they_o still_o in_o the_o course_n that_o now_o they_o be_v in_o for_o as_o touch_v their_o profession_n it_o be_v very_o incident_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n to_o be_v deceive_v especial_o in_o the_o truth_n of_o religion_n howsoever_o we_o have_v a_o reasonable_a good_a sight_n in_o other_o thing_n yet_o in_o this_o the_o best_a of_o we_o all_o be_v far_o to_o seek_v for_o any_o thing_n that_o we_o have_v in_o ourselves_o to_o help_v we_o withal_o neither_o be_v we_o only_o to_o seek_v herein_o but_o also_o prone_a to_o conceive_v best_a like_v of_o that_o which_o be_v wrong_a but_o beside_o their_o own_o natural_a weakness_n and_o inclination_n they_o may_v well_o remember_v that_o the_o former_a day_n be_v such_o and_o their_o own_o proper_a education_n withal_o that_o whosoever_o be_v of_o any_o reasonable_a consideration_n will_v easy_o pardon_v for_o the_o former_a time_n such_o wander_n unto_o they_o for_o both_o those_o thing_n be_v very_o forcible_a to_o lead_v we_o away_o with_o they_o whersoever_o there_o be_v not_o the_o special_a grace_n of_o god_n holy_a spirit_n both_o for_o to_o teach_v we_o a_o better_a course_n and_o to_o lead_v we_o therein_o so_o with_o man_n who_o be_v all_o of_o the_o selfsame_o mould_n and_o have_v all_o have_v our_o part_n of_o that_o other_o infection_n beside_o it_o be_v a_o very_a pardonable_a matter_n in_o religion_n to_o have_v hold_v that_o course_n that_o they_o do_v pardonable_a i_o say_v in_o respect_n of_o our_o own_o natural_a impotency_n and_o inclination_n from_o we_o but_o only_o in_o those_o point_n that_o be_v in_o controversy_n betwixt_o we_o and_o for_o the_o rest_n agree_v together_o and_o acknowledge_v likewise_o that_o in_o those_o we_o be_v
