certain_o that_o herein_o the_o service_n due_a to_o the_o master_n be_v most_o considerable_a may_v be_v gather_v by_o what_o already_o have_v be_v say_v as_o also_o by_o weigh_v or_o judge_v of_o their_o mutual_a bond_n for_o if_o any_o demand_n what_o be_v the_o servant_n duty_n or_o bond_n there_o be_v none_o i_o think_v that_o will_v not_o answer_v to_o serve_v his_o lord_n and_o master_n but_o on_o the_o other_o side_n seek_v what_o be_v the_o master_n duty_n we_o shall_v find_v it_o to_o benefit_v the_o servant_n according_a to_o his_o merit_n so_o that_o by_o this_o mutual_a obligation_n these_o two_o term_n master_n and_o servant_n be_v unite_v together_o in_o a_o society_n the_o which_o as_o have_v already_o be_v say_v have_v for_o the_o end_n a_o common_a profit_n this_o grant_v it_o seem_v that_o the_o master_n scope_n or_o end_n be_v the_o servant_n benefit_n and_o that_o of_o the_o servant_n the_o master_n service_n since_o their_o duty_n have_v these_o reference_n and_o if_o it_o be_v so_o there_o grow_v a_o doubt_n how_o it_o may_v be_v verify_v that_o every_o one_o work_v for_o his_o peculiar_a profit_n or_o that_o this_o be_v the_o natural_a inclination_n of_o every_o man_n and_o of_o all_o work_a thing_n but_o it_o be_v answer_v that_o the_o end_n be_v of_o two_o sort_n either_o desire_v or_o intend_v by_o themselves_o or_o by_o accident_n and_o cause_v by_o another_o whereby_o it_o follow_v that_o two_o which_o between_o themselves_o seem_v contrary_a may_v desire_v one_o thing_n without_o repugnancy_n as_o in_o this_o for_o this_o cause_n desire_v and_o work_v in_o the_o service_n of_o his_o lord_n since_o that_o from_o hence_o final_o he_o draw_v the_o profit_n and_o commodity_n which_o he_o long_v after_o whereby_o there_o be_v no_o contradiction_n at_o all_o that_o the_o servant_n shall_v have_v for_o his_o end_n his_o proper_a benefit_n and_o withal_o the_o service_n of_o his_o master_n yet_o this_o of_o the_o foresay_a end_n proper_a interest_n service_n and_o the_o prince_n favour_n be_v as_o it_o be_v say_v the_o courtier_n end_n of_o the_o which_o his_o proper_a interest_n be_v the_o first_o and_o by_o itself_o desire_v the_o other_o by_o accident_n and_o as_o mean_n now_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o this_o term_n favour_n be_v so_o manifest_a that_o it_o need_v no_o other_o explication_n but_o those_o of_o proper_a interest_n and_o the_o prince_n service_n be_v not_o so_o well_o understand_v both_o the_o one_o &_o the_o other_o term_n contain_v many_o thing_n unto_o the_o which_o it_o may_v be_v the_o end_n and_o duty_n of_o a_o courtier_n do_v not_o extend_v let_v we_o first_o then_o consider_v the_o service_n and_o say_v thus_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o the_o prince_n have_v diverse_a and_o many_o sort_n of_o man_n which_o serve_v he_o as_o the_o soldier_n in_o the_o war_n the_o magistrate_n in_o
hold_v it_o fit_a to_o begin_v upon_o this_o ground_n say_v that_o adulation_n general_o be_v a_o honour_n which_o either_o deserve_o or_o undeserued_o be_v give_v by_o the_o inferior_a unto_o the_o superior_a to_o the_o end_n to_o please_v he_o for_o his_o own_o benefit_n or_o interest_n and_o this_o for_o the_o present_n shall_v be_v the_o definition_n the_o which_o we_o leave_v to_o examine_v be_v virtue_n and_o the_o natural_a power_n and_o faculty_n because_o we_o do_v not_o only_o praise_v temperance_n fortitude_n liberality_n etc._n etc._n but_o a_o pregnant_a and_o quick_a understanding_n a_o vigilant_a and_o provident_a mind_n and_o because_o these_o be_v sometime_o the_o efficient_a cause_n or_o cause_n conseruant_a of_o the_o outward_a part_n it_o follow_v that_o praise_v the_o external_a part_n we_o commend_v also_o the_o cause_n of_o they_o but_o to_o conclude_v the_o principal_a commendation_n and_o most_o of_o all_o to_o be_v desire_v be_v that_o of_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o mind_n true_a it_o be_v that_o these_o be_v not_o of_o all_o man_n alike_o prise_v and_o esteem_v there_o be_v many_o who_o have_v rather_o be_v commend_v for_o wealth_n power_n and_o honour_n than_o for_o wisdom_n magnanimity_n and_o beneficence_n nay_o there_o be_v some_o so_o blind_a of_o understanding_n that_o have_v rather_o be_v account_v fair_a comely_a agile_a and_o gallant_a of_o body_n than_o more_o or_o as_o learned_a as_o aristotle_n or_o eloquent_a as_o cicero_n and_o who_o doubt_v but_o that_o it_o be_v more_o grateful_a and_o please_a to_o nero_n the_o praise_n of_o his_o sing_n than_o whatsoever_o other_o commendation_n either_o of_o temperance_n modesty_n or_o justice_n and_o questionless_a if_o any_o man_n shall_v take_v upon_o he_o to_o add_v unto_o the_o female_a sex_n all_o those_o commendation_n and_o applause_n that_o please_a eloquence_n can_v figure_v or_o paint_v out_o but_o will_v abate_v their_o beauty_n out_o of_o it_o i_o
