most_o notorious_a lamentable_a instance_n suffice_v the_o great_a part_n of_o our_o parishioner_n in_o most_o place_n of_o the_o land_n be_v lamentable_o ignorant_a and_o careless_a in_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o salvation_n and_o all_o that_o we_o can_v do_v be_v too_o little_a to_o bring_v they_o to_o understand_v the_o matter_n of_o absolute_a necessity_n and_o yet_o almost_o all_o of_o they_o be_v so_o much_o wise_a in_o their_o own_o conceit_n than_o the_o able_a of_o their_o teacher_n that_o if_o we_o do_v not_o humour_v they_o and_o be_v not_o rule_v by_o they_o in_o our_o doctrine_n and_o administration_n about_o sacrament_n prayer_n burial_n and_o the_o rest_n yea_o if_o we_o obey_v they_o not_o in_o gesture_n and_o form_n they_o turn_v their_o back_n upon_o officer_n and_o ordinance_n and_o the_o church_n itself_o and_o pour_v out_o their_o reproach_n upon_o their_o teacher_n as_o if_o we_o be_v ignorant_a in_o comparison_n of_o they_o even_o of_o they_o that_o know_v not_o so_o much_o as_o child_n of_o seven_o or_o eight_o year_n old_a shall_v know_v see_v here_o the_o wonderful_a bewitched_a power_n of_o a_o selfish_a disposition_n and_o in_o matter_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n what_o be_v it_o more_o than_o this_o nay_o what_o be_v it_o beside_o this_o that_o make_v prince_n become_v tyrant_n and_o ruler_n keep_v under_o the_o ordinance_n and_o interest_n of_o christ_n or_o fearful_o neglect_v they_o and_o look_v after_o the_o church_n in_o the_o last_o place_n when_o they_o have_v no_o business_n of_o their_o own_o to_o call_v they_o off_o and_o to_o begin_v to_o build_v god_n house_n when_o they_o have_v first_o build_v their_o own_o not_o imitate_v nehemiah_n labourer_n that_o have_v the_o sword_n in_o one_o hand_n and_o the_o trewel_n in_o the_o other_o and_o build_v in_o their_o arm_n what_o else_o make_v they_o give_v god_n but_o their_o leave_n who_o give_v they_o all_o and_o what_o else_o can_v make_v they_o such_o be_v this_o that_o pervert_v the_o judgement_n and_o this_o that_o oppress_v the_o poor_a and_o innocent_a and_o this_o that_o by_v the_o tongue_n and_o hand_n of_o justice_n so_o that_o abundance_n of_o they_o do_v little_o more_o than_o possess_v the_o room_n and_o stand_v like_o a_o arm_a statue_n or_o a_o signpost_n which_o hurt_v none_o alehouse_n do_v what_o their_o list_n for_o they_o and_o drunkard_n and_o swearer_n be_v bold_a at_o their_o nose_n and_o they_o be_v no_o terror_n to_o evil_a doer_n nor_o revenger_n to_o execute_v wrath_n upon_o they_o nor_o minister_n that_o use_v to_o be_v injury_n and_o will_v do_v all_o that_o they_o can_v against_o justice_n and_o the_o officer_n of_o it_o when_o it_o be_v to_o defend_v themselves_o or_o they_o from_o the_o execution_n of_o it_o so_o rare_a a_o thing_n be_v it_o to_o meet_v with_o a_o man_n that_o be_v a_o friend_n to_o law_n and_o justice_n when_o themselves_o must_v suffer_v by_o it_o 6._o selfishness_n also_o make_v man_n withdraw_v from_o all_o those_o necessary_a burden_n and_o duty_n that_o be_v for_o the_o preservation_n of_o church_n or_o commonwealth_n such_o wretch_n have_v rather_o the_o gospel_n be_v thrust_v out_o of_o door_n than_o it_o shall_v cost_v they_o much_o and_o have_v rather_o have_v the_o unworthy_a man_n that_o will_v be_v their_o teacher_n for_o a_o little_a than_o allow_v the_o best_a that_o maintenance_n that_o the_o gospel_n do_v command_v or_o give_v they_o what_o the_o law_n have_v make_v their_o own_o they_o will_v venture_v the_o ruin_n of_o church_n and_o state_n and_o let_v all_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o common_a enemy_n rather_o than_o hazard_v their_o person_n or_o lay_v out_o their_o estate_n for_o the_o common_a preservation_n so_o that_o if_o the_o hand_n of_o violence_n do_v not_o sometime_o squeeze_v those_o sponge_n and_o force_v these_o leech_n to_o disgorge_v themselves_o they_o will_v but_o impoverish_v the_o commonwealth_n by_o their_o riches_n and_o weaken_v the_o body_n like_o wen_n or_o impostume_n by_o draw_v to_o themselves_o 7._o and_o then_o the_o selfish_n be_v such_o cause_n of_o division_n that_o if_o they_o do_v no_o other_o harm_n they_o will_v break_v both_o church_n and_o state_n into_o piece_n if_o their_o humour_n be_v predominant_a and_o not_o restrain_v or_o purge_v out_o and_o in_o this_o regard_n selfishness_n be_v the_o direct_a enemy_n of_o society_n and_o be_v always_o at_o work_n to_o dissolve_v they_o into_o independent_a individual_n a_o society_n be_v a_o political_a body_n which_o must_v have_v but_o one_o head_n and_o one_o interest_n and_o one_o end_v but_o when_o selfishness_n prevail_v there_o be_v as_o many_o head_n and_o end_n and_o interest_n as_o person_n if_o they_o be_v in_o a_o church_n every_o one_o be_v the_o teacher_n and_o ruler_n and_o every_o one_o must_v have_v his_o opinion_n countenance_v and_o his_o humour_n satisfy_v every_o one_o must_v have_v his_o way_n and_o will_n and_o how_o be_v this_o possible_a when_o their_o mind_n be_v so_o various_a and_o contrary_a to_o one_o another_o and_o their_o interest_n so_o inconsistent_a and_o there_o be_v as_o many_o ruler_n as_o person_n when_o every_o man_n be_v draw_v to_o himself_o and_o there_o be_v no_o centre_n in_o which_o they_o can_v unite_v what_o work_n be_v there_o like_a to_o be_v in_o the_o church_n what_o progress_n can_v be_v make_v in_o the_o build_n of_o babel_n when_o no_o man_n be_v rule_v by_o another_o but_o every_o man_n run_v confuse_o after_o his_o single_a imagination_n what_o a_o army_n will_v it_o be_v and_o how_o be_v they_o like_v to_o speed_v in_o fight_n where_o every_o soldier_n be_v instead_o of_o a_o captain_n and_o general_n to_o himself_o and_o one_o run_v this_o way_n and_o another_o that_o way_n and_o one_o will_v have_v one_o course_n take_v and_o another_o another_o course_n and_o every_o one_o fight_v on_o his_o own_o head_n such_o work_n do_v selfishness_n make_v in_o the_o church_n it_o be_v this_o that_o have_v break_v it_o into_o so_o many_o parcel_n and_o will_v crumble_v it_o all_o to_o dust_n if_o it_o shall_v prevail_v and_o it_o be_v this_o also_o that_o cause_v the_o division_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n faction_n rise_v up_o against_o faction_n
you_o by_o god_n that_o you_o may_v be_v accept_v by_o he_o and_o offer_v your_o self_n and_o all_o your_o labour_n pure_o to_o he_o and_o to_o his_o honour_n and_o his_o will_n god_n will_v take_v these_o for_o honourable_a service_n and_o you_o be_v as_o true_o at_o his_o work_n even_o in_o your_o shop_n and_o field_n as_o prince_n be_v in_o rule_v or_o pastor_n in_o teach_v or_o guide_v the_o flock_n you_o that_o be_v poor_a and_o can_v set_v so_o much_o time_n apart_o for_o read_v and_o other_o holy_a duty_n as_o some_o other_o do_v see_v that_o you_o neglect_v no_o holy_a opportunity_n and_o life_n and_o all_o that_o you_o have_v and_o when_o you_o be_v call_v to_o your_o daily_a labour_n look_v but_o to_o your_o heart_n that_o god_n be_v your_o end_n and_o that_o you_o can_v true_o say_v i_o do_v not_o this_o principal_o to_o provide_v for_o myself_o but_o as_o a_o obedient_a child_n in_o my_o father_n service_n because_o he_o bid_v i_o do_v it_o and_o it_o be_v please_v to_o be_v honour_v and_o sanctify_v by_o this_o for_o all_o be_v holy_a that_o be_v hearty_o devote_v to_o god_n upon_o his_o invitation_n and_o thus_o all_o thing_n be_v pure_a to_o the_o pure_a for_o it_o be_v god_n interest_n in_o your_o work_n that_o be_v the_o holiness_n and_o excellency_n of_o they_o be_v servant_n and_o labour_a people_n more_o holy_a and_o self-denying_a they_o may_v have_v more_o true_a comfort_n in_o their_o daily_a labour_n than_o the_o best_a of_o the_o unsanctified_a can_v have_v from_o their_o prayer_n or_o other_o worship_n of_o god_n not_o that_o worship_n may_v be_v therefore_o neglect_v but_o that_o a_o christian_n must_v do_v nothing_o at_o all_o but_o for_o god_n and_o then_o he_o may_v be_v sure_a of_o god_n acceptance_n chap._n lxx_o deny_v self_n or_o
