for_o ever_o and_o ever_o amen_n â§_o a_o homily_n of_o alm_n deed_n and_o mercifulness_n toward_o the_o poor_a and_o needy_a among_o the_o manifold_a duty_n that_o almighti_n god_n require_v of_o his_o faithful_a servant_n the_o true_a christian_n by_o the_o which_o he_o will_v that_o both_o his_o name_n shall_v be_v glorify_v &_o the_o certainty_n of_o their_o vocation_n declare_v there_o be_v none_o that_o be_v either_o more_o acceptable_a unto_o he_o or_o more_o profitable_a for_o they_o then_o be_v the_o work_n of_o mercy_n &_o pity_n show_v upon_o the_o poor_a which_o be_v afflict_v with_o any_o kind_n of_o misery_n and_o yet_o this_o not_o with_o stand_v such_o be_v the_o slothful_a sluggishness_n of_o our_o dull_a nature_n to_o that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o godly_a that_o we_o be_v almost_o in_o nothing_o more_o negligent_a and_o less_o careful_a than_o we_o be_v therein_o it_o be_v therefore_o a_o very_a necessary_a thing_n that_o god_n people_n shall_v awake_v their_o sleepy_a mind_n and_o consider_v their_o duty_n on_o this_o behalf_n and_o meet_v it_o be_v that_o all_o true_a christian_n shall_v desirous_o seek_v and_o learn_v what_o god_n by_o his_o holy_a word_n do_v herein_o require_v of_o they_o that_o first_o know_v their_o duty_n whereof_o many_o by_o their_o slackness_n seem_v to_o be_v very_o ignorant_a they_o may_v afterwards_o diligent_o alm_n give_v to_o the_o poor_a and_o also_o such_o as_o hitherto_o have_v either_o neglect_v or_o contemn_v it_o may_v yet_o now_o at_o the_o length_n when_o they_o shall_v hear_v how_o much_o it_o appertain_v to_o they_o advise_o consider_v it_o and_o virtuous_o apply_v themselves_o thereunto_o and_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o every_o one_o of_o you_o may_v the_o better_o understand_v that_o which_o be_v teach_v and_o also_o easyly_o bear_v away_o and_o so_o take_v more_o fruit_n of_o that_o shall_v be_v say_v when_o several_a matter_n be_v several_o handle_v i_o mind_v particular_o and_o in_o this_o order_n to_o speak_v and_o entreat_v of_o these_o point_n first_o i_o will_v show_v how_o earnest_o almighty_a god_n in_o his_o holy_a word_n do_v exact_v the_o do_v of_o alm_n deed_n of_o we_o and_o how_o acceptable_a they_o be_v unto_o he_o second_o how_o profitable_a it_o be_v for_o we_o to_o use_v they_o and_o what_o commodity_n and_o fruit_n they_o will_v bring_v unto_o us._n three_o and_o last_o i_o will_v show_v out_o of_o god_n word_n that_o who_o so_o be_v liberal_a to_o the_o poor_a &_o relieve_v they_o plenteous_o shall_v notwithstanding_o have_v sufficient_a for_o himself_o &_o evermore_o be_v without_o danger_n of_o penury_n and_o scarcity_n concern_v the_o first_o which_o be_v the_o acceptation_n and_o dignity_n or_o price_n of_o alm_n deed_n before_o god_n know_v this_o that_o to_o help_v and_o succour_v the_o poor_a in_o their_o need_n and_o misery_n please_v god_n so_o much_o that_o as_o the_o holy_a scripture_n in_o sundry_a place_n record_v nothing_o can_v be_v more_o thankful_o take_v or_o accept_v of_o god_n for_o first_o we_o read_v that_o almighty_a god_n do_v account_v that_o to_o be_v give_v and_o to_o be_v bestow_v upon_o himself_o that_o be_v bestow_v upon_o the_o poor_a for_o so_o do_v the_o holy_a ghost_n testify_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v he_o that_o have_v pity_n upon_o the_o poor_a dare_v unto_o affliction_n and_o distress_n do_v thereby_o receive_v and_o honour_n christ_n their_o master_n who_o as_o he_o be_v poor_a and_o needy_a himself_o while_o he_o live_v here_o amongst_o we_o to_o work_v the_o mystery_n of_o our_o salvation_n so_o at_o his_o departure_n hence_o he_o promise_v in_o his_o steed_n to_o send_v unto_o we_o those_o that_o be_v poor_a by_o who_o mean_n his_o absence_n our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n do_v and_o command_v to_o be_v do_v as_o his_o holy_a apostle_n use_v it_o and_o the_o good_a father_n in_o the_o primative_a church_n frequent_v it_o for_o as_o that_o worthy_a man_n saint_n ambrose_n say_v he_o be_v unworthy_a of_o the_o lord_n that_o otherwise_o do_v celebrate_v that_o mystery_n than_o it_o be_v deliver_v by_o he_o neither_o can_v he_o be_v devout_a that_o other_o way_n do_v presume_v they_o it_o be_v give_v by_o the_o author_n we_o must_v then_o take_v heed_n jest_n of_o the_o memory_n it_o be_v make_v a_o sacrifice_n least_o of_o a_o that_o by_o his_o negligence_n he_o deserve_v the_o plague_n of_o god_n to_o fall_v upon_o he_o and_o by_o contempt_n he_o deserve_v everlasting_a perdition_n to_o avoid_v then_o these_o harm_n use_v
