four_o principal_a different_a opinion_n beside_o the_o opinion_n of_o osiander_n which_o be_v odious_a to_o all_o we_o need_v not_o to_o speak_v of_o the_o first_o be_v of_o those_o who_o divide_v the_o work_n of_o justification_n betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n christ_n merit_n and_o man_n merit_n faith_n and_o work_v grace_n &_o debt_n the_o law_n &_o the_o gospel_n but_o in_o divers_a respect_n and_o consideration_n for_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o which_o they_o call_v the_o first_o righteousness_n which_o they_o esteem_v nothing_o but_o a_o preparation_n of_o a_o man_n to_o justify_v second_o righteousness_n wherein_o they_o place_v the_o merit_n of_o eternal_a life_n they_o seclude_v god_n from_o be_v the_o justifier_n and_o ascribe_v justification_n to_o man_n himself_o they_o seclude_v grace_n and_o establish_v work_n of_o free_a will_n they_o seclude_v christ_n and_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o obedience_n and_o place_n themselves_o and_o the_o merit_n of_o their_o own_o work_n they_o seclude_v believe_v and_o establish_v work_v and_o for_o the_o gospel_n place_v the_o law_n the_o second_o opinion_n be_v of_o those_o who_o in_o justification_n make_v god_n to_o be_v the_o justifier_n and_o that_o of_o his_o grace_n and_o that_o by_o faith_n but_o as_o our_o work_n of_o our_o free_a will_n yet_o not_o of_o the_o law_n but_o of_o the_o gospel_n seclude_v christ_n and_o his_o obedience_n whole_o from_o our_o righteousness_n as_o likewise_o the_o law_n and_o the_o work_v thereof_o so_o they_o give_v to_o god_n the_o work_n of_o justify_v but_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o righteousness_n they_o whole_o ascribe_v to_o their_o own_o work_n and_o act_n in_o believe_v and_o place_n grace_n in_o nothing_o but_o in_o god_n gracious_a accept_n of_o man_n imperfect_a faith_n in_o place_n of_o the_o perfect_a righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n and_o attribute_n unto_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n obedience_n this_o gracious_a acceptation_n of_o our_o faith_n as_o though_o he_o have_v die_v and_o suffer_v not_o for_o our_o justification_n but_o to_o merit_v and_o obtain_v at_o god_n hand_n that_o our_o own_o work_n of_o believe_a shall_v be_v gracious_o accept_v as_o perfect_a righteousness_n albeit_o in_o itself_o imperfect_a and_o where_o they_o may_v seem_v to_o agree_v with_o the_o papist_n in_o asscribe_v righteousness_n to_o their_o own_o work_n they_o think_v that_o they_o do_v sufficient_o purge_v themselves_o from_o that_o blot_n by_o this_o subtle_a evasion_n that_o they_o do_v not_o attribute_v their_o righteousness_n to_o whereof_o they_o give_v place_n unto_o grace_n in_o the_o other_o not_o the_o first_o action_n be_v the_o imputation_n of_o our_o imperfect_a faith_n for_o righteousness_n and_o that_o by_o grace_n righteousness_n in_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n seclude_v all_o work_n of_o man_n either_o of_o the_o law_n or_o of_o the_o gospel_n and_o acknowledge_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n to_o be_v the_o controversy_n touch_v this_o matter_n for_o touch_v the_o final_a cause_n there_o be_v no_o great_a disagreement_n therefore_o we_o have_v no_o need_n to_o speak_v much_o of_o it_o yet_o notwithstanding_o because_o it_o serve_v to_o clear_v that_o which_o we_o have_v so_o much_o insist_v in_o before_o touch_v the_o order_n of_o adoption_n and_o justification_n we_o will_v speak_v be_v the_o manner_n and_o form_n of_o the_o scripture_n phrase_n touch_v the_o justification_n of_o a_o man_n the_o second_o be_v the_o testimony_n of_o the_o scripture_n declare_v who_o it_o be_v that_o
see_v they_o be_v neither_o in_o the_o state_n of_o the_o just_a nor_o of_o the_o wicked_a man_n do_v not_o see_v what_o a_o foundation_n this_o opinion_n lay_v for_o establishinge_v the_o papist_n limbus_n patrum_fw-la and_o vain_o invent_v purgatory_n furthermore_o this_o opinion_n seem_v to_o imply_v a_o contradiction_n in_o itself_o for_o first_o it_o affirm_v that_o the_o actual_a obedience_n of_o christ_n be_v impute_v unto_o we_o as_o righteousness_n and_o yet_o they_o hold_v that_o it_o do_v not_o justify_v we_o from_o punishment_n second_o they_o confess_v that_o it_o make_v we_o innocent_a and_o yet_o deny_v that_o it_o make_v we_o just_a which_o be_v thing_n impossible_a for_o whatsoever_o be_v impute_v as_o righteousness_n must_v justify_v we_o and_o whatsoever_o make_v we_o innocent_a must_v necessary_o make_v we_o just_a for_o nothing_o but_o righteousness_n can_v make_v a_o man_n innocent_a before_o god_n therefore_o see_v that_o sentence_n of_o john_n asscribe_v the_o purge_n of_o all_o sin_n to_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v it_o original_n or_o arctuall_a it_o be_v the_o safe_a way_n for_o we_o be_v warrant_v by_o the_o h._n price_n the_o one_o seem_v to_o make_v our_o redemption_n free_a without_o price_n the_o other_o seem_v to_o say_v the_o contrary_n yet_o both_o be_v true_a for_o in_o respect_n of_o man_n himself_o he_o have_v pay_v no_o price_n at_o all_o to_o god_n for_o his_o redemption_n but_o as_o concern_v christ_n he_o have_v give_v a_o dear_a price_n even_o his_o life_n &_o blood_n for_o our_o or_o they_o they_o be_v gift_n supernatural_a belong_v to_o a_o supernatural_a life_n the_o first_o sort_n the_o lord_n give_v by_o natural_a mean_n as_o by_o procreation_n by_o natural_a generation_n and_o by_o his_o general_a providence_n extend_v over_o all_o but_o the_o second_o he_o give_v not_o but_o by_o special_a grace_n and_o by_o a_o special_a providence_n and_o particular_a love_n in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n there_o be_v no_o ground_n nor_o cause_n in_o they_o to_o who_o he_o give_v they_o why_o they_o shall_v have_v they_o nor_o any_o mean_n in_o their_o power_n to_o procure_v they_o thus_o faith_n and_o christ_n by_o faith_n be_v give_v we_o of_o god_n not_o for_o any_o worthiness_n in_o we_o nor_o for_o any_o thing_n give_v to_o god_n by_o we_o but_o the_o lord_n give_v we_o both_o faith_n and_o christ_n unto_o justification_n free_o of_o his_o mere_a grace_n second_o touch_v imputation_n there_o be_v a_o imputation_n by_o debt_n and_o a_o imputation_n by_o grace_n will_v have_v a_o man_n formalie_n just_a before_o he_o be_v justify_v touch_v that_o which_o he_o be_v by_o grace_n it_o be_v in_o many_o part_n of_o the_o scripture_n evident_o declare_v that_o he_o must_v believe_v before_o he_o be_v justify_v that_o be_v must_v have_v faith_n wrought_v in_o his_o heart_n in_o that_o sort_n that_o he_o may_v be_v justify_v for_o like_a as_o act_n 14._o it_o be_v
