vain_a question_n and_o curious_a disputation_n to_o think_v to_o determine_v of_o the_o matter_n according_a to_o truth_n and_o to_o the_o contentation_n of_o every_o one_o for_o as_o we_o have_v before_o touch_v we_o can_v know_v nothing_o either_o of_o the_o generation_n or_o original_n or_o of_o the_o substance_n and_o nature_n of_o our_o soul_n or_o of_o the_o immortality_n thereof_o but_o only_o by_o those_o testimony_n which_o by_o the_o effect_n it_o aftoord_v unto_o we_o and_o which_o god_n set_v down_o in_o his_o word_n wherefore_o according_a to_o that_o which_o have_v be_v already_o handle_v we_o must_v distinguish_v those_o thing_n unto_o which_o our_o mind_n may_v in_o some_o sort_n reach_n and_o of_o which_o we_o may_v have_v some_o knowledge_n from_o they_o that_o therefore_o we_o see_v by_o experience_n that_o so_o long_o as_o the_o child_n be_v nourish_v in_o his_o mother_n womb_n there_o be_v no_o milk_n in_o the_o breast_n but_o after_o it_o be_v bear_v the_o blood_n that_o run_v even_o unto_o the_o womb_n ascend_v upward_o by_o vein_n make_v a_o good_a long_a journey_n before_o it_o come_v to_o the_o breast_n white_v for_o these_o vein_n reach_v up_o hard_a to_o the_o throat_n on_o every_o side_n insomuch_o that_o the_o blood_n which_o they_o carry_v to_o the_o pap_n ascend_v above_o the_o breast_n and_o then_o descend_v into_o they_o to_o this_o end_n that_o through_o the_o length_n of_o time_n wherein_o it_o abide_v in_o the_o vein_n it_o may_v have_v more_o leisure_n to_o be_v the_o better_o wrought_v and_o to_o be_v turn_v into_o milk_n and_o into_o that_o white_a colour_n which_o it_o receive_v and_o the_o milk_n be_v make_v the_o white_a not_o only_o through_o the_o abode_n which_o it_o make_v in_o the_o breast_n but_o also_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o that_o kernelly_n flesh_n whereof_o they_o be_v compound_v for_o it_o be_v of_o a_o whitish_a colour_n that_o it_o may_v give_v the_o same_o colour_n to_o the_o milk_n whereof_o the_o pap_n be_v the_o vessel_n so_o that_o here_o we_o may_v the_o better_a know_v as_o we_o touch_v before_o why_o god_n by_o his_o providence_n make_v the_o breast_n of_o that_o matter_n and_o colour_n whereof_o they_o consist_v now_o we_o have_v further_a to_o note_v another_o point_n wherein_o god_n have_v very_o well_o provide_v for_o the_o comfort_n of_o woman_n as_o it_o be_v a_o the_o child_n make_v whether_o she_o bear_v it_o in_o her_o belly_n or_o give_v it_o suck_v with_o her_o breast_n wherein_o we_o see_v a_o marvellous_a work_n of_o god_n for_o it_o be_v all_o one_o as_o if_o he_o turn_v poison_n or_o venom_n into_o good_a meat_n and_o nourishment_n yea_o into_o most_o dainty_a food_n for_o the_o use_n of_o such_o a_o delicate_a mouth_n and_o tender_a nature_n as_o a_o infant_n have_v that_o be_v new_o bear_v further_o also_o we_o will_v note_v here_o that_o so_o long_o as_o the_o infant_n be_v in_o his_o mother_n belly_n it_o be_v nourish_v more_o like_a to_o a_o plant_n then_o to_o those_o live_a creature_n which_o receive_v their_o food_n by_o their_o throat_n and_o yet_o after_o he_o be_v bear_v he_o know_v well_o wherefore_o his_o mouth_n serve_v before_o ever_o he_o use_v it_o without_o any_o other_o master_n or_o mistress_n to_o teach_v he_o this_o skill_n they_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n which_o show_v itself_o also_o in_o other_o lead_v digestion_n be_v make_v in_o the_o body_n likewise_o it_o be_v very_o profitable_a for_o those_o part_n that_o be_v in_o great_a and_o most_o usual_a motion_n to_o supple_a and_o anoint_v testimony_n of_o the_o goodness_n and_o bountifulness_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o and_o of_o his_o care_n as_o we_o have_v by_o the_o sense_n of_o taste_n which_o he_o have_v give_v unto_o us._n wherein_o also_o he_o admonish_v we_o in_o such_o sort_n of_o our_o mortal_a nature_n through_o the_o necessity_n we_o have_v of_o food_n for_o the_o preservation_n of_o our_o life_n god_n as_o that_o withal_o he_o supply_v this_o want_n and_o necessity_n that_o we_o may_v the_o better_o know_v and_o taste_v the_o sweetness_n of_o his_o love_n towards_o us._n for_o whereto_o will_v those_o to_o be_v govern_v as_o for_o grief_n &_o fear_n although_o they_o also_o be_v not_o far_o remoove_v from_o such_o false_a and_o vade_v good_n of_o the_o body_n yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n they_o respect_v those_o adversity_n and_o misery_n which_o in_o our_o opinion_n we_o judge_v to_o be_v in_o the_o want_n and_o privation_n of_o those_o good_n for_o they_o fill_v the_o soul_n with_o trouble_n and_o disquietness_n as_o she_o that_o think_v her_o estate_n to_o be_v most_o miserable_a if_o she_o obtain_v not_o the_o end_n of_o her_o carnal_a and_o inordinate_a affection_n so_o that_o if_o the_o body_n endure_v never_o so_o little_a she_o cast_v forth_o strange_a cry_n and_o complaint_n and_o although_o the_o body_n suffer_v nothing_o at_o all_o yet_o be_v she_o always_o in_o extreme_a fear_n lest_o some_o evil_n shall_v befall_v it_o but_o these_o very_a passion_n may_v be_v divide_v into_o good_a and_o bad_a good_a for_o honest_a desire_n modestioy_v and_o moderate_a grief_n and_o fear_n be_v natural_o in_o we_o for_o the_o preservation_n of_o our_o be_v yea_o all_o these_o affection_n be_v endue_v with_o the_o quality_n of_o commendable_a virtue_n if_o do_v wonderful_o provoke_v a_o man_n &_o when_o he_o be_v touch_v therewith_o he_o wax_v very_o savage_a and_o wild_a now_o the_o first_o sting_n and_o bite_v of_o evil_n be_v offence_n by_o reason_n that_o the_o heart_n be_v offend_v even_o as_o when_o one_o rush_v against_o a_o thing_n &_o hurt_v himself_o offence_n therefore_o by_o offence_n we_o understand_v proper_o a_o certain_a grief_n of_o the_o soul_n &_o of_o the_o heart_n which_o come_v through_o some_o touch_n of_o evil_n that_o agree_v not_o to_o our_o nature_n this_o first_o sense_n of_o grief_n be_v like_a to_o the_o first_o prick_v of_o one_o body_n and_o be_v contrary_n to_o the_o first_o pleasure_n which_o we_o receive_v of_o some_o good_a that_o be_v offer_v unto_o we_o and_o be_v agreeable_a to_o our_o nature_n so_o that_o as_o this_o pleasure_n when_o it_o be_v confirm_v be_v turn_v into_o love_n so_o out_o of_o this_o first_o feeling_n of_o grief_n which_o i_o call_v offence_n the_o other_o affection_n that_o be_v join_v with_o grief_n do_v bud_v forth_o afterward_o namely_o anger_n hatred_n envy_n indignation_n revenge_n cruelty_n and_o such_o like_a the_o evil_a that_o may_v offend_v we_o us._n be_v whatsoever_o we_o judge_v to_o be_v contrary_a to_o we_o and_o to_o our_o nature_n as_o well_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o body_n as_o of_o the_o soul_n for_o as_o the_o body_n be_v offend_v by_o those_o evil_n which_o trouble_v the_o harmony_n and_o temperature_n thereof_o and_o which_o bring_v grief_n and_o hurt_n unto_o it_o so_o be_v it_o with_o the_o soul_n and_o with_o all_o the_o power_n hurt_v whereupon_o this_o appetite_n of_o revenge_n be_v engender_v revenge_n which_o be_v common_a to_o anger_v with_o offence_n hatred_n and_o envy_n so_o that_o anger_n be_v always_o mingle_v with_o sorrow_n and_o with_o desire_n of_o revenge_n and_o indeed_o revenge_n be_v a_o motion_n of_o the_o heart_n whereby_o it_o do_v not_o only_o turn_v aside_o and_o withdraw_v itself_o from_o that_o which_o offend_v but_o labour_v withal_o either_o to_o repel_v it_o or_o to_o overcome_v and_o vanquish_v it_o and_o to_o punish_v he_o that_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o wherefore_o we_o may_v note_v herein_o two_o motion_n as_o there_o be_v two_o respect_n namely_o the_o one_o to_o eschew_v the_o evil_a that_o offend_v and_o the_o other_o to_o pursue_v with_o great_a violence_n he_o that_o be_v the_o author_n thereof_o hereof_o it_o be_v that_o some_o when_o they_o be_v angry_a become_v pale_a because_o the_o blood_n retire_v unto_o the_o heart_n red_a and_o these_o be_v most_o fear_v in_o respect_n of_o those_o cause_n which_o be_v show_v before_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o fear_n but_o howsoever_o the_o difference_n be_v yet_o in_o anger_n the_o blood_n do_v not_o whole_o go_v back_o unto_o the_o heart_n as_o it_o do_v in_o fear_n and_o sorrow_n but_o disperse_v itself_o outward_o for_o the_o heart_n be_v as_o if_o he_o strive_v to_o go_v out_o of_o his_o host_n or_o camp_n not_o unlike_a to_o a_o prince_n or_o captain_n that_o be_v desirous_a to_o march_v forward_o in_o battle_n array_n whereupon_o he_o send_v forth_o the_o blood_n and_o the_o spirit_n as_o his_o man_n of_o war_n to_o repel_v the_o enemy_n which_o be_v not_o do_v without_o great_a move_n and_o tumult_n and_o much_o stir_n in_o the_o heart_n which_o set_v it_o on_o fire_n and_o inflame_v the_o blood_n and_o spirit_n whereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o by_o reason_n of_o this_o motion_n of_o the_o blood_n and_o of_o the_o confusion_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o ensue_v thereof_o the_o action_n and_o motion_n of_o all_o the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n be_v trouble_v but_o the_o brain_n be_v chief_o offend_v brain_n because_o that_o also_o be_v heat_v by_o the_o inflame_a blood_n and_o by_o those_o burn_a spirit_n which_o mount_v up_o thither_o by_o who_o motion_n it_o be_v stir_v up_o and_o disturb_v as_o also_o by_o the_o sinew_n which_o come_v even_o to_o the_o heart_n for_o how_o hot_a soever_o the_o heart_n and_o breast_n be_v or_o may_v be_v yet_o man_n abide_v always_o still_o and_o quiet_a if_o the_o heat_n pierce_v not_o up_o to_o the_o brain_n for_o it_o fall_v out_o herein_o as_o it_o do_v with_o a_o drunken_a body_n who_o be_v not_o say_v to_o be_v drink_v because_o he_o have_v take_v in_o store_n of_o wine_n except_o it_o ascend_v up_o into_o his_o head_n and_o trouble_v his_o brain_n and_o sense_n hereof_o it_o be_v that_o vehement_a anger_n be_v often_o accompany_v with_o frensinesse_n and_o with_o the_o fall_a sickness_n and_o because_o the_o heart_n be_v inflame_v the_o blood_n and_o spirit_n also_o be_v set_v on_o fire_n they_o cause_v the_o whole_a body_n to_o tremble_v yea_o the_o very_a bone_n themselves_o for_o the_o blood_n that_o boil_v in_o the_o breast_n puff_v up_o and_o thrust_v forward_o the_o midriff_n whereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o the_o motion_n of_o angry_a man_n be_v very_o troublesome_a like_a unto_o those_o of_o drunkard_n now_o because_o there_o be_v many_o mean_n to_o stir_v man_n up_o to_o anger_n and_o wrath_n and_o see_v it_o be_v so_o dangerous_a a_o passion_n it_o be_v very_o needful_a for_o we_o to_o have_v many_o good_a remedy_n against_o it_o as_o indeed_o there_o be_v many_o to_o be_v find_v although_o we_o shall_v not_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o so_o many_o anger_n if_o we_o will_v only_o consider_v who_o we_o be_v and_o compare_v ourselves_o with_o god_n and_o mark_v narow_o how_o many_o way_n we_o offend_v he_o daily_o what_o cause_v we_o give_v he_o to_o be_v bitter_o incite_v and_o kindele_v with_o wrath_n against_o we_o and_o how_o he_o bear_v with_o we_o turn_v his_o anger_n into_o pity_n and_o compassion_n towards_o us._n for_o if_o we_o enter_v into_o this_o consideration_n first_o we_o shall_v be_v great_o ashamed_a that_o we_o be_v angry_a second_o our_o anger_n will_v be_v easy_o appease_v for_o who_o can_v despise_v we_o as_o we_o deserve_v and_o move_v we_o to_o anger_n see_v we_o despise_v god_n unto_o who_o we_o owe_v all_o honour_n and_o reverence_n and_o who_o we_o ought_v to_o set_v at_o so_o high_a a_o price_n above_o all_o other_o thing_n that_o we_o shall_v esteem_v all_o the_o world_n as_o nothing_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o value_n and_o yet_o we_o show_v plain_o how_o far_o we_o be_v off_o from_o this_o see_v we_o stand_v in_o so_o little_a awe_n to_o offend_v he_o yea_o be_v more_o afraid_a to_o displease_v man_n then_o he_o beside_o we_o commit_v no_o offence_n against_o he_o in_o which_o there_o be_v not_o great_a contempt_n of_o his_o majesty_n even_o high_a treason_n against_o his_o divine_a majesty_n whereas_o if_o we_o fear_v love_a and_o honour_v he_o as_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v we_o shall_v rather_o fear_v to_o offend_v he_o then_o to_o die_v but_o there_o be_v nothing_o which_o we_o care_v for_o less_o wherefore_o questionless_a before_o he_o who_o be_v a_o terrible_a avenger_n of_o his_o contempt_n we_o be_v all_o lose_v if_o he_o spiritual_a food_n wherewith_o the_o soul_n be_v nourish_v yet_o be_v it_o requisite_a and_o needful_a that_o the_o soul_n be_v purge_v from_o those_o excrement_n and_o filthiness_n of_o sin_n wherewith_o the_o devil_n have_v infect_v &_o fill_v it_o and_o so_o indeed_o be_v it_o purge_v in_o jesus_n christ_n who_o have_v wash_v &_o cleanse_v we_o from_o our_o sin_n by_o his_o blood_n &_o do_v daily_o purge_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n and_o by_o those_o mean_n which_o he_o have_v ordain_v in_o his_o church_n therefore_o i_o be_o out_o of_o doubt_n that_o god_n mean_v to_o put_v temper_v that_o there_o be_v no_o excess_n on_o either_o side_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n god_n will_v have_v all_o the_o humour_n to_o be_v mingle_v together_o with_o the_o blood_n necessary_a the_o choleric_a humour_n in_o the_o purify_n of_o the_o blood_n the_o other_o downward_o towards_o the_o gut_n to_o carry_v this_o humour_n unto_o they_o both_o for_o the_o thrust_v forward_o of_o nourishment_n and_o for_o the_o cast_v forth_o of_o the_o excrement_n for_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o great_a abundance_n of_o this_o humour_n shall_v retire_v into_o some_o place_n in_o the_o purge_n of_o the_o blood_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v as_o requisite_a that_o it_o shall_v have_v a_o fit_n vessel_n to_o retire_v into_o wherein_o it_o be_v not_o to_o remain_v unprofitable_a form_v thereof_o in_o the_o womb_n now_o all_o this_o while_o it_o be_v nourish_v by_o blood_n which_o be_v draw_v unto_o it_o by_o the_o vein_n of_o the_o navel_n ordain_v to_o that_o end_n and_o therefore_o also_o the_o issue_n of_o this_o blood_n common_o cease_v in_o woman_n with_o child_n as_o that_o which_o be_v then_o divide_v into_o three_o part_n for_o the_o child_n draw_v the_o pure_a monstrous_a a_o thing_n be_v it_o to_o unclothe_v a_o man_n heart_n of_o love_n and_o to_o put_v upon_o it_o hatred_n envy_n extreme_a backebiting_n bitterness_n and_o cruelty_n which_o proceed_v
