good_a unto_o be_v not_o to_o expect_v that_o so_o much_o will_v be_v intimate_a unto_o they_o at_o first_o but_o they_o must_v be_v content_a to_o be_v exercise_v with_o attendance_n and_o speak_v in_o their_o pilgrimage_n from_o think_v too_o much_o long_o 7._o christ_n be_v a_o wise_a dispenser_n of_o his_o allowance_n who_o ofttimes_o reserve_v great_a manifestation_n of_o himself_o for_o sad_a time_n wherein_o as_o they_o be_v least_o expect_v so_o they_o be_v most_o need_v therefore_o be_v this_o more_o ample_a manifestation_n reserve_v for_o that_o sad_a time_n wherein_o the_o disciple_n be_v sadden_v with_o his_o departure_n and_o may_v be_v ready_a to_o think_v that_o all_o that_o power_n whereby_o he_o wrought_v be_v quite_o remove_v with_o his_o own_o bodily_a presence_n 8._o christ_n exaltation_n have_v neither_o diminish_v his_o power_n nor_o his_o tender_a care_n of_o his_o own_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a he_o do_v make_v his_o exaltation_n his_o unity_n as_o god_n and_o acceptance_n as_o mediator_n with_o the_o father_n conspicuous_a in_o the_o world_n by_o his_o liberality_n and_o bounty_n towards_o they_o for_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n door_n to_o vent_v all_o our_o desire_n to_o god_n be_v what_o they_o will_v in_o hope_n of_o audience_n for_o we_o must_v ask_v according_a to_o his_o will_n but_o the_o meaning_n be_v that_o what_o they_o be_v seek_v in_o faith_n be_v they_o never_o so_o difficult_a never_o so_o many_o for_o number_n and_o never_o so_o frequent_o need_v and_o it_o be_v comprise_v in_o this_o general_n that_o it_o may_v take_v in_o not_o only_o that_o particular_a of_o power_n to_o do_v these_o great_a work_n but_o all_o other_o thing_n also_o which_o believer_n may_v need_v 2._o this_o promise_n contain_v not_o only_o a_o proof_n of_o his_o mediatorship_n and_o his_o success_n therein_o in_o obtain_v what_o be_v seek_v in_o his_o name_n and_o a_o proof_n of_o his_o love_n to_o they_o in_o his_o absence_n by_o give_v they_o occasion_n to_o believe_v their_o own_o eye_n in_o his_o answer_n but_o a_o proof_n of_o his_o godhead_n also_o partly_o in_o that_o none_o can_v be_v mediator_n betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n but_o he_o who_o be_v
obedience_n must_v flow_v not_o only_o from_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n but_o from_o love_n and_o sense_n of_o our_o obligation_n to_o christ_n also_o and_o disciple_n will_v look_v on_o commandment_n encouragement_n be_v to_o be_v extend_v to_o all_o believer_n who_o find_v the_o spirit_n a_o comforter_n and_o spirit_n of_o truth_n to_o they_o though_o not_o in_o so_o extraordinary_a a_o manner_n a_o comforter_n also_o as_o he_o be_v and_o he_o be_v give_v by_o the_o father_n and_o so_o distinct_a from_o he_o and_o his_o give_v or_o send_v he_o be_v no_o note_n of_o superiority_n nor_o be_v send_v of_o inferiority_n for_o equal_n may_v send_v one_o another_o but_o it_o only_a point_n at_o the_o order_n of_o the_o person_n in_o their_o substance_n and_o operation_n and_o so_o as_o the_o holy_a spirit_n proceed_v from_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n so_o he_o be_v give_v by_o both_o in_o their_o order_n of_o subsistence_n to_o believer_n 8._o in_o expect_v this_o great_a promise_n of_o the_o comforter_n believer_n ought_v not_o to_o look_v to_o their_o own_o merit_n or_o the_o worth_n of_o their_o obedience_n which_o can_v promise_v no_o such_o thing_n but_o their_o eye_n must_v be_v fix_v on_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n who_o do_v free_o gift_n his_o
deal_v with_o his_o people_n may_v cross_v their_o humour_n and_o cut_v off_o many_o superfluity_n which_o be_v dear_a to_o they_o yet_o he_o mind_v their_o real_a good_a and_o fruitfulness_n particular_o because_o by_o the_o general_a sentence_n already_o pronounce_v by_o he_o concern_v believer_n in_o he_o such_o as_o that_o john_n 3.36_o and_o more_o especial_o by_o that_o sentence_n pass_v in_o their_o favour_n apply_v that_o general_a to_o they_o ch_z 13.10_o they_o may_v be_v confirm_v and_o assure_v that_o they_o be_v already_o clean_a and_o justify_v hence_o learn_v 1._o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o all_o professor_n to_o make_v sure_o what_o interest_n they_o have_v in_o christ_n and_o for_o that_o end_n to_o find_v some_o difference_n betwixt_o they_o and_o formal_a and_o external_a professor_n therefore_o christ_n speak_v of_o divers_a sort_n of_o branch_n find_v it_o needful_a to_o assure_v they_o that_o they_o be_v not_o of_o the_o worst_a but_o best_a sort_n now_o you_o be_v clean_a to_o learn_v they_o and_o all_o other_o to_o make_v that_o sure_a 2._o albeit_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o professor_n who_o be_v doubtful_a of_o their_o state_n to_o study_v that_o believer_n shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v but_o have_v eternal_a life_n actual_o justify_v and_o absolve_v from_o sin_n in_o god_n sight_n albeit_o as_o yet_o they_o have_v not_o attain_v to_o in_o favour_n of_o believer_n in_o his_o doctrine_n to_o they_o be_v they_o and_o do_v absolve_v they_o albeit_o both_o before_o and_o now_o they_o need_v to_o have_v it_o tell_v to_o they_o by_o he_o the_o latter_a can_v be_v without_o the_o former_a this_o he_o declare_v 1._o negative_o that_o without_o he_o and_o communion_n with_o he_o they_o can_v no_o more_o be_v fruitful_a than_o a_o branch_n that_o abide_v not_o in_o the_o vine_n 2._o positive_o that_o abide_v in_o he_o they_o shall_v abound_v in_o fruit_n which_o again_o be_v confirm_v and_o amplify_v by_o their_o impotency_n their_o danger_n so_o that_o they_o have_v themselves_o to_o blame_v if_o they_o be_v not_o arm_v with_o resolution_n but_o still_o promise_v great_a thing_n to_o themselves_o and_o it_o do_v assure_v believer_n that_o he_o have_v a_o eternal_a purpose_n and_o effectual_a providence_n about_o these_o thing_n which_o he_o can_v foretell_v before_o they_o come_v to_o pass_v 2._o he_o guard_v this_o intimation_n with_o so_o many_o encouragement_n and_o antidote_n in_o the_o word_n as_o it_o can_v prove_v deadly_a to_o they_o that_o emprove_v the_o same_o 3._o the_o word_n right_o emproven_v do_v purge_v out_o idol_n and_o lust_n which_o tempt_v man_n to_o stumble_v do_v direct_v their_o way_n in_o dark_a case_n that_o they_o may_v not_o stumble_v and_o do_v afford_v such_o confirmation_n of_o faith_n as_o may_v support_v their_o heart_n under_o trouble_n and_o such_o intimation_n of_o the_o severity_n of_o god_n as_o may_v deter_v they_o from_o apostasy_n therefore_o say_v he_o these_o thing_n both_o of_o intimation_n and_o encouragement_n mention_v in_o the_o former_a chapter_n have_v i_o speak_v unto_o you_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o be_v offend_v not_o only_o be_v this_o the_o scope_n of_o his_o doctrine_n and_o intimation_n but_o these_o be_v a_o sufficient_a mean_n to_o prevent_v their_o stumble_n however_o they_o not_o emprove_n the_o same_o be_v offend_v for_o a_o
