whereas_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o holy_a man_n of_o old_a time_n he_o come_v even_o then_o forasmuch_o as_o by_o faith_n they_o feel_v he_o to_o be_v their_o true_a saviour_n and_o deliverer_n howbeit_o he_o be_v not_o yet_o come_v to_o our_o jew_n although_o he_o be_v go_v away_o again_o in_o body_n long_o since_o for_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v in_o he_o all_o from_o the_o begin_n of_o belief_n that_o he_o be_v count_v acceptable_a before_o god_n and_o his_o son_n yea_o he_o be_v a_o enemy_n of_o this_o faith_n and_o therefore_o of_o righteousness_n also_o wherefore_o neither_o can_v his_o work_n be_v count_v good_a although_o they_o pretend_v a_o fair_a show_n of_o fulfil_v the_o law_n and_o thus_o be_v it_o easy_a to_o understand_v that_o which_o paul_n say_v that_o no_o man_n be_v justify_v before_o god_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n for_o the_o worker_n must_v be_v justify_v before_o god_n before_o he_o work_v any_o good_a thing_n although_o before_o man_n which_o esteem_v a_o man_n by_o outward_a thing_n and_o not_o by_o the_o mind_n they_o be_v count_v righteous_a which_o apply_v themselves_o to_o the_o do_v of_o good_a work_n for_o man_n judge_v the_o worker_n by_o the_o work_n god_n judge_v the_o work_n by_o the_o worker_n now_o the_o first_o precept_n require_v that_o we_o acknowledge_v &_o worship_v one_o god_n that_o be_v that_o we_o trust_v and_o rest_n in_o he_o alone_o which_o in_o deed_n be_v the_o true_a faith_n whereby_o we_o become_v the_o son_n of_o god_n but_o how_o easy_a be_v it_o by_o this_o precept_n to_o know_v that_o sin_n be_v both_o in_o he_o of_o cain_n brood_n &_o in_o thyself_o inasmuch_o as_o both_o of_o you_o want_v such_o a_o faith_n even_o by_o your_o own_o nature_n which_o thou_o can_v not_o the_o devil_n sake_n and_o not_o for_o god_n sake_n and_o continue_v a_o persecutor_n both_o of_o faith_n and_o of_o the_o law_n until_o he_o come_v to_o himself_o and_o do_v plain_o cease_v to_o trust_v in_o himself_o and_o in_o his_o own_o work_n do_v give_v this_o glory_n unto_o god_n who_o justifi_v the_o ungodly_a acknowledge_v himself_o to_o be_v nothing_o and_o figh_v for_o god_n his_o grace_n whereof_o he_o do_v now_o know_v be_v teach_v by_o the_o law_n that_o he_o have_v need_n then_o faith_n and_o grace_n come_v and_o fill_v he_o be_v empty_a satisfy_v he_o be_v hungry_a by_o and_o by_o follow_v good_a work_n which_o be_v true_o good_a neither_o be_v they_o now_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n but_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o faith_n and_o grace_n and_o they_o be_v call_v in_o the_o scripture_n the_o work_n of_o god_n which_o he_o work_v in_o us._n for_o whatsoever_o we_o do_v of_o our_o own_o power_n &_o strength_n evil_a all_o that_o we_o do_v of_o ourselves_o be_v not_o assist_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n be_v evil_a and_o be_v not_o wrought_v in_o we_o by_o his_o grace_n without_o doubt_n it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o avail_v nothing_o to_o fulfil_v the_o law_n that_o he_o only_o of_o all_o mankind_n have_v of_o his_o own_o accord_n satisfy_v it_o be_v with_o no_o thing_n compel_v or_o enforce_v thereunto_o neither_o be_v any_o other_o able_a to_o do_v the_o same_o unless_o he_o receive_v it_o of_o he_o and_o by_o he_o and_o therefore_o paul_n say_v here_o he_o be_v make_v under_o the_o law_n that_o he_o may_v redeem_v they_o which_o be_v under_o the_o law_n the_o fifte_a thing_n therefore_o that_o paul_n here_o commend_v unto_o we_o to_o be_v believe_v law_n why_o christ_n be_v make_v under_o the_o law_n be_v that_o christ_n for_o our_o sake_n be_v make_v under_o the_o law_n that_o he_o may_v deliver_v we_o from_o the_o bondage_n of_o the_o law_n and_o of_o unwilling_a servant_n make_v we_o free_a son_n whereupon_o he_o say_v that_o he_o may_v redeem_v they_o which_o be_v under_o the_o law_n that_o be_v may_v deliver_v they_o from_o the_o law_n â–ª_o now_o he_o deliver_v from_o the_o law_n by_o the_o mean_v aforesaid_a not_o by_o destroy_v or_o utter_o abolish_n the_o law_n law_n how_o christ_n deliver_v from_o the_o law_n but_o by_o fulfil_v it_o and_o give_v a_o free_a spirit_n which_o shall_v do_v all_o thing_n willing_o without_o any_o respect_n either_o of_o the_o threaten_n or_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o law_n no_o otherwise_o then_o if_o there_o be_v no_o law_n at_o all_o give_v and_o be_v carry_v thereunto_o of_o his_o own_o nature_n after_o which_o sort_n adam_n and_o eve_n be_v effect_v before_o they_o have_v sin_v obtain_v how_o the_o spirit_n of_o liberty_n be_v obtain_v but_o by_o what_o mean_n be_v this_o spirit_n give_v &_o liberty_n get_v no_o otherwise_o then_o by_o faith_n for_o he_o that_o true_o believe_v that_o christ_n come_v for_o this_o cause_n that_o he_o may_v deliver_v we_o from_o the_o law_n and_o that_o he_o have_v deliver_v he_o already_o he_o i_o say_v have_v in_o deed_n receive_v the_o spirit_n of_o liberty_n and_o do_v very_o obtain_v that_o which_o he_o believe_v for_o both_o faith_n and_o this_o spirit_n of_o son_n come_v together_o whereupon_o paul_n say_v here_o that_o christ_n have_v deliver_v
thing_n sure_o i_o ought_v to_o glory_n of_o if_o i_o be_v a_o true_a christian_a but_o this_o seem_v difficult_a and_o hard_a god_n admit_v no_o sin_n my_o fearful_a and_o weak_a conscience_n be_v against_o i_o how_o be_o i_o his_o servant_n when_o as_o notwithstanding_o i_o feel_v in_o myself_o that_o i_o serve_v the_o devil_n and_o do_v not_o know_v that_o i_o be_o holy_a i_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o the_o common_a sort_n of_o christian_n such_o as_o i_o and_o such_o like_a be_v but_o of_o sincere_a christian_n which_o have_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o in_o who_o heart_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n abide_v who_o conscience_n albeit_o it_o be_v frail_a and_o weak_a and_o they_o feel_v their_o sin_n yet_o they_o be_v enforce_v to_o say_v howsoever_o sin_n be_v yet_o i_o know_v no_o sin_n by_o myself_o neither_o be_o i_o subject_a to_o death_n and_o hell_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n they_o strive_v and_o at_o the_o last_o overcome_v that_o therefore_o they_o will_v even_o die_v in_o that_o confidence_n but_o i_o find_v it_o far_o otherwise_o if_o i_o set_v my_o life_n before_o my_o sight_n here_o life_n and_o the_o word_n must_v be_v separate_v far_o asunder_o if_o thou_o will_v consider_v life_n i_o will_v set_v also_o before_o thou_o the_o life_n of_o s._n peter_n paul_n or_o john_n thou_o shall_v find_v even_o they_o not_o to_o have_v live_v without_o sin_n when_o thou_o desire_v to_o be_v holy_a before_o god_n god_n we_o must_v trust_v not_o to_o our_o life_n and_o work_n but_o to_o the_o mere_a mercy_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n trust_v not_o to_o thy_o life_n unless_o thou_o will_v perish_v for_o ever_o for_o thou_o must_v trust_v to_o only_a mercy_n and_o grace_n and_o not_o to_o life_n or_o work_n otherwise_o thy_o case_n will_v be_v very_o ill_a wherefore_o our_o hart_n must_v be_v so_o affect_v that_o it_o say_v lord_n if_o thou_o shall_v call_v i_o to_o a_o account_n i_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a either_o by_o life_n or_o work_n to_o stand_v in_o thy_o sight_n no_o although_o i_o be_v even_o john_n the_o baptist_n nevertheless_o therefore_o i_o glory_v that_o i_o be_o godly_a &_o thy_o servant_n for_o that_o thou_o do_v give_v unto_o i_o continual_o and_o also_o for_o that_o as_o thou_o have_v promise_v to_o abraham_n thou_o do_v for_o thy_o christ_n sake_n vouchsafe_v to_o show_v thy_o mercy_n unto_o i_o if_o so_o be_v god_n he_o be_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n if_o i_o be_v not_o without_o fear_n and_o carefulness_n yet_o he_o be_v void_a of_o all_o fear_n and_o carefulness_n that_o so_o i_o may_v as_o it_o be_v transfer_v myself_o from_o myself_o and_o pierce_v into_o he_o &_o glory_n that_o in_o christ_n &_o by_o christ_n i_o be_o good_a thus_o he_o will_v have_v we_o to_o glory_n that_o we_o be_v godly_a and_o holy_a but_o not_o by_o our_o own_o merit_n for_o we_o must_v glory_v of_o ourselves_o as_o of_o most_o desperate_a wretch_n and_o that_o this_o may_v be_v plain_a mark_v our_o life_n consider_v our_o good_a conversation_n and_o manner_n weigh_v how_o foolish_o man_n apply_v themselves_o to_o the_o gospel_n that_o i_o be_o almost_o in_o doubt_n whether_o i_o shall_v preach_v any_o more_o or_o no._n for_o as_o soon_o as_o these_o thing_n be_v teach_v in_o a_o sermon_n that_o salvation_n consist_v not_o in_o our_o work_n or_o life_n but_o in_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n every_o one_o be_v slow_a to_o do_v good_a no_o man_n will_v live_v a_o honest_a life_n and_o be_v any_o more_o obedient_a they_o false_o affirm_v every_o where_n that_o good_a work_n be_v inhibit_v nevertheless_o god_n require_v of_o we_o that_o we_o lead_v a_o honest_a life_n outward_o and_o he_o that_o do_v not_o so_o shall_v at_o length_n find_v his_o due_a punishment_n now_o if_o it_o happen_v that_o we_o live_v godly_o and_o honest_o outward_o satan_n by_o and_o by_o frame_v his_o wickedness_n neither_o do_v i_o know_v at_o this_o day_n how_o to_o order_v myself_o in_o this_o matter_n not_o because_o of_o my_o own_o person_n but_o because_o of_o life_n for_o if_o we_o preach_v of_o a_o honest_a and_o godly_a life_n the_o world_n by_o &_o by_o furious_o attempt_v without_o judgement_n life_n judgement_n they_z endeavour_n by_o their_o good_a work_n to_o attain_v to_o salvation_n we_o must_v neither_o presume_v of_o good_a work_n nor_o neglect_v to_o lead_v a_o godly_a life_n to_o build_v ladder_n to_o heaven_n which_o god_n neither_o can_v neither_o will_n by_o any_o mean_n suffer_v again_o a_o dishonest_a and_o ignominious_a life_n do_v not_o become_v christian_n neither_o do_v a_o delicate_a life_n become_v they_o what_o therefore_o must_v we_o then_o do_v they_z which_o have_v respect_n only_o to_o a_o honest_a and_o fair_a life_n it_o be_v better_o for_o they_o to_o be_v adulterer_n and_o adulteress_n and_o altogether_o to_o wallow_v in_o the_o mire_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o god_n will_v not_o have_v we_o to_o lead_v our_o life_n filthy_o and_o dishonest_o for_o neither_o can_v he_o suffer_v that_o adiudging_a thou_o even_o unto_o hell_n therefore_o if_o thou_o so_o do_v and_o if_o thou_o lead_v a_o honest_a life_n thou_o will_v stick_v in_o it_o and_o arrogate_v unto_o thyself_o which_o again_o he_o can_v not_o suffer_v thou_o must_v therefore_o so_o provide_v that_o thou_o remain_v in_o the_o middle_a path_n decline_v neither_o to_o the_o right_a hand_n nor_o to_o the_o left_a and_o that_o thou_o lead_v a_o quiet_a fair_a and_o amiable_a life_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o world_n which_o also_o may_v be_v acceptable_a before_o god_n and_o yet_o that_o thou_o do_v not_o therefore_o so_o great_o esteem_v it_o nor_o count_v so_o of_o it_o as_o though_o thou_o do_v merit_v any_o thing_n of_o god_n thereby_o thus_o a_o christian_a continue_v the_o holy_a servant_n of_o god_n without_o fear_n not_o by_o his_o good_a work_n and_o holy_a life_n but_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n work_n blasphemous_a to_o affirm_v ourselves_o holy_a by_o our_o work_n but_o he_o that_o affirm_v that_o he_o be_v holy_a by_o his_o work_n be_v blasphemous_a against_o god_n rob_v god_n of_o his_o honour_n and_o deni_v christ_n for_o who_o it_o be_v better_a that_o he_o be_v ten_o time_n a_o homicide_n or_o a_o adulterer_n then_o that_o he_o shall_v thereby_o affirm_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o christian_n yea_o godly_a and_o holy_a for_o he_o do_v plain_o dishonour_n christ_n and_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o to_o affirm_v that_o there_o be_v no_o christ_n for_o he_o be_v therefore_o call_v christ_n for_o that_o he_o be_v our_o grace_n mercy_n redemption_n and_o holiness_n if_o i_o shall_v not_o attribute_v to_o the_o divine_a mercy_n that_o god_n himself_o do_v save_v i_o what_o shall_v this_o be_v else_o but_o to_o say_v that_o he_o be_v neither_o holy_a nor_o bless_v wherefore_o if_o i_o be_v a_o christian_n i_o must_v confess_v that_o i_o be_o holy_a and_o a_o christian_a for_o this_o cause_n for_o that_o christ_n himself_o be_v of_o a_o preface_n &_o show_v what_o give_v christ_n cause_n to_o make_v this_o sermon_n where_o he_o say_v then_o resort_v unto_o he_o all_o the_o publican_n and_o sinner_n to_o hear_v he_o in_o which_o word_n he_o plain_o signify_v with_o what_o man_n christ_n keep_v company_n conversant_a with_o what_o kind_n of_o man_n christ_n be_v conversant_a namely_o with_o they_o which_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o all_o man_n live_v as_o it_o do_v not_o become_v they_o and_o be_v open_o call_v sinner_n and_o evell_a person_n whereby_o it_o appear_v that_o the_o pharisee_n seem_v to_o have_v certain_a sum_n of_o money_n as_o the_o turk_n or_o venetian_n do_v now_o commit_v to_o some_o one_o some_o city_n or_o office_n for_o which_o a_o certain_a sum_n of_o money_n be_v yearly_a to_o be_v pay_v and_o what_o soever_o they_o shall_v scrape_v together_o by_o unjust_a exaction_n above_o this_o sum_n that_o be_v their_o own_o so_o also_o the_o aforesaid_a publican_n do_v which_o so_o gather_v those_o tribute_n and_o money_n wherewith_o they_o be_v charge_v that_o they_o themselves_o also_o might_n have_v some_o gain_n thereby_o and_o see_v that_o a_o sum_n of_o money_n to_o be_v pay_v for_o some_o city_n or_o office_n be_v not_o small_a they_o desirous_a to_o gain_v thereby_o do_v by_o all_o mean_n deal_v unjust_o and_o use_v extortion_n in_o all_o thing_n in_o all_o place_n and_o with_o all_o person_n for_o the_o lord_n and_o master_n hold_v they_o so_o hardly_o and_o straight_o that_o they_o can_v not_o get_v much_o thereby_o if_o they_o will_v deal_v right_o and_o just_o and_o oppress_v no_o man_n with_o unjust_a exaction_n whereupon_o they_o have_v a_o very_a evell_a report_n abroad_o that_o they_o be_v most_o unjust_a exactor_n and_o endue_v with_o small_a honesty_n and_o integrity_n of_o life_n likewise_o the_o rest_n in_o general_n be_v call_v sinner_n which_o otherwise_o live_v dishonest_o and_o wretched_o &_o be_v defile_v with_o filthy_a offence_n as_o with_o covetousness_n with_o whoredom_n with_o surfeit_v and_o drunkenness_n and_o such_o like_a such_o resort_n here_o unto_o christ_n and_o come_v to_o hear_v he_o when_o as_o before_o they_o have_v know_v he_o by_o report_n to_o be_v excellent_a and_o famous_a both_o in_o word_n and_o deed_n howbeit_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o in_o they_o although_o they_o seem_v even_o desperate_a there_o be_v a_o spark_n of_o virtue_n and_o honesty_n in_o asmuch_o as_o they_o long_v after_o christ_n both_o cover_n to_o hear_v his_o doctrine_n and_o also_o earnest_o desire_v to_o see_v the_o work_n which_o he_o do_v when_o before_o they_o know_v he_o to_o be_v a_o good_a man_n and_o hear_v no_o ill_a report_n either_o of_o his_o doctrine_n or_o work_n so_o that_o their_o life_n do_v far_o differ_v from_o he_o nevertheless_o they_o be_v so_o well_o dispose_v that_o they_o be_v not_o his_o enemy_n neither_o refuse_v or_o fly_v his_o company_n but_o run_v unto_o he_o not_o of_o any_o evell_a purpose_n or_o intent_n but_o to_o see_v and_o hear_v some_o good_a thing_n whereby_o they_o may_v amend_v their_o life_n pharisees_n the_o malicious_a deal_n of_o the_o scribes_z &_o pharisees_n contrariwise_o the_o pharise_n and_o scribe_n which_o be_v count_v most_o righteous_a and_o holy_a be_v such_o poisonful_a beast_n that_o they_o be_v not_o only_o sore_o displease_v at_o christ_n who_o they_o can_v abide_v neither_o to_o see_v nor_o hear_v but_o also_o they_o can_v not_o be_v content_a that_o miserable_a sinner_n shall_v come_v unto_o he_o and_o hear_v he_o whereby_o they_o be_v lead_v by_o repentance_n may_v amend_v yea_o they_o do_v also_o beside_o this_o murmur_n and_o reprove_v christ_n for_o that_o he_o admit_v unto_o he_o and_o receive_v publican_n and_o sinner_n say_v behold_v be_v this_o that_o holy_a and_o famous_a man_n who_o will_v now_o say_v that_o he_o be_v of_o god_n when_o as_o he_o have_v society_n with_o so_o wicked_a wretch_n yea_o rather_o he_o be_v a_o drinker_n of_o wine_n and_o a_o glutton_n as_o they_o say_v elsewhere_o 7.34_o luke_n 7.34_o a_o friend_n to_o publican_n and_o sinner_n such_o a_o report_n he_o be_v constrain_v to_o bear_v of_o the_o holy_a pharise_n not_o for_o that_o he_o give_v himself_o to_o gluttony_n and_o surfeit_v accustom_a to_o feed_v excessive_o and_o follow_v riotous_a pleasure_n together_o with_o they_o but_o only_o because_o he_o admit_v such_o into_o his_o company_n and_o do_v not_o contemptuous_o reject_v they_o for_o in_o their_o opinion_n he_o shall_v have_v go_v with_o a_o sad_a and_o austere_a countenance_n in_o base_a apparel_n &_o have_v remain_v sever_v from_o the_o conversation_n and_o company_n of_o man_n and_o refuse_v their_o fellowship_n lest_o that_o by_o familiar_a custom_n with_o they_o he_o shall_v be_v defile_v and_o shall_v have_v do_v as_o they_o be_v accustom_v to_o do_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o holy_a man_n of_o who_o esaie_n write_v that_o they_o study_v for_o such_o purity_n that_o they_o do_v fear_n and_o suffer_v against_o their_o will_n even_o the_o touch_v of_o a_o sinner_n which_o in_o deed_n plain_o appear_v luke_o 7._o in_o the_o pharise_n murmur_v against_o christ_n because_o he_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v touch_v of_o the_o sinful_a woman_n and_o it_o be_v they_o that_o will_v always_o be_v his_o master_n &_o prescribe_v unto_o he_o rule_v whereby_o to_o live_v and_o behave_v himself_o in_o this_o life_n therefore_o in_o this_o place_n they_o murmur_v for_o that_o he_o do_v not_o apply_v himself_o unto_o they_o neither_o do_v disdain_n the_o company_n &_o conversation_n of_o such_o sinner_n according_a to_o their_o example_n now_o christ_n also_o be_v somewhat_o stout_a plain_o show_v here_o christ_n the_o stoutne_n of_o christ_n that_o he_o can_v suffer_v the_o mastership_n of_o none_o but_o that_o he_o be_v altogether_o free_a &_o exempt_a from_o the_o commandment_n of_o all_o as_o common_o in_o the_o gospel_n we_o see_v he_o to_o be_v at_o his_o own_o will_n &_o pleasure_n who_o nevertheless_o otherwise_o be_v both_o gentle_a and_o also_o more_o serviceable_a than_o all_o the_o rest_n but_o when_o as_o they_o will_v deal_v with_o he_o by_o law_n &_o be_v his_o master_n they_o all_o friendship_n cease_v for_o he_o do_v not_o otherwise_o leap_v back_o than_o the_o adamant_n lay_v upon_o the_o anvil_n &_o strike_v speak_v and_o do_v only_o the_o contrary_a of_o that_o which_o they_o require_v of_o he_o although_o they_o seem_v to_o speak_v even_o right_o and_o well_o allege_v thereunto_o also_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o they_o do_v here_o where_o they_o come_v and_o say_v thou_o must_v do_v thus_o thou_o must_v follow_v the_o conversation_n of_o honest_a man_n thou_o must_v flee_v the_o company_n of_o wicked_a man_n this_o true_o be_v a_o substantial_a doctrine_n and_o confirm_v by_o testimony_n of_o the_o scripture_n for_o moses_n himself_o command_v the_o jew_n to_o avoid_v evil_a man_n &_o take_v away_o evil_a from_o among_o they_o by_o this_o text_n they_o confirm_v their_o say_n &_o come_v with_o their_o moses_n unicorn_n christ_n compare_v to_o the_o unicorn_n and_o will_v make_v christ_n subject_a to_o their_o law_n and_o have_v he_o rule_v by_o they_o but_o christ_n nevertheless_o will_v be_v at_o his_o own_o liberty_n and_o he_o be_v not_o unlike_o the_o unicorn_n which_o beast_n man_n deny_v that_o he_o can_v be_v take_v alive_a with_o what_o kind_n of_o hunt_v soever_o he_o be_v assail_v he_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v wound_v to_o be_v strike_v with_o dart_n and_o to_o be_v slay_v law_n christ_n be_v impatient_a of_o law_n to_o be_v take_v he_o do_v not_o suffer_v himself_o no_o otherwise_o do_v christ_n also_o who_o although_o he_o be_v set_v upon_o by_o law_n yet_o do_v he_o not_o suffer_v they_o but_o break_v through_o as_o through_o a_o spider_n web_n rebuke_v they_o most_o sharp_o as_o matth._n 12._o where_o they_o find_v fault_n with_o his_o disciple_n because_o they_o have_v pluck_v the_o ear_n of_o corn_n on_o the_o sabbath_n day_n allege_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n that_o the_o sabbath_n be_v to_o be_v continue_v in_o it_o although_o assail_v with_o tentation_n it_o become_v even_o familiar_a and_o almost_o natural_a that_o we_o now_o enjoy_v god_n as_o a_o domestical_a father_n and_o do_v in_o every_o thing_n most_o confident_o call_v upon_o he_o verse_n 7._o wherefore_o now_o thou_o be_v not_o a_o servant_n but_o a_o son_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o son_n thou_o be_v also_o a_o heir_n of_o god_n acceptable_a unto_o he_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o thou_o have_v receive_v of_o he_o and_o possess_v salvation_n and_o all_o thing_n that_o thereupon_o work_n may_v free_o flow_v forth_o to_o the_o honour_n of_o so_o gracious_a a_o father_n and_o to_o the_o profit_n of_o thy_o neighbour_n without_o any_o fear_n of_o punishment_n or_o look_v for_o reward_n this_o that_o which_o paul_n
9_o this_o offence_n come_v because_o of_o our_o faith_n and_o can_v not_o be_v avoid_v of_o we_o and_o therefore_o the_o blame_n thereof_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v lay_v upon_o us._n howbeit_o there_o be_v a_o other_o offence_n which_o proceed_v hereof_o for_o that_o our_o love_n be_v not_o sufficient_a dutiful_a this_o come_v through_o we_o inasmuch_o as_o our_o work_n be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o number_v not_o mass_n and_o prayer_n for_o the_o dead_a or_o other_o trifle_n of_o feign_a worship_n of_o god_n he_o rehearse_v those_o thing_n that_o pertain_v to_o the_o true_a and_o right_a service_n of_o god_n whereby_o the_o body_n be_v chastise_v and_o the_o flesh_n tame_v which_o be_v well_o to_o be_v note_v lest_o that_o any_o neglect_v fasting_n watch_n and_o labour_n and_o make_v which_o it_o rather_o suffer_v be_v raise_v of_o other_o against_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o as_o in_o time_n past_o achab_n accuse_v the_o most_o holy_a prophet_n elias_n of_o sedition_n affirm_v that_o it_o be_v he_o that_o trouble_a israel_n when_o as_o he_o himself_o in_o deed_n do_v trouble_v it_o so_o be_v it_o neither_o a_o shameful_a nor_o new_a thing_n for_o we_o to_o be_v accuse_v of_o the_o same_o when_o we_o preach_v the_o same_o word_n let_v we_o think_v when_o the_o enemy_n of_o god_n lay_v this_o reproach_n and_o slander_v upon_o we_o that_o not_o only_a elias_n not_o abide_v adversity_n and_o trouble_n â–ª_o but_o he_o special_o reprove_v our_o delicate_a one_o which_o quiet_o enjoy_v revenue_n and_o rent_n and_o take_v their_o delight_n and_o pleasure_n think_v that_o it_o be_v a_o unworthy_a thing_n that_o they_o shall_v labour_v for_o they_o be_v shave_v wear_v long_a gown_n and_o cry_v out_o in_o temple_n etc._n etc._n howbeit_o these_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o approve_v themselves_o before_o god_n bread_n god_n will_v have_v none_o to_o be_v idle_a but_o also_o labour_n and_o so_o eat_v their_o own_o bread_n who_o will_v have_v all_o to_o labour_n and_o eat_v their_o own_o and_o not_o other_o man_n bread_n as_o it_o be_v write_v by_o paul_n to_o the_o thessalonians_n who_o therefore_o teach_v here_o also_o that_o god_n be_v serve_v by_o labour_n and_o not_o that_o only_a but_o that_o we_o also_o be_v thereby_o prove_v and_o commend_v to_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o god_n in_o knowledge_n paul_n take_v knowledge_n here_o for_o that_o which_o we_o call_v prudence_n or_o wisdom_n whereby_o we_o use_v thing_n with_o reason_n behave_v ourselves_o with_o discretion_n and_o comeliness_n of_o which_o knowledge_n the_o say_v also_o miracle_n we_o read_v of_o a_o certain_a eremite_n who_o because_o he_o have_v vow_v to_o take_v bread_n of_o no_o man_n bring_v himself_o into_o peril_n by_o hunger_n and_o so_o perish_v and_o they_o break_v their_o neck_n fall_v into_o utter_a desperation_n now_o satan_n persuade_v miserable_a man_n unto_o this_o madness_n as_o also_o he_o persuade_v christ_n to_o cast_v himself_o down_o from_o a_o pinnacle_n of_o the_o temple_n by_o place_n of_o scripture_n pervert_v and_o misapply_v wherein_o work_n be_v command_v whereby_o he_o make_v they_o believe_v that_o the_o angel_n shall_v tentation_n and_o the_o cause_n of_o they_o do_v great_o differ_v in_o the_o former_a the_o cause_n why_o man_n do_v not_o believe_v be_v need_n and_o hunger_n for_o they_o be_v thereby_o move_v to_o distrust_n god_n and_o despeire_n of_o his_o goodness_n in_o the_o latter_a the_o cause_n why_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v be_v overmuch_o abundance_n for_o that_o miserable_a man_n be_v full_a of_o most_o plentiful_a and_o abundant_a treasure_n so_o that_o they_o loathe_v it_o covet_v to_o have_v some_o other_o special_a thing_n whereby_o they_o may_v procure_v the_o salvation_n of_o their_o plenty_n howsoever_o god_n deal_v with_o we_o we_o be_v not_o content_a our_o incredulity_n be_v a_o bottomless_a pit_n of_o malice_n and_o ungodliness_n again_o the_o devil_n take_v he_o up_o into_o a_o exceed_a high_a mountain_n world_n tentation_n by_o vain_a glory_n pleasure_n and_o delight_n of_o the_o world_n here_o he_o tempt_v with_o vain_a glory_n &_o power_n of_o the_o world_n as_o by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o devil_n do_v plain_o appear_v who_o show_v christ_n the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o world_n offer_v they_o to_o he_o if_o he_o will_v worship_v he_o by_o this_o tentation_n they_o be_v overcome_v which_o revolt_n from_o faith_n that_o they_o may_v enjoy_v glory_n and_o power_n here_o or_o at_o least_o do_v so_o temper_v their_o faith_n that_o they_o lose_v not_o these_o thing_n out_o of_o the_o common_a number_n they_o may_v be_v extol_v on_o high_a so_o we_o may_v place_v this_o tentation_n on_o the_o right_a hand_n as_o the_o first_o assail_v we_o on_o the_o left_a for_o as_o the_o first_o tentation_n be_v of_o adversity_n whereby_o we_o be_v move_v to_o indignation_n impatiency_n &_o diffidence_n so_o this_o three_o tentation_n be_v of_o prosperity_n whereby_o we_o suffer_v such_o poverty_n or_o enjoy_v plenty_n of_o thing_n whether_o they_o contend_v or_o yield_v unto_o all_o thing_n both_o be_v nothing_o while_o they_o be_v in_o error_n either_o patience_n in_o adversity_n or_o constancy_n in_o prosperity_n can_v be_v of_o no_o importance_n for_o in_o both_o even_a heretic_n
thou_o find_v comfort_n in_o thy_o conscience_n and_o say_v with_o micheas_n who_o be_v such_o a_o god_n as_o thou_o 7._o mich._n 7._o that_o pardone_v wickedness_n &_o cast_v all_o our_o sin_n into_o the_o bottom_n of_o the_o sea_n whosoever_o take_v not_o away_o sin_n they_o be_v no_o god_n but_o idol_n whereupon_o he_o say_v right_o that_o none_o be_v like_a unto_o our_o god_n for_o other_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n be_v increase_v loe_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o where_o man_n believe_v the_o lord_n give_v so_o much_o as_o succour_v and_o help_v all_o man_n the_o faithful_a man_n outward_o help_v the_o needy_a with_o his_o substance_n and_o good_n and_o from_o within_o he_o break_v forth_o teach_v other_o and_o enrich_v they_o also_o inward_o for_o such_o a_o man_n can_v not_o hold_v his_o peace_n but_o be_v enforce_v to_o show_v and_o declare_v to_o other_o how_o he_o be_v deal_v with_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o 51._o psal_n make_v i_o a_o clean_a heart_n o_o god_n and_o renew_v a_o right_a spirit_n within_o i_o cast_v i_o not_o away_o from_o thy_o presence_n and_o take_v not_o thy_o holy_a spirit_n from_o i_o o_o give_v i_o the_o comfort_n of_o thy_o help_n again_o and_o establish_v i_o with_o thy_o free_a spirit_n then_o shall_v i_o teach_v thy_o way_n unto_o the_o wicked_a and_o sinner_n shall_v be_v convert_v unto_o thou_o and_o in_o a_o other_o must_v cleave_v to_o the_o bare_a word_n and_o look_v for_o no_o other_o sign_n but_o philip_n think_v here_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v much_o more_o certify_v if_o he_o do_v see_v the_o father_n then_o if_o he_o believe_v the_o simple_a and_o bare_a word_n this_o incredulity_n christ_n reprove_v somewhat_o sharp_o and_o say_v have_v i_o be_v so_o long_a time_n with_o you_o &_o have_v thou_o not_o know_v i_o as_o though_o he_o shall_v say_v i_o teach_v and_o preach_v and_o yet_o thou_o know_v i_o not_o do_v thou_o not_o know_v that_o the_o father_n will_v be_v know_v by_o i_o that_o my_o eternal_a life_n see_v therefore_o that_o these_o thing_n be_v thus_o that_o we_o can_v not_o know_v the_o father_n but_o in_o the_o son_n and_o when_o we_o know_v the_o son_n we_o know_v also_o the_o father_n the_o lord_n say_v moreover_o unto_o philip_n how_o then_o say_v thou_o show_v we_o thy_o father_n believe_v thou_o not_o that_o i_o be_o in_o the_o father_n and_o the_o father_n be_v in_o i_o as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v forasmuch_o as_o there_o be_v no_o other_o way_n to_o know_v the_o father_n but_o that_o which_o i_o have_v show_v why_o i_o pray_v thou_o do_v thou_o not_o believe_v be_v the_o power_n of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o father_n wherefore_o see_v the_o son_n be_v know_v by_o his_o word_n it_o necessary_o follow_v that_o the_o father_n also_o be_v know_v thereby_o the_o sign_n which_o bear_v witness_v of_o the_o word_n and_o whereby_o the_o father_n have_v give_v testimony_n of_o i_o for_o the_o work_n and_o sign_n be_v testimony_n of_o the_o word_n by_o these_o word_n christ_n mean_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o confirm_v the_o conscience_n of_o his_o disciple_n and_o of_o all_o we_o against_o the_o offence_n of_o the_o cross_n for_o conscience_n will_v know_v and_o not_o believe_v the_o bare_a word_n of_o god_n but_o do_v always_o doubt_v and_o say_v what_o if_o god_n care_v not_o for_o thou_o and_o have_v such_o like_a cogitation_n holy_a &_o godly_a man_n seem_v for_o the_o most_o part_n to_o be_v neglect_v as_o abject_n and_o most_o contemptible_a man_n inasmuch_o as_o the_o world_n according_a to_o the_o will_n &_o lust_n thereof_o throne_n of_o his_o father_n david_n the_o lord_n also_o speak_v these_o word_n i_o go_v to_o the_o father_n to_o comfort_v his_o disciple_n for_o as_o he_o do_v before_o begin_v to_o confirm_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v trouble_v and_o offend_v although_o he_o shall_v dye_v but_o courageous_o cleave_v to_o he_o and_o believe_v in_o he_o so_o here_o he_o promise_v they_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v glorify_v for_o he_o go_v to_o the_o father_n who_o shall_v deliver_v all_o thing_n into_o his_o hand_n that_o he_o may_v mighty_o obtain_v a_o kingdom_n over_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o god_n all_o these_o thing_n say_v christ_n i_o will_v do_v for_o this_o cause_n that_o the_o father_n may_v be_v glorify_v in_o the_o son_n the_o father_n be_v then_o glorify_v when_o glory_n be_v give_v and_o ascribe_v unto_o he_o not_o unto_o us._n that_o be_v when_o we_o acknowledge_v the_o we_o be_v save_v not_o by_o our_o own_o merit_n not_o by_o our_o own_o wisdom_n and_o righteousness_n but_o do_v put_v our_o trust_n in_o his_o mercy_n for_o he_o have_v give_v his_o son_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o whatsoever_o we_o purpose_v to_o ask_v we_o must_v ask_v it_o by_o this_o
