because_o every_o child_n of_o god_n can_v attain_v to_o abraham_n faith_n and_o to_o a_o full_a persuasion_n and_o therefore_o all_o such_o as_o have_v but_o the_o begin_n of_o faith_n must_v not_o be_v discourage_v for_o thou_o may_v be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n with_o thy_o little_a faith_n if_o thou_o bewail_v it_o and_o be_v diligent_a to_o attain_v to_o strong_a faith_n endless_a &_o unspeakable_a be_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o this_o behalf_n he_o pardon_v manifold_a doubt_n distrust_n and_o unbelief_n to_o they_o that_o bewail_v it_o and_o desire_v to_o increase_v in_o faith_n second_o the_o cause_n why_o christ_n reprove_v his_o own_o disciple_n thus_o sharp_o be_v because_o they_o do_v not_o believe_v in_o god_n for_o raiment_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v principal_a the_o principal_n be_v christ_n god_n and_o man_n the_o redeemer_n of_o mankind_n with_o righteousness_n and_o life_n eternal_a in_o he_o this_o be_v the_o main_a &_o principal_a blessing_n now_o upon_o this_o there_o follow_v blessing_n less_o principal_a which_o be_v also_o promise_v as_o well_o as_o the_o principal_a and_o these_o be_v meat_n drink_n clothing_n health_n etc._n etc._n and_o these_o be_v promise_v we_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o they_o be_v for_o our_o good_a in_o christ_n and_o by_o christ_n all_o these_o be_v promise_v to_o this_o purpose_n paul_n say_v all_o the_o premise_n in_o he_o 1._o be_v yea_o and_o amen_n not_o only_o remission_n of_o sin_n be_v yea_o and_o amen_o that_o be_v a_o thing_n grant_v and_o accomplish_v but_o all_o other_o temporal_a blessing_n this_o be_v so_o now_o mark_v what_o follow_v when_o true_a faith_n lay_v hold_v on_o the_o main_a and_o principal_a blessing_n then_o withal_o it_o apprehend_v all_o other_o temporal_a blessing_n necessary_a they_o be_v all_o apprehend_v in_o and_o with_o the_o principal_n it_o be_v say_v of_o abraham_n 4._o that_o by_o his_o very_a justify_n faith_n he_o do_v believe_v that_o god_n will_v give_v he_o a_o son_n when_o he_o be_v a_o hundred_o year_n old_a it_o be_v not_o a_o diverse_a faith_n noah_n by_o the_o same_o faith_n 11._o whereby_o he_o be_v save_v believe_v that_o he_o shall_v be_v preserve_v and_o his_o household_n in_o the_o flood_n in_o like_a manner_n by_o one_o and_o the_o same_o faith_n we_o believe_v our_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n in_o christ_n &_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o that_o god_n will_v give_v we_o necessary_n meat_n drink_n cloth_n one_o and_o the_o same_o faith_n lay_v hold_v first_o on_o the_o main_a and_o principal_a promise_n and_o then_o on_o the_o less_o principal_a this_o point_n must_v be_v mark_v and_o this_o point_n remember_v first_o mercy_n than_o providence_n first_o the_o principal_a blessing_n and_o then_o the_o temporal_a every_o man_n say_v he_o look_v to_o be_v save_v by_o faith_n when_o he_o die_v and_o it_o be_v well_o but_o we_o must_v add_v this_o we_o must_v live_v by_o faith_n too_o we_o must_v lead_v our_o life_n by_o the_o same_o faith_n by_o which_o we_o look_v to_o be_v save_v after_o this_o life_n and_o we_o must_v depend_v on_o god_n providence_n as_o certain_o for_o these_o necessary_n as_o we_o do_v upon_o his_o mercy_n for_o our_o salvation_n we_o must_v not_o live_v by_o sense_n or_o reason_n but_o by_o faith_n how_o this_o be_v to_o be_v do_v you_o shall_v see_v afterward_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o we_o to_o be_v save_v by_o faith_n when_o we_o die_v if_o we_o do_v not_o live_v by_o faith_n he_o that_o can_v cast_v himself_o upon_o god_n providence_n for_o the_o necessary_n of_o this_o life_n can_v much_o less_o cast_v himself_o on_o god_n mercy_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o his_o soul_n so_o much_o for_o the_o second_o point_n three_o christ_n give_v we_o here_o a_o note_n and_o mark_v whereby_o we_o may_v try_v our_o faith_n whether_o it_o be_v a_o save_a faith_n or_o no_o true_a or_o feign_a great_a or_o little_a for_o he_o give_v we_o to_o understand_v that_o the_o more_o man_n be_v distract_v with_o worldly_a care_n the_o less_o be_v their_o faith_n and_o the_o reason_n be_v plain_a the_o more_o man_n care_n be_v the_o less_o their_o trust_n be_v in_o god_n providence_n and_o the_o less_o their_o trust_n be_v in_o god_n providence_n the_o less_o faith_n in_o his_o mercy_n for_o their_o salvation_n so_o that_o where_o worldly_a care_n bear_v rule_v there_o be_v no_o faith_n in_o god_n providence_n as_o long_o as_o man_n be_v in_o prosperity_n they_o think_v they_o have_v great_a faith_n but_o in_o poverty_n and_o affliction_n their_o faith_n be_v try_v for_o then_o common_o the_o hart_n be_v swallow_v up_o with_o grief_n and_o fear_n he_o that_o can_v rest_v on_o god_n providence_n for_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n how_o shall_v he_o rest_v on_o god_n mercy_n in_o the_o pain_n of_o death_n and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o reproof_n 31._o therefore_o take_v no_o thought_n say_v what_o shall_v we_o eat_v or_o what_o shall_v we_o drink_v or_o wherewith_o shall_v we_o be_v clothe_v these_o word_n be_v a_o repetition_n of_o the_o commandment_n deliver_v in_o the_o 25._o verse_n and_o here_o the_o commandment_n be_v the_o second_o time_n repeat_v once_o before_o it_o be_v repeat_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o repetition_n be_v diverse_a one_o i_o have_v declare_v before_o and_o that_o be_v that_o against_o doubt_v distrust_n and_o unbelief_n &_o therefore_o we_o be_v often_o to_o urge_v the_o commandment_n to_o ourselves_o and_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o it_o and_o apply_v it_o strive_v &_o struggle_v wrestle_v &_o labour_n for_o this_o end_n that_o we_o may_v more_o constant_o and_o hearty_o apply_v the_o promise_n of_o mercy_n and_o providence_n to_o ourselves_o this_o be_v the_o commandment_n now_o to_o the_o word_n therefore_o take_v no_o thought_n etc._n etc._n these_o word_n tend_v to_o this_o end_n not_o to_o breed_v idleness_n or_o carelessness_n in_o any_o but_o as_o i_o declare_v in_o the_o 25._o verse_n therefore_o i_o will_v show_v you_o how_o far_o forth_o we_o may_v care_v for_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n and_o where_o it_o must_v end_v first_o it_o teach_v we_o that_o when_o all_o help_n fail_v we_o walk_v in_o our_o call_n and_o have_v do_v what_o we_o can_v without_o our_o default_n god_n blessing_n shall_v not_o be_v want_v we_o shall_v have_v meat_n drink_n and_o cloth_n though_o all_o mean_n fail_v we_o and_o for_o this_o end_n these_o word_n be_v set_v down_o 29._o yet_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o that_o even_o solomon_n in_o all_o we_o have_v do_v all_o we_o can_v we_o can_v match_v one_o of_o these_o flower_n but_o they_o will_v go_v beyond_o us._n why_o then_o shall_v we_o puff_n up_o ourselves_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o apparel_n when_o as_o the_o least_o herb_n in_o the_o field_n be_v more_o gay_a what_o cloth_n in_o whiteness_n come_v near_o the_o lily_n what_o purple_a like_o the_o violet_n and_o what_o crimson_a or_o scarlet_n be_v like_o diverse_a other_o flower_n art_n may_v do_v much_o but_o it_o can_v match_v nature_n do_v what_o we_o can_v the_o herb_n will_v go_v beyond_o us._n and_o if_o it_o be_v so_o why_o be_v we_o so_o proud_a of_o our_o apparel_n the_o herb_n which_o thou_o tread_v under_o thy_o foot_n and_o put_v into_o the_o furnace_n be_v fine_a than_o thou_o be_v i_o nunc_fw-la effer_fw-la te_fw-la quòd_fw-la pulchro_fw-la incedis_fw-la amictu_fw-la te_fw-la longè_fw-la superat_fw-la fertile_a graâ—um_fw-la agri_fw-la the_o second_o use_n be_v to_o teach_v we_o that_o all_o our_o pomp_n be_v but_o vain_a for_o what_o be_v more_o frail_a than_o the_o herb_n which_o be_v to_o day_n in_o the_o field_n and_o to_o morrow_n be_v cut_v down_o so_o the_o whole_a nature_n of_o man_n be_v frail_a and_o brittle_a as_o paul_n say_v all_o the_o glory_n and_o pomp_n of_o this_o world_n be_v vain_a and_o pass_v away_o subject_a to_o change_v and_o alteration_n and_o yet_o when_o christ_n speak_v this_o of_o salomon_n glory_n and_o make_v it_o inferior_a to_o the_o herb_n prefer_v this_o before_o that_o he_o condemn_v not_o salomon_n glory_n for_o it_o be_v promise_v he_o &_o give_v he_o by_o god_n and_o the_o word_n though_o it_o condemn_v curiosity_n and_o superfluity_n of_o apparel_n yet_o it_o condemn_v not_o gorgeous_a apparel_n in_o prince_n and_o great_a personage_n the_o pomp_n in_o apparel_n be_v not_o simple_o condemn_v in_o the_o word_n 23._o for_o joseph_n refuse_v not_o the_o ring_n and_o fine_a garment_n and_o whereas_o luke_n say_v of_o agrippa_n and_o bernice_n that_o they_o come_v with_o much_o pomp_n the_o word_n may_v be_v take_v as_o well_o in_o good_a part_n as_o ill_o 30._o wherefore_o if_o god_n so_o clothe_v the_o grass_n of_o the_o field_n live_a soul_n as_o for_o the_o soul_n of_o beast_n &_o plant_n whether_o they_o be_v quality_n or_o substance_n it_o be_v not_o know_v but_o they_o perish_v &_o be_v corruptible_a and_o they_o cease_v to_o be_v that_o they_o be_v but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o man_n for_o when_o he_o die_v he_o cease_v not_o to_o be_v a_o man_n a_o dead_a man_n be_v a_o man_n still_o though_o not_o a_o live_a man_n and_o his_o soul_n shall_v be_v reunite_v to_o his_o body_n yea_o the_o body_n that_o be_v dead_a and_o lie_v in_o the_o grave_n be_v unite_v to_o christ_n as_o well_o as_o the_o soul_n and_o by_o virtue_n thereof_o it_o shall_v rise_v again_o i_o speak_v now_o of_o the_o righteous_a especial_o and_o therefore_o dead_a abraham_n be_v abraham_n still_o now_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o they_o into_o that_o state_n that_o they_o have_v god_n for_o their_o father_n and_o they_o be_v his_o child_n objection_n consider_v that_o in_o the_o disciple_n &_o other_o that_o their_o unbelief_n be_v more_o than_o their_o faith_n their_o faith_n can_v save_v they_o the_o sin_n be_v great_a than_o
of_o the_o necessary_a commodity_n of_o this_o life_n and_o these_o sin_n be_v as_o common_a among_o we_o as_o they_o be_v among_o the_o infidel_n it_o be_v a_o shame_n for_o we_o that_o be_v separate_v from_o they_o in_o profession_n and_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o christian_n to_o live_v in_o the_o same_o sin_n nay_o in_o regard_n of_o oppression_n and_o cruelty_n there_o be_v never_o more_o find_v among_o the_o heathen_a the_o poor_a sort_n die_v for_o want_v of_o relief_n hard-hearted_a man_n get_v their_o live_n by_o god_n judgement_n and_o fill_v their_o purse_n then_o and_o be_v like_o the_o gentile_n for_o your_o heavenly_a father_n know_v etc._n etc._n you_o have_v a_o father_n in_o heaven_n and_o he_o know_v your_o need_n this_o be_v a_o answer_n to_o a_o objection_n for_o some_o may_v say_v what_o may_v we_o not_o care_n for_o thing_n needful_a these_o be_v thing_n needful_a christ_n answer_v no._n though_o they_o be_v necessary_a yet_o you_o must_v have_v no_o distrustful_a care_n your_o heavenly_a father_n know_v best_a what_o and_o how_o much_o of_o these_o temporal_a blessing_n be_v needful_a for_o you_o a_o most_o excellent_a reason_n and_o alone_o for_o we_o then_o health_n so_o when_o we_o be_v in_o poverty_n we_o ought_v as_o well_o to_o be_v content_a as_o with_o health_n for_o our_o father_n know_v this_o to_o be_v more_o for_o our_o good_a than_o plenty_n and_o abundance_n this_o aught_o also_o to_o make_v we_o content_v even_o when_o we_o lie_v a_o die_a and_o yield_v up_o the_o ghost_n for_o our_o father_n see_v it_o to_o be_v for_o our_o good_a when_o we_o die_v that_o we_o shall_v live_v no_o long_o so_o in_o any_o judgement_n of_o god_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v this_o aught_o to_o content_v we_o that_o we_o have_v a_o father_n and_o he_o know_v what_o be_v good_a for_o us._n therefore_o be_v it_o whatsoever_o it_o will_v be_v that_o god_n send_v it_o be_v good_a in_o the_o wisdom_n of_o our_o father_n though_o not_o in_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o his_o righteousness_n and_o all_o these_o thing_n shall_v be_v minister_v unto_o you_o hitherto_o have_v be_v show_v what_o care_n be_v to_o be_v eschew_v now_o follow_v the_o care_n to_o be_v use_v and_o this_o verse_n have_v two_o part_n viz._n a_o commandment_n or_o a_o exhortation_n and_o a_o promise_n i_o will_v speak_v first_o of_o the_o meaning_n and_o then_o of_o the_o instruction_n the_o commandment_n be_v two_o fold_n first_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n second_o his_o righteousness_n viz._n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n to_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o have_v a_o care_n to_o get_v it_o to_o labour_v and_o endeavour_n to_o obtain_v it_o seek_v this_o first_o this_o be_v above_o all_o thing_n whatsoever_o have_v a_o care_n of_o this_o what_o be_v mean_v here_o by_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n it_o signify_v a_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o certain_a man_n which_o be_v in_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o have_v right_a to_o life_n eternal_a by_o christ._n this_o very_a state_n be_v call_v in_o the_o scripture_n the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o of_o heaven_n and_o this_o kingdom_n be_v only_o one_o there_o be_v not_o two_o distinct_a kingdom_n of_o god_n but_o only_o one_o perfect_a and_o complete_a kingdom_n yet_o it_o have_v diverse_a degree_n viz._n first_o of_o grace_n second_o of_o glory_n the_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n be_v that_o in_o which_o a_o man_n be_v rule_v by_o god_n word_n and_o spirit_n and_o that_o be_v the_o first_o step_n and_o entrance_n into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n the_o kingdom_n of_o glory_n be_v to_o have_v fellowship_n with_o the_o trinity_n after_o this_o life_n now_o both_o these_o degree_n be_v here_o understand_v by_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n it_o be_v further_a add_v and_o his_o righteousness_n the_o second_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v seek_v for_o above_o all_o and_o before_o all_o other_o thing_n whatsoever_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n whereby_o he_o make_v we_o righteous_a some_o have_v read_v it_o thus_o and_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o but_o the_o word_n will_v not_o bear_v the_o translation_n it_o must_v be_v as_o it_o be_v and_o no_o otherwise_o viz._n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v add_v for_o a_o weighty_a cause_n for_o god_n kingdom_n stand_v in_o righteousness_n god_n then_o reign_v in_o the_o hart_n of_o man_n and_o set_v up_o his_o kingdom_n there_o when_o he_o enable_v they_o to_o serve_v god_n in_o righteousness_n &_o then_o man_n be_v god_n subject_n and_o therefore_o these_o word_n be_v a_o excellent_a exposition_n of_o the_o former_a when_o god_n justify_v a_o sinner_n by_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n and_o enable_v he_o to_o obey_v god_n commandment_n this_o righteousness_n paul_n speak_v of_o rom._n 1._o 18._o 2._o cor._n 5._o 21._o he_o that_o know_v no_o sin_n be_v make_v sin_n for_o we_o that_o we_o may_v be_v make_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n &_o 1_o cor._n 1._o 3._o in_o all_o these_o and_o other_o place_n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n god_n and_o man_n which_o he_o perform_v in_o our_o behalf_n in_o his_o suffering_n and_o fulfil_a the_o law_n this_o be_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n and_o be_v so_o term_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o be_v indeed_o the_o groundwork_n and_o substance_n of_o the_o kingdom_n now_o it_o be_v so_o call_v for_o diverse_a cause_n first_o because_o it_o be_v give_v of_o god_n free_o and_o man_n can_v get_v it_o neither_o by_o nature_n nor_o grace_n there_o be_v a_o civil_a righteousness_n which_o man_n have_v by_o nature_n and_o a_o religiousnesse_n before_o man_n which_o be_v of_o grace_n but_o this_o be_v neither_o of_o they_o it_o be_v out_o of_o the_o reach_n of_o nature_n and_o grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v god_n righteousness_n as_o a_o gift_n free_o give_v of_o god_n second_o because_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n god_n will_v approve_v of_o it_o and_o accept_v it_o as_o a_o perfect_a satisfaction_n of_o his_o law_n and_o nothing_o else_o be_v answerable_a to_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v also_o thus_o call_v because_o it_o be_v a_o righteousness_n which_o may_v be_v oppose_v to_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n in_o the_o last_o judgement_n three_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n be_v call_v god_n righteousness_n because_o he_o be_v such_o a_o person_n as_o be_v both_o god_n &_o man_n the_o son_n of_o the_o father_n be_v god_n as_o the_o father_n and_o though_o this_o obedience_n be_v perform_v in_o the_o manhood_n yet_o it_o be_v perform_v by_o a_o person_n that_o be_v both_o god_n and_o man_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o that_o person_n it_o be_v so_o call_v adam_n righteousness_n be_v in_o himself_o and_o he_o lose_v it_o therefore_o now_o our_o righteousness_n be_v in_o christ_n who_o be_v god_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v god_n righteousness_n 1._o cor._n 1._o 30._o now_o how_o be_v this_o obedience_n make_v we_o or_o how_o shall_v we_o come_v by_o it_o by_o imputation_n for_o god_n be_v content_a to_o accept_v it_o for_o us._n and_o here_o we_o must_v further_o understand_v sanctification_n to_o be_v join_v with_o it_o for_o it_o must_v not_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o
