it_o out_o of_o time_n betoken_v scarcity_n of_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o so_o consequent_o dearth_n and_o famine_n preparation_n for_o war_n by_o a_o mighty_a and_o strong_a enemy_n threaten_v the_o loss_n of_o man_n and_o spoil_v of_o good_n the_o beginning_n of_o the_o plague_n portend_v great_a mortality_n and_o such_o like_a therefore_o when_o there_o have_v be_v but_o the_o begin_n of_o such_o thing_n see_v the_o stormy_a tempest_n as_o it_o be_v arise_v they_o have_v seek_v by_o this_o ordinance_n of_o fast_v as_o by_o a_o sure_a refuge_n to_o escape_v it_o and_o so_o enough_o to_o move_v they_o to_o seek_v unto_o the_o lord_n in_o fast_v and_o prayer_n to_o escape_v it_o or_o to_o find_v mercy_n in_o it_o even_o as_o a_o ingenuous_a child_n and_o he_o that_o be_v of_o any_o good_a disposition_n seek_v to_o his_o father_n for_o pardon_n not_o only_a when_o he_o be_v under_o the_o rod_n of_o correction_n and_o feel_v the_o stripe_n but_o when_o he_o see_v his_o father_n with_o a_o angry_a countenance_n come_v towards_o he_o with_o the_o rod_n in_o his_o hand_n so_o they_o have_v not_o tarry_v till_o they_o have_v feel_v the_o smart_n of_o god_n correction_n upon_o themselves_o but_o the_o very_a show_n of_o his_o wrath_n come_v against_o they_o have_v be_v sufficient_a to_o move_v they_o to_o humble_v themselves_o before_o he_o and_o to_o crave_v his_o pardon_n in_o which_o respect_n also_o beside_o that_o that_o we_o speak_v of_o before_o we_o must_v needs_o confess_v that_o we_o have_v great_a cause_n to_o fast_o and_o pray_v public_o for_o beside_o that_o great_a wrath_n of_o god_n that_o have_v be_v a_o long_a time_n upon_o our_o brethren_n fast_n in_o respect_n of_o god_n wrath_n likely_a yet_o further_o to_o come_v upon_o uâ—_n there_o be_v cause_n of_o these_o public_a fast_n which_o be_v a_o thing_n present_a and_o so_o ought_v to_o move_v if_o we_o further_o consider_v what_o cause_n we_o have_v to_o fear_v ourselves_o must_v acknowledge_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o disease_n to_o be_v very_o contagious_a and_o infective_a above_o all_o other_o and_o that_o it_o spread_v from_o one_o place_n to_o another_o after_o a_o special_a manner_n and_o that_o it_o infect_v also_o after_o a_o extraordinary_a kind_n as_o not_o only_o by_o touch_v and_o eat_v and_o drink_v with_o they_o and_o keep_v they_o company_n that_o be_v sick_a of_o it_o as_o some_o other_o disease_n do_v but_o even_o by_o the_o breath_n that_o we_o draw_v in_o which_o as_o it_o be_v the_o most_o common_a nourishment_n that_o we_o have_v and_o without_o the_o which_o we_o can_v not_o live_v so_o it_o be_v most_o subtle_a and_o speedy_a above_o all_o other_o so_o that_o it_o work_v in_o we_o with_o great_a expedition_n whereupon_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o even_o by_o pass_v by_o they_o even_o sudden_o with_o the_o breath_n and_o savour_n of_o they_o that_o be_v infect_v we_o be_v corrupt_v and_o it_o be_v a_o poison_n and_o so_o infect_v deadly_a and_o speedy_o as_o all_o poison_n do_v all_o the_o part_n of_o the_o body_n infect_v â—f_o we_o consider_v the_o contagious_a nature_n of_o the_o plague_n how_o speedy_o and_o how_o deadly_a â—t_z infect_v and_o not_o so_o much_o corrupt_v the_o humour_n of_o the_o body_n which_o be_v sufficient_a to_o breed_v deadly_a disease_n as_o it_o infect_v the_o heart_n and_o the_o spirit_n and_o all_o the_o vital_a part_n and_o therefore_o dispatch_v a_o man_n quick_o and_o kill_v he_o speedy_o &_o so_o may_v die_v sudden_o as_o experience_n teach_v even_o in_o this_o plague_n that_o some_o be_v take_v into_o a_o man_n house_n over_o night_n have_v be_v find_v dead_a in_o the_o morning_n and_o some_o have_v fall_v from_o their_o horse_n as_o they_o travel_v and_o
under_o the_o heaven_n and_o so_o there_o be_v a_o time_n wherein_o we_o be_v as_o well_o command_v to_o fast_o as_o we_o have_v liberty_n to_o feast_v and_o therefore_o as_o esra_n and_o the_o levite_n will_v not_o have_v the_o people_n to_o fast_v &_o weep_v then_o 8.10.11_o nehem._n 8.10.11_o but_o rather_o to_o eat_v and_o rejoice_v when_o it_o be_v a_o time_n of_o joy_n so_o the_o must_v therefore_o be_v persuade_v that_o as_o there_o be_v time_n in_o which_o god_n of_o his_o great_a mercy_n give_v we_o liberty_n to_o feast_v and_o to_o use_v his_o creature_n not_o only_o for_o necessity_n spare_o but_o for_o delight_v abundant_o as_o at_o marriage_n and_o other_o time_n of_o rejoice_v so_o there_o be_v a_o time_n also_o when_o he_o will_v have_v we_o not_o only_o eat_v temperate_o which_o we_o must_v do_v always_o even_o at_o feast_n that_o we_o fall_v not_o to_o surfit_v and_o drunkenness_n but_o even_o to_o abstain_v whole_o from_o meat_n and_o drink_n and_o all_o other_o comfort_n of_o this_o life_n to_o those_o bless_a end_n for_o which_o he_o have_v ordain_v it_o 16.29_o â—he_v jews_n â—d_a a_o stand_v fast_o â—erely_o â—eu_n 16.29_o to_o this_o end_n we_o may_v remember_v what_o be_v write_v concern_v fast_v in_o the_o book_n of_o leviticus_fw-la and_o namely_o how_o there_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o lord_n command_v the_o jew_n once_o a_o year_n fast_n shall_v be_v keep_v perpetual_o once_o a_o year_n and_o in_o what_o month_n and_o what_o day_n of_o the_o month_n and_o to_o what_o end_n namely_o to_o humble_v themselves_o for_o their_o sin_n and_o therefore_o what_o must_v then_o be_v do_v viz._n that_o they_o must_v abstain_v from_o all_o work_n and_o worldly_a business_n and_o be_v occupy_v in_o all_o exercise_n of_o god_n worship_n as_o upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n and_o that_o the_o priest_n shall_v make_v atonement_n by_o prayer_n to_o obtain_v remission_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o the_o same_o commandment_n be_v set_v down_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o this_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v command_v they_o yearly_o to_o do_v even_o to_o keep_v a_o day_n of_o fast_o and_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n of_o it_o it_o there_o be_v great_a reasâ—_n of_o it_o for_o in_o the_o year_n many_o great_a sin_n may_v be_v commit_v of_o all_o sort_n which_o may_v just_o provoke_v god_n wrath_n against_o they_o and_o so_o they_o we_o in_o mind_n of_o and_z to_z further_o we_o in_o god_n service_n for_o how_o few_o do_v it_o at_o all_o or_o as_o they_o shall_v upon_o the_o week_n day_n and_o then_o what_o will_v they_o do_v if_o there_o be_v no_o sabbath_n at_o all_o so_o the_o godly_a no_o doubt_n in_o those_o day_n do_v find_v by_o their_o own_o experience_n that_o though_o they_o have_v oftentimes_o cause_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o the_o punishment_n of_o they_o to_o fast_v public_o and_o private_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v have_v no_o set_a time_n appoint_v for_o it_o they_o shall_v very_o itself_o right_o use_v be_v a_o mean_n of_o health_n for_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v by_o their_o ignorance_n and_o abuse_v the_o cause_n of_o many_o grievous_a disease_n &_o mortality_n among_o they_o so_o it_o may_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o whereas_o by_o this_o mean_v we_o seek_v to_o pacify_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n already_o break_v out_o against_o we_o which_o also_o we_o shall_v do_v in_o time_n if_o it_o be_v right_o use_v for_o the_o neglect_n or_o abuse_v of_o it_o or_o both_o the_o plague_n shall_v not_o only_o not_o stay_v but_o we_o shall_v further_o provoke_v the_o lord_n to_o themselves_o well_o for_o it_o be_v sufficient_a that_o the_o lord_n who_o see_v all_o thing_n even_o those_o that_o be_v do_v in_o secret_a take_v knowledge_n of_o it_o and_o he_o will_v reward_v be_v more_o for_o estimation_n and_o credit_n than_o of_o conscience_n and_o love_n that_o then_o bear_v to_o it_o and_o it_o be_v more_o in_o the_o head_n than_o in_o the_o heart_n more_o in_o the_o tongue_n than_o in_o deed_n more_o in_o show_n than_o in_o truth_n and_o a_o great_a number_n though_o they_o have_v have_v it_o thus_o long_o yet_o be_v not_o only_o not_o better_v thereby_o but_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n worse_o than_o they_o be_v many_o year_n ago_o this_o open_a and_o manifest_a contempt_n of_o the_o gospel_n i_o say_v which_o be_v a_o great_a sin_n than_o all_o the_o sin_n
