of_o he_o meekness_n and_o lowliness_n of_o heart_n &_o piety_n and_o the_o true_a service_n of_o god_n this_o be_v the_o general_a we_o will_v come_v more_o particular_o to_o this_o that_o the_o apostle_n here_o set_v down_o especial_o in_o confession_n he_o set_v down_o christ_n confession_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n upon_o which_o depend_v our_o salvation_n the_o first_o be_v the_o inward_a action_n of_o the_o heart_n the_o second_o be_v the_o outward_a action_n of_o the_o mouth_n 10._o with_o the_o heart_n man_n believe_v to_o righteousness_n &_o with_o the_o mouth_n he_o confess_v to_o salvation_n now_o the_o apostle_n have_v to_o do_v with_o pastor_n not_o so_o much_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o inward_a disposition_n of_o their_o heart_n as_o of_o their_o outward_a pattern_n therefore_o he_o speak_v not_o a_o word_n of_o the_o inward_a disposition_n of_o the_o heart_n but_o of_o outward_a faithfulness_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o principal_o we_o be_v to_o look_v into_o namely_o how_o christ_n profess_v &_o confess_v &_o witness_v this_o his_o confession_n for_o these_o two_o be_v to_o be_v distinguish_v there_o be_v confession_n which_o be_v the_o matter_n &_o there_o be_v witness_v that_o be_v the_o fact_n so_o that_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v his_o confession_n &_o the_o witness_v of_o it_o &_o the_o place_n where_o that_o it_o be_v even_o under_o pont._n pilate_n or_o before_o he_o &_o so_o much_o the_o rather_o be_v we_o to_o take_v this_o to_o heart_n because_o we_o have_v a_o sad_a say_n which_o christ_n set_v down_o not_o only_o to_o pastor_n but_o to_o all_o christian_n where_o he_o say_v that_o heâ—_n which_o be_v ashamed_a of_o i_o before_o man_n &_o deny_v i_o before_o man_n of_o he_o will_v i_o be_v ashamed_a before_o my_o father_n &_o deny_v he_o but_o he_o that_o confess_v i_o before_o man_n he_o will_v i_o confess_v before_o my_o father_n in_o heaven_n it_o be_v therefore_o a_o dangerous_a thing_n to_o err_v in_o this_o see_v so_o heavy_a a_o sentence_n be_v give_v of_o they_o which_o confess_v he_o not_o this_o be_v the_o point_n which_o we_o be_v to_o look_v unto_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o christian_n to_o glory_n as_o many_o foolish_o do_v to_o wit_n of_o their_o faith_n that_o they_o do_v believe_v and_o yet_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n although_o they_o profess_v god_n in_o word_n yet_o they_o deny_v he_o in_o deed_n as_o paul_n say_v to_o titus_n now_o god_n will_v not_o have_v this_o but_o he_o will_v have_v as_o man_n believe_v with_o the_o heart_n so_o he_o shall_v confess_v the_o truth_n with_o his_o mouth_n if_o ever_o he_o think_v to_o be_v save_v the_o apostle_n be_v not_o ashamed_a no_o not_o in_o the_o very_a sight_n of_o the_o scribe_n &_o pharisee_n when_o they_o be_v accuse_v and_o forbid_v to_o preach_v in_o christ_n name_n they_o say_v plain_o to_o they_o judge_v you_o whether_o it_o be_v better_a to_o obey_v god_n or_o man_n the_o whole_a world_n can_v not_o silence_v they_o when_o god_n command_v they_o to_o speak_v he_o will_v never_o hold_v his_o peace_n from_o that_o which_o christ_n have_v make_v he_o a_o witness_n unto_o now_o all_o pastor_n be_v christ_n witness_n as_o christ_n say_v he_o have_v choose_v they_o to_o be_v witness_n to_o the_o gentile_n of_o that_o which_o they_o have_v hear_v &_o see_v pastor_n be_v the_o witness_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v appoint_v to_o bear_v record_n of_o his_o truth_n &_o if_o they_o be_v silent_a in_o this_o &_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n or_o life_n make_v they_o to_o shut_v their_o lip_n from_o speak_v of_o god_n truth_n this_o sentence_n shall_v meet_v they_o in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n &_o the_o prince_n of_o pastor_n shall_v be_v their_o conviction_n that_o they_o have_v not_o walk_v as_o become_v they_o because_o they_o do_v not_o do_v as_o he_o do_v so_o this_o confession_n be_v the_o thing_n that_o the_o apostle_n lay_v before_o we_o because_o fear_v many_o time_n make_v man_n dissemble_v with_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n &_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n many_o time_n make_v man_n to_o pervert_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n &_o to_o keep_v it_o close_o when_o god_n require_v it_o shall_v be_v speak_v the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v a_o example_n to_o we_o who_o never_o do_v pervert_v the_o truth_n nor_o conceal_v it_o for_o if_o every_o christian_a be_v bind_v to_o the_o apostle_n commandment_n to_o give_v a_o reason_n of_o his_o faith_n to_o every_o one_o that_o shall_v ask_v it_o how_o much_o more_o be_v he_o bind_v to_o this_o that_o he_o that_o end_n to_o bear_v witness_n unto_o the_o truth_n and_o four_a every_o one_o of_o the_o truth_n do_v hear_v his_o voice_n these_o be_v the_o four_o part_n of_o his_o confession_n it_o be_v not_o therefore_o without_o great_a cause_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n charge_v pastor_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n before_o he_o that_o witness_v this_o good_a confession_n before_o pontius_n pilate_n for_o it_o serve_v not_o only_o for_o example_n but_o likewise_o for_o great_a instruction_n
for_o we_o that_o be_v pastor_n to_o teach_v we_o what_o god_n require_v at_o our_o hand_n who_o witness_v a_o good_a confession_n say_v the_o apostle_n a_o better_a confession_n can_v none_o make_v nay_o this_o daunt_v the_o heart_n of_o feeble_a mind_a pastor_n they_o not_o dare_v to_o show_v forth_o their_o faithfulness_n to_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v the_o main_a point_n both_o in_o the_o confession_n of_o christ_n the_o prince_n of_o pastor_n and_o of_o all_o that_o shall_v succeed_v he_o to_o avouch_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n to_o be_v king_n for_o the_o world_n be_v content_a of_o any_o thing_n else_o that_o we_o can_v say_v of_o christ_n they_o will_v allow_v of_o his_o prophetical_a or_o priestly_a office_n christ_n but_o for_o he_o to_o rule_v and_o reign_v that_o they_o will_v not_o endure_v they_o will_v not_o have_v he_o to_o be_v king_n this_o it_o be_v no_o offence_n to_o cesar_n that_o christ_n be_v call_v a_o prophet_n or_o a_o priest_n by_o office_n but_o to_o call_v himself_o a_o king_n that_o bring_v he_o to_o his_o death_n cesar_n can_v not_o endure_v it_o so_o now_o a_o day_n king_n and_o prince_n will_v be_v content_a to_o have_v christ_n call_v by_o any_o name_n that_o can_v be_v give_v he_o beside_o this_o but_o you_o must_v not_o say_v he_o be_v a_o king_n the_o king_n of_o his_o church_n every_o magestrate_n now_o will_v be_v king_n himself_o of_o the_o church_n therefore_o the_o papist_n call_v the_o pope_n the_o king_n of_o the_o church_n and_o those_o likewise_o that_o have_v shake_v off_o the_o pope_n authority_n yet_o themselves_o will_v be_v lord_n in_o god_n house_n and_o if_o pastor_n will_v stand_v to_o maintain_v that_o there_o be_v no_o other_o king_n in_o the_o church_n but_o christ_n alone_o there_o be_v nothing_o under_o heaven_n which_o will_v more_o endanger_v his_o life_n than_o this_o and_o yet_o this_o be_v the_o confession_n we_o must_v stand_v unto_o under_o the_o pain_n of_o lose_v eternal_a life_n and_o this_o be_v that_o which_o christ_n lose_v his_o life_n for_o and_o for_o this_o we_o must_v be_v willing_a to_o lay_v down_o our_o life_n rather_o than_o to_o suffer_v any_o to_o be_v the_o king_n of_o saint_n but_o christ_n alone_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n call_v this_o a_o good_a confession_n objection_n but_o a_o man_n may_v ask_v i_o why_o this_o be_v call_v a_o good_a confession_n more_o than_o to_o have_v confess_v christ_n to_o be_v the_o only_a high_a priest_n ans_fw-fr and_o prophet_n of_o his_o church_n i_o answer_v that_o both_o these_o acknowledgement_n be_v good_a for_o we_o must_v not_o acknowledge_v any_o more_o high_a priest_n to_o reconcile_v we_o to_o god_n but_o christ_n alone_o and_o he_o be_v the_o only_a prophet_n of_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n for_o this_o and_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n that_o in_o the_o scripture_n of_o god_n this_o title_n be_v give_v to_o he_o more_o than_o any_o other_o title_n all_o the_o king_n of_o israel_n be_v but_o tip_n of_o he_o solomon_n be_v but_o a_o shadow_n of_o he_o therefore_o the_o scripture_n tell_v we_o that_o when_o the_o jew_n shall_v be_v gather_v might_n and_o dominion_n and_o every_o name_n that_o be_v name_v not_o only_o in_o this_o world_n but_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v and_o have_v put_v all_o thing_n under_o his_o foot_n and_o give_v he_o to_o be_v head_n over_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o church_n so_o the_o apostle_n conclude_v the_o greatness_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n by_o this_o that_o god_n have_v make_v he_o to_o those_o which_o be_v the_o former_a office_n to_o be_v prophet_n or_o priest_n in_o his_o church_n stand_v in_o the_o abase_v and_o humiliation_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n but_o in_o his_o kingly_a office_n stand_v his_o exaltation_n this_o be_v his_o dignity_n and_o royal_a prerogative_n he_o that_o meddle_v with_o it_o meddle_v with_o the_o chief_a dignity_n of_o christ_n furthermore_o as_o the_o servant_n or_o messenger_n of_o earthly_a king_n for_o the_o one_o be_v whole_o earthly_a &_o the_o other_o be_v whole_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a so_o that_o so_o far_o as_o heaven_n differ_v from_o earth_n so_o far_o differ_v christ_n kingdom_n from_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o earth_n his_o kingdom_n stand_v not_o in_o fleshly_a pomp_n but_o it_o stand_v whole_o in_o the_o spirit_n and_o power_n of_o it_o so_o this_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o second_o point_n of_o his_o confession_n to_o wit_n that_o his_o kingdom_n be_v not_o of_o this_o world_n the_o jew_n will_v have_v make_v christ_n a_o king_n but_o he_o refuse_v &_o as_o he_o be_v a_o king_n so_o he_o be_v constant_a to_o avouch_v the_o matter_n of_o his_o kingdom_n to_o be_v spiritual_a and_o not_o carnal_a why_o shall_v we_o that_o be_v his_o minister_n make_v his_o glory_n and_o his_o kingdom_n a_o worldly_a kingdom_n do_v we_o not_o thereby_o falsify_v god_n truth_n see_v our_o master_n refuse_v all_o carnal_a and_o worldly_a authority_n but_o only_o the_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n &_o why_o shall_v we_o seek_v after_o a_o carnal_a glory_n and_o pomp_n when_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o his_o kingdom_n be_v not_o of_o this_o world_n certain_o the_o less_o we_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o less_o we_o be_v like_a to_o man_n in_o worldly_a honour_n the_o more_o like_a we_o be_v to_o the_o son_n of_o god_n if_o we_o be_v clothe_v with_o grace_n with_o sanctification_n and_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n dwell_v in_o we_o plentiful_o this_o shall_v be_v our_o honour_n and_o thus_o we_o see_v how_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o place_v the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n in_o this_o wherein_o it_o stand_v certain_o all_o earthly_a power_n be_v so_o far_o from_o appertain_v to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n as_o that_o those_o that_o seek_v it_o walk_v not_o with_o a_o even_a foot_n in_o the_o ministry_n 4._o neither_o do_v he_o the_o part_n of_o a_o faithful_a minister_n the_o apostle_n have_v a_o strange_a say_n and_o yet_o a_o true_a one_o if_o our_o gospel_n be_v hide_v it_o be_v hide_v in_o they_o that_o perish_v who_o the_o god_n of_o this_o world_n have_v blind_v for_o we_o preach_v not_o ourselves_o but_o christ_n jesus_n the_o lord_n and_o ourselves_o your_o servant_n for_o christ_n sake_n and_o that_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o power_n may_v be_v of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n that_o all_o the_o world_n may_v see_v that_o the_o power_n of_o our_o ministry_n be_v not_o from_o ourselves_o that_o we_o shall_v force_v your_o conscience_n to_o submit_v unto_o the_o son_n of_o god_n for_o our_o ministry_n be_v whole_o spiritual_a as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o that_o all_o the_o weapon_n of_o our_o warfare_n be_v from_o god_n in_o heaven_n 10._o they_o be_v not_o carnal_a but_o mighty_a through_o god_n it_o be_v god_n that_o make_v the_o gospel_n powerful_a and_o that_o make_v the_o labour_n of_o mortal_a man_n powerful_a to_o subdue_v man_n to_o obedience_n thus_o to_o be_v brief_a the_o second_o point_n of_o christ_n confession_n be_v to_o disclaim_v his_o kingdom_n from_o be_v a_o worldly_a kingdom_n therefore_o we_o shall_v disclaim_v all_o worldly_a pomp_n and_o not_o compare_v christ_n to_o any_o worldly_a petty_a king_n for_o it_o be_v whole_o spiritual_a as_o the_o lord_n say_v to_o his_o people_n to_o comfort_v they_o against_o the_o egyptian_n he_o say_v the_o egyptian_n be_v flesh_n and_o not_o spirit_n as_o if_o he_o will_v say_v they_o be_v but_o flesh_n and_o therefore_o they_o can_v do_v nothing_o against_o the_o spirit_n the_o 3._o point_n of_o his_o confession_n be_v this_o that_o he_o come_v into_o the_o world_n and_o be_v bear_v to_o this_o end_n to_o bear_v witness_n of_o the_o truth_n wherefore_o this_o be_v to_o teach_v pastoure_n to_o follow_v his_o footstep_n and_o to_o know_v what_o be_v our_o call_n wherefore_o the_o lord_n have_v send_v we_o into_o this_o world_n which_o be_v to_o bear_v witness_n of_o the_o truth_n god_n have_v not_o send_v we_o into_o this_o world_n to_o bear_v witness_n unto_o a_o lie_n nor_o to_o justify_v any_o falsehood_n but_o to_o maintain_v the_o truth_n until_o death_n as_o christ_n avouch_v this_o to_o be_v his_o office_n and_o he_o do_v according_o so_o shall_v we_o that_o be_v pastor_n acknowledge_v this_o to_o be_v our_o office_n not_o to_o justify_v man_n lie_n but_o to_o bear_v witness_n and_o record_v to_o god_n truth_n so_o we_o see_v this_o afford_v great_a instruction_n for_o we_o to_o show_v we_o wherein_o our_o felicity_n stand_v especial_o in_o witness_v he_o to_o be_v our_o king_n and_o his_o kingdom_n not_o to_o be_v of_o this_o world_n thus_o the_o penitent_a thief_n do_v believe_v that_o he_o be_v a_o king_n and_o that_o his_o kingdom_n be_v not_o of_o this_o world_n therefore_o he_o beseech_v he_o to_o remember_v he_o when_o he_o come_v in_o his_o kingdom_n and_o that_o we_o be_v send_v of_o god_n to_o bear_v witness_n unto_o his_o truth_n and_o for_o this_o we_o be_v to_o lay_v down_o our_o life_n it_o be_v a_o woeful_a thing_n to_o
