The perswading or withdrawing the Subjects obedience from the King is Treason by Common-Law without controversie saith Sir Edward Cook in his said Book de Jur. Reg. Ecclesiastico fol. 38. a. It appears by the ancient Common-Laws of this Realme by the resolution and Judgement of the Judges and Sages of the Laws of England as by authority of many Acts of Parliaments ancient and of later times that the King is the onely supream governer as well over Ecclesiasticall Persons and in Ecclesiastical causes as Temporall within this Realm To the keeping of which Laws both the King and the Subjects are sworn Sir Edward Cook in the same Book fol. 40. b.
