A47734 An answer to a book, intituled, The state of the Protestants in Ireland under the late King James government in which, their carriage towards him is justified, and the absolute necessity of their endeavouring to be free'd from his government, and of submitting to their present Majesties, is demonstrated. as_o the_o worst_a of_o all_o people_n and_o howsoever_o they_o call_v themselves_o or_o be_v name_v of_o other_o yet_o be_v they_o indeed_o no_o true_a christian_n but_o worse_a than_o jew_n worse_o than_o heathen_n and_o such_o as_o shall_v never_o enjoy_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o the_o three_o homily_n speak_v in_o these_o word_n how_o horrible_a a_o sin_n against_o god_n and_o man_n rebellion_n be_v can_v possible_o be_v express_v according_a to_o the_o greatness_n thereof_o for_o he_o that_o name_v rebellion_n name_v not_o a_o singular_a or_o one_o only_a sin_n as_o be_v theft_n robbery_n murder_n and_o such_o like_a but_o he_o name_v the_o whole_a puddle_n and_o sink_v of_o all_o sin_n against_o god_n and_o man_n against_o his_o prince_n his_o country_n his_o countryman_n his_o parent_n his_o child_n his_o kinsfolk_n his_o friend_n and_o against_o all_o man_n universal_o all_o sin_n i_o say_v against_o god_n and_o all_o man_n heap_v together_o name_v he_o that_o name_v rebellion_n and_o beside_o the_o dishononor_n do_v by_o rebel_n unto_o god_n holy_a name_n by_o their_o break_n of_o their_o oath_n make_v to_o their_o prince_n with_o the_o attestation_n of_o god_n name_n and_o call_v of_o his_o majesty_n to_o witness_n and_o in_o the_o four_o homily_n have_v show_v the_o horrible_a destruction_n of_o corah_n dathan_n and_o abiram_n and_o other_o for_o their_o rebellion_n and_o murmur_n now_o say_v the_o homily_n if_o such_o strange_a and_o horrible_a plague_n do_v fall_v upon_o such_o subject_n as_o do_v only_o murmur_v and_o speak_v evil_a against_o their_o head_n what_o shall_v become_v of_o those_o most_o wicked_a imp_n of_o the_o devil_n that_o do_v conspire_v arm_v themselves_o allemble_n great_a number_n of_o arm_a rebel_n and_o lead_v they_o with_o they_o against_o their_o prince_n and_o country_n spoil_v and_o rob_v kill_v and_o murder_v all_o good_a subject_n that_o do_v withstand_v they_o as_o many_o as_o they_o may_v prevail_v against_o though_o not_o only_o great_a multitude_n of_o the_o rude_a and_o rascal_n commons_o but_o sometime_o also_o man_n of_o great_a wit_n nobility_n and_o authority_n have_v move_v rebellion_n against_o their_o lawful_a prince_n though_o they_o shall_v pretend_v sundry_a cause_n as_o the_o redress_n of_o the_o commwealth_n which_o rebellion_n of_o all_o other_o mischief_n do_v most_o destroy_v or_o reformation_n of_o religion_n whereas_o rebellion_n be_v most_o against_o all_o true_a religion_n though_o they_o have_v make_v a_o great_a show_n of_o holy_a mean_v by_o begin_v their_o rebellion_n with_o a_o counterfeit_n service_n of_o god_n as_o do_v wicked_a absalon_n begin_v his_o rebellion_n with_o sacrifice_v unto_o god_n yet_o neither_o the_o dignity_n of_o any_o person_n nor_o the_o multitude_n of_o any_o people_n nor_o the_o weight_n of_o any_o cause_n be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o which_o subject_n may_v move_v rebellion_n against_o their_o prince_n and_o for_o so_o much_o as_o the_o redress_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n have_v of_o old_a time_n be_v the_o usual_a feign_a pretence_n of_o rebel_n and_o religion_n now_o of_o late_o begin_v to_o be_v a_o colour_n of_o rebellion_n let_v all_o godly_a and_o discreet_a subject_n consider_v well_o of_o both_o and_o first_o concern_v religion_n what_o a_o religion_n it_o be_v that_o such_o man_n by_o such_o mean_n will_v restore_v may_v easy_o be_v judge_v even_o as_o good_a a_o religion_n sure_o as_o rebel_n be_v good_a man_n and_o obedient_a subject_n and_o as_o rebellion_n be_v a_o good_a mean_n of_o redress_n and_o reformation_n be_v itself_o the_o great_a deformation_n of_o all_o that_o may_v possible_o be_v but_o as_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n be_v quiet_o and_o sober_o teach_v though_o it_o do_v cost_v they_o their_o life_n that_o do_v teach_v it_o be_v able_a to_o maintain_v the_o true_a religion_n so_o have_v a_o frantic_a religion_n need_v of_o such_o furious_a maintainer_n as_o be_v rebellion_n and_o such_o patron_n as_o be_v rebel_n now_o concern_v pretence_n of_o any_o redress_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n make_v by_o rebel_n every_o man_n that_o have_v half_o a_o eye_n may_v see_v how_o vain_a they_o be_v rebellion_n be_v as_o i_o have_v before_o declare_v the_o grear_a ruin_n and_o destruction_n of_o all_o commonwealth_n that_o may_v be_v possible_a wherefore_o to_o conclude_v let_v all_o good_a subject_n consider_v how_o horrible_a a_o sin_n against_o god_n their_o prince_n their_o country_n their_o countryman_n against_o all_o god_n and_o man_n law_n rebellion_n be_v be_v indeed_o not_o one_o several_a sin_n but_o all_o sin_n against_o god_n and_o man_n heap_v together_o consider_v the_o mischievous_a life_n and_o deed_n and_o the_o shameful_a end_n and_o death_n of_o all_o rebel_n hitherto_o and_o the_o pitiful_a undo_n of_o their_o wife_n child_n and_o family_n and_o disinherit_n of_o their_o heir_n for_o ever_o and_o above_o all_o thing_n consider_v the_o eternal_a damnation_n that_o be_v prepare_v for_o all_o impenitent_a rebel_n in_o hell_n with_o satan_n the_o first_o founder_n of_o rebellion_n and_o grand_a captain_n of_o all_o rebel_n let_v all_o good_a subject_n i_o say_v consider_v these_o thing_n avoid_v and_o flee_v all_o rebellion_n as_o the_o great_a of_o all_o mischief_n and_o as_o the_o five_o homily_n end_n know_v these_o the_o special_a instrument_n and_o minister_n of_o the_o devil_n to_o the_o stir_v up_o of_o all_o rebellion_n avoid_v and_o flee_v they_o and_o the_o pestilent_a suggestion_n of_o such_o foreign_a usurper_n and_o their_o adherent_n and_o embrace_v all_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o their_o natural_a prince_n and_o sovereign_n etc._n etc._n these_o be_v the_o word_n of_o our_o homily_n which_o have_v much_o more_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n but_o i_o be_o afraid_a i_o have_v transgress_v upon_o your_o patience_n in_o repeat_v so_o much_o of_o they_o but_o i_o be_v in_o more_o than_o ordinary_a concern_v to_o see_v our_o author_n so_o grave_o vouch_v the_o homily_n on_o his_o side_n which_o may_v pass_v with_o those_o who_o have_v not_o consult_v they_o therefore_o forgive_v my_o insist_v so_o long_o upon_o they_o and_o i_o will_v not_o trouble_v you_o to_o apply_v all_o this_o to_o his_o hypothesis_n i_o shall_v reckon_v it_o a_o affront_n to_o your_o understanding_n to_o attempt_v it_o only_o i_o pray_v keep_v this_o with_o you_o that_o you_o know_v what_o stress_n to_o lay_v upon_o this_o author_n be_v confident_a vouch_v we_o be_v now_o come_v to_o our_o author_n be_v lesser_a quotation_n which_o may_v be_v spare_v for_o after_o examine_v what_o he_o offer_v from_o reason_n from_o scripture_n from_o the_o homily_n and_o public_a act_n of_o our_o church_n and_o from_o our_o act_n of_o parliament_n and_o the_o law_n what_o private_a writer_n can_v have_v authority_n to_o overbalance_n all_o these_o but_o if_o even_o those_o very_a author_n he_o quote_v either_o make_v nothing_o for_o he_o or_o make_v direct_o against_o he_o then_o we_o must_v suppose_v that_o he_o think_v his_o cause_n which_o i_o grant_v since_o a_o will_n to_o govern_v and_o to_o destroy_v can_v consist_v together_o therefore_o he_o who_o profess_v himself_o a_o enemy_n to_o a_o whole_a people_n do_v in_o that_o very_a act_n abdicate_v his_o kingdom_n but_o it_o seem_v hardly_o possible_a that_o this_o shall_v enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o king_n who_o be_v not_o mad_a if_o he_o govern_v only_o one_o people_n but_o if_o he_o govern_v many_o it_o may_v happen_v that_o in_o favour_n of_o one_o people_n he_o may_v desire_v the_o other_o be_v destroy_v
their_o free_a consent_n they_o will_v do_v what_o they_o promise_v without_o swear_v and_o if_o they_o do_v not_o all_o the_o oath_n in_o the_o world_n will_v not_o make_v they_o do_v augustus_n for_o this_o expect_v no_o allegiance_n from_o his_o subject_n or_o be_v not_o the_o eastern_a monarch_n pretty_a absolute_a because_o the_o law_n in_o those_o nation_n do_v not_o require_v oath_n but_o after_o all_o by_o the_o common_a law_n in_o england_n and_o ireland_n all_o above_o 16_o be_v to_o swear_v allegiance_n to_o the_o king_n and_o it_o may_v be_v exact_v from_o they_o in_o their_o leet_n and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n they_o give_v for_o impose_v the_o new_a oath_n in_o ireland_n to_o king_n william_n and_o queen_n mary_n before_o there_o be_v a_o act_n of_o parliament_n for_o it_o and_o therefore_o there_o be_v as_o much_o law_n of_o the_o land_n for_o swear_v of_o allegiance_n to_o k._n james_n in_o ireland_n after_o his_o repeal_n of_o the_o oath_n of_o supremacy_n as_o our_o author_n can_v pretend_v there_o be_v for_o swear_v to_o k._n william_n in_o ireland_n before_o the_o new_a act_n impose_v the_o oath_n there_o so_o that_o our_o author_n be_v out_o too_o in_o matter_n of_o law_n judge_n six_o reason_n in_o answer_n to_o the_o question_n who_o shall_v be_v judge_n but_o the_o main_a of_o the_o difficulty_n be_v yet_o behind_o and_o that_o be_v that_o upon_o our_o author_n scheme_n of_o dissolve_v oath_n and_o government_n for_o such_o reason_n as_o he_o think_v fit_a he_o have_v not_o tell_v we_o who_o shall_v be_v judge_n of_o these_o forfeiture_n or_o abdication_n this_o i_o have_v urge_v already_o but_o you_o have_v not_o hear_v our_o author_n answer_n he_o say_v c._n 2._o s_o 1._o n._n 2._o p._n 12._o it_o be_v common_o object_v who_o shall_v be_v judge_n and_o he_o resolve_v it_o thus_o that_o either_o the_o people_n must_v be_v leave_v to_o judge_v of_o the_o design_n of_o their_o governor_n or_o else_o they_o must_v be_v oblige_v to_o a_o blind_a and_o absolute_a submission_n without_o employ_v their_o understanding_n in_o the_o case_n thus_o our_o author_n like_o a_o mighty_a man_n yet_o this_o sophism_n be_v as_o poor_a a_o one_o as_o the_o last_o about_o the_o oath_n for_o in_o the_o case_n we_o be_v upon_o of_o determine_v a_o cause_n betwixt_o the_o government_n and_o the_o subject_n when_o we_o say_v who_o shall_v be_v judge_n the_o meaning_n be_v not_o who_o shall_v have_v power_n to_o think_v in_o his_o own_o mind_n we_o say_v thought_n be_v free_a and_o this_o sort_n of_o pass_a judgement_n or_o of_o be_v a_o judge_n can_v no_o more_o be_v take_v from_o any_o man_n than_o his_o power_n of_o think_v but_o when_o there_o be_v a_o contest_v betwixt_o king_n and_o people_n which_o be_v the_o case_n we_o be_v upon_o the_o question_n who_o shall_v be_v judge_n be_v who_o have_v authority_n to_o determine_v the_o cause_n betwixt_o they_o as_o a_o judge_n do_v between_o two_o contend_a party_n in_o which_o sense_n none_o can_v be_v a_o judge_n but_o he_o that_o have_v a_o commission_n from_o some_o who_o have_v power_n to_o invest_v he_o with_o that_o authority_n viz._n to_o judge_v betwixt_o king_n and_o people_n which_o none_o can_v have_v but_o god_n alone_o and_o to_o say_v that_o every_o man_n who_o be_v not_o such_o a_o judge_n as_o this_o have_v not_o leave_v to_o employ_v his_o understanding_n in_o the_o case_n because_o he_o have_v not_o power_n authoritative_o to_o determine_v the_o case_n so_o as_o to_o oblige_v and_o tie_v up_o the_o contend_a party_n be_v what_o this_o author_n will_v sly_o pass_v upon_o you_o undiscovered_a but_o it_o be_v too_o plain_a to_o bear_v a_o argument_n well_o then_o the_o question_n be_v concern_v a_o authoritative_a judge_n and_o our_o author_n proceed_v i_o dare_v appeal_n say_v he_o to_o all_o the_o world_n whether_o it_o be_v safe_a to_o leave_v it_o to_o the_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n of_o a_o whole_a kingdom_n to_o determine_v concern_v the_o design_n of_o their_o governor_n or_o to_o leave_v it_o to_o the_o will_n and_o conscience_n of_o the_o king_n whether_o he_o will_v destroy_v they_o one_o of_o these_o be_v unavoidable_a and_o i_o be_o assure_v it_o be_v less_o probable_a that_o the_o generality_n of_o a_o kingdom_n will_v concur_v in_o a_o mistake_n of_o this_o nature_n and_o less_o mischievous_a if_o they_o shall_v mistake_v than_o that_o a_o king_n by_o weakness_n wicked_a councillor_n or_o false_a principle_n shall_v design_n to_o make_v his_o people_n slave_n subvert_v the_o ancient_a government_n or_o destroy_v one_o part_n of_o his_o people_n who_o he_o hate_v in_o favour_n of_o another_o thus_o our_o author_n and_o the_o case_n be_v plausible_o lay_v down_o and_o no_o doubt_n will_v gain_v the_o cry_n at_o a_o election_n but_o there_o be_v another_o prospect_n of_o this_o case_n which_o our_o author_n take_v care_n to_o conceal_v and_o that_o be_v what_o if_o a_o cunning_a and_o design_v incendiary_n make_v a_o party_n and_o prevail_v universal_o among_o the_o people_n and_o persuade_v they_o to_o their_o own_o destruction_n misrepresent_v their_o governor_n and_o impose_v upon_o they_o that_o a_o civil_a war_n be_v better_a and_o by_o this_o mean_n get_v they_o to_o destroy_v and_o consume_v one_o another_o thus_o do_v absalon_n thus_o do_v sheba_n thus_o oliver_n and_o all_o the_o prosperon_n rebel_n there_o be_v no_o other_o way_n of_o move_v the_o people_n unless_o you_o can_v bring_v they_o all_o to_o a_o fair_a vote_n which_o be_v only_o impossible_a at_o least_o it_o be_v never_o do_v and_o therefore_o we_o just_o may_v suppose_v it_o never_o will_v be_v let_v we_o leave_v these_o dispute_n in_o the_o cloud_n and_o bring_v this_o author_n to_o matter_n of_o fact_n be_v not_o all_o revolution_n carry_v on_o by_o make_v party_n combination_n of_o leading-man_n asperse_v your_o opposite_n use_v all_o art_n to_o byass_n the_o mob_n to_o your_o side_n do_v ever_o any_o in_o such_o case_n speak_v nothing_o but_o the_o honest_a truth_n of_o the_o governor_n against_o who_o they_o take_v arm_n do_v they_o leave_v it_o free_o and_o impartial_o to_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o people_n without_o any_o misrepresentation_n or_o invidious_a insinuation_n and_o be_v it_o equal_a to_o they_o whether_o the_o people_n upon_o a_o fair_a hear_v determine_v against_o they_o as_o rebel_n or_o for_o they_o as_o patriot_n can_v there_o be_v a_o method_n for_o the_o people_n to_o have_v such_o a_o fair_a hear_v of_o the_o cause_n and_o to_o determine_v it_o judicial_o if_o our_o author_n can_v say_v that_o any_o of_o these_o thing_n have_v be_v or_o be_v ever_o likely_a to_o be_v do_v he_o must_v consequence_n which_o fill_v up_o his_o appendix_n but_o we_o have_v it_o print_v in_o one_o of_o the_o late_a irish_a protestant_n pamphlet_n call_v a_o apology_n for_o the_o protestant_n of_o ireland_n etc._n etc._n and_o i_o have_v annex_v it_o to_o this_o that_o you_o may_v see_v it_o the_o author_n call_v the_o except_a person_n twelve_o whereas_o in_o the_o proclamation_n there_o be_v but_o ten._n i_o lay_v no_o great_a stress_n upon_o that_o difference_n of_o number_n it_o will_v not_o enhance_v the_o matter_n much_o but_o it_o show_v that_o the_o author_n have_v not_o be_v so_o exact_a in_o his_o voucher_n as_o he_o ought_v of_o which_o or_o something_o worse_o it_o be_v a_o much_o great_a proof_n that_o in_o recite_v the_o cause_n which_o that_o proclamation_n name_v for_o the_o descent_n of_o that_o army_n he_o do_v not_o keep_v to_o the_o word_n of_o the_o proclamation_n which_o instance_n particular_n this_o author_n can_v not_o deny_v as_o break_v of_o prison_n discharge_v of_o prisoner_n seize_v upon_o his_o majesty_n arm_n and_o ammunition_n imprison_v several_a of_o his_o majesty_n army_n disarm_v and_o dismount_v they_o etc._n etc._n but_o the_o author_n wise_o avoid_v name_v any_o of_o these_o lest_o he_o shall_v be_v oblige_v to_o disprove_v they_o only_o say_v in_o general_a as_o you_o have_v hear_v that_o the_o proclamation_n charge_v they_o with_o rebellion_n kill_v plunder_v etc._n etc._n which_o he_o manful_o deny_v every_o word_n of_o it_o therefore_o let_v we_o fair_o examine_v what_o i_o have_v before_o quote_v our_o of_o he_o and_o that_o we_o may_v fix_v his_o loose_a and_o artificial_a way_n of_o deal_v in_o general_n slide_v unperceivable_o from_o one_o matter_n to_o another_o and_o huddliug_v many_o thing_n together_o to_o distract_v the_o reader_n i_o will_v reduce_v his_o charge_n to_o these_o head_n first_o that_o before_o the_o descent_n of_o the_o army_n with_o who_o come_v the_o proclamation_n date_v the_o seven_o of_o march_n 1688._o the_o lord_n deputy_n do_v not_o so_o much_o as_o summon_v the_o associator_n in_o ulster_n second_o i_o will_v examine_v who_o those_o great_a robber_n be_v in_o the_o north_n who_o plunder_v the_o protestant_n there_o and_o three_o we_o will_v see_v whether_o the_o northern_a associator_n give_v no_o other_o provocation_n to_o the_o government_n than_o to_o defend_v themselves_o against_o these_o robber_n for_o the_o first_o we_o be_v furnish_v with_o a_o confutation_n of_o he_o from_o the_o very_a proclamation_n he_o quote_v viz._n that_o of_o the_o seven_o of_o march_v 1688._o which_o mention_n a_o former_a proclamation_n require_v the_o associator_n to_o disperse_v and_o promise_v they_o pardon_n there_o be_v one_o of_o this_o nature_n i_o know_v not_o if_o there_o be_v any_o more_o date_v the_o 25_o of_o january_n 1688._o which_o be_v sign_v by_o several_a protestant_n of_o the_o council_n as_o the_o earl_n of_o granard_n lord_n chief_a justice_n kete_v etc._n etc._n beside_o this_o mr._n osborn_n be_v send_v down_o to_o the_o north_n by_o my_o lord_n deputy_n before_o the_o march_n of_o the_o army_n to_o use_v all_o persuasion_n to_o they_o to_o lay_v down_o their_o arm_n to_o tell_v they_o the_o very_a day_n the_o army_n will_v march_v and_o he_o keep_v it_o that_o though_o ten_o be_v except_v in_o the_o proclamation_n yet_o he_o will_v insist_v but_o upon_o three_o and_o if_o it_o shall_v appear_v that_o they_o take_v up_o arm_n mere_o for_o self-preservation_n than_o he_o will_v pardon_v even_o the_o say_v three_o person_n also_o that_o he_o demand_v no_o more_o of_o they_o than_o to_o deliver_v up_o their_o arm_n and_o serviceable_a horse_n as_o you_o may_v see_v in_o mr_n osborn_n letter_n to_o the_o lord_n mazereene_a of_o the_o 9th_o of_o march_n 1688._o which_o i_o have_v take_v out_o of_o the_o abovesaid_a apology_n for_o the_o protestant_n in_o ireland_n and_o affix_v to_o this_o n._n 3._o add_v to_o this_o the_o offer_n which_o my_o lord_n deputy_n send_v to_o the_o gentleman_n in_o the_o north_n by_o sir_n robert_n colvill_n viz._n that_o if_o his_o countryman_n will_v continue_v quiet_a in_o their_o respective_a habitation_n they_o shall_v be_v only_o charge_v with_o the_o encumbrance_n of_o two_o regiment_n this_o be_v tell_v in_o the_o faithful_a history_n p._n 10._o and_o this_o be_v long_o before_o the_o march_n of_o that_o army_n to_o the_o north._n i_o have_v hear_v of_o several_a other_o message_n and_o even_a art_n that_o my_o lord_n tyrconnel_n use_v to_o quiet_a the_o disturbance_n in_o the_o north_n of_o which_o he_o be_v at_o the_o beginning_n very_o apprehensive_a and_o use_v his_o utmost_a endeavour_n to_o appease_v they_o as_o all_o the_o account_n the_o irish_a protestant_n have_v print_v here_o do_v with_o one_o consent_n declare_v and_o i_o have_v hear_v some_o of_o they_o say_v that_o they_o dread_v nothing_o so_o much_o as_o that_o tyrconnel_n dare_v not_o send_v a_o army_n against_o they_o and_o that_o the_o irish_a will_v submit_v without_o any_o opposition_n and_o so_o they_o will_v get_v no_o forfeiture_n so_o much_o they_o overvalue_v and_o their_o enemy_n fear_v the_o strength_n of_o the_o north_n though_o both_o live_v to_o see_v themselves_o mistake_v let_v this_o suffice_v as_o to_o the_o first_o point_n viz._n that_o my_o lord_n tyrconnel_n do_v not_o forget_v to_o summon_v the_o north_n before_o he_o send_v down_o the_o army_n against_o they_o in_o march_n 1688._o if_o repeat_v proclamation_n and_o message_n may_v be_v call_v summons_n as_o to_o the_o second_o of_o the_o great_a robber_n in_o the_o north._n we_o do_v not_o speak_v now_o of_o the_o common_a robbery_n of_o high-way-man_n that_o have_v always_o be_v and_o will_v be_v in_o all_o country_n more_o or_o less_o but_o of_o such_o arm_a band_n of_o robber_n as_o force_v the_o whole_a north_n to_o arm_n and_o regiment_n themselves_o and_o enter_v into_o association_n and_o confederacy_n and_o a_o formal_a war_n to_o defend_v themselves_o against_o these_o robber_n who_o he_o say_v be_v man_n entrust_v by_o the_o lord_n deputy_n with_o arm_n and_o employment_n so_o not_o common_a robber_n and_o by_o the_o account_n of_o all_o that_o come_v from_o the_o north_n this_o be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v true_a that_o the_o irish_a there_o be_v in_o mortal_a fear_n of_o the_o protestant_n and_o common_o dare_v not_o sleep_v in_o their_o house_n but_o lay_v abroad_o in_o the_o field_n lest_o they_o shall_v fall_v upon_o they_o no_o irish_a be_v suffer_v to_o live_v in_o the_o country_n who_o do_v not_o take_v out_o protection_n from_o such_o of_o the_o protestant_a gentry_n as_o be_v allow_v by_o the_o associator_n to_o grant_v such_o protection_n nor_o dare_v they_o travel_v from_o their_o own_o house_n without_o pass_n the_o protestant_n make_v they_o contribute_v equal_o at_o least_o with_o themselves_o in_o all_o their_o new_a levy_n and_o force_v they_o to_o work_v upon_o their_o new_a fortification_n at_o their_o pleasure_n which_o they_o do_v without_o grudge_v and_o any_o thing_n to_o please_v those_o who_o be_v absolute_o their_o master_n and_o in_o who_o hand_n they_o reckon_v their_o life_n to_o lie_v every_o moment_n and_o many_o insult_v and_o threaten_n they_o bear_v from_o the_o commonality_n of_o the_o protestant_n who_o make_v full_a use_n of_o their_o find_a themselves_o at_o liberty_n from_o all_o government_n and_o to_o domineer_v over_o those_o who_o be_v entire_o at_o their_o mercy_n the_o faithful_a history_n p._n 9_o say_v amid_o those_o convulsion_n robbery_n in_o other_o part_n the_o north_n only_o remain_v undisturbed_a our_o author_n himself_o in_o what_o i_o have_v already_o quote_v say_v plain_o that_o the_o protestant_n keep_v the_o whole_a country_n within_o their_o association_n from_o be_v pillage_v where_o then_o be_v these_o great_a robbery_n he_o speak_v of_o he_o may_v say_v in_o other_o part_n of_o ireland_n but_o that_o be_v not_o our_o present_a subject_n but_o only_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o north._n and_o the_o author_n place_v the_o scene_n there_o when_o he_o say_v that_o they_o the_o gentleman_n in_o the_o north_n do_v not_o attempt_v any_o thing_n upon_o these_o arm_a robber_n except_o in_o their_o own_o defence_n when_o invade_v and_o assault_v by_o they_o nor_o kill_v any_o but_o who_o they_o find_v actual_o rob_v so_o that_o all_o this_o must_v be_v in_o the_o north_n where_o many_o witness_n attest_v and_o the_o
