corruption_n and_o so_o make_v some_o application_n of_o it_o first_o then_o in_o what_o respect_n the_o remain_a part_n of_o sin_n and_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o corruption_n that_o they_o find_v in_o they_o it_o be_v as_o lead_v and_o lie_v heavy_a upon_o their_o spirit_n in_o regard_n of_o grief_n it_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o their_o grief_n and_o trouble_n some_o will_v say_v perhaps_o sometime_o to_o other_o such_o and_o such_o that_o be_v professor_n of_o religion_n they_o go_v very_o sad_o and_o heavy_o and_o when_o once_o you_o come_v to_o be_v so_o strict_a in_o your_o way_n you_o will_v loose_v all_o your_o comfort_n for_o such_o and_o such_o be_v always_o sad_a and_o pensive_a but_o do_v you_o know_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o their_o sadness_n you_o have_v as_o much_o cause_n to_o be_v sad_a as_o they_o the_o burden_n be_v not_o because_o they_o be_v religious_a but_o because_o they_o be_v no_o more_o religious_a not_o because_o now_o they_o do_v more_o duty_n than_o they_o do_v before_o but_o because_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n come_v up_o to_o their_o duty_n as_o they_o will_v do_v not_o attribute_n their_o grief_n to_o their_o godliness_n but_o rather_o say_v to_o thyself_o thus_o if_o they_o that_o do_v so_o much_o for_o god_n be_v yet_o so_o much_o trouble_v and_o grieve_v because_o they_o do_v no_o more_o for_o god_n how_o much_o cause_n of_o trouble_n and_o grief_n have_v i_o then_o that_o do_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o god_n the_o second_o burden_n of_o corruption_n second_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n of_o shame_n grief_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o shame_n be_v a_o burden_n many_o that_o can_v bear_v great_a burden_n that_o can_v bear_v the_o burden_n of_o poverty_n yet_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o burden_n of_o disgrace_n especial_o to_o those_o that_o be_v most_o ingenious_a it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a burden_n in_o the_o world_n now_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o they_o they_o account_v it_o a_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o his_o bless_a angel_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o themselves_o what_o they_o know_v of_o themselves_o that_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o they_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o ashame_n that_o they_o do_v even_o loath_a and_o abhor_v themselves_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v it_o may_v be_v their_o life_n be_v such_o as_o other_o do_v honour_n and_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o they_o but_o they_o be_v acquaint_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o look_v into_o the_o secret_a work_n of_o their_o own_o spirit_n they_o see_v so_o much_o evil_n there_o as_o they_o see_v much_o cause_n to_o abhor_v and_o loathe_v themselves_o and_o to_o lie_v down_o in_o their_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n who_o they_o know_v do_v see_v into_o their_o heart_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o they_o can_v see_v themselves_o i_o will_v appeal_v to_o any_o one_o that_o know_v his_o own_o heart_n if_o god_n shall_v open_v your_o heart_n and_o make_v it_o know_v to_o your_o friend_n and_o acquaintance_n so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n in_o the_o perform_n of_o one_o duty_n if_o all_o man_n shall_v know_v so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n at_o one_o time_n in_o prayer_n or_o hear_v a_o sermon_n will_v you_o not_o be_v ashamed_a now_o god_n know_v and_o see_v all_o the_o baseness_n and_o vildness_n of_o your_o spirit_n and_o the_o godly_a know_v this_o they_o can_v but_o be_v ashamed_a and_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o shame_n with_o heavy_a heart_n the_o three_o burden_n of_o corruption_n three_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o godly_a it_o carry_v with_o it_o a_o burden_n of_o fear_n fear_v you_o know_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n as_o well_o as_o grief_n and_o shame_n though_o the_o evil_n be_v not_o so_o great_a upon_o they_o yet_o if_o their_o be_v a_o evil_n apprehend_v to_o come_v upon_o they_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o as_o those_o that_o dare_v not_o go_v out_o of_o door_n in_o the_o night_n because_o of_o fear_n or_o dare_v not_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a because_o of_o fear_n when_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o their_o fear_n do_v they_o not_o account_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n now_o the_o godly_a they_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o fear_n upon_o their_o heart_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v those_o that_o be_v godly_a they_o fear_v more_o what_o their_o own_o evil_a heart_n shall_v bring_v upon_o they_o than_o what_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n and_o all_o the_o creature_n in_o the_o world_n can_v bring_v upon_o they_o and_o that_o be_v a_o good_a fear_n but_o yet_o it_o make_v they_o walk_v heavy_o other_o fear_v sometime_o they_o fear_v man_n fear_v those_o that_o will_v come_v and_o take_v away_o their_o estate_n and_o undo_v they_o fear_v their_o enemy_n or_o fear_v the_o devil_n but_o one_o that_o be_v godly_a he_o fear_v more_o his_o own_o heart_n the_o evil_a that_o may_v come_v to_o his_o soul_n by_o that_o than_o all_o the_o hurt_n that_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n can_v do_v to_o he_o for_o they_o can_v afflict_v more_o than_o the_o body_n i_o but_o this_o bring_v a_o evil_a upon_o the_o soul_n it_o break_v their_o communion_n between_o they_o and_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v afraid_a of_o sin_n before_o it_o come_v they_o have_v experience_n of_o their_o heart_n what_o evil_a it_o have_v do_v to_o they_o and_o so_o be_v afraid_a of_o miscarry_v and_o afraid_a of_o the_o evil_a consequence_n of_o their_o sin_n they_o do_v not_o know_v what_o mischief_n their_o sin_n may_v possible_o bring_v upon_o they_o and_o so_o they_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o fear_n along_o time_n together_o even_o those_o that_o be_v true_o godly_a the_o four_o burden_n of_o corruption_n four_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o burden_n of_o care_n for_o man_n and_o woman_n to_o be_v always_o careful_a to_o be_v full_a of_o care_n you_o know_v that_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n that_o many_o of_o you_o be_v acquaint_v with_o that_o when_o you_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o business_n upon_o you_o and_o much_o lie_v upon_o you_o when_o your_o thought_n be_v full_a of_o care_n be_v it_o not_o a_o great_a burden_n to_o you_o many_o man_n that_o have_v be_v full_a of_o business_n and_o afterward_o have_v get_v over_o their_o business_n what_o a_o freedom_n do_v they_o account_v it_o the_o saint_n they_o have_v a_o burden_n of_o care_n upon_o they_o because_o they_o find_v so_o much_o to_o do_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n that_o they_o have_v need_n be_v watchful_a night_n and_o day_n over_o they_o they_o have_v have_v experience_n what_o their_o heart_n have_v do_v when_o there_o have_v not_o be_v a_o strict_a watch_n over_o â—hem_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o child_n of_o god_n but_o if_o he_o be_v in_o a_o right_a temper_n he_o be_v a_o careful_a man_n so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v in_o this_o flesh_n our_o condition_n be_v full_a of_o fear_n and_o so_o we_o must_v need_v be_v full_a of_o care_n in_o this_o world_n though_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o distract_n care_n that_o wicked_a man_n have_v about_o their_o outward_a estate_n and_o the_o care_n of_o the_o godly_a about_o keep_v their_o
acknowledge_v that_o it_o be_v through_o grace_n that_o he_o have_v but_o somewhat_o which_o god_n work_v through_o he_o that_o be_v the_o most_o natural_a to_o a_o rational_a creature_n to_o rest_v upon_o somewhat_o that_o he_o do_v to_o make_v up_o his_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o to_o be_v his_o righteousness_n before_o god_n and_o it_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o god_n to_o beat_v off_o the_o heart_n from_o this_o especial_o the_o heart_n come_v thus_o far_o to_o say_v it_o be_v true_a i_o can_v do_v nothing_o of_o myself_o but_o it_o be_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n that_o i_o do_v all_o now_o for_o the_o heart_n not_o to_o rest_v upon_o this_o as_o its_o own_o righteousness_n this_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o although_o man_n may_v be_v convince_v in_o their_o judgement_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o rest_v in_o any_o such_o thing_n but_o go_v out_o of_o themselves_o to_o another_o principle_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o hard_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v off_o from_o it_o and_o it_o be_v that_o make_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n the_o most_o difficult_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n because_o it_o carry_v the_o soul_n out_o of_o itself_o from_o its_o own_o bottom_n from_o its_o own_o principle_n and_o the_o mistake_n of_o this_o thing_n be_v that_o that_o be_v the_o undo_n of_o thousand_o of_o those_o that_o live_v under_o the_o sound_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o when_o they_o have_v somewhat_o reform_v their_o life_n and_o think_v they_o be_v able_a to_o do_v thus_o and_o thus_o yet_o here_o they_o rest_n and_o go_v not_o out_o of_o themselves_o to_o look_v for_o rest_n out_o of_o themselves_o and_o do_v not_o come_v to_o christ_n quest_n you_o will_v say_v what_o not_o rest_n upon_o what_o we_o do_v and_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v upon_o god_n grace_n faith_n itself_o be_v a_o rest_v upon_o christ_n ans_fw-fr no_o but_o this_o you_o must_v observe_v in_o your_o come_n you_o must_v not_o rest_v upon_o your_o come_n but_o upon_o christ_n that_o you_o come_v unto_o for_o their_o may_v be_v a_o deceit_n in_o that_o too_o there_o be_v some_o that_o rest_n upon_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourn_v for_o sin_n reform_v their_o life_n and_o they_o think_v that_o be_v their_o rest_n and_o peace_n other_o go_v further_o and_o think_v they_o must_v believe_v in_o christ_n but_o they_o will_v rest_v upon_o their_o believe_a so_o they_o rest_v upon_o their_o come_n and_o not_o upon_o the_o object_n that_o they_o come_v unto_o but_o we_o must_v be_v take_v off_o from_o rest_v upon_o our_o come_n upon_o our_o very_a believe_a and_o christ_n must_v be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o have_v true_a rest_n in_o therefore_o faith_n be_v a_o supernatural_a grace_n because_o by_o that_o we_o be_v take_v off_o from_o what_o we_o be_v in_o ourselves_o and_o carry_v on_o to_o somewhat_o else_o 6._o upon_o this_o follow_v likewise_o that_o faith_n be_v a_o humble_v grace_n it_o be_v that_o that_o must_v needs_o humble_a the_o soul_n where_o it_o be_v for_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o great_a self_n denial_n in_o the_o world_n for_o a_o creature_n to_o come_v to_o be_v willing_a to_o rely_v upon_o free_a grace_n for_o the_o soul_n to_o be_v so_o empty_v of_o itself_o as_o to_o acknowledge_v there_o be_v no_o worthiness_n no_o good_a at_o all_o in_o itself_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v content_a to_o live_v eternal_o upon_o mere_a alm_n and_o to_o give_v god_n the_o glory_n of_o al._n be_v there_o any_o thing_n more_o hard_a to_o any_o of_o you_o then_o to_o live_v to_o be_v beggar_n all_o your_o day_n to_o be_v behold_v to_o other_o so_o as_o to_o live_v upon_o mere_a alm_n and_o nothing_o else_o all_o the_o day_n of_o your_o life_n now_o for_o the_o creature_n to_o be_v so_o empty_v of_o itself_o as_o to_o live_v upon_o mere_a alm_n to_o all_o eternity_n upon_o nothing_o but_o mere_a free_a grace_n and_o upon_o a_o principle_n of_o life_n without_o ourselves_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a work_n of_o empty_v of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o self_n denial_n and_o therefore_o in_o rom._n 10.3_o it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o jew_n for_o they_o be_v ignorant_a of_o god_n righteousness_n and_o go_v about_o to_o establish_v their_o own_o righteousness_n have_v not_o submit_v themselves_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n this_o plain_o show_v that_o the_o bring_v the_o heart_n to_o rest_v upon_o the_o righteousness_n that_o be_v of_o god_n by_o faith_n for_o that_o be_v mean_v here_o require_v a_o submission_n of_o the_o heart_n a_o lay_v down_o the_o heart_n and_o a_o humble_v of_o the_o heart_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o very_a ground_n why_o the_o lord_n do_v so_o humble_a the_o spirit_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n when_o he_o bring_v they_o to_o christ_n because_o that_o the_o lord_n know_v that_o the_o very_a act_n the_o come_n to_o christ_n be_v a_o act_n of_o the_o great_a self_n denial_n in_o the_o world_n because_o the_o heart_n must_v be_v empty_v of_o itself_o in_o that_o that_o be_v so_o much_o against_o the_o pride_n of_o man_n heart_n to_o live_v eternal_o upon_o mere_a free_a grace_n and_o nothing_o else_o for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o man_n do_v more_o desire_n then_o to_o have_v somewhat_o some_o stock_n of_o himself_o to_o live_v upon_o and_o indeed_o herein_o man_n come_v to_o be_v more_o humble_a than_o adam_n in_o innocency_n can_v be_v for_o adam_n have_v a_o stock_n to_o live_v upon_o in_o his_o own_o hand_n to_o live_v upon_o in_o himself_o not_o but_o god_n be_v the_o principle_n of_o it_o but_o then_o god_n give_v it_o he_o to_o live_v upon_o the_o stock_n of_o grace_n he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o hand_n but_o now_o in_o the_o second_o adam_n the_o way_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o be_v otherwise_o the_o second_o adam_n keep_v the_o stock_n of_o life_n and_o grace_n upon_o which_o our_o soul_n must_v live_v eternal_o in_o his_o own_o hand_n i_o say_v they_o be_v in_o christ_n hand_n not_o in_o ourselves_o and_o therefore_o our_o life_n be_v a_o better_a and_o safe_a life_n then_o that_o be_v and_o thereby_o we_o can_v fall_v from_o god_n because_o we_o live_v by_o the_o principle_n of_o life_n that_o be_v in_o he_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mystery_n and_o almost_o impossible_a to_o unfold_v only_o some_o glimmer_n we_o have_v in_o the_o word_n that_o this_o be_v so_o 7._o if_o there_o be_v nothing_o require_v but_o to_o come_v than_o another_o consequence_n will_v follow_v from_o hence_o and_o that_o be_v this_o hence_o then_o believer_n that_o come_v to_o christ_n may_v learn_v this_o lesson_n to_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v and_o to_o suffer_v very_o much_o for_o christ_n after_o they_o come_v because_o there_o be_v nothing_o require_v of_o they_o to_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n but_o only_o to_o come_v i_o strengthen_v the_o inference_n thus_o if_o god_n have_v say_v thus_o indeed_o i_o have_v send_v a_o mediator_n to_o pacify_v my_o wrath_n and_o to_o pardon_v your_o sin_n and_o before_o you_o come_v to_o rest_n i_o require_v that_o you_o shall_v suffer_v so_o many_o hundred_o year_n of_o torment_n in_o fire_n and_o that_o shall_v be_v a_o preparation_n to_o come_v and_o then_o after_o you_o have_v suffer_v so_o much_o than_o you_o shall_v come_v and_o have_v rest_n suppose_v this_o have_v be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n now_o have_v it_o be_v so_o we_o have_v all_o have_v cause_n to_o have_v fall_v upon_o our_o face_n and_o have_v blessed_v his_o great_a name_n that_o we_o can_v have_v peace_n on_o any_o term_n and_o we_o shall_v have_v be_v not_o only_o willing_a to_o accept_v of_o these_o term_n but_o to_o magnify_v god_n grace_n that_o we_o can_v be_v thus_o save_v at_o last_o but_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o require_v that_o first_o we_o shall_v suffer_v such_o and_o such_o hard_a thing_n and_o then_o come_v to_o christ_n but_o he_o call_v upon_o we_o first_o to_o come_v and_o require_v nothing_o before_o and_o therefore_o before_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o lord_n any_o service_n the_o lord_n will_v first_o accept_v of_o we_o and_o pardon_v we_o and_o heal_v we_o and_o interest_n we_o in_o himself_o and_o be_v our_o god_n and_o take_v we_o to_o be_v his_o child_n and_o make_v we_o heir_n of_o heaven_n and_o eternal_a life_n &_o this_o at_o first_o before_o we_o shall_v ever_o be_v able_a to_o do_v he_o any_o service_n what_o a_o infinite_a grace_n of_o god_n be_v this_o how_o be_v he_o beforehand_o with_o we_o for_o he_o call_v to_o the_o great_a sinner_n that_o know_v what_o his_o sin_n be_v and_o be_v lade_v say_v god_n i_o require_v nothing_o before_o the_o receive_n you_o to_o mercy_n but_o mere_o to_o

go_v a_o journey_n and_o know_v the_o end_n of_o his_o journey_n shall_v be_v very_o glorious_a to_o he_o if_o it_o be_v to_o receive_v a_o crown_n a_o kingdom_n though_o it_o be_v a_o boisterous_a day_n and_o stormy_a weather_n and_o the_o way_n be_v very_o foul_a he_o will_v not_o be_v trouble_v at_o it_o but_o he_o will_v account_v it_o very_o comfortable_a to_o know_v that_o he_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o eternal_a life_n but_o thou_o be_v in_o eternal_a life_n itself_o not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n to_o the_o kingdom_n but_o in_o the_o kingdom_n not_o only_o in_o the_o way_n to_o eternal_a life_n thou_o do_v live_v whilst_o thou_o be_v in_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n what_o be_v the_o happiness_n of_o heaven_n but_o for_o the_o saint_n and_o angel_n to_o be_v exercise_v in_o magnify_v the_o riches_n of_o god_n and_o of_o christ_n now_o thou_o begin_v it_o here_o and_o therefore_o if_o thou_o know_v what_o this_o be_v thou_o be_v not_o i_o say_v to_o look_v upon_o any_o duty_n that_o thou_o perform_v mere_o as_o a_o duty_n but_o thou_o be_v to_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o privilege_n yea_o as_o part_n of_o thy_o wage_n that_o be_v a_o certain_a truth_n that_o god_n work_n it_o be_v wage_n and_o the_o improve_n of_o that_o principle_n will_v help_v we_o very_o much_o in_o our_o christian_a course_n if_o thou_o do_v live_v and_o account_v every_o duty_n that_o thou_o perform_v to_o god_n to_o be_v wage_n oh_o with_o what_o sweetness_n will_v thou_o go_v on_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o those_o duty_n that_o god_n require_v of_o thou_o thou_o be_v receive_v thy_o wage_n when_o thou_o be_v perform_v of_o duty_n in_o rom._n 6._o and_o the_o last_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n but_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v eternal_a life_n through_o jesus_n christ_n at_o the_o 22._o verse_n it_o be_v thus_o but_o now_o be_v free_v from_o sin_n and_o become_v servant_n unto_o god_n you_o have_v your_o fruit_n unto_o holiness_n and_o the_o end_n everlasting_a life_n for_o the_o wage_n of_o sin_n be_v death_n but_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n be_v eternal_a life_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n you_o have_v your_o fruit_n unto_o holiness_n that_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n it_o be_v the_o begin_n of_o eternal_a life_n here_o in_o this_o world_n then_o indeed_o be_v a_o christian_n well_o improve_v in_o evangelical_n obedience_n when_o he_o do_v account_v duty_n to_o be_v mercy_n and_o when_o mercy_n be_v turn_v into_o duty_n as_o when_o we_o turn_v god_n mercy_n into_o duty_n that_o be_v a_o argument_n we_o receive_v god_n mercy_n from_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o there_o will_v be_v link_n of_o god_n mercy_n towards_o
