be_v governor_n because_o sometime_o the_o people_n or_o govern_v be_v real_o take_v on_o they_o to_o act_v their_o own_o will_n as_o chief_a but_o also_o suppose_v the_o government_n in_o the_o senate_n it_o will_v be_v still_o as_o hard_o so_o to_o fix_v it_o there_o as_o to_o make_v it_o to_o be_v government_n for_o in_o that_o fancy_a equality_n which_o they_o have_v in_o power_n to_o one_o another_o who_o shall_v be_v superior_a and_o if_o the_o person_n in_o the_o major_a vote_n be_v sovereign_n and_o the_o lesser_a vote_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o people_n subject_n who_o shall_v then_o be_v sovereign_n when_o these_o major_a voter_n come_v by_o variety_n of_o occasion_n to_o be_v many_o of_o they_o on_o the_o minor_a side_n will_v not_o this_o render_v both_o they_o the_o which_o although_o they_o be_v of_o another_o religion_n and_o jurisdiction_n too_o be_v yet_o rebuke_v by_o our_o saviour_n as_o proceed_v from_o a_o most_o ungospel-like_a spirit_n and_o show_v he_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o like_a passion_n with_o other_o and_o therefore_o for_o the_o true_a state_v of_o these_o thing_n we_o shall_v more_o brief_o say_v that_o so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v to_o perform_v the_o work_n of_o evangelist_n that_o be_v to_o preach_v unto_o we_o jesus_n and_o to_o prove_v and_o declare_v he_o to_o be_v the_o only_a fundamental_a object_n of_o faith_n and_o salvation_n so_o far_o have_v they_o their_o power_n from_o god_n alone_o but_o so_o far_o as_o they_o have_v diocessan_n or_o parochial_a charge_n and_o be_v in_o paticular_o to_o show_v unto_o we_o how_o we_o be_v to_o obey_v he_o as_o christ_n and_o king_n in_o any_o outward_a deportment_n so_o far_o be_v they_o to_o derive_v their_o authority_n from_o that_o church_n power_n which_o have_v from_o crhist_a power_n to_o ordain_v and_o separate_v they_o unto_o that_o work_n so_o far_o as_o they_o be_v entrust_v with_o the_o guidance_n of_o god_n inward_a kingdom_n in_o our_o heart_n that_o be_v to_o persuade_v man_n to_o faith_n in_o christ_n which_o be_v the_o chief_a work_n of_o the_o primitive_a teacher_n among_o the_o infidel_n so_o far_o be_v they_o god_n minister_n and_o not_o man_n but_o as_o they_o be_v to_o meddle_v with_o man_n abbearance_n and_o external_a behaviour_n in_o christ_n kingdom_n the_o church_n that_o be_v to_o show_v how_o to_o perform_v obedience_n to_o he_o be_v convert_v and_o acknowledge_v his_o power_n so_o far_o be_v they_o to_o have_v warrant_n from_o those_o his_o chief_a deputy_n in_o the_o church_n whereupon_o two_o thing_n will_v plain_o follow_v to_o the_o advantage_n of_o the_o clergy_n above_o other_o first_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o ordination_n they_o be_v to_o be_v hold_v so_o proper_o god_n minister_n that_o in_o preach_v and_o administration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o some_o other_o thing_n none_o but_o they_o have_v power_n to_o intermeddle_v and_o yet_o be_v they_o not_o hereby_o exclude_v from_o have_v external_a jurisdiction_n and_o power_n over_o man_n person_n also_o if_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o church_n wherein_o they_o live_v shall_v so_o think_v fit_a nay_o when_o the_o representative_a authority_n of_o that_o
same_o perform_v but_o these_o thing_n seem_v natural_o to_o fall_v upon_o we_o for_o as_o every_o man_n do_v submit_v to_o government_n in_o general_n out_o of_o consideration_n of_o his_o own_o private_a good_a to_o be_v therein_o enjoy_v and_o not_o out_o of_o care_n advance_v the_o public_a otherwise_o then_o in_o order_n thereunto_o so_o must_v it_o again_o fall_v out_o that_o in_o all_o deliberation_n for_o the_o manner_n or_o measure_n of_o exercise_n thereof_o that_o form_n of_o administration_n shall_v be_v still_o choose_v that_o in_o each_o party_n judgement_n afford_v to_o himself_o most_o full_a and_o free_a enjoyment_n place_v his_o first_o respect_n to_o his_o own_o particular_a and_o regard_v the_o public_a but_o in_o order_n thereuto_fw-la from_o whence_o such_o difference_n of_o judgement_n in_o form_n of_o government_n do_v arise_v and_o from_o hence_o also_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o subject_n in_o polarchy_n be_v always_o upon_o experience_n more_o complain_v and_o desirous_a to_o return_v under_o monarchy_n again_o than_o they_o be_v at_o first_o to_o abandon_v it_o even_o because_o they_o now_o find_v themselves_o delude_v and_o defeat_v of_o that_o share_n and_o degree_n of_o power_n and_o government_n which_o they_o upon_o their_o princess_n removal_n do_v before_o vain_o expect_v by_o all_o which_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o intention_n of_o good_a according_a to_o our_o own_o light_n can_v estate_n any_o guiltless_a for_o then_o all_o will_v be_v so_o but_o public_a good_a must_v arise_v by_o joint_a submission_n unto_o one_o judge_n of_o common_a good_a else_o it_o will_v prove_v that_o this_o strong_a desire_n to_o do_v good_a will_v be_v the_o continual_a cause_n of_o harm_n for_o malice_n itself_o be_v but_o in_o order_n to_o envy_v and_o revenge_n if_o man_n be_v no_o far_o incline_v to_o such_o like_a prosecution_n as_o before_o note_v then_o as_o be_v hinder_v in_o their_o own_o way_n of_o do_v good_a it_o must_v then_o follow_v that_o to_o do_v good_a disorderly_a be_v the_o ready_a way_n to_o be_v malicious_a for_o though_o the_o will_n to_o good_a must_v always_o reside_v in_o private_a and_o separate_a person_n yet_o the_o understanding_n and_o direction_n thereof_o must_v be_v conform_a to_o such_o as_o be_v in_o authority_n and_o the_o judgement_n of_o such_o as_o be_v under_o subjection_n be_v to_o be_v employ_v in_o know_v what_o but_o not_o why_o to_o obey_v by_o which_o mean_v we_o shall_v preserve_v and_o maintain_v undeniable_o that_o which_o be_v tâ—e_v most_o general_a and_o high_a step_n to_o providence_n and_o general_a benefit_n namely_o public_a peace_n whereas_o pursue_v our_o neighbour_n benefit_n according_a to_o rule_n and_o way_n of_o our_o own_o frame_n the_o truth_n of_o our_o private_a speculation_n towards_o beneficence_n can_v be_v but_o as_o contingent_a if_o not_o more_o then_o that_o of_o authority_n and_o must_v by_o the_o distraction_n of_o my_o own_o and_o other_o obedience_n through_o exemplar_n encouragement_n for_o each_o one_o to_o follow_v his_o own_o judgement_n in_o way_n and_o act_n of_o benoficence_n avoidable_a defeat_n all_o public_a good_a and_o charity_n in_o defeat_v the_o bond_n of_o peace_n that_o unity_n of_o direction_n that_o shall_v have_v lead_v thereunto_o for_o upon_o the_o same_o warrant_v i_o follow_v my_o own_o or_o other_o private_a judgement_n against_o public_a command_n now_o i_o may_v do_v so_o again_o as_o often_o as_o i_o pretend_v or_o real_o conceive_v my_o neighbour_n good_a to_o be_v thereby_o increase_v and_o the_o same_o liberty_n be_v take_v by_o other_o also_o what_o can_v follow_v but_o that_o man_n different_o act_v and_o obey_v according_a to_o different_a conscience_n and_o interest_n they_o must_v force_v difference_n to_o arise_v among_o themselves_o in_o their_o service_n one_o towards_o another_o to_o the_o final_a overthrow_n of_o charity_n and_o public_a good_a as_o for_o example_n i_o that_o be_o unknowing_a or_o heedless_a of_o the_o good_a and_o benefit_n of_o stranger_n and_o such_o as_o be_v more_o remote_a in_o comparison_n of_o those_o near_o i_o and_o such_o as_o i_o converse_v with_o and_o which_o must_v again_o make_v such_o difference_n between_o those_o which_o be_v of_o my_o neighbourhood_n in_o respect_n of_o that_o different_a affection_n i_o shall_v cast_v towards_o they_o as_o they_o have_v in_o particular_a friendship_n and_o kindness_n deserve_v at_o my_o hand_n or_o do_v in_o affection_n or_o interest_n sympathize_v and_o comply_v with_o i_o can_v thereupon_o but_o out_o of_o this_o my_o unequal_a regard_n dispense_v so_o unequal_o of_o my_o charity_n that_o those_o i_o know_v not_o shall_v have_v no_o share_n or_o provision_n at_o all_o and_o of_o those_o i_o do_v know_v either_o through_o contrariety_n of_o humour_n or_o thwart_v of_o design_n some_o will_v come_v to_o be_v esteem_v and_o prosecute_v as_o enemy_n even_o for_o that_o they_o stand_v contrary_a in_o affection_n or_o act_n to_o that_o way_n or_o course_n i_o have_v resolve_v on_o or_o put_v in_o practice_n for_o the_o advancement_n of_o the_o good_a of_o those_o which_o i_o esteem_v more_o as_o be_v my_o particular_a kindred_n or_o friend_n whereupon_o another_o again_o that_o hold_v great_a relation_n or_o friendship_n to_o those_o i_o slight_v or_o disesteem_v be_v thereupon_o induce_v from_o the_o height_n of_o my_o more_o fierce_a and_o private_a love_n towards_o the_o promote_a the_o good_a of_o these_o above_o other_o who_o he_o love_v better_a to_o labour_v on_o the_o contrary_a the_o hindrance_n and_o harm_n of_o they_o above_o other_o by_o which_o mean_v it_o shall_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o each_o subject_n in_o particular_a shall_v be_v true_o want_v of_o his_o due_a measure_n of_o charity_n and_o beneficence_n in_o execution_n and_o enjoyment_n whilst_o through_o private_a design_n and_o power_n the_o same_o be_v only_o measure_v and_o practise_v even_o to_o the_o overthrow_n of_o all_o true_a charity_n and_o public_a peace_n also_o the_o which_o consideration_n well_o weigh_v may_v methinks_v persuade_v any_o to_o the_o obedience_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o depute_a minister_n for_o direction_n of_o their_o charity_n namely_o to_o consider_v that_o since_o love_v and_o propension_n to_o act_n of_o beneficence_n be_v place_v in_o we_o for_o public_a good_a sake_n and_o for_o that_o of_o other_o more_o than_o of_o their_o own_o it_o be_v therefore_o reason_n we_o shall_v submit_v to_o be_v therein_o guide_v by_o the_o public_a direction_n of_o other_o also_o who_o obey_v according_a to_o christ_n precept_n give_v to_o that_o very_a end_n 2.14_o of_o do_v all_o thing_n without_o murmur_a and_o dispute_v why_o shall_v we_o doubt_v of_o be_v blameless_a and_o harmless_a the_o son_n of_o god_n 15._o and_o have_v real_o love_v other_o as_o ourselves_o and_o so_o perform_v the_o moral_a law_n since_o we_o have_v submit_v to_o act_v according_a thereunto_o wherefore_o the_o sum_n of_o all_o be_v that_o god_n make_v man_n upright_o 29._o but_o he_o seek_v out_o many_o invention_n and_o that_o therefore_o public_a good_a act_v by_o private_a direction_n only_o be_v always_o evil_a and_o the_o more_o intent_o and_o confident_o so_o do_v the_o more_o evil_a that_o private_a equity_n be_v public_a iniquity_n that_o that_o natural_a former_a inclination_n to_o beneficence_n which_o lean_v on_o the_o principle_n of_o our_o dark_a fleshly_a wisdom_n aim_v at_o and_o so_o corrupt_v through_o original_a pride_n and_o presumption_n of_o our_o own_o managery_n be_v to_o be_v now_o abandon_v and_o we_o renew_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o mind_n through_o love_n and_o its_o fruit_n meekness_n gentleness_n patience_n etc._n etc._n which_o inward_a root_n of_o love_n as_o it_o come_v from_o god_n only_o so_o be_v it_o at_o his_o only_a dispose_n be_v make_v perfect_a by_o obedience_n to_o he_o or_o officer_n hold_v direct_a authority_n from_o and_o under_o he_o by_o which_o mean_n we_o may_v perceive_v how_o nature_n come_v to_o be_v perfect_v by_o grace_n and_o how_o that_o natural_a and_o original_a intention_n to_o beneficence_n that_o through_o our_o fall_n be_v defeat_v by_o pride_n come_v to_o be_v make_v useful_a by_o the_o gospel_n light_n and_o direction_n of_o obedience_n humility_n long-suffering_a patience_n meekness_n gentleness_n etc._n etc._n this_o inward_a root_n of_o love_n be_v always_o ready_a to_o bridle_v we_o against_o envy_n hatred_n malice_n and_o all_o uncharitable_a act_n against_o other_o even_o so_o far_o as_o according_a to_o the_o light_n of_o our_o own_o conscience_n not_o otherwise_o authorize_v we_o be_v to_o abstain_v from_o all_o appearance_n of_o evil_n 5.22_o by_o which_o mean_v god_n that_o can_v never_o act_v contrary_a to_o to_o himself_o or_o to_o the_o defeat_n of_o his_o own_o work_n or_o end_n which_o can_v never_o be_v but_o perfect_a and_o
of_o patience_n humility_n etc._n etc._n will_v be_v find_v the_o chief_a drift_n of_o the_o gospel_n if_o not_o the_o only_a precept_n that_o private_a person_n can_v of_o their_o own_o judgement_n rely_v upon_o they_o proceed_v from_o the_o same_o precept_n of_o love_n and_o charity_n these_o teach_v we_o how_o with_o charity_n to_o suffer_v from_o other_o as_o the_o orhe_a do_v how_o to_o be_v inward_o affect_v in_o my_o act_n towards_o they_o for_o as_o whatsoever_o thing_n be_v write_v aforetime_o be_v write_v for_o our_o learning_n so_o be_v it_o do_v that_o we_o through_o patience_n and_o comfort_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o be_v through_o the_o precept_n and_o example_n thereof_o therein_o set_v down_o as_o practise_v and_o the_o comfort_n and_o reward_v thereof_o thence_o also_o arise_v may_v have_v hope_n 4._o and_o encouragement_n to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o like_a duty_n that_o through_o the_o grace_n and_o goodness_n of_o the_o god_n of_o patience_n and_o consolation_n we_o may_v be_v hereby_o enable_v to_o be_v like_o mind_a one_o towards_o another_o according_a to_o christ_n jesus_n 1.2_o and_o so_o be_v not_o only_o active_o charitable_a whilst_o in_o thing_n in_o our_o power_n each_o one_o shall_v not_o seek_v to_o please_v himself_o but_o his_o neighbour_n but_o also_o the_o same_o example_n will_v teach_v we_o to_o be_v passive_o charitable_a too_o by_o our_o readiness_n to_o submit_v to_o authority_n the_o only_a way_n to_o the_o peace_n and_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n 6._o that_o therein_o with_o one_o mind_n and_o one_o mouth_n we_o may_v glorify_v god_n even_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n however_o i_o can_v tell_v whether_o from_o these_o light_n i_o have_v give_v sufficient_a reason_n or_o no_o for_o cast_v off_o revenge_n and_o disobedience_n and_o entertainment_n of_o patience_n and_o humility_n yet_o sure_o i_o be_o that_o i_o can_v by_o my_o own_o good_a experience_n say_v that_o as_o i_o become_v every_o day_n a_o more_o true_a disciple_n of_o my_o saviour_n even_o by_o willing_o take_v up_o my_o cross_n and_o follow_v he_o 9.23_o and_o that_o as_o i_o do_v more_o and_o more_o consider_v that_o slander_n persecution_n and_o all_o worldly_a affliction_n when_o suffer_v for_o or_o in_o a_o good_a conscience_n which_o may_v be_v best_a know_v by_o the_o corruption_n and_o wickedness_n of_o the_o persecutor_n be_v not_o only_a testimony_n of_o christianity_n in_o order_n to_o his_o prediction_n that_o way_n give_v but_o also_o of_o god_n more_o especial_a and_o fatherly_a favour_n that_o chasten_v every_o son_n who_o he_o love_v so_o do_v i_o more_o and_o more_o increase_v every_o day_n in_o true_a comfort_n 12.6_o even_o from_o the_o assurance_n i_o thereby_o gather_v of_o god_n protection_n and_o care_n of_o i_o and_o that_o in_o a_o far_o high_a and_o more_o settle_a degree_n than_o any_o revenge_n by_o myself_o former_o take_v can_v afford_v nor_o can_v i_o or_o any_o man_n else_o that_o consider_v these_o usuage_n of_o god_n with_o a_o well_o measure_a judgement_n but_o thereby_o find_v advantage_n to_o arise_v even_o in_o this_o world_n consideration_n also_o it_o fare_v no_o otherewise_o with_o man_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o their_o reputation_n and_o honour_n then_o in_o consideration_n of_o worldly_a estate_n and_o fortune_n for_o as_o he_o that_o will_v always_o be_v live_v at_o the_o height_n of_o his_o fortune_n will_v be_v so_o much_o the_o near_o to_o poverty_n by_o how_o much_o he_o be_v more_o expensive_a and_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o envy_n and_o yet_o have_v no_o more_o true_a inward_a content_n than_o other_o even_o so_o such_o as_o live_v in_o the_o height_n of_o reputation_n must_v be_v subject_a to_o the_o same_o diminution_n and_o hazard_n for_o when_o those_o fault_n which_o real_o all_o man_n must_v more_o or_o less_o have_v or_o those_o which_o mere_a envy_n shall_v discover_v shall_v be_v divulge_v to_o the_o world_n he_o can_v then_o but_o be_v render_v both_o to_o other_o man_n so_o much_o the_o more_o ill_a by_o how_o much_o he_o have_v former_o be_v hold_v more_o good_a and_o to_o himself_o hereby_o so_o much_o more_o miserable_a by_o how_o much_o he_o deem_v himself_o before_o more_o happy_a whereas_o he_o that_o be_v real_o good_a can_v but_o be_v always_o in_o a_o thrive_a and_o prosperous_a condition_n although_o that_o steady_a course_n of_o virtue_n and_o honesty_n which_o he_o walk_v in_o may_v through_o difference_n of_o the_o common_a practice_n of_o the_o world_n as_o make_v god_n and_o his_o neighbour_n good_a his_o aim_n and_o not_o covetousness_n or_o vainglory_n make_v he_o to_o differ_v from_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n in_o his_o deportment_n and_o so_o for_o a_o time_n displease_v for_o a_o time_n i_o say_v for_o as_o man_n can_v never_o whole_o banish_v truth_n so_o this_o man_n innocence_n and_o integrity_n can_v but_o by_o degree_n appear_v at_o which_o time_n the_o very_a height_n of_o former_a calumny_n will_v redound_v to_o his_o increase_n of_o reputation_n and_o all_o man_n be_v ready_a to_o take_v occasion_n for_o extol_v their_o own_o ability_n in_o matter_n of_o extraordinary_a discovery_n they_o will_v from_o hence_o take_v occasion_n the_o more_o to_o set_v forth_o and_o admire_v this_o man_n merit_n or_o innocence_n even_o for_o that_o other_o have_v heretofore_o so_o much_o lean_v to_o the_o contrary_n which_o commendation_n again_o grow_v to_o this_o party_n by_o continual_a increase_n and_o degree_n and_o those_o deserve_v must_v thereby_o render_v he_o also_o in_o point_n of_o reputation_n both_o continual_o prosperous_a and_o likewise_o steady_a therein_o but_o if_o it_o fall_v out_o otherwise_o and_o that_o god_n love_n to_o we_o above_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v be_v make_v far_o appear_v by_o their_o unjust_a and_o oppressive_a usage_n of_o we_o in_o matter_n of_o our_o estate_n or_o by_o the_o dislike_n and_o rejection_n of_o our_o communion_n by_o such_o as_o be_v riotous_a or_o factious_a as_o we_o have_v hereby_o fresh_a comfort_n in_o ourselves_o in_o respect_n of_o our_o christian_a faith_n and_o assurance_n in_o order_n to_o god_n promise_n make_v that_o way_n so_o may_v we_o also_o reap_v true_a inward_a content_n even_o in_o point_n of_o heroic_a resolution_n and_o prudence_n out_o of_o the_o consideration_n that_o this_o their_o mislike_n of_o our_o cause_n or_o carriage_n arise_v not_o from_o any_o well_o ground_a estimate_n of_o justice_n or_o virtue_n vulgar_a justice_n be_v many_o time_n nothing_o else_o but_o the_o effect_n of_o bribery_n importunity_n friendship_n or_o the_o knot_v together_o of_o some_o party_n for_o the_o prefer_v some_o such_o man_n cause_n as_o have_v insinuate_v himself_o into_o most_o favour_n the_o which_o can_v be_v expect_v from_o he_o that_o have_v his_o confidence_n so_o much_o in_o god_n and_o the_o goodness_n of_o his_o cause_n that_o he_o can_v he_o dare_v not_o distrust_v providence_n so_o far_o as_o not_o to_o resolve_v on_o and_o prefer_v a_o noble_a suffering_n before_o a_o ignoble_a prevention_n and_o so_o again_o in_o point_n of_o civil_a behaviour_n and_o in_o that_o reputation_n which_o be_v to_o be_v expect_v from_o man_n sociable_a deportment_n so_o little_a regard_n be_v usual_o have_v to_o the_o general_a and_o public_a benefit_n of_o society_n that_o the_o commendation_n of_o breed_n comity_n urbanity_n or_o the_o like_a be_v often_o time_n but_o the_o flatter_a compliance_n and_o endearment_n of_o some_o sort_n or_o order_n of_o the_o subject_n one_o towards_o another_o who_o usual_a issue_n be_v in_o a_o faction_n and_o the_o ordinary_a way_n of_o win_v worldly_a friendship_n and_o esteem_n be_v either_o by_o open_a applaud_v each_o other_o ability_n and_o course_n or_o else_o by_o such_o profession_n and_o insinuation_n of_o our_o service_n and_o affection_n towards_o they_o as_o to_o give_v occasion_n upon_o all_o opportunity_n even_o out_o of_o self-regard_n to_o commend_v their_o friend_n and_o their_o ability_n as_o esteem_v themselves_o commend_v in_o these_o that_o so_o much_o own_o and_o approve_v they_o whereas_o he_o that_o be_v true_o conscientious_a of_o god_n service_n and_o his_o neighbour_n so_o far_o as_o to_o place_v they_o above_o popular_a show_n dare_v not_o undertake_v this_o kind_n of_o serve_v himself_o by_o his_o neighbour_n ruin_n but_o will_v watch_v all_o seasonable_a opportunity_n to_o perform_v the_o office_n of_o a_o true_a friend_n by_o expression_n of_o such_o deed_n and_o counsel_n as_o shall_v advance_v other_o man_n benefit_n in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o his_o own_o honour_n among_o they_o in_o the_o second_o by_o which_o mean_n as_o i_o shall_v real_o do_v the_o part_n of_o a_o true_a commonwealths-man_n and_o christian_n so_o shall_v i_o never_o want_v the_o true_a comfort_n thereof_o as_o
they_o be_v now_o christian_n it_o follow_v that_o all_o that_o intermeddle_v without_o their_o leave_n be_v usurper_n also_o from_o all_o which_o and_o what_o have_v heretofore_o be_v say_v in_o the_o argument_n we_o may_v easy_o conceive_v how_o to_o determine_v concern_v apostolical_a succession_n in_o right_o whereof_o those_o of_o the_o romish_a prelacy_n will_v at_o this_o day_n take_v
