to_o say_v if_o this_o paper_n will_v contain_v they_o but_o it_o will_v be_v sufficient_a to_o touch_v only_o upon_o these_o three_o 1._o that_o man_n have_v several_a talent_n both_o among_o you_o and_o among_o we_o which_o be_v all_o very_a profitable_a some_o for_o inform_v the_o judgement_n other_o for_o move_v the_o affection_n and_o other_o which_o be_v most_o desirable_a for_o both_o you_o be_v not_o able_a to_o say_v that_o all_o you_o move_v you_o so_o as_o some_o do_v and_o yet_o you_o make_v such_o account_n of_o all_o that_o it_o have_v ever_o be_v look_v upon_o as_o a_o very_a disorderly_a thing_n among_o yourselves_o and_o worse_o than_o that_o i_o shall_v prove_v by_o and_o by_o for_o people_n to_o run_v from_o their_o own_o minister_n to_o hear_v some_o other_o though_o of_o the_o same_o way_n mere_o to_o have_v the_o affection_n more_o move_v because_o 2._o this_o alone_a be_v so_o far_o from_o profit_v by_o sermon_n that_o it_o be_v very_o great_a unprofitableness_n to_o be_v move_v by_o a_o sermon_n and_o do_v nothing_o thereupon_o but_o only_o commend_v it_o that_o be_v to_o be_v tickle_v and_o please_v a_o while_n but_o not_o alter_v nor_o change_v a_o whit_n or_o to_o be_v warm_v perhaps_o a_o little_a for_o the_o present_a and_o then_o leave_v as_o cold_a as_o a_o stone_n without_o any_o spiritual_a life_n or_o endeavour_v to_o be_v the_o better_a 3._o but_o the_o great_a thing_n of_o all_o be_v this_o that_o affection_n raise_v mere_o by_o the_o earnestness_n of_o the_o preacher_n at_o present_a in_o the_o hear_n of_o a_o sermon_n and_o it_o be_v well_o if_o the_o affection_n which_o some_o people_n speak_v of_o be_v not_o motion_n which_o they_o feel_v mere_o from_o the_o tone_n of_o the_o voice_n as_o from_o a_o take_a phrase_n a_o similitude_n or_o some_o such_o trifle_n be_v nothing_o comparable_a to_o those_o which_o we_o raise_v by_o god_n blessing_n upon_o our_o own_o serious_a consideration_n when_o we_o reflect_v upon_o what_o we_o have_v hear_v which_o sort_n of_o most_o excellent_a affection_n the_o sermon_n that_o be_v preach_v in_o our_o church_n can_v fail_v to_o produce_v if_o you_o please_v but_o to_o attend_v to_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o and_o press_v they_o upon_o your_o heart_n nay_o your_o judgement_n be_v well_o inform_v it_o will_v not_o be_v hard_o for_o you_o if_o you_o will_v but_o take_v a_o little_a pain_n with_o yourselves_o to_o excite_v such_o affection_n unto_o that_o which_o you_o know_v to_o be_v your_o duty_n as_o will_v abide_v and_o remain_v when_o the_o other_o that_o be_v excite_v in_o the_o hear_n of_o a_o sermon_n be_v go_v and_o quite_o vanish_v and_o can_v never_o be_v recall_v but_o by_o your_o own_o serious_a meditation_n upon_o those_o divine_a truth_n which_o enter_v into_o your_o mind_n and_o will_v have_v touch_v nay_o pierce_v your_o heart_n if_o you_o will_v have_v bring_v they_o thither_o and_o hold_v they_o close_o to_o your_o conscience_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v every_o christian_n care_v more_o than_o i_o doubt_v it_o be_v in_o order_n to_o their_o profit_v by_o sermon_n and_o that_o they_o may_v not_o be_v barren_a and_o unfruitful_a in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n iv_o and_o now_o it_o be_v time_n for_o all_o those_o who_o be_v concern_v in_o what_o have_v be_v say_v to_o apply_v it_o to_o the_o present_a case_n and_o go_v down_o into_o themselves_o to_o inquire_v where_o the_o fault_n must_v necessary_o lie_v if_o the_o sermon_n preach_v by_o our_o minister_n have_v prove_v unprofitable_a to_o they_o which_o suppose_v that_o they_o who_o object_n this_o against_o come_v to_o church_n have_v come_v heretofore_o at_o least_o to_o the_o sermon_n but_o go_v away_o and_o come_v no_o more_o because_o they_o reap_v no_o benefit_n thereby_o else_o how_o can_v they_o pretend_v that_o our_o sermon_n be_v unprofitable_a if_o they_o never_o hear_v they_o now_o i_o have_v demonstrate_v that_o the_o blame_n can_v be_v just_o cast_v upon_o the_o sermon_n which_o in_o themselves_o be_v every_o way_n fit_v to_o do_v man_n good_a and_o therefore_o we_o must_v seek_v for_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o unprofitableness_n some_o where_o else_o and_o where_o be_v we_o so_o likely_a to_o find_v it_o as_o in_o those_o that_o hear_v the_o sermon_n who_o i_o beseech_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n by_o who_o word_n we_o must_v one_o day_n be_v all_o judge_v to_o consider_v with_o themselves_o impartial_o and_o to_o ask_v their_o conscience_n such_o question_n as_o these_o 1._o quest_n have_v you_o not_o some_o prejudice_n in_o your_o mind_n against_o the_o person_n of_o the_o minister_n who_o you_o come_v to_o hear_v either_o upon_o the_o score_n of_o his_o conformity_n or_o of_o his_o strictness_n in_o it_o or_o some_o other_o account_n if_o you_o have_v and_o carry_v it_o along_o with_o you_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n to_o think_v this_o make_v his_o pain_n unprofitable_a to_o you_o because_o you_o can_v not_o hear_v he_o with_o that_o indifference_n which_o you_o will_v have_v hear_a another_o man_n withal_o but_o look_v upon_o he_o perhaps_o as_o a_o timeserver_n as_o the_o language_n of_o some_o have_v be_v a_o formalist_n or_o one_o who_o you_o presume_v beforehand_o have_v little_a or_o nothing_o of_o the_o spirit_n in_o he_o you_o mind_v not_o so_o much_o what_o be_v say_v as_o who_o say_v it_o and_o dislike_v those_o thing_n which_o out_o of_o another_o mouth_n you_o will_v have_v accept_v for_o if_o such_o prejudices_fw-la as_o these_o be_v not_o lay_v aside_o they_o bar_v the_o heart_n so_o strong_o against_o the_o most_o excellent_a instruction_n that_o though_o a_o angel_n from_o heaven_n shall_v deliver_v to_o we_o the_o most_o important_a truth_n yet_o we_o take_v he_o for_o a_o minister_n of_o satan_n it_o will_v stop_v our_o ear_n against_o he_o and_o make_v his_o message_n ineffectual_a 2._o quest_n or_o may_v not_o this_o be_v rhe_n reason_n of_o your_o reap_v no_o benefit_n that_o you_o come_v to_o church_n but_o once_o or_o twice_o and_o conclude_v too_o hasty_o there_o be_v no_o good_a to_o be_v get_v there_o be_v willing_a also_o perhaps_o to_o have_v this_o excuse_n for_o absent_v yourself_o whole_o from_o it_o whereas_o if_o you_o have_v constant_o attend_v our_o ministry_n you_o may_v have_v find_v yourselves_o so_o much_o improve_v thereby_o as_o never_o to_o have_v think_v of_o leave_v the_o church_n upon_o this_o account_n that_o you_o can_v
