may_v have_v his_o arm_n cut_v off_o and_o yet_o have_v no_o thought_n arise_v in_o his_o soul_n correspondent_a to_o it_o but_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o the_o least_o change_n shall_v happen_v in_o the_o principal_a part_n of_o the_o brain_n without_o cause_v also_o some_o alteration_n in_o the_o soul_n this_o be_v verify_v by_o experience_n for_o sometime_o part_n of_o the_o body_n be_v cut_v off_o without_o be_v feel_v because_o then_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o amputation_n do_v not_o communicate_v itself_o to_o the_o principal_a part._n as_o on_o the_o contrary_a those_o thought_n which_o disappear_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o sensible_a object_n xvi_o but_o i_o suppose_v in_o the_o three_o place_n that_o we_o have_v not_o now_o that_o power_n and_o therefore_o to_o obtain_v some_o liberty_n of_o mind_n to_o think_v on_o what_o we_o will_v and_o love_v what_o we_o ought_v it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o principal_a part_n shall_v be_v calm_a the_o passion_n xviii_o five_o i_o suppose_v that_o object_n never_o strike_v the_o brain_n without_o leave_v some_o mark_n of_o their_o action_n nor_o the_o animal_n spirit_n without_o leave_v some_o track_n of_o their_o course_n that_o these_o track_n or_o wound_n be_v not_o easy_o close_v up_o or_o efface_v when_o the_o brain_n have_v be_v often_o or_o forcible_o strike_v and_o when_o the_o course_n of_o the_o spirit_n have_v be_v violent_a or_o have_v often_o begin_v again_o in_o the_o same_o manner_n that_o memory_n and_o corporeal_a habit_n consist_v in_o nothing_o else_o but_o as_o well_o as_o the_o passion_n but_o it_o have_v its_o particular_a malignity_n when_o it_o be_v stir_v up_o by_o the_o sense_n it_o produce_v of_o itself_o extraordinary_a effect_n and_o many_o time_n though_o the_o sense_n do_v not_o actual_o move_v it_o it_o act_n by_o its_o own_o strength_n nay_o sometime_o it_o disturb_v all_o the_o idea_n of_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o phantom_n which_o it_o produce_v and_o enrage_v the_o passion_n by_o the_o violence_n of_o the_o motion_n which_o it_o excite_v but_o for_o fear_v lest_o some_o person_n may_v not_o clear_o comprehend_v these_o truth_n i_o must_v give_v a_o more_o distinct_a explication_n of_o they_o ii_o this_o term_n imagination_n be_v very_o much_o use_v in_o the_o world_n but_o yet_o i_o can_v hardly_o believe_v that_o all_o common_a use_n explain_v only_o those_o word_n that_o excite_v sensible_a idea_n those_o by_o which_o it_o express_v pure_a and_o intellectual_a idea_n be_v all_o of_o they_o either_o equivocal_a or_o
