the_o idea_n of_o a_o enemy_n imperfection_n a_o passion_n of_o contempt_n or_o hatred_n and_o betwixt_o the_o corporeal_a motion_n of_o some_o particle_n of_o blood_n which_o beat_v against_o some_o unite_v together_o by_o the_o eye_n and_o ear_n when_o any_o one_o of_o they_o be_v agitate_a he_o necessary_o move_v all_o those_o that_o look_v upon_o he_o and_o hear_v he_o and_o natural_o make_v a_o impression_n upon_o their_o imagination_n which_o interest_n they_o in_o his_o preservation_n as_o for_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o animal_n spirit_n they_o violent_o descend_v into_o the_o lung_n liver_n spleen_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o bowel_n to_o demand_v contribution_n from_o all_o those_o part_n and_o hasten_v they_o in_o a_o little_a time_n to_o furnish_v necessary_a spirit_n to_o preserve_v the_o body_n in_o the_o extraordinary_a action_n it_o must_v be_v in_o the_o five_o be_v the_o sensible_a emotion_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o feel_v itself_o agitate_a by_o the_o unexpected_a overflow_a of_o the_o spirit_n this_o always_o accompany_v the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n so_o that_o it_o interest_n itself_o in_o whatever_o affect_v the_o body_n even_o as_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v excite_v in_o the_o body_n as_o soon_o as_o the_o soul_n be_v carry_v towards_o any_o object_n the_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v mutual_o unite_v their_o motion_n be_v reciprocal_a the_o six_o be_v the_o different_a sensation_n of_o love_n aversion_n joy_n sorrow_n desire_n cause_v not_o by_o the_o intellectual_a fight_n of_o good_a or_o evil_n as_o those_o we_o have_v already_o speak_v of_o but_o by_o the_o different_a shake_n that_o the_o animal_n spirit_n cause_n in_o the_o brain_n the_o seven_o be_v a_o certain_a sensation_n of_o joy_n or_o rather_o of_o inward_a complacency_n which_o stop_v the_o soul_n in_o its_o passion_n and_o assure_v it_o that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o condition_n that_o be_v proper_a for_o it_o in_o relation_n to_o the_o object_n it_o consider_v this_o internal_a complacency_n general_o accompany_v all_o the_o passion_n those_o which_o proceed_v from_o the_o prospect_n of_o a_o evil_a as_o well_o as_o those_o that_o proceed_v make_v we_o slave_n to_o sensible_a good_n all_o these_o thing_n we_o have_v speak_v of_o occur_v in_o every_o passion_n when_o they_o be_v excite_v by_o confuse_a sensation_n and_o that_o the_o mind_n perceive_v neither_o the_o good_a nor_o evil_n which_o can_v cause_v they_o for_o then_o it_o be_v plain_a the_o three_o first_o thing_n be_v not_o concern_v in_o they_o we_o likewise_o see_v that_o all_o those_o thing_n be_v not_o free_a that_o they_o be_v in_o we_o without_o our_o consent_n and_o even_o against_o it_o since_o the_o fall_n and_o that_o there_o be_v only_o the_o consent_n of_o our_o will_n which_o true_o depend_v upon_o we_o but_o it_o seem_v necessary_a to_o explain_v all_o these_o thing_n more_o at_o large_a and_o to_o render_v they_o more_o sensible_a by_o some_o example_n let_v we_o suppose_v then_o that_o a_o man_n have_v actual_o receive_v some_o affront_n or_o that_o be_v natural_o of_o a_o very_a lively_a and_o quick_a imagination_n he_o have_v be_v much_o as_o think_v upon_o he_o be_v willing_a and_o prepare_v to_o hurt_v he_o the_o sensible_a prospect_n or_o imagination_n of_o the_o relation_n which_o be_v betwixt_o the_o action_n of_o his_o enemy_n and_o his_o own_o design_n will_v be_v the_o first_o cause_n of_o his_o passion_n it_o be_v not_o even_o absolute_o necessary_a that_o this_o man_n shall_v receive_v or_o imagine_v he_o receive_v some_o affront_n for_o the_o motion_n of_o his_o will_n to_o receive_v some_o new_a determination_n it_o be_v enough_o that_o he_o think_v it_o in_o his_o mind_n only_o without_o the_o body_n have_v any_o part_n in_o it_o but_o as_o this_o new_a determination_n will_v not_o be_v a_o determination_n of_o passion_n but_o a_o pure_a inclination_n very_o weak_a and_o languish_a we_o shall_v suppose_v that_o this_o man_n actual_o suffer_v some_o great_a opposition_n in_o his_o design_n or_o that_o he_o strong_o imagine_v that_o he_o shall_v do_v so_o rather_o than_o make_v another_o supposition_n wherein_o the_o sense_n and_o imagination_n have_v little_a or_o no_o share_n the_o second_o thing_n we_o may_v consider_v in_o the_o passion_n of_o this_o man_n be_v a_o good_a be_v more_o sensible_a and_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o proceed_v from_o the_o brain_n to_o disperse_v themselves_o into_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o body_n be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o violent_a as_o the_o shake_n of_o the_o fibre_n of_o the_o brain_n cause_v by_o the_o impression_n of_o the_o object_n or_o imagination_n be_v strong_a so_o this_o same_o shake_n of_o the_o brain_n render_v the_o sight_n of_o the_o good_a more_o sensible_a it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o emotion_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o the_o passion_n shall_v augment_v in_o the_o same_o proportion_n as_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n do_v these_o emotion_n of_o the_o soul_n differ_v not_o from_o those_o which_o immediate_o follow_v the_o intellectual_a sight_n of_o the_o good_a we_o have_v
