country_n people_n and_o other_o resort_v to_o the_o say_a market_n be_v not_o butcher_n not_o poulterer_n nor_o sell_v any_o manner_n of_o flesh-meat_n or_o poultry_n may_v stand_v or_o sit_v and_o vend_fw-mi their_o herb_n fruit_n egg_n butter_n and_o other_o such_o like_a provision_n and_o commodity_n in_o the_o market_n upon_o every_o work_a day_n in_o the_o week_n between_o the_o feast_n of_o the_o annunciation_n and_o the_o feast_n of_o st._n michael_n the_o archangel_n from_o seven_o of_o the_o clock_n in_o the_o morning_n until_o five_o of_o the_o clock_n in_o the_o evening_n of_o the_o same_o day_n and_o upon_o every_o work_a day_n between_o the_o feast_n of_o st._n michael_n and_o the_o annunciation_n from_o six_o of_o the_o clock_n in_o the_o morning_n until_o four_o of_o the_o clock_n in_o the_o evening_n of_o the_o same_o day_n so_o as_o the_o same_o person_n that_o bring_v they_o first_o to_o market_n do_v continue_v the_o sell_v thereof_o and_o do_v observe_v the_o ring_n of_o the_o market_n bell_n for_o keep_v the_o say_a hour_n according_o and_o it_o be_v also_o further_o enact_v in_o regard_n that_o the_o market_n be_v most_o principal_o intend_v for_o the_o benefit_n of_o housekeeper_n who_o buy_v for_o their_o own_o use_n and_o behoof_n that_o the_o retailer_n and_o trader_n of_o this_o city_n who_o buy_v to_o sell_v again_o shall_v not_o enter_v into_o any_o of_o the_o aforesaid_a market_n to_o make_v their_o provision_n and_o buy_v of_o any_o of_o the_o market_n people_n there_o to_o carry_v the_o same_o to_o their_o several_a house_n and_o shop_n until_o the_o afternoon_n of_o every_o day_n to_o the_o end_n that_o housekeeper_n may_v provide_v themselves_o in_o the_o morning_n of_o every_o day_n at_o the_o first_o hand_n and_o pay_v moderate_a rate_n for_o their_o provision_n upon_o pain_n that_o every_o such_o retailer_n or_o retailer_n or_o trader_n shall_v for_o every_o time_n offend_a herein_o forfeit_v forty_o shilling_n and_o forasmuch_o as_o all_o dead_a flesh-meat_n and_o other_o victual_n and_o provision_n of_o all_o sort_n of_o fruit_n herb_n fish_n and_o the_o like_a aught_o to_o be_v sell_v in_o open_a and_o common_a market_n allow_v and_o appoint_v and_o not_o under_o private_a stall_n or_o at_o tavern_n door_n or_o in_o any_o street_n or_o common_a passage_n or_o in_o any_o private_a place_n or_o carry_v up_o and_o down_o and_o sell_v by_o way_n of_o hawk_v by_o mean_n whereof_o much_o unwholesome_a provision_n dangerous_a to_o the_o health_n and_o body_n of_o his_o majesty_n subject_n may_v be_v utter_v and_o sell_v be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o no_o butcher_n poulterer_n country_n farmer_n lader_n kidder_n victualler_n gardener_n fruiterer_n fish-seller_n or_o other_o person_n or_o person_n whatsoever_o shall_v from_o and_o after_o the_o publication_n of_o this_o act_n sell_v utter_a or_o put_v to_o show_v or_o sale_n by_o way_n of_o hawk_v or_o as_o a_o hawker_n or_o in_o any_o otherwise_o any_o beef_n mutton_n lamb_n veal_n pork_n poultry_n butter_n cheese_n fish_n fruit_n herb_n or_o other_o victual_n or_o provision_n whatsoever_o in_o any_o private_a house_n lane_n alley_n inn_n warehouse_n street-stall_n or_o common_a passage_n or_o other_o place_n or_o place_n whatsoever_o within_o the_o city_n of_o london_n or_o liberty_n thereof_o but_o only_o in_o his_o or_o their_o open_a shop_n or_o shop_n or_o in_o the_o public_a market_n place_n or_o place_n and_o in_o market_n time_n only_o according_a as_o be_v before_o appoint_v upon_o pain_n that_o every_o such_o person_n so_o carry_v or_o offer_v to_o put_v to_o sale_n by_o way_n of_o hawk_v or_o in_o any_o otherwise_o any_o flesh-meat_n poultry_n or_o other_o victual_n whatsoever_o as_o aforesaid_a in_o any_o private_a house_n lane_n alley_n inn_n warehouse_n street-stall_n or_o common_a passage_n or_o other_o place_n whatsoever_o be_v not_o he_o or_o their_o open_a shop_n or_o shop_n or_o the_o common_a market_n place_n shall_v forfeit_v the_o same_o good_n so_o offer_v to_o sale_n without_o any_o manner_n of_o favour_n according_a to_o the_o ancient_a custom_n of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n use_v and_o approve_v and_o the_o same_o so_o forfeit_v shall_v be_v dispose_v of_o to_o such_o prison_n within_o this_o city_n of_o london_n as_o the_o lord_n major_a for_o the_o time_n be_v shall_v direct_v and_o appoint_v and_o to_o the_o intent_n that_o forestall_v regrate_v and_o engross_a of_o victual_n and_o other_o commodity_n may_v be_v the_o better_o prevent_v and_o the_o law_n make_v against_o the_o same_o more_o effectual_o observe_v it_o be_v declare_v and_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o no_o person_n or_o person_n from_o and_o after_o the_o publication_n of_o this_o act_n shall_v buy_v or_o cause_n to_o be_v buy_v any_o victual_n or_o other_o thing_n whatsoever_o within_o the_o say_a city_n of_o london_n or_o liberty_n thereof_o come_v to_o any_o the_o common_a market_n of_o this_o city_n or_o make_v any_o bargain_n contract_n or_o promise_v for_o the_o have_v and_o buy_v of_o the_o same_o or_o any_o part_n thereof_o so_o come_v as_o aforesaid_a before_o the_o same_o shall_v be_v bring_v into_o one_o of_o the_o say_a market_n ready_a to_o be_v there_o sell_v and_o also_o that_o no_o person_n or_o person_n that_o shall_v by_o any_o mean_v
every_o constable_n and_o watchman_n may_v know_v the_o night_n time_n and_o place_n where_o they_o be_v to_o watch_v and_o that_o the_o constable_n on_o the_o day_n before_o his_o watch-night_n or_o the_o beadle_n of_o that_o ward_n do_v warn_v every_o man_n that_o be_v to_o watch_v with_o he_o according_o or_o leave_v notice_n thereof_o in_o write_v at_o the_o house_n of_o every_o such_o man_n and_o that_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o every_o ward_n do_v take_v notice_n hereof_o any_o pretence_n of_o privilege_n usage_n or_o custom_n to_o the_o contrary_a hereof_o in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o and_o be_v it_o also_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o if_o any_o constable_n shall_v make_v default_n in_o execute_v his_o office_n or_o do_v his_o service_n in_o any_o of_o the_o premise_n hereby_o appoint_v or_o hereafter_o to_o be_v order_v or_o appoint_v as_o aforesaid_a without_o just_a and_o reasonable_a cause_n to_o be_v allow_v of_o as_o be_v hereafter_o mention_v that_o then_o every_o such_o constable_n shall_v forfeit_v and_o pay_v for_o every_o such_o default_n five_o pound_n and_o that_o if_o any_o person_n appoint_v and_o warn_v to_o watch_v or_o to_o find_v a_o able_a and_o fit_a person_n to_o watch_v in_o he_o or_o her_o stead_n as_o aforesaid_a shall_v refuse_v or_o make_v default_n to_o watch_v or_o to_o find_v a_o able_a and_o fit_a person_n to_o watch_v in_o he_o or_o her_o stead_n as_o aforesaid_a that_o then_o every_o such_o person_n so_o refuse_v or_o make_v default_n to_o watch_v as_o aforesaid_a and_o not_o have_v just_a and_o reasonable_a cause_n for_o such_o his_o default_n as_o shall_v be_v allow_v of_o by_o the_o lord_n major_a of_o the_o say_a city_n or_o the_o alderman_n of_o that_o ward_n for_o the_o time_n be_v shall_v forfeit_v and_o pay_v for_o every_o such_o default_n twenty_o shilling_n and_o it_o be_v hereby_o far_o enact_v that_o the_o alderman_n deputy_n and_o common_a councel-man_n of_o every_o ward_n or_o the_o major_a part_n of_o they_o for_o the_o time_n be_v shall_v from_o time_n to_o time_n nominate_v and_o appoint_v two_o or_o more_o honest_a able_a man_n of_o the_o same_o ward_n who_o shall_v be_v call_v supervisor_n to_o take_v care_n and_o oversee_v that_o the_o watch_v appoint_v in_o every_o ward_n be_v from_o henceforth_o due_o keep_v and_o that_o the_o constable_n beadle_z and_z watchmen_z execute_v do_v and_o perform_v their_o duty_n and_o service_n therein_o or_o otherwise_o pay_v the_o forfeiture_n and_o payment_n herein_o before_o ordain_v for_o their_o default_n respective_o and_o that_o the_o same_o supervisor_n or_o one_o of_o they_o shall_v take_v notice_n of_o such_o of_o the_o say_a inhabitant_n as_o absent_v themselves_o at_o any_o time_n from_o watch_v as_o aforesaid_a and_o likewise_o of_o such_o constable_n and_o beadle_n as_o shall_v at_o any_o time_n make_v default_n be_v remiss_a or_o negligent_a in_o performance_n of_o he_o or_o their_o duty_n in_o the_o premise_n and_o shall_v likewise_o from_o time_n to_o time_n present_a the_o name_n of_o every_o sâ—ch_a defaulter_n to_o the_o lord_n major_a of_o the_o say_a city_n for_o the_o time_n be_v or_o to_o the_o alderman_n of_o the_o ward_n where_o such_o default_n shall_v be_v make_v that_o every_o such_o defaulter_n may_v pay_v the_o forfeiture_n and_o payment_n impose_v upon_o he_o or_o she_o as_o aforesaid_a and_o that_o the_o beadle_n of_o every_o ward_n or_o some_o trusty_a person_n for_o he_o shall_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o constable_n and_o one_o of_o the_o say_a overseer_n if_o they_o or_o either_o of_o they_o can_v be_v present_a call_v over_o the_o name_n of_o all_o those_o which_o shall_v be_v appoint_v to_o watch_v each_o night_n respective_o in_o their_o course_n as_o aforesaid_a as_o well_o at_o the_o hour_n appoint_v for_o their_o meeting_n in_o the_o evening_n as_o also_o at_o the_o time_n appoint_v for_o the_o break_n up_o of_o the_o watch_n in_o the_o morning_n and_o that_o they_o the_o constable_n or_o beadle_n or_o one_o of_o they_o or_o some_o other_o trusty_a person_n in_o their_o or_o either_o of_o their_o behalf_n in_o case_n the_o supervisor_n shall_v be_v absent_a at_o any_o of_o the_o say_a time_n shall_v take_v a_o note_n in_o write_v of_o the_o name_n and_o surname_n of_o every_o of_o the_o inhabitant_n then_o appoint_v to_o watch_v as_o shall_v be_v absent_a from_o their_o watch_n at_o any_o of_o the_o hour_n herein_o before_o appoint_a evening_n or_o morning_n and_o shall_v deliver_v the_o say_v note_v the_o next_o day_n to_o the_o supervisor_n or_o one_o of_o they_o and_o that_o the_o constable_n supervisor_n and_o beadle_n of_o every_o the_o say_a ward_n and_o every_o of_o they_o shall_v bring_v before_o the_o lord_n major_a of_o the_o say_a city_n for_o the_o time_n be_v or_o the_o alderman_n of_o their_o ward_n every_o constable_n or_o other_o person_n make_v default_n in_o any_o of_o the_o premise_n respective_o if_o such_o person_n make_v default_n will_v ready_o and_o voluntary_o go_v along_o with_o he_o and_o every_o such_o defaulter_n shall_v then_o present_o pay_v to_o the_o lord_n major_n or_o alderman_n aforesaid_a such_o forfeiture_n and_o payment_n as_o be_v herein_o before_o limit_v and_o appoint_v for_o they_o respective_o to_o pay_v as_o aforesaid_a and_o that_o all_o money_n so_o forfeit_v and_o pay_v as_o aforesaid_a shall_v be_v employ_v to_o and_o for_o the_o relief_n of_o the_o poor_a of_o the_o say_a ward_n as_o the_o lord_n major_n or_o alderman_n of_o the_o ward_n where_o such_o default_n shall_v be_v make_v shall_v think_v fit_a and_o appoint_v but_o if_o such_o defaulter_n shall_v refuse_v to_o go_v with_o the_o say_a constable_n supervisor_n or_o beadle_n before_o the_o say_a lord_n major_n or_o alderman_n as_o aforesaid_a or_o go_v shall_v refuse_v or_o delay_v to_o pay_v the_o say_a forfeiture_n penalty_n or_o sum_n of_o money_n respective_o as_o aforesaid_a that_o then_o and_o in_o either_o of_o the_o say_a case_n such_o defaulter_n shall_v forfeit_v and_o pay_v treble_a the_o aforesaid_a penalty_n or_o sum_n of_o money_n all_o which_o forfeiture_n hereby_o forfeit_v shall_v respective_o be_v recover_v by_o action_n of_o debt_n bill_n or_o information_n in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o chamberlain_n of_o this_o city_n for_o the_o time_n be_v in_o the_o court_n hold_v before_o the_o lord_n major_n and_o alderman_n of_o the_o say_a city_n in_o the_o chamber_n of_o the_o guildhall_n of_o the_o same_o city_n to_o be_v prosecute_v by_o the_o beadle_n of_o the_o ward_n wherein_o every_o of_o the_o say_a offence_n aforemention_v shall_v be_v commit_v or_o any_o other_o person_n or_o person_n thereunto_o appoint_v by_o the_o say_a lord_n major_n or_o the_o alderman_n of_o such_o ward_n and_o after_o recovery_n thereof_o one_o moiety_n of_o the_o same_o after_o all_o charge_v deduct_v shall_v be_v to_o the_o say_a beadle_n or_o other_o prosecutor_n and_o the_o other_o moiety_n to_o be_v employ_v to_o the_o relief_n of_o the_o poor_a of_o the_o ward_n wherein_o such_o offence_n shall_v be_v commit_v as_o the_o lord_n major_n or_o alderman_n of_o the_o same_o ward_n shall_v direct_v and_o appoint_v in_o all_o which_o suit_v to_o be_v bring_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o act_n the_o chamberlain_n shall_v recover_v his_o ordinary_a cost_v and_o charge_n to_o be_v expend_v for_o the_o recovery_n of_o all_o such_o forfeiture_n against_o the_o offender_n and_o last_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o beadle_n of_o the_o several_a ward_n of_o this_o city_n or_o any_o of_o they_o shall_v not_o hereafter_o take_v or_o have_v any_o allowance_n of_o watchman_n call_v dead-pays_a for_o or_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o nightly_o watch_v or_o for_o or_o in_o consideration_n of_o any_o other_o service_n whatsoever_o but_o that_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o every_o ward_n shall_v among_o themselves_o raise_v some_o convenient_a sum_n of_o money_n for_o a_o fit_a and_o competent_a salary_n and_o allowance_n to_o be_v make_v unto_o the_o say_a beadle_n for_o their_o say_a service_n or_o if_o the_o say_a inhabitant_n of_o all_o or_o any_o the_o say_a ward_n can_v agree_v upon_o raise_v such_o salary_n or_o sum_n of_o money_n than_o the_o same_o to_o be_v do_v by_o authority_n of_o common_a council_n by_o such_o way_n and_o mean_n and_o in_o proportion_n to_o the_o service_n and_o the_o extent_n of_o each_o ward_n as_o by_o the_o say_v common_a council_n shall_v upon_o far_a consideration_n be_v find_v just_a and_o reasonable_a the_o lord_n major_n do_v annual_o issue_v out_o his_o precept_n to_o the_o alderman_n of_o every_o ward_n to_o hold_v his_o wardmote_a for_o the_o election_n of_o common_a councel-man_n and_o other_o officer_n the_o tenor_n of_o which_o precept_n be_v as_o follow_v
court_n to_o be_v hold_v after_o such_o arrest_v so_o to_o be_v make_v to_o the_o end_n the_o party_n plaintiff_n may_v proceed_v in_o his_o action_n according_a to_o law_n and_o that_o none_o of_o the_o say_a officer_n presume_v to_o discharge_v any_o person_n or_o person_n by_o he_o arrest_v after_o agreement_n make_v between_o the_o party_n till_o such_o time_n as_o the_o say_a officer_n shall_v have_v cause_v either_o the_o action_n to_o be_v withdraw_v or_o satisfaction_n to_o be_v acknowledge_v on_o record_n as_o the_o case_n shall_v require_v and_o if_o any_o of_o the_o say_a officer_n shall_v hereafter_o offend_v in_o any_o of_o the_o case_n aforesaid_a and_o shall_v be_v thereof_o convict_v by_o examination_n of_o the_o judge_n in_o open_a court_n upon_o complaint_n of_o the_o party_n grieve_v or_o in_o default_n thereof_o by_o any_o other_o who_o shall_v inform_v the_o same_o that_o then_o and_o in_o every_o such_o case_n the_o officer_z or_o officer_n so_o offend_v shall_v for_o the_o first_o offence_n be_v by_o the_o say_a judge_n forthwith_o commit_v to_o the_o compter_n there_o to_o remain_v till_o he_o shall_v have_v pay_v down_o the_o sum_n of_o five_o pound_n the_o one_o moiety_n to_o the_o party_n grieve_v or_o in_o default_n of_o information_n to_o be_v give_v by_o he_o or_o they_o as_o aforesaid_a then_o to_o such_o other_o person_n or_o person_n who_o shall_v inform_v the_o same_o to_o the_o say_a court_n over_z and_o beside_o such_o remedy_n as_o the_o say_a party_n grieve_v may_v have_v by_o his_o or_o their_o action_n at_o law_n against_o the_o say_a officer_n or_o any_o of_o they_o for_o any_o of_o the_o default_n aforesaid_a and_o the_o other_o moiety_n to_o the_o relief_n of_o the_o poor_a prisoner_n in_o such_o of_o the_o say_a compter_n wherein_o the_o say_a cause_n be_v or_o shall_v be_v enter_v and_o if_o any_o of_o the_o say_a officer_n after_o he_o or_o they_o shall_v have_v be_v once_o convict_v of_o any_o of_o the_o offence_n aforesaid_a shall_v presume_v to_o offend_v in_o any_o of_o the_o say_a case_n the_o second_o time_n and_o be_v thereof_o convict_v as_o aforesaid_a that_o then_o and_o in_o every_o such_o case_n the_o say_a offender_n over_o and_o above_o all_o other_o penalty_n herein_o above_o limit_v and_o appoint_v shall_v be_v ipso_fw-la facto_fw-la absolute_o discharge_v from_o his_o say_a office_n and_o the_o sheriff_n of_o the_o city_n for_o the_o time_n be_v be_v hereby_o empower_v and_o require_v to_o nominate_v and_o present_v to_o the_o court_n of_o alderman_n some_o other_o fit_v person_n to_o be_v by_o they_o admit_v in_o his_o or_o their_o place_n as_o if_o the_o person_n so_o offend_v and_o convict_v as_o aforesaid_a be_v natural_o dead_a provide_v always_o that_o no_o informer_n shall_v be_v entitle_v to_o the_o moiety_n of_o the_o say_v five_o pound_n unless_o the_o say_a offender_n shall_v be_v convict_v by_o the_o evidence_n of_o one_o or_o more_o person_n indifferent_a and_o unconcerned_a to_o the_o profit_n or_o prejudice_n come_v by_o the_o default_n of_o the_o say_a officer_n ever_o since_o the_o make_n of_o this_o act_n my_o lord_n major_n warrant_n for_o remove_v cause_n out_o of_o the_o sheriff_n court_n into_o this_o court_n have_v be_v obey_v but_o as_o for_o the_o other_o matter_n they_o be_v not_o observe_v by_o the_o attorney_n in_o the_o sheriff_n court_n which_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o great_a charge_n plaintiff_n and_o defendant_n be_v compel_v to_o pay_v to_o try_v cause_n in_o that_o court_n in_o all_o attachment_n the_o person_n who_o money_n or_o good_n be_v attach_v be_v call_v the_o defendant_n in_o the_o attachment_n and_o the_o person_n in_o who_o hand_n the_o attachment_n be_v make_v be_v
