the_o parish-tax_n that_o be_v and_o shall_v be_v yearly_o raise_v by_o a_o act_n of_o this_o island_n entitle_v a_o act_n for_o the_o maintenance_n of_o minister_n and_o the_o poor_a and_o erect_v and_o repair_v of_o church_n by_o the_o constable_n or_o constable_n of_o the_o several_a parish_n or_o precinct_n and_o by_o they_o forthwith_o pay_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o churchwarden_n or_o churchwarden_n for_o the_o time_n be_v who_o shall_v and_o be_v hereby_o require_v to_o issue_n forth_o and_o pay_v the_o same_o to_o such_o person_n or_o person_n employ_v in_o guard_v watch_v or_o on_o look-outs_a as_o aforesaid_a by_o warrant_n from_o the_o chief_a officer_n of_o that_o place_n and_o that_o all_o and_o every_o person_n or_o person_n so_o employ_v and_o entrust_v in_o guard_v watch_v duty_n failure_n in_o duty_n and_o for_o look-outs_a that_o shall_v fail_v or_o neglect_v his_o or_o their_o duty_n according_a to_o the_o charge_n and_o trust_v give_v they_o shall_v day_n time_n and_o place_n as_o to_o they_o shall_v seem_v convenient_a empower_v justice_n etc._n etc._n empower_v who_o be_v hereby_o then_o and_o there_o impower_v to_o make_v and_o lay_v such_o tax_n as_o to_o they_o by_o the_o advice_n of_o the_o military_a officer_n of_o that_o place_n shall_v be_v think_v needful_a for_o the_o maintain_v and_o keep_v such_o guard_n watch_n and_o look-outs_a as_o shall_v be_v think_v requisite_a for_o the_o security_n of_o the_o inhabitant_n and_o prevent_v incursion_n of_o the_o enemy_n and_o that_o in_o such_o parish_n where_o there_o be_v collect_v the_o same_o any_o law_n custom_n or_o usage_n to_o the_o contrary_a notwithstanding_o consider_v parish_n of_o vere_n consider_v and_o whereas_o several_a of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o parish_n of_o vere_n have_v for_o the_o general_a good_a and_o particular_o for_o the_o safeguard_v of_o their_o parish_n subscribe_v to_o a_o paper_n in_o the_o whole_a sum_n of_o their_o parish_n tax_n they_o be_v assese_v at_o the_o last_o year_n and_o pay_v the_o same_o by_o way_n of_o loan_n unto_o their_o majesty_n for_o keep_v such_o guard_n and_o night-watche_n as_o aforesaid_a until_o they_o can_v be_v otherwise_o provide_v for_o by_o a_o act_n of_o the_o assembly_n nevertheless_o many_o of_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o the_o say_a parish_n have_v neglect_v and_o refuse_v to_o pay_v the_o same_o be_v it_o therefore_o enact_v and_o ordain_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o justice_n and_o vestry_n of_o they_o say_v parish_n be_v hereby_o require_v and_o impower_v at_o their_o first_o meeting_n in_o order_n to_o the_o maintain_v guard_n and_o look-outs_a as_o aforesaid_a to_o tax_n raise_v and_o cause_n to_o be_v levy_v such_o sum_n or_o sum_n of_o money_n as_o shall_v be_v make_v appear_v to_o they_o necessary_a to_o reimburse_v such_o person_n as_o have_v pay_v and_o expend_v their_o money_n for_o the_o watch_n and_o safeguard_v of_o the_o say_a parish_n according_a to_o the_o subscription_n as_o aforesaid_a over_o and_o above_o what_o it_o shall_v be_v think_v necessary_a by_o the_o justice_n and_o vestry_n with_o the_o advice_n of_o the_o chief_a military_a officer_n to_o raise_v and_o assess_v on_o the_o several_a inhabitant_n for_o maintain_v their_o guard_n and_o look-outs_a as_o aforesaid_a which_o say_v sum_n and_o sum_n of_o money_n so_o levy_v as_o aforesaid_a shall_v be_v by_o the_o churchwarden_n forthwith_o pay_v unto_o such_o person_n or_o person_n that_o have_v deposit_v and_o disburse_v their_o money_n for_o guard_v and_o look-outs_a according_a to_o the_o subscription_n aforesaid_a and_o whereas_o in_o some_o parish_n by_o reason_n of_o their_o long_a tract_n of_o land_n on_o the_o sea_n coast_n it_o will_v prove_v impossible_a to_o keep_v sufficient_a look-outs_a to_o give_v warn_v of_o the_o enemy_n approach_n without_o the_o help_n of_o beacon_n be_v it_o therefore_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o justice_n and_o vestry_n erect_v beacon_n to_o be_v erect_v or_o the_o justice_n within_o the_o commission_n of_o the_o peace_n where_o there_o be_v no_o vestry_n shall_v assess_v and_o levy_v at_o the_o usual_a time_n and_o time_n in_o manner_n aforesaid_a such_o sum_n and_o sum_n of_o money_n to_o erect_v and_o keep_v such_o and_o so_o many_o beacon_n and_o in_o such_o convenient_a place_n and_o place_n as_o a_o regimental_n court-martial_a shall_v think_v fit_a and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o all_o and_o every_o justice_n or_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n churchwarden_n or_o churchwarden_n that_o shall_v neglect_v or_o fail_v in_o the_o execution_n of_o he_o or_o their_o duty_n as_o aforesaid_a shall_v forfeit_v the_o sum_n of_o five_o pound_n for_o such_o his_o
act_n for_o raise_v money_n for_o and_o towards_o the_o defence_n of_o this_o island_n whereas_o it_o have_v be_v find_v by_o sad_a and_o lamentable_a experience_n preamble_n preamble_n that_o their_o not_o timely_o prevent_v destroy_v and_o unsettle_v all_o the_o plantation_n settle_v on_o or_o near_o the_o seacoast_n round_o this_o island_n to_o the_o great_a dishonour_n of_o their_o majesty_n proprietor_n owner_n possessor_n guardian_n or_o person_n entrust_v in_o the_o several_a plantation_n pen_n crawl_v or_o settlement_n within_o this_o island_n the_o sum_n of_o eighteen_o penny_n for_o and_o a_o attest_v copy_n of_o the_o say_a entry_n and_o claim_n as_o aforesaid_a shall_v be_v plead_v in_o any_o court_n and_o of_o as_o much_o authority_n force_n and_o validity_n in_o the_o law_n as_o this_o present_a act_n or_o special_a pardon_n under_o the_o broad_a seal_n as_o aforesaid_a any_o statute_n act_n law_n usage_n or_o custom_n to_o the_o contrary_a in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o secretary_n or_o clerk_n of_o the_o enrolment_n for_o the_o time_n be_v enrolment_n fee_fw-mi for_o enrolment_n shall_v not_o refuse_v to_o make_v entry_n of_o such_o claim_n and_o demand_v as_o aforesaid_a and_o give_v a_o attest_v copy_n thereof_o or_o take_v more_o than_o fifteen_o penny_n for_o such_o entry_n and_o the_o copy_n thereof_o under_o the_o penalty_n of_o ten_o pound_n for_o every_o such_o offence_n to_o be_v pay_v to_o he_o who_o by_o bill_n plaint_n information_n or_o action_n any_o constable_n or_o constable_n shall_v neglect_v he_o or_o their_o duty_n in_o collect_v gather_v or_o pay_v in_o the_o money_n so_o collect_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o act_n he_o or_o they_o so_o neglect_v his_o or_o their_o duty_n therein_o shall_v forfeit_v for_o every_o such_o offence_n the_o sum_n of_o twenty_o pound_n and_o in_o case_n any_o person_n or_o person_n shall_v refuse_v or_o and_o ordain_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o it_o shall_v and_o may_v be_v lawful_a to_o and_o for_o any_o two_o of_o their_o majesty_n justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o parish_n of_o port-royal_a aforesaid_a to_o issue_v out_o their_o warrant_n of_o distress_n direct_v to_o any_o constable_n of_o the_o say_a parish_n to_o levy_v the_o same_o upon_o the_o good_n or_o chattel_n if_o not_o above_o forty_o shilling_n before_o any_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n and_o if_o above-forty_a shilling_n in_o any_o court_n of_o record_n within_o this_o island_n wherein_o no_o at_o port-morant_a for_o their_o defence_n thereof_o and_o the_o security_n of_o the_o adjacent_a part_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o remainder_n limit_v and_o appoint_v in_o some_o of_o the_o parish_n within_o this_o island_n be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o where_o any_o tax_n mention_v to_o be_v raise_v by_o either_o of_o the_o above-recited_n act_n make_v re-assessment_a to_o be_v make_v and_o omit_v to_o be_v either_o assess_v or_o levy_v by_o the_o justice_n and_o vestry_n or_o the_o justice_n where_o the_o vestry_n neglect_v their_o duty_n or_o where_o no_o vestry_n be_v be_v impower_v at_o any_o other_o day_n or_o place_n within_o three_o month_n after_o the_o pass_v this_o act_n as_o
