the_o ephesian_n be_v build_v upon_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o prophet_n and_o apostle_n that_o be_v upon_o their_o doctrine_n ephes._n 2._o the_o same_o be_v the_o rock_n confess_v by_o peter_n upon_o which_o christ_n promise_v to_o build_v his_o church_n and_o yet_o in_o the_o second_o place_n we_o must_v not_o exclude_v the_o gift_n itself_o for_o although_o the_o doctrine_n be_v a_o foundation_n in_o itself_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o to_o we_o unless_o we_o believe_v it_o and_o apply_v it_o to_o ourselves_o by_o this_o gift_n if_o any_o man_n ask_v what_o doctrine_n be_v this_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o church_n and_o not_o the_o church_n the_o foundation_n of_o faith_n beware_v hence_o of_o a_o damnable_a doctrine_n of_o the_o popish_a church_n which_o teach_v that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o certainty_n of_o the_o point_n of_o religion_n no_o nor_o of_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o but_o only_o by_o the_o judgement_n of_o the_o present_a church_n of_o rome_n and_o that_o church_n must_v give_v what_o sense_n soever_o she_o please_v to_o the_o scripture_n else_o have_v it_o none_o wherein_o they_o play_v the_o part_n of_o preposterous_a builder_n house_n lay_v the_o foundation_n in_o the_o top_n of_o the_o build_n three_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v how_o any_o doctrine_n become_v a_o foundation_n unto_o the_o salvation_n of_o man_n answ._n proper_o to_o speak_v god_n and_o christ_n be_v our_o foundation_n and_o

that_o a_o man_n be_v to_o have_v confidence_n in_o christ_n but_o they_o include_v it_o under_o hope_n and_o will_v not_o permit_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v refer_v to_o faith_n because_o than_o they_o shall_v be_v draw_v to_o grant_v a_o special_a faith_n but_o that_o be_v erroneous_a see_v confidence_n be_v not_o of_o thing_n to_o come_v as_o hope_n be_v but_o of_o thing_n present_a and_o therefore_o although_o confidence_n go_v with_o hope_n yet_o it_o be_v no_o branch_n of_o it_o but_o proceed_v from_o faith_n second_o see_v this_o wait_a be_v a_o certain_a expectation_n of_o christ_n hence_o i_o gather_v that_o there_o be_v a_o special_a faith_n for_o if_o there_o be_v a_o special_a hope_n there_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o special_a faith_n to_o ground_n this_o special_a hope_n upon_o for_o we_o can_v never_o certain_o wait_v for_o that_o whereof_o we_o be_v uncertain_a whether_o it_o belong_v unto_o we_o or_o no_o he_o that_o have_v receive_v the_o earnest_n may_v certain_o wait_v for_o the_o whole_a sum_n but_o it_o be_v faith_n which_o receive_v the_o earnest_n of_o the_o spirit_n from_o whence_o our_o hope_n be_v raise_v heb._n 11.1_o now_o faith_n be_v
