he_o as_o thus_o engage_v against_o million_o of_o million_o of_o these_o soul_n yea_o against_o the_o whole_a mass_n or_o element_n of_o mankind_n a_o small_a remnant_n comparative_o only_o except_v and_o these_o for_o a_o long_a time_n if_o not_o during_o the_o whole_a term_n of_o their_o mortality_n undiscernible_a from_o the_o rest_n within_o the_o compass_n of_o which_o term_n notwithstanding_o they_o must_v be_v prevail_v with_o to_o love_n god_n or_o else_o they_o be_v lose_v for_o eternity_n three_o the_o say_a doctrine_n portraiture_v he_o engage_v as_o aforesaid_a before_o and_o without_o any_o consideration_n or_o respect_n have_v to_o any_o the_o future_a sin_n impenitency_n unbelief_n or_o any_o other_o of_o those_o against_o who_o it_o suppose_v he_o so_o implacable_o and_o unmerciful_o engage_v four_o and_o last_o it_o hold_v he_o forth_o unto_o the_o world_n as_o purpose_v and_o intend_v without_o any_o reasonable_a or_o equitable_a cause_n only_o upon_o his_o peremptory_a and_o mere_a will_n to_o make_v that_o vast_a difference_n between_o that_o small_a remnant_n of_o man_n mention_v and_o the_o numberless_a multitude_n of_o they_o beside_o which_o consist_v in_o the_o unmeasurable_a blessedness_n of_o the_o former_a and_o the_o unconceivable_a misery_n and_o torment_n of_o the_o latter_a now_o whether_o this_o be_v to_o form_v the_o most_o bless_a god_n in_o the_o mind_n judgement_n soul_n and_o conscience_n of_o man_n as_o amiable_a and_o lovely_a as_o attractive_a of_o their_o heart_n and_o affection_n as_o worthy_a to_o be_v delight_v in_o to_o be_v depend_v on_o by_o all_o person_n of_o mankind_n without_o exception_n of_o any_o for_o all_o and_o all_o manner_n of_o good_a temporal_a spiritual_a eternal_a i_o be_o not_o much_o afraid_a to_o make_v it_o the_o arbitrement_n of_o those_o that_o dare_v so_o much_o as_o pretend_v to_o ingenuity_n fairness_n and_o freedom_n of_o spirit_n among_o our_o adversary_n themselves_o if_o it_o be_v here_o reply_v and_o say_v that_o our_o doctrine_n also_o represent_v god_n as_o 1._o §._o 14._o object_n 1._o irreversible_o engage_v and_o this_o from_o eternity_n upon_o the_o same_o destruction_n or_o punishment_n and_o this_o of_o the_o same_o number_n of_o man_n with_o the_o other_o in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o grant_v or_o suppose_v that_o god_n from_o eternity_n unchangeable_o purpose_v the_o eternal_a destruction_n of_o all_o those_o without_o exception_n that_o shall_v remain_v final_o impenitent_a and_o unbelieved_a which_o be_v the_o same_o man_n both_o for_o number_n and_o personality_n which_o the_o other_o doctrine_n so_o much_o oppose_v by_o we_o present_v as_o the_o object_n of_o those_o unalterable_a reprobate_v purpose_n or_o intendment_n of_o his_o from_o eternity_n and_o consequent_o that_o the_o one_o doctrine_n represent_v god_n as_o little_a lovely_a or_o desirable_a unto_o his_o creature_n as_o the_o other_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v 1._o though_o the_o doctrine_n assert_v by_o we_o suppose_v such_o a_o decree_n in_o god_n answ_n from_o eternity_n whereby_o all_o person_n that_o shall_v remain_v final_o impenitent_a and_o unbelieved_a be_v decree_v or_o adjudge_v unto_o the_o vengeance_n of_o eternal_a fire_n yet_o do_v it_o not_o adjudge_v to_o this_o account_n any_o such_o who_o either_o through_o defect_n of_o year_n as_o child_n die_v infant_n or_o defectiveness_n in_o discretion_n otherwise_o be_v not_o capable_a of_o faith_n or_o repentance_n of_o which_o we_o have_v already_o in_o part_n give_v a_o account_n etc._n account_n cap._n 6._o sect._n 18_o 19_o etc._n etc._n and_o shall_v god_n willing_a account_v more_o full_o in_o the_o latter_a part_n of_o this_o discourse_n whereas_o the_o doctrine_n impugn_a by_o we_o include_v as_o well_o infant_n of_o day_n as_o defective_n of_o year_n especial_o the_o former_a in_o that_o decree_n of_o reprobation_n which_o it_o notion_v in_o god_n so_o that_o this_o doctrine_n do_v at_o no_o hand_n engage_v god_n so_o deep_a in_o the_o blood_n of_o mankind_n as_o the_o other_o and_o consequent_o in_o this_o respect_n render_v he_o unto_o his_o creature_n far_o more_o gracious_a lovely_a and_o desirable_a than_o the_o other_o 2._o the_o doctrine_n we_o plead_v though_o it_o set_v the_o face_n of_o god_n reprobate_v decree_n against_o all_o final_o impenitent_a and_o unbelieved_a and_o so_o material_o and_o in_o a_o consequential_a way_n against_o the_o same_o person_n capable_a of_o impenitency_n which_o the_o other_o doctrine_n subject_v unto_o it_o yet_o 1._o it_o subject_v no_o person_n of_o mankind_n as_o such_o or_o by_o name_n unto_o it_o but_o suppose_v all_o man_n as_o man_n in_o a_o capacity_n and_o under_o a_o fair_a possibility_n of_o be_v elect_v this_o decree_n of_o reprobation_n notwithstanding_o though_o it_o conclude_v from_o many_o prophetical_a scripture_n otherwise_o that_o a_o very_a great_a number_n of_o man_n will_v in_o time_n be_v reprobate_v for_o their_o wickedness_n and_o unbelief_n whereas_o the_o doctrine_n oppose_v bend_v this_o decree_n against_o the_o person_n of_o man_n personal_o consider_v and_o so_o leave_v such_o and_o such_o man_n from_o first_o to_o last_o irrecoverable_o doom_v to_o destruction_n 2._o the_o doctrine_n assert_v by_o we_o present_v god_n in_o his_o decree_n of_o reprobation_n as_o true_o and_o real_o intend_v the_o salvation_n of_o man_n as_o in_o his_o decree_n of_o election_n itself_o yea_o and_o question_v not_o but_o that_o his_o decree_n of_o reprobation_n according_a to_o his_o gracious_a purpose_n and_o intendment_n therein_o have_v occasion_v and_o do_v occasion_n daily_o the_o salvation_n of_o many_o the_o principal_a intent_n of_o the_o law_n threaten_v such_o and_o such_o malefactor_n as_o traitor_n murderer_n etc._n etc._n with_o death_n be_v not_o to_o take_v away_o the_o life_n of_o such_o person_n who_o shall_v commit_v these_o foul_a crime_n and_o misdemeanour_n by_o death_n this_o be_v but_o the_o subordinate_a intention_n or_o end_n of_o it_o but_o to_o prevent_v the_o perpetration_n of_o these_o crime_n in_o all_o that_o live_v under_o this_o law_n and_o consequent_o their_o suffering_n of_o death_n for_o they_o much_o less_o be_v it_o any_o part_n of_o the_o intent_n of_o such_o a_o law_n to_o make_v any_o person_n or_o person_n by_o name_n traitor_n murderer_n or_o the_o like_a that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v cut_v off_o by_o death_n in_o like_a manner_n we_o judge_v and_o teach_v that_o the_o sovereign_a and_o primary_n intent_n of_o this_o decree_n of_o god_n he_o i._n e._n whosoever_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v damn_v 16_o damn_v mark_v 16._o 16_o beside_o which_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o substance_n and_o import_n of_o it_o which_o may_v be_v express_v in_o other_o term_n we_o find_v no_o decree_n of_o reprobation_n in_o god_n mention_v no_o nor_o yet_o so_o much_o as_o intimate_v in_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o to_o bring_v damnation_n upon_o those_o who_o shall_v not_o believe_v much_o less_o to_o expose_v any_o man_n or_o number_n of_o man_n to_o a_o unavoidable_a necessity_n of_o a_o non-beleeving_a that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v damn_v
but_o to_o prevent_v the_o sin_n of_o unbelief_n in_o all_o man_n in_o order_n to_o their_o non-damnation_n and_o that_o they_o may_v be_v save_v 3._o and_o last_o the_o doctrine_n which_o avouch_v that_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o man_n clear_o resolve_v the_o reprobation_n of_o all_o that_o be_v or_o ever_o come_v to_o be_v reprobate_v into_o themselves_o or_o their_o own_o voluntary_a and_o deliberate_a course_n of_o sin_v or_o persist_v in_o unbelief_n as_o the_o cause_n thereof_o and_o so_o fair_o discharge_v god_n and_o his_o decree_n as_o no_o way_n accessary_a unto_o it_o whereas_o the_o adverse_a opinion_n resolve_v it_o into_o the_o mere_a pleasure_n or_o peremptory_a will_n of_o god_n in_o his_o decree_n of_o reprobation_n affirm_v this_o to_o be_v the_o principal_a if_o not_o the_o sole_a and_o adequate_a cause_n of_o it_o so_o that_o there_o be_v a_o very_a vast_a difference_n between_o the_o one_o opinion_n and_o the_o other_o in_o their_o respective_a representation_n of_o god_n unto_o his_o creature_n in_o point_n of_o grace_n goodness_n and_o loveliness_n on_o the_o one_o hand_n as_o of_o rigour_n hardness_n and_o unloveliness_n on_o the_o other_o hand_n it_o be_v true_a god_n be_v very_o severe_a terrible_a and_o unrelenting_a in_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o penal_a decree_n upon_o those_o who_o voluntary_o expose_v themselves_o to_o the_o doom_n and_o dint_n of_o they_o in_o which_o respect_n the_o scripture_n speak_v oft_o of_o his_o severity_n but_o in_o the_o frame_n of_o they_o his_o primary_n intention_n be_v as_o have_v be_v say_v gracious_a no_o way_n inconsistent_a with_o or_o repugnant_a to_o the_o peace_n and_o comfort_n of_o any_o of_o his_o creature_n but_o calculate_v with_o dueness_n of_o proportion_n and_o respect_n for_o the_o advancement_n of_o they_o yet_o 2._o against_o the_o main_a argument_n last_o insist_v upon_o it_o may_v be_v further_o object_v 2._o §._o 15._o object_n 2._o they_o who_o deny_v that_o christ_n die_v for_o any_o but_o for_o the_o elect_a only_o represent_v god_n altogether_o as_o gracious_a and_o lovely_a unto_o his_o creature_n as_o they_o who_o affirm_v that_o he_o die_v for_o all_o because_o the_o former_a hold_n and_o teach_v withal_o that_o god_n real_o intend_v that_o all_o those_o for_o who_o christ_n die_v shall_v be_v actual_o save_v hereby_o whereas_o the_o latter_a hold_n that_o though_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o yet_o he_o die_v only_o so_o or_o upon_o such_o term_n for_o they_o that_o notwithstanding_o his_o die_v for_o they_o they_o may_v all_o perish_v now_o do_v it_o not_o argue_v as_o much_o or_o more_o grace_n and_o goodness_n in_o god_n to_o provide_v certain_o and_o above_o all_o possibility_n of_o miscarry_v for_o the_o salvation_n of_o a_o few_o then_o to_o provide_v a_o bare_a possibility_n only_o of_o salvation_n for_o all_o or_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o after_o such_o a_o manner_n and_o upon_o such_o term_n only_o that_o all_o notwithstanding_o this_o provision_n make_v for_o they_o may_v very_o possible_o perish_v to_o this_o also_o i_o answer_v 1._o that_o they_o who_o teach_v that_o christ_n die_v for_o all_o man_n do_v not_o teach_v that_o answ_n he_o die_v to_o make_v provision_n only_o for_o a_o bare_a possibility_n that_o all_o may_v be_v save_v but_o such_o a_o provision_n which_o be_v full_o and_o rich_o sufficient_a for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n yea_o so_o sufficient_a that_o all_o man_n if_o they_o be_v not_o intolerable_o and_o unexcusable_o negligent_a and_o careless_a in_o a_o matter_n of_o so_o transcendent_a a_o concernment_n unto_o they_o may_v and_o most_o certain_o shall_v be_v save_v the_o provision_n which_o god_n have_v make_v by_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o be_v so_o redundant_o plentiful_a that_o there_o be_v no_o place_n or_o possibility_n leave_v for_o the_o miscarry_v of_o any_o man_n but_o by_o a_o neglect_n of_o it_o only_o how_o shall_v we_o escape_v say_v the_o apostle_n if_o we_o neglect_v so_o great_a a_o salvation_n 3_o salvation_n hebr._n 2._o 3_o etc._n etc._n clear_o imply_v that_o if_o they_o do_v not_o neglect_v it_o but_o serious_o and_o diligent_o mind_n and_o look_v after_o it_o they_o shall_v escape_v viz._n the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o the_o vengeance_n of_o hell_n fire_n and_o consequent_o be_v save_v otherwise_o in_o case_n their_o regard_n or_o esteem_v of_o this_o salvation_n shall_v be_v accompany_v with_o the_o same_o danger_n or_o destruction_n which_o their_o neglect_n will_v bring_v upon_o they_o the_o apostle_n may_v as_o well_o or_o indeed_o rather_o have_v say_v how_o shall_v we_o escape_v whether_o we_o neglect_v this_o great_a salvation_n or_o no_o 2._o there_o be_v no_o comparison_n for_o matter_n of_o grace_n goodness_n or_o bounty_n between_o such_o a_o provision_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n without_o exception_n whereby_o all_o and_o every_o person_n may_v if_o they_o be_v not_o wilful_o bend_v upon_o their_o own_o destruction_n be_v save_v and_o between_o such_o whereby_o there_o be_v no_o possibility_n save_v only_o for_o a_o few_o a_o number_n inconsiderable_a compare_v with_o the_o whole_a to_o be_v save_v nor_o be_v that_o certainty_n or_o necessity_n of_o the_o salvation_n of_o a_o few_o which_o be_v pretend_v to_o be_v consult_v or_o intend_v in_o this_o latter_a provision_n be_v accompany_v with_o the_o exposure_n of_o so_o many_o million_o of_o million_o of_o precious_a soul_n to_o inevitable_a damnation_n any_o way_n considerable_a in_o point_n of_o grace_n with_o that_o great_a and_o bless_a opportunity_n which_o by_o the_o former_a provision_n be_v put_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o world_n and_o of_o every_o person_n of_o mankind_n without_o exception_n to_o escape_v the_o vengeance_n which_o â—s_v to_o come_v if_o they_o please_v and_o withal_o to_o be_v crown_v with_o a_o incorruptible_a crown_n of_o glory_n especial_o if_o it_o be_v consider_v withal_o that_o he_o that_o make_v such_o a_o provision_n for_o a_o few_o have_v wherewithal_o in_o abundance_n and_o this_o disposable_a contrivable_a to_o no_o other_o use_n or_o purpose_n to_o have_v provide_v upon_o the_o same_o term_n for_o all_o and_o that_o all_o the_o reason_n he_o have_v for_o his_o non-disposing_a of_o it_o this_o way_n i_o mean_v for_o the_o benefit_n and_o blessing_n of_o all_o be_v only_o his_o mere_a will_n and_o pleasure_n suppose_v a_o man_n have_v a_o thousand_o quarter_n of_o wheat_n or_o the_o like_a which_o he_o know_v not_o what_o to_o do_v with_o or_o to_o what_o use_n to_o convert_v it_o but_o only_o to_o the_o relief_n of_o a_o company_n of_o poor_a indigent_a creature_n ready_a to_o be_v affamished_a and_o perish_v through_o hunger_n in_o case_n this_o man_n shall_v actual_o relieve_v only_o two_o or_o three_o person_n in_o this_o distress_n with_o part_n of_o this_o abundance_n there_o be_v a_o thousand_o before_o he_o in_o the_o same_o extremity_n and_o in_o no_o possibility_n of_o be_v relieve_v from_o any_o other_o hand_n but_o shall_v rather_o choose_v to_o cast_v the_o residue_n of_o his_o grain_n into_o the_o sea_n or_o bury_v it_o under_o ground_n or_o some_o way_n or_o other_o destroy_v the_o serviceableness_n of_o it_o unto_o man_n then_o dispose_v of_o it_o towards_o the_o relief_n of_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n will_v not_o such_o a_o act_n as_o this_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o unnaturalness_n and_o affectate_v unmercifulness_n of_o it_o quite_o drown_v the_o grace_n and_o loveliness_n of_o his_o charity_n in_o relieve_v those_o few_o in_o like_a manner_n they_o who_o pretend_v the_o exaltation_n of_o the_o grace_n and_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o salvation_n of_o those_o few_o by_o it_o then_o to_o accommodate_v and_o relieve_v thereby_o the_o residue_n of_o mankind_n in_o their_o sad_a and_o utmost_a extremity_n what_o do_v they_o less_o than_o bury_v all_o that_o which_o be_v lovely_a in_o that_o act_n of_o grace_n or_o mercy_n towards_o a_o few_o under_o the_o imputation_n of_o so_o great_a a_o unmercifulness_n or_o hardness_n of_o bowel_n towards_o many_o at_o this_o turn_v it_o be_v common_o plead_v that_o god_n be_v no_o debtor_n to_o any_o of_o his_o object_n §._o 16._o object_n creature_n and_o

he_o pass_v that_o most_o dreadful_a doom_n or_o decree_n of_o a_o eternal_a reprobation_n against_o they_o whereas_o the_o scripture_n every_o where_o commend_v and_o high_o magnify_v the_o constant_a love_n care_n and_o respect_n of_o god_n towards_o the_o righteous_a the_o righteous_a lord_n say_v david_n love_v righteousness_n and_o his_o countenance_n do_v behold_v the_o upright_a 7_o upright_a psa_fw-la 11._o 7_o and_o again_o for_o thou_o lord_n will_v bless_v the_o righteous_a with_o favour_n will_v thou_o compass_v he_o as_o with_o a_o shield_n 12_o shield_n psa_fw-la 5._o appear_v 1._o that_o god_n behold_v and_o see_v and_o can_v but_o behold_v and_o see_v those_o that_o be_v righteous_a 2._o that_o see_v and_o behold_v they_o such_o he_o always_o love_v they_o and_o delight_n in_o they_o therefore_o it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o god_n at_o any_o time_n shall_v not_o see_v and_o behold_v the_o person_n we_o speak_v of_o be_v righteous_a and_o while_o righteous_a
