further_o give_v we_o the_o true_a possession_n of_o all_o temporal_a
skill_v what_o be_v pure_a what_o not_o either_o in_o doctrine_n life_n or_o manner_n and_o then_o know_v that_o let_v we_o care_n and_o study_v to_o be_v pure_a and_o sincere_a and_o without_o all_o leaven_n of_o corruption_n either_o in_o doctrine_n life_n or_o manner_n the_o three_o thing_n wherefore_o the_o apostle_n pray_v that_o the_o philippian_n may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n be_v that_o they_o may_v be_v without_o offence_n .1_o that_o they_o may_v not_o stumble_v at_o any_o thing_n but_o hold_v on_o in_o a_o constant_a course_n without_o stumble_v or_o slip_a baâ—ke_n or_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n until_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n when_o their_o constant_a perseverance_n shall_v be_v reward_v for_o the_o apostle_n desire_n be_v 1._o that_o they_o may_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v thing_n that_o differ_v what_o be_v corrupt_a and_o bad_a and_o what_o be_v pure_a and_o good_a 2._o that_o be_v able_a to_o discern_v and_o try_v all_o thing_n they_o may_v keep_v that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o may_v be_v pure_a from_o all_o leaven_n of_o corruption_n 3._o that_o be_v pure_a from_o all_o leaven_n of_o corruption_n they_o may_v keep_v a_o constant_a course_n in_o their_o purity_n without_o stumble_v or_o shrink_v back_o or_o stand_v at_o a_o stay_n and_o for_o these_o cause_n he_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n etc._n etc._n whence_o i_o observe_v a_o three_o employment_n very_o behooveful_a for_o all_o christian_n namely_o that_o be_v in_o a_o good_a course_n they_o hold_v on_o without_o stumble_v or_o stand_v or_o shrink_v be_v pure_a and_o clear_a from_o all_o leaven_n of_o corruption_n they_o keep_v themselves_o so_o until_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n begin_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o to_o end_v in_o the_o flesh_n but_o have_v begin_v in_o the_o spirit_n by_o embrace_v the_o pure_a doctrine_n of_o jesus_n christ_n they_o shall_v end_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o hold_v fast_o that_o pure_a doctrine_n which_o they_o have_v embrace_v even_o until_o the_o day_n of_o christ_n so_o that_o have_v obey_v the_o truth_n we_o be_v not_o to_o yield_v to_o any_o corruption_n of_o the_o truth_n or_o to_o let_v our_o hold_n slip_v but_o to_o hold_v fast_o the_o same_o unto_o the_o end_n it_o be_v for_o the_o dog_n to_o return_v to_o his_o own_o vomit_n and_o for_o the_o sow_n that_o be_v wash_v to_o return_v to_o she_o wallow_v in_o the_o mire_n but_o the_o man_n that_o have_v put_v his_o hand_n to_o the_o plough_n look_v back_o 9.62_o luk._n 9.62_o pass_v i_o will_v not_o far_o trouble_v you_o only_o with_o the_o apostle_n i_o pray_v that_o your_o love_n may_v abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o knowledge_n and_o in_o all_o judgement_n etc._n be_v call_v the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n for_o this_o show_v that_o the_o very_a matter_n and_o substance_n of_o good_a work_n be_v those_o good_a action_n which_o as_o good_a fruit_n grow_v and_o spring_v out_o of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n in_o us._n the_o formal_a cause_n or_o reason_n which_o cause_v our_o work_n to_o be_v good_a work_n be_v hereby_o likewise_o know_v that_o they_o be_v call_v the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n for_o this_o show_v that_o the_o reason_n why_o our_o work_n be_v good_a work_n be_v because_o of_o their_o conformity_n unto_o the_o law_n of_o god_n because_o they_o be_v do_v in_o righteousness_n according_a to_o the_o righteous_a law_n of_o god_n the_o efficient_a cause_n or_o author_n from_o who_o good_a work_n be_v be_v hereby_o know_v that_o it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o be_v by_o jesus_n christ_n for_o this_o show_v that_o jesus_n christ_n work_v in_o we_o whatsoever_o work_n be_v good_a &_o agreeable_a to_o the_o righteous_a law_n of_o god_n the_o final_a cause_n or_o end_n of_o good_a work_n whereunto_o they_o be_v to_o be_v refer_v wherefore_o they_o be_v to_o be_v do_v be_v hereby_o know_v that_o it_o be_v say_v that_o end_v before_o speak_v of_o so_o for_o this_o that_o they_o may_v be_v fill_v with_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n that_o they_o may_v abound_v in_o every_o good_a work_n my_o observation_n hence_o be_v that_o we_o be_v not_o only_o to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a and_o to_o work_v the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n but_o we_o be_v to_o abound_v in_o every_o good_a work_n to_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n to_o do_v good_a and_o to_o have_v our_o fruit_n in_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n be_v a_o thing_n much_o urge_v and_o often_o command_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o the_o scripture_n and_o it_o be_v so_o clear_a a_o case_n that_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v or_o shift_v but_o that_o we_o be_v to_o do_v the_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a &_o to_o work_v the_o work_n of_o righteousness_n yet_o so_o cunning_a be_v we_o to_o deceive_v ourselves_o that_o if_o at_o sometime_o we_o have_v do_v some_o thing_n well_o we_o think_v we_o have_v obey_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n herein_o though_o we_o come_v far_o short_a of_o be_v fill_v with_o the_o the_o fruit_n of_o righteousness_n the_o holy_a ghost_n therefore_o to_o meet_v with_o our_o foolish_a wisdom_n and_o to_o clear_v the_o point_n plain_o show_v in_o many_o place_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o as_o we_o be_v to_o show_v forth_o good_a work_n so_o we_o be_v to_o
heart_n to_o think_v a_o good_a thought_n this_o be_v from_o the_o lord_n for_o we_o be_v not_o sufficient_a of_o ourselves_o to_o think_v any_o thing_n as_o of_o ourselves_o but_o all_o our_o sufficiency_n be_v of_o god_n to_o will_n and_o desire_n that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o to_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a be_v likewise_o from_o the_o lord_n for_o it_o be_v god_n that_o work_v in_o we_o both_o the_o will_n and_o the_o deed_n so_o true_a be_v that_o of_o our_o saviour_n 15.5_o joh._n 15.5_o without_o i_o you_o can_v do_v nothing_o where_o the_o meaning_n be_v not_o only_o that_o we_o be_v so_o weak_a that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a of_o ourselves_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a unless_o we_o be_v assist_v by_o grace_n but_o that_o we_o be_v no_o more_o able_a than_o the_o branch_n that_o be_v pluck_v from_o the_o tree_n be_v able_a to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n the_o sum_n of_o this_o point_n be_v that_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o we_o be_v altogether_o from_o the_o spirit_n even_o as_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o flesh_n be_v altogether_o from_o the_o flesh_n do_v thou_o then_o at_o any_o time_n feel_v any_o good_a motion_n of_o the_o he_o desire_v to_o die_v when_o he_o pray_v and_o say_v it_o be_v enough_o o_o lord_n take_v my_o soul_n for_o i_o be_o no_o better_a than_o my_o father_n and_o so_o we_o say_v that_o a_o christian_n may_v desire_v to_o die_v when_o the_o lord_n his_o will_n be_v not_o for_o that_o death_n in_o itself_o be_v to_o be_v desire_v but_o because_o he_o desire_v to_o be_v with_o christ_n so_o that_o the_o thing_n which_o a_o christian_a desire_v simple_o and_o in_o itself_o be_v to_o be_v with_o christ_n neither_o do_v he_o otherwise_o desire_v to_o be_v loose_v but_o that_o he_o may_v be_v with_o christ_n and_o so_o we_o say_v he_o may_v desire_v to_o be_v loose_v when_o the_o lord_n his_o will_n be_v and_o thus_o much_o for_o this_o which_o be_v the_o chief_a point_n in_o these_o word_n whence_o you_o see_v that_o a_o christian_a in_o respect_n of_o himself_o may_v desire_v rather_o to_o die_v than_o to_o live_v other_o thing_n there_o be_v which_o may_v not_o unfruitful_o be_v note_v in_o these_o word_n which_o i_o will_v only_o brief_o touch_v
his_o come_n and_o not_o to_o stand_v upon_o many_o place_n when_o our_o apostle_n here_o say_v if_o there_o be_v any_o consolation_n in_o christ_n etc._n etc._n what_o else_o be_v this_o but_o a_o adjuration_n of_o the_o philippian_n by_o these_o thing_n that_o they_o like_v mind_v etc._n etc._n albeit_o therefore_o we_o be_v to_o remit_v of_o that_o which_o we_o may_v do_v and_o of_o that_o which_o sometime_o you_o constrain_v we_o to_o do_v and_o not_o to_o threaten_v or_o command_v but_o only_o to_o beseech_v you_o in_o christ_n jesus_n yet_o be_v you_o to_o take_v our_o beseech_v of_o they_o or_o in_o his_o name_n we_o command_v they_o or_o out_o of_o the_o law_n we_o threaten_v they_o they_o will_v not_o come_v to_o hear_v we_o they_o will_v none_o of_o our_o instruction_n but_o i_o leave_v they_o unto_o he_o unto_o who_o they_o stand_v or_o fall_v and_o i_o beseech_v you_o belove_a by_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n to_o continue_v in_o the_o grace_n wherein_o you_o stand_v many_o place_n requite_v with_o too_o too_o great_a cause_n of_o heaviness_n let_v the_o faithful_a minister_n now_o say_v unto_o he_o that_o have_v receive_v great_a comfort_n in_o christ_n jesus_n by_o his_o labour_n if_o there_o be_v any_o consolation_n in_o christ_n if_o you_o have_v receive_v any_o comfort_n in_o christ_n jesus_n by_o my_o ministry_n let_v i_o beseech_v you_o that_o you_o set_v not_o your_o affection_n so_o much_o on_o thing_n which_o be_v on_o the_o earth_n that_o you_o will_v bridle_v your_o inordinate_a desire_n which_o run_v too_o much_o after_o covetousness_n that_o you_o will_v not_o lend_v your_o money_n upon_o usury_n etc._n etc._n and_o how_o seldom_o do_v he_o receive_v this_o comfort_n from_o they_o again_o thus_o to_o prevail_v with_o he_o nay_o jesus_n let_v they_o receive_v this_o comfort_n again_o from_o you_o that_o their_o holy_a desire_n may_v prevail_v with_o you_o his_o second_o argument_n be_v if_o there_o be_v any_o comfort_n of_o love_n that_o be_v if_o you_o so_o love_v i_o that_o you_o desire_v my_o comfort_n in_o my_o bond_n for_o the_o defence_n of_o the_o gospel_n then_o fulfil_v my_o joy_n etc._n etc._n the_o ground_n to_o the_o holy_a desire_n of_o such_o as_o will_v glad_o have_v comfort_n of_o our_o good_a even_o for_o want_v of_o love_n of_o they_o if_o sinner_n shall_v entice_v we_o and_o say_v come_v with_o we_o we_o will_v lay_v wait_v for_o blood_n 1.10.11.12_o prou._n 1.10.11.12_o and_o lie_v privy_o for_o the_o innocent_a without_o a_o cause_n we_o will_v swallow_v they_o up_o alive_a like_o a_o grave_n even_o whole_a as_o those_o that_o go_v down_o to_o the_o pit_n etc._n etc._n we_o be_v ready_a enough_o to_o yield_v ourselves_o unto_o their_o will_n and_o to_o run_v as_o fast_o as_o they_o for_o their_o life_n unto_o mischief_n but_o let_v the_o pastor_n say_v to_o his_o people_n if_o you_o so_o love_v i_o that_o you_o desire_v my_o comfort_n profane_v not_o the_o lord_n his_o sabboth_n break_v off_o your_o sin_n by_o righteousness_n and_o your_o iniquity_n by_o mercy_n towards_o the_o poor_a or_o the_o father_n to_o the_o child_n if_o thou_o so_o love_v i_o that_o thou_o desire_v my_o comfort_n refrain_v thy_o foot_n from_o every_o evil_a path_n and_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n or_o the_o friend_n unto_o his_o friend_n if_o thou_o so_o love_v i_o that_o thou_o god_n submit_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n who_o will_v dislodge_v they_o when_o it_o seem_v best_a to_o his_o godly_a wisdom_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n let_v they_o this_o know_v and_o therein_o comfort_v themselves_o that_o howsoever_o their_o fight_n be_v long_o and_o great_a yet_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v so_o do_v with_o their_o enemy_n as_o judah_n deal_v with_o adonibezek_n 1.6_o judg._n 1.6_o even_o cut_v off_o the_o thumb_n of_o their_o hand_n and_o foot_n that_o be_v so_o abate_v their_o power_n and_o break_v their_o strength_n that_o though_o they_o continual_o assault_v they_o yet_o can_v they_o never_o prevail_v against_o they_o this_o therefore_o i_o do_v not_o say_v as_o if_o i_o like_v that_o any_o shall_v desire_v to_o die_v before_o his_o time_n be_v unwilling_a to_o lay_v down_o our_o life_n but_o rather_o be_v then_o glad_a and_o rejoice_v that_o our_o warfare_n be_v at_o a_o end_n and_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v join_v with_o our_o head_n christ_n jesus_n a_o man_n will_v think_v we_o shall_v great_o desire_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o these_o misery_n whereunto_o this_o life_n be_v subject_a rather_o to_o triumph_v over_o our_o enemy_n then_o to_o live_v still_o at_o the_o staff_n end_n with_o they_o rather_o to_o reign_v with_o christ_n in_o the_o valley_n of_o blessing_n where_o there_o be_v peace_n and_o joy_n and_o life_n for_o evermore_o then_o to_o fight_v under_o christ_n in_o the_o valley_n of_o tear_n where_o he_o shall_v bear_v away_o many_o stroke_n though_o not_o any_o deadly_a wound_n because_o his_o life_n be_v hide_v with_o christ_n in_o god_n what_o then_o shall_v be_v the_o cause_n why_o we_o shall_v not_o most_o willing_o lay_v down_o our_o life_n in_o the_o time_n of_o death_n sure_o in_o my_o judgement_n it_o be_v because_o in_o the_o time_n of_o our_o health_n we_o mind_n too_o much_o earthly_a thing_n and_o set_v our_o affection_n too_o little_a on_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v above_o for_o if_o in_o the_o time_n of_o our_o health_n our_o conversation_n be_v in_o heaven_n as_o it_o shall_v be_v we_o will_v most_o patient_o and_o willing_o look_v for_o the_o saviour_n even_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o shall_v change_v our_o vile_a body_n that_o it_o may_v be_v fashion_v like_o unto_o his_o glorious_a body_n and_o when_o death_n approach_v we_o will_v cry_v with_o the_o apostle_n come_v lord_n jesus_n come_v quick_o to_o conclude_v this_o point_n therefore_o when_o our_o time_n appoint_v of_o the_o lord_n come_v let_v we_o willing_o lay_v down_o our_o life_n and_o let_v we_o be_v glad_a and_o rejoice_v that_o our_o warfare_n be_v at_o a_o end_n and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o in_o the_o time_n of_o death_n we_o may_v do_v so_o let_v our_o conversation_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n in_o the_o time_n of_o health_n be_v in_o heaven_n let_v we_o set_v our_o affection_n on_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v above_o and_o not_o on_o the_o thing_n which_o be_v on_o the_o earth_n for_o he_o long_v after_o all_o you_o etc._n etc._n in_o these_o word_n the_o apostle_n set_v down_o the_o cause_n why_o he_o now_o present_o send_v epaphroditus_n unto_o the_o philippian_n and_o do_v not_o stay_v he_o till_o either_o timothy_n or_o himself_o shall_v come_v unto_o they_o the_o cause_n be_v as_o appear_v by_o the_o apostle_n because_o epaphroditus_n great_o long_v it_o be_v not_o say_v after_o his_o own_o people_n and_o they_o of_o his_o own_o family_n but_o because_o he_o long_v after_o the_o church_n at_o philippi_n neither_o so_o only_o but_o after_o all_o the_o church_n at_o philippi_n neither_o do_v he_o only_o long_a after_o they_o all_o but_o so_o he_o long_v that_o he_o be_v full_a of_o heaviness_n till_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o they_o and_o why_o do_v he_o so_o long_o after_o they_o that_o he_o be_v full_a of_o heaviness_n till_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o they_o the_o apostle_n say_v because_o the_o philippian_n have_v hear_v of_o his_o sickness_n epaphroditus_n then_o long_v after_o all_o the_o church_n at_o philippi_n and_o be_v full_a of_o heaviness_n till_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o they_o and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n send_v he_o present_o unto_o they_o and_o again_o epaphroditus_n know_v that_o the_o philippian_n have_v hear_v of_o his_o sickness_n and_o therefore_o he_o long_v after_o they_o all_o and_o be_v full_a of_o heaviness_n till_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o they_o to_o knit_v up_o then_o both_o the_o cause_n in_o one_o and_o to_o gather_v the_o sum_n of_o all_o the_o cause_n why_o the_o apostle_n send_v epaphroditus_n now_o present_o unto_o they_o be_v because_o epaphroditus_n have_v hear_v that_o the_o philippian_n know_v of_o his_o sickness_n long_v great_o after_o they_o all_o and_o be_v full_a of_o heaviness_n till_o he_o may_v come_v unto_o they_o and_o comfort_v they_o over_o his_o sickness_n lest_o they_o shall_v be_v swallow_v up_o of_o too_o much_o grief_n for_o both_o paul_n band_n and_o his_o sickness_n here_o than_o i_o note_v what_o mutual_a love_n and_o affection_n there_o shall_v be_v between_o the_o pastor_n and_o his_o people_n even_o the_o like_a that_o be_v between_o epaphroditus_n and_o his_o people_n of_o philippi_n the_o pastor_n his_o sickness_n or_o sorrow_n whatsoever_o shall_v be_v the_o people_n sorrow_n and_o heaviness_n of_o heart_n and_o again_o the_o people_n trouble_n of_o mind_n or_o affliction_n of_o body_n shall_v be_v the_o pastor_n anguish_n of_o soul_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n so_o it_o be_v between_o epaphroditus_n and_o his_o church_n at_o philippi_n as_o here_o we_o see_v and_o so_o it_o be_v between_o paul_n and_o all_o the_o church_n at_o least_o on_o his_o part_n as_o himself_o witness_v say_v that_o such_o be_v his_o care_n of_o all_o the_o church_n 11.29_o 2_o cor._n 11.29_o that_o if_o any_o be_v weak_a he_o be_v also_o weak_a and_o if_o any_o be_v offend_v he_o also_o burn_v and_o i_o wish_v i_o can_v true_o instance_n in_o the_o like_a affection_n between_o many_o pastor_n and_o their_o people_n in_o this_o our_o day_n but_o such_o example_n be_v not_o every_o where_n with_o we_o nay_o in_o too_o many_o place_n with_o we_o the_o pastor_n care_v not_o if_o he_o may_v have_v their_o fleece_n though_o he_o never_o see_v or_o hear_v of_o his_o people_n and_o flock_n and_o again_o in_o too_o many_o place_n the_o people_n care_v not_o if_o they_o may_v have_v their_o forth_o in_o their_o own_o delight_n and_o desire_n though_o they_o never_o see_v or_o hear_v of_o their_o pastor_n yea_o so_o far_o be_v they_o from_o this_o sympathy_n and_o mutual_a love_n and_o affection_n one_o towards_o another_o that_o so_o the_o one_o may_v have_v his_o profit_n and_o the_o other_o their_o pleasure_n they_o be_v not_o much_o touch_v without_o any_o further_a respect_n either_o of_o other_o well_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v so_o but_o the_o joy_n of_o the_o one_o shall_v be_v the_o joy_n of_o the_o other_o and_o the_o grief_n of_o the_o one_o shall_v be_v the_o grief_n of_o the_o other_o now_o here_o happy_o it_o may_v be_v demand_v why_o either_o epaphroditus_n or_o the_o philippian_n shall_v be_v so_o full_a of_o heaviness_n and_o take_v the_o matter_n so_o much_o to_o heart_n see_v his_o sickness_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o this_o heaviness_n come_v unto_o he_o by_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o his_o gracious_a providence_n whereunto_o in_o one_o word_n i_o answer_v that_o this_o mutual_a heaviness_n one_o for_o another_o be_v only_o a_o argument_n of_o their_o mutual_a love_n one_o of_o another_o not_o any_o argument_n of_o their_o ignorance_n or_o doubt_n of_o god_n providence_n in_o his_o sickness_n our_o saviour_n christ_n as_o we_o read_v groan_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o be_v trouble_v in_o himself_o 11.33_o joh._n 11.33_o and_o weep_v for_o the_o death_n of_o lazarus_n this_o show_v his_o great_a love_n of_o lazarus_n as_o the_o jew_n very_o well_o gather_v say_v behold_v how_o he_o love_v he_o 36._o 36._o but_o will_v any_o man_n gather_v hence_o that_o he_o know_v not_o or_o doubt_v of_o god_n providence_n in_o his_o death_n nay_o himself_o plain_o say_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o that_o chapter_n that_o that_o sickness_n be_v not_o unto_o death_n but_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n that_o the_o son_n of_o god_n may_v be_v glorify_v thereby_o so_o that_o albeit_o he_o know_v that_o his_o death_n be_v by_o god_n providence_n god_n so_o provide_v that_o his_o son_n may_v thereby_o be_v glorify_v yet_o such_o be_v his_o love_n towards_o he_o that_o
we_o wean_v man_n from_o this_o worldly_a rejoice_v as_o much_o as_o we_o can_v what_o be_v then_o the_o rejoice_v which_o we_o teach_v as_o the_o apostle_n say_v of_o sorrow_n 7.10_o 2._o cor._n 7.10_o that_o there_o be_v a_o worldly_a sorrow_n which_o cause_v death_n and_o a_o godly_a sorrow_n which_o cause_v repentance_n unto_o salvation_n so_o i_o say_v of_o rejoice_v that_o there_o be_v
