the_o principal_a growth_n in_o knowledge_n that_o we_o shall_v look_v after_o be_v not_o to_o know_v more_o matter_n than_o we_o kneâ—_n before_o but_o to_o know_v that_o better_a and_o with_o a_o clear_a light_n and_o firm_a apprehension_n which_o we_o dark_o and_o slight_o know_v before_o you_o may_v more_o safe_o be_v without_o any_o knowledge_n at_o all_o of_o many_o low_a truth_n then_o without_o some_o further_a degree_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o those_o which_o you_o already_o know_v 4._o beside_o it_o be_v know_v by_o sad_a experience_n that_o many_o perish_v who_o know_v the_o truth_n for_o want_v of_o the_o consideration_n of_o it_o and_o make_v use_n of_o what_o they_o know_v and_o so_o their_o knowledge_n do_v but_o condemn_v they_o we_o have_v as_o much_o need_v be_v the_o very_a instrument_n of_o the_o great_a work_n that_o be_v to_o be_v do_v upon_o the_o heart_n by_o the_o spirit_n and_o ourselves_o in_o the_o right_a use_n of_o these_o it_o be_v that_o answ._n this_o may_v be_v gather_v from_o what_o be_v last_o say_v the_o great_a cause_n of_o the_o day_n will_v be_v to_o inquire_v and_o determine_v who_o shall_v die_v and_o who_o shall_v live_v who_o ought_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n and_o who_o to_o hell_n for_o ever_o according_a to_o the_o law_n by_o which_o they_o must_v then_o be_v judge_v 1._o as_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a law_n by_o the_o gospel_n this_o be_v call_v the_o merit_n of_o the_o cause_n that_o be_v what_o be_v a_o man_n due_a according_a to_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o the_o law_n though_o the_o due_a may_v be_v by_o the_o next_o point_n in_o our_o method_n be_v to_o show_v you_o what_o will_v be_v the_o evidence_n of_o the_o cause_n answ._n there_o be_v a_o five_o fold_n evidence_n among_o man_n 1._o when_o the_o fact_n be_v notorious_a 2._o the_o knowledge_n of_o a_o unsuspected_a competent_a judge_n 3._o the_o party_n confession_n 4._o witness_n 5._o instrument_n and_o visible_a effect_n of_o the_o action_n all_o these_o evidence_n will_v be_v at_o hand_n and_o any_o one_o of_o they_o sufficient_a for_o the_o conviction_n of_o the_o guilty_a person_n at_o that_o day_n 1._o as_o the_o sin_n of_o all_o man_n so_o the_o impenitency_n and_o rebellion_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v notorious_a or_o at_o least_o will_v be_v then_o for_o though_o some_o play_v the_o hypocrite_n and_o hide_v the_o matter_n from_o the_o world_n and_o themselves_o yet_o god_n shall_v open_v their_o heart_n and_o former_a life_n to_o themselves_o and_o to_o the_o view_n of_o all_o the_o world_n he_o shall_v set_v their_o sin_n in_o order_n before_o they_o so_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v utter_o in_o vain_a to_o deny_v or_o excuse_v they_o if_o any_o man_n will_v then_o think_v to_o make_v their_o cause_n as_o good_a to_o god_n as_o they_o can_v now_o do_v to_o we_o that_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v their_o heart_n they_o will_v be_v foul_o mistake_v now_o they_o can_v say_v they_o have_v as_o good_a heart_n as_o the_o best_a then_o god_n will_v bring_v they_o out_o in_o the_o light_n and_o show_v they_o to_o themselves_o and_o all_o the_o world_n whether_o they_o be_v good_a or_o bad_a now_o they_o will_v face_v we_o down_o that_o they_o do_v true_o repent_v and_o they_o obey_v god_n as_o well_o as_o they_o can_v but_o god_n that_o know_v the_o deceiver_n will_v then_o undeceive_v they_o we_o can_v now_o make_v man_n acquaint_v with_o their_o own_o unsanctified_a heart_n nor_o convince_v they_o that_o have_v not_o true_a faith_n repentance_n or_o obedience_n but_o god_n will_v convince_v they_o of_o it_o they_o can_v find_v shift_n and_o false_a answer_n to_o put_v off_o a_o minister_n with_o but_o god_n will_v not_o so_o be_v shift_v off_o let_v we_o preach_v as_o plain_o to_o they_o as_o we_o can_v and_o do_v all_o that_o ever_o we_o be_v able_a to_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o impenitency_n and_o unholyness_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o the_o necessity_n of_o a_o new_a heart_n and_o life_n yet_o we_o can_v do_v it_o but_o they_o will_v believe_v whether_o we_o will_v or_o not_o that_o the_o old_a heart_n will_v serve_v the_o turn_n but_o how_o easy_o will_v god_n make_v they_o know_v the_o contrary_a we_o plead_v with_o they_o in_o the_o dark_a for_o though_o we_o have_v the_o candle_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o our_o hand_n when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v they_o their_o corruption_n yet_o they_o shut_v their_o eye_n and_o be_v wilful_o blind_a but_o god_n will_v open_v their_o eye_n whether_o they_o will_v or_o not_o not_o by_o holy_a illumination_n but_o by_o force_a conviction_n and_o then_o he_o will_v plead_v with_o they_o as_o in_o the_o open_a light_n see_v here_o thy_o own_o unholy_a soul_n can_v thou_o now_o say_v thou_o do_v love_v i_o above_o all_o can_v thou_o deny_v but_o thou_o do_v love_v this_o world_n before_o i_o and_o serve_v thy_o flesh_n and_o lust_n though_o i_o tell_v thou_o if_o thou_o do_v so_o thou_o shall_v die_v look_v upon_o thy_o own_o heart_n now_o and_o see_v whether_o it_o be_v a_o holy_a or_o a_o unholy_a heart_n a_o spiritual_a or_o a_o fleshly_a heart_n a_o heavenly_a or_o a_o earthly_a heart_n look_v now_o upon_o all_o the_o course_n of_o thy_o life_n and_o see_v whether_o thou_o do_v live_v to_o i_o or_o to_o the_o world_n and_o thy_o flesh_n oh_o how_o easy_o will_v god_n convince_v man_n then_o of_o as_o king_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v sit_v in_o judgement_n on_o all_o man_n at_o the_o last_o and_o shall_v separate_v they_o one_o from_o another_o as_o a_o shepherd_n divide_v the_o sheep_n from_o the_o goat_n and_o so_o shall_v pass_v the_o final_a sentence_n this_o sentence_n be_v twofold_a according_a to_o the_o different_a condition_n of_o they_o that_o be_v judge_v to_o they_o on_o the_o right_a hand_n there_o be_v a_o sentence_n of_o justification_n and_o adjudication_n to_o everlasting_a glory_n to_o they_o on_o the_o left_a hand_n here_o be_v a_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n to_o everlasting_a punishment_n the_o sentence_n on_o each_o of_o these_o contain_v both_o the_o state_n which_o they_o be_v judge_v to_o and_o the_o reason_n or_o cause_n of_o the_o judgement_n to_o that_o state_n for_o as_o god_n will_v not_o judge_v any_o to_o life_n or_o death_n without_o just_a cause_n so_o he_o will_v publish_v this_o cause_n in_o his_o sentence_n as_o it_o be_v the_o manner_n of_o judge_n to_o do_v if_o you_o say_v christ_n will_v not_o use_v a_o voice_n let_v it_o satisfy_v that_o though_o we_o know_v not_o the_o manner_n yet_o if_o he_o do_v it_o but_o by_o mental_a discovery_n as_o he_o show_v man_n what_o shall_v everlasting_o befall_v they_o so_o he_o will_v show_v they_o why_o it_o shall_v so_o befall_v they_o 1._o the_o sentence_n on_o end_n of_o his_o work_n of_o redemption_n and_o the_o blessedness_n of_o his_o saint_n and_o that_o himself_o be_v as_o mediator_n but_o the_o way_n to_o the_o father_n it_o be_v the_o father_n that_o prepare_v the_o kingdom_n for_o they_o and_o from_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o world_n prepare_v it_o both_o for_o they_o as_o choose_v one_o and_o for_o they_o as_o future_a believer_n and_o righteous_a one_o it_o be_v call_v a_o kingdom_n partly_o in_o respect_n to_o god_n the_o king_n in_o who_o glory_n we_o shall_v partake_v in_o our_o place_n and_o partly_o metaphorical_o from_o the_o dignity_n of_o our_o condition_n for_o so_o it_o be_v that_o ourselves_o be_v say_v to_o be_v make_v king_n rev._n 1.6_o and_o 5.1_o 1_o pet._n 2.9_o and_o not_o that_o we_o be_v proper_o king_n for_o as_o give_v by_o the_o father_n and_o redeem_a by_o the_o son_n and_o hold_v it_o in_o this_o tenure_n for_o ever_o the_o true_a believer_n be_v convince_v in_o this_o life_n that_o indeed_o there_o be_v no_o true_a blessedness_n but_o this_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n the_o lord_n reveal_v this_o to_o his_o heart_n by_o his_o word_n and_o spirit_n and_o therefore_o he_o contemn_v the_o seem_a happiness_n on_o earth_n and_o lay_v up_o for_o himself_o a_o treasure_n in_o heaven_n and_o make_v he_o friend_n with_o the_o mammon_n of_o unrighteousness_n and_o venture_v all_o his_o hope_n in_o this_o vessel_n and_o now_o he_o find_v the_o wisdom_n of_o that_o choice_n in_o a_o rich_a return_n god_n make_v he_o so_o wise_a a_o merchant_n as_o to_o sell_v all_o for_o this_o pearl_n of_o great_a price_n and_o therefore_o now_o he_o shall_v find_v the_o gain_n as_o there_o be_v no_o other_o true_a happiness_n but_o god_n in_o glory_n so_o be_v there_o nothing_o more_o suitable_a and_o welcome_a to_o the_o true_a believer_n o_o how_o welcome_a will_v the_o face_n of_o that_o god_n be_v who_o he_o love_v who_o he_o seek_v who_o he_o long_v and_o wait_v for_o how_o welcome_a will_v that_o kingdom_n be_v which_o he_o live_v in_o hope_n of_o which_o he_o part_v with_o all_o for_o and_o suffer_v for_o in_o the_o flesh_n how_o glad_a will_v he_o undoubted_o it_o be_v now_o quite_o past_o our_o comprehension_n though_o our_o imperfect_a fore-thought_n of_o it_o may_v well_o make_v our_o life_n a_o continual_a feast_n be_v it_o but_o our_o justification_n from_o the_o accusation_n of_o satan_n who_o will_v have_v we_o condemn_v either_o as_o sinner_n in_o general_a or_o as_o impenitent_a unbelieving_a rebel_n against_o he_o that_o redeem_v we_o in_o special_a it_o will_v lift_v up_o the_o head_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o that_o day_n after_o all_o the_o fear_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n and_o the_o slanderous_a accusation_n of_o satan_n and_o the_o world_n that_o we_o be_v either_o impenitent_a infidel_n or_o hypocrite_n christ_n will_v then_o justify_v we_o and_o pronounce_v we_o righteous_a so_o much_o for_o the_o condition_n to_o which_o they_o be_v judge_v 2._o the_o reason_n or_o cause_n of_o this_o justification_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v give_v we_o both_o 1._o in_o a_o general_a denomination_n and_o 2._o in_o a_o particular_a description_n 1._o in_o general_n it_o be_v because_o they_o be_v righteous_a as_o be_v evident_a mat._n 25.46_o the_o righteous_a shall_v go_v into_o life_n everlasting_a and_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o business_n of_o every_o just_a judge_n to_o justify_v the_o righteous_a and_o condemn_v the_o unrighteous_a and_o shall_v not_o the_o judge_n of_o all_o the_o earth_n judge_v careless_a world_n have_v any_o just_a reason_n to_o think_v it_o be_v uncertain_a their_o carelessness_n be_v more_o excusable_a i_o think_v a_o man_n shall_v be_v affect_v with_o that_o which_o he_o it_o be_v not_o a_o 100_o year_n in_o all_o likelihood_n till_o every_o soul_n of_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n or_o hell_n and_o its_o like_o not_o half_o or_o a_o quarter_n of_o that_o time_n but_o it_o will_v be_v so_o with_o the_o great_a part_n of_o we_o and_o what_o be_v a_o year_n or_o two_o or_o a_o 100_o how_o speedy_o be_v it_o come_v how_o many_o a_o soul_n that_o be_v now_o in_o heaven_n or_o hell_n within_o a_o 1000_o year_n dwell_v in_o the_o place_n that_o you_o now_o dwell_v in_o and_o sit_v in_o the_o seat_n you_o now_o sit_v in_o and_o now_o their_o time_n be_v past_a what_o be_v it_o alas_o how_o quick_o will_v it_o be_v so_o with_o we_o you_o know_v not_o when_o you_o go_v to_o bed_n but_o you_o may_v be_v judge_v by_o the_o next_o morning_n or_o when_o you_o god_n do_v not_o you_o use_v to_o ask_v this_o of_o your_o own_o heart_n unless_o you_o be_v careless_a whether_o you_o be_v save_v or_o damn_v methinks_v you_o shall_v and_o ask_v it_o serious_o qu._n but_o who_o be_v they_o that_o be_v ready_a how_o shall_v i_o know_v whether_o i_o be_v ready_a or_o not_o answ._n there_o be_v a_o twofold_a readiness_n 1._o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o safe_a case_n 2._o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o comfortable_a case_n in_o regard_n of_o that_o day_n the_o latter_a be_v very_o desirable_a but_o the_o first_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n this_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o you_o must_v principal_o inquire_v after_o in_o general_n all_o those_o and_o only_o those_o be_v ready_a for_o judgement_n who_o shall_v be_v justify_v and_o save_v and_o not_o condemn_v when_o judgement_n come_v they_o that_o have_v a_o good_a cause_n in_o a_o gospel_n sense_n it_o may_v be_v know_v before_o hand_n who_o these_o be_v for_o christ_n judge_v as_o i_o tell_v you_o by_o his_o law_n and_o therefore_o find_v out_o who_o it_o be_v that_o the_o law_n of_o grace_n do_v justify_v or_o condemn_v and_o you_o may_v certain_o know_v who_o the_o judge_n will_v justify_v or_o condemn_v for_o he_o judge_v righteous_o if_o you_o further_o ask_v i_o who_o these_o be_v remember_v that_o i_o tell_v you_o before_o that_o every_o man_n that_o be_v personal_o righteous_a by_o fulfil_v the_o condition_n of_o salvation_n in_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v save_v and_o he_o that_o be_v find_v unrighteous_a as_o have_v not_o fulfil_v they_o shall_v perish_v at_o have_v so_o much_o conviction_n of_o the_o vanity_n of_o all_o creature_n as_o thereupon_o to_o love_v god_n more_o than_o all_o thing_n below_o so_o that_o he_o have_v the_o chief_a room_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o be_v prefer_v before_o all_o creature_n ordinary_o in_o a_o time_n of_o trial_n that_o soul_n shall_v be_v justify_v at_o judgement_n and_o all_o other_o shall_v be_v condemn_v 4._o that_o soul_n that_o be_v so_o apprehensive_a of_o the_o absolute_a sovereignty_n of_o god_n as_o creator_n and_o redeemer_n and_o of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o his_o law_n and_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n can_v do_v more_o with_o he_o than_o any_o other_o and_o do_v ordinary_o prevail_v against_o all_o the_o persuasion_n and_o interest_n of_o the_o flesh_n so_o that_o the_o main_a scope_n and_o bent_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o life_n be_v still_o for_o god_n and_o when_o he_o sin_v he_o rise_v again_o by_o true_a repentance_n i_o say_v that_o soul_n and_o that_o only_o shall_v be_v to_o they_o in_o some_o comely_a tempt_a shape_n till_o he_o have_v they_o fast_o tie_v to_o he_o and_o then_o he_o beat_v they_o and_o affright_v they_o and_o seldom_o appear_v to_o they_o but_o in_o some_o ugly_a hue_n believe_v it_o poor_a sinner_n you_o do_v not_o hear_v or_o see_v the_o worst_a of_o he_o when_o you_o be_v merry_a about_o your_o sinful_a pleasure_n and_o rejoice_v in_o your_o hope_n of_o the_o commodity_n or_o preferment_n of_o the_o world_n he_o have_v another_o kind_n of_o voice_n which_o you_o must_v hear_v and_o another_o face_n to_o show_v you_o that_o will_v make_v you_o know_v a_o little_a better_o who_o you_o have_v to_o do_v with_o you_o will_v be_v afraid_a now_o to_o meet_v he_o in_o the_o dark_a what_o will_v you_o be_v to_o live_v with_o he_o in_o everlasting_a darkness_n then_o you_o will_v know_v who_o it_o be_v that_o you_o entertain_v and_o obey_v and_o play_v with_o in_o your_o sin_n 3._o and_o as_o the_o text_n tell_v we_o that_o it_o be_v a_o fire_n prepare_v for_o the_o devil_n and_o his_o angel_n so_o it_o tell_v we_o that_o be_v a_o everlasting_a fire_n it_o have_v a_o beginning_n but_o it_o shall_v have_v no_o end_n if_o these_o wretch_n will_v have_v choose_v the_o service_n of_o god_n they_o will_v have_v meet_v with_o no_o difficulty_n or_o trouble_n but_o what_o will_v have_v have_v a_o speedy_a end_n poverty_n and_o injury_n will_v have_v have_v a_o end_n scorn_n and_o abuse_n will_v have_v have_v a_o end_n fast_v humiliation_n sorrow_n for_o sin_n watch_v and_o fight_v against_o our_o spiritual_a enemy_n will_v all_o have_v have_v a_o end_n but_o to_o avoid_v these_o they_o choose_v that_o ease_n that_o pleasure_n which_o have_v bring_v they_o to_o that_o torment_n which_o never_o will_v have_v end_n i_o have_v say_v so_o much_o of_o these_o thing_n already_o in_o my_o book_n call_v the_o saint_n rest_v that_o i_o will_v now_o say_v but_o this_o much_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o wonder_n of_o the_o world_n how_o man_n that_o do_v believe_v or_o think_v they_o do_v believe_v this_o word_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v true_a that_o the_o wicked_a shall_v go_v into_o everlasting_a fire_n can_v yet_o venture_v on_o sin_n so_o bold_o and_o live_v in_o it_o so_o fearless_o or_o sleep_v quiet_o till_o they_o be_v out_o of_o this_o unspeakable_a danger_n only_o the_o commonness_n of_o it_o and_o the_o know_a wickedness_n of_o man_n heart_n do_v make_v this_o less_o wonderful_a and_o be_v there_o nothing_o else_o to_o convince_v we_o that_o sinner_n be_v mad_a and_o dead_a as_o to_o spiritual_a thing_n this_o be_v enough_o that_o ever_o the_o great_a pleasure_n or_o profit_n of_o the_o world_n or_o the_o most_o entice_a bait_n that_o the_o devil_n can_v offer_v they_o shall_v once_o prevail_v with_o they_o to_o forget_v these_o endless_a thing_n and_o draw_v they_o to_o reject_v a_o everlasting_a glory_n and_o cast_v themselves_o desperate_o into_o everlasting_a fire_n yea_o and_o all_o this_o under_o daily_a warning_n and_o instruction_n and_o when_o it_o be_v tell_v they_o before_o hand_n by_o the_o god_n of_o truth_n himself_o for_o the_o lord_n sake_n sir_n and_o for_o your_o soul_n sake_n if_o you_o care_v not_o what_o minister_n say_v or_o what_o such_o as_o i_o say_v yet_o will_v you_o sober_o read_v now_o and_o then_o this_o 25._o chapter_n of_o matthew_n and_o regard_v what_o be_v tell_v you_o by_o he_o that_o must_v be_v your_o judge_n and_o now_o and_o then_o bethink_v yourselves_o sober_o whether_o these_o be_v matter_n for_o wise_a man_n to_o make_v light_n of_o and_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v everlasting_o in_o heaven_n or_o in_o hell_n fire_n 2._o we_o have_v see_v what_o be_v the_o penalty_n contain_v in_o the_o sentence_n against_o the_o ungodly_a the_o next_o thing_n that_o the_o text_n direct_v we_o to_o be_v the_o cause_n or_o reason_n of_o the_o sentence_n vers._n 42_o for_o i_o be_v hungry_a and_o you_o give_v i_o no_o meat_n etc._n etc._n the_o reason_n be_v not_o give_v express_o either_o for_o their_o sin_n against_o the_o law_n of_o work_n that_o be_v because_o they_o be_v sinner_n and_o not_o perfect_o innocent_a nor_o yet_o from_o their_o unbelief_n which_o be_v the_o great_a sin_n against_o the_o law_n of_o grace_n but_o it_o be_v give_v from_o their_o not_o express_v their_o faith_n and_o love_n to_o christ_n in_o work_n of_o mercy_n and_o self-denial_n and_o why_o be_v this_o so_o 1._o we_o must_v not_o suppose_v that_o these_o word_n of_o christ_n do_v express_v the_o whole_a judicial_a process_n in_o every_o point_n but_o the_o chief_a part_n it_o be_v suppose_v that_o all_o man_n be_v convict_v of_o be_v sinner_n against_o the_o perfect_a law_n of_o the_o creator_n and_o that_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o death_n for_o that_o sin_n and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o way_n but_o by_o christ_n to_o obtain_v deliverance_n but_o because_o all_o this_o must_v be_v acknowledge_v by_o the_o righteous_a themselves_o as_o well_o as_o by_o the_o wicked_a therefore_o christ_n do_v not_o mention_v this_o but_o that_o only_o which_o be_v the_o turn_a point_n or_o cause_n in_o the_o judgement_n for_o it_o be_v not_o all_o sinner_n that_o shall_v be_v final_o condemn_v but_o all_o impenitent_a unbelieving_a sinner_n who_o have_v rebel_v final_o against_o their_o redeemer_n 2._o and_o the_o reason_n why_o faith_n itself_o be_v not_o express_v be_v 1._o because_o it_o be_v clear_o employ_v and_o so_o be_v love_n to_o christ_n as_o redeemer_n in_o that_o they_o shall_v have_v relieve_v christ_n himself_o in_o his_o member_n that_o be_v as_o it_o be_v express_v matth._n 10.42_o they_o shall_v have_v receive_v a_o prophet_n in_o the_o name_n of_o a_o prophet_n and_o a_o for_o the_o general_a that_o be_v one_o way_n of_o self_n deny_v obedience_n and_o expression_n of_o love_n instead_o of_o such_o obedience_n in_o general_a for_o all_o man_n have_v not_o ability_n to_o relieve_v those_o in_o misery_n be_v perhaps_o some_o of_o they_o poor_a themselves_o but_o all_o have_v that_o love_n and_o self-denial_n which_o will_v some_o way_n express_v itself_o and_o all_o have_v heart_n and_o a_o disposition_n to_o do_v thus_o if_o they_o have_v ability_n without_o such_o a_o disposition_n none_o can_v be_v save_v it_o be_v the_o fond_a conceit_n of_o some_o that_o if_o they_o have_v any_o love_n to_o the_o godly_a or_o wish_v they_o well_o it_o be_v enough_o to_o prove_v they_o happy_a but_o christ_n here_o purposely_o let_v we_o know_v that_o whoever_o do_v not_o love_v he_o at_o so_o high_a a_o rate_n as_o that_o he_o can_v part_v with_o his_o substance_n or_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o those_o use_n which_o he_o shall_v require_v they_o even_o to_o relieve_v his_o servant_n in_o want_n and_o suffering_n for_o the_o master_n sake_n that_o man_n be_v none_o of_o christ_n disciple_n nor_o will_v be_v own_v by_o he_o at_o the_o last_o xi_o the_o next_o point_n that_o we_o come_v to_o be_v to_o show_v you_o the_o property_n of_o this_o sentence_n at_o judgement_n when_o man_n have_v break_v the_o law_n of_o his_o creator_n at_o the_o will_n to_o resist_v they_o and_o use_v mean_n against_o they_o though_o eventual_o the_o perverse_a inclination_n may_v hinder_v the_o use_n of_o it_o the_o three_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n i_o have_v hear_v from_o learned_a man_n that_o god_n do_v determine_v all_o action_n natural_a and_o free_a as_o the_o first_o efficient_a physical_a immediate_a cause_n or_o else_o nothing_o can_v false_a and_o those_o that_o tell_v you_o this_o to_o err_v much_o more_o i_o think_v may_v be_v say_v against_o it_o then_o for_o it_o 2._o i_o be_o sure_a it_o be_v either_o false_a or_o reconcilable_a with_o god_n holiness_n and_o man_n liberty_n and_o culpability_n so_o that_o its_o a_o mad_a thing_n to_o deceive_v yourselves_o with_o such_o philosophical_a uncertainty_n when_o the_o truth_n which_o you_o oppose_v by_o it_o be_v infallible_o certain_a that_o god_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o sin_n but_o man_n himself_o who_o be_v just_o condemn_v for_o it_o be_v undoubted_o true_a and_o will_v you_o obscure_v so_o clear_a a_o truth_n by_o search_v into_o point_n beyond_o human_a reach_n if_o not_o unsound_a as_o you_o conclude_v they_o the_o four_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n but_o at_o least_o those_o learned_a divine_n among_o we_o that_o doubt_v of_o this_o do_v yet_o say_v that_o the_o will_n be_v necessary_o and_o infallible_o determine_v by_o the_o practical_a understanding_n and_o that_o be_v as_o much_o unresistible_o necessitate_v by_o object_n and_o therefore_o whatever_o act_n be_v do_v by_o my_o understanding_n or_o will_n be_v thus_o necessitate_v and_o i_o can_v not_o help_v it_o they_o say_v liberty_n be_v but_o the_o act_n of_o the_o faculty_n agreeable_o to_o its_o nature_n and_o it_o be_v god_n as_o creator_n that_o give_v adam_n his_o faculty_n and_o god_n by_o providential_a dispose_n that_o present_v all_o object_n to_o he_o by_o which_o his_o understanding_n and_o so_o his_o will_n be_v unavoidable_o necessitate_v answ._n this_o be_v of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o the_o former_a uncertain_a if_o not_o certain_o false_a be_v this_o true_a for_o aught_o we_o can_v see_v it_o will_v lay_v all_o the_o sin_n and_o misery_n of_o the_o world_n on_o god_n as_o the_o unresistible_a necessitate_a cause_n which_o because_o we_o know_v infallible_o to_o be_v false_a we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o take_v such_o principle_n to_o be_v true_a which_o infer_v it_o the_o understanding_n do_v not_o by_o a_o necessary_a efficiency_n determine_v the_o will_n but_o moral_o or_o rather_o be_v regular_o a_o condition_n or_o necessary_a antecedent_n without_o which_o it_o may_v not_o determine_v itself_o yea_o the_o will_n by_o command_v the_o sense_n and_o fantasy_n do_v much_o to_o determine_v the_o understanding_n as_o the_o eye_n be_v not_o necessary_a to_o my_o go_v but_o to_o my_o go_v right_a so_o be_v not_o the_o understanding_n guidance_n necessary_a to_o my_o willing_a there_o the_o simple_a apprehension_n may_v suffice_v but_o to_o my_o right_a willing_a there_o be_v other_o way_n of_o determine_v the_o will_n or_o if_o the_o understanding_n do_v determine_v the_o will_n efficient_o and_o necessary_o it_o be_v not_o every_o act_n of_o the_o understanding_n that_o must_v do_v it_o if_o it_o be_v so_o when_o it_o say_v this_o must_v be_v do_v and_o say_v it_o importunate_o yet_o not_o when_o it_o only_o say_v this_o may_v be_v do_v or_o you_o may_v venture_v on_o it_o which_o be_v the_o common_a part_n which_o it_o have_v in_o sin_n i_o be_o not_o please_v that_o these_o curious_a objection_n fall_v in_o the_o way_n nor_o do_v i_o delight_v to_o put_v they_o into_o vulgar_a head_n but_o find_v many_o young_a scholar_n and_o other_o that_o have_v converse_v with_o they_o assault_v with_o these_o temptation_n i_o think_v meet_v to_o give_v a_o touch_n and_o and_o but_o a_o touch_n to_o take_v they_o out_o of_o their_o way_n as_o mr._n fenner_n have_v do_v more_o full_o in_o the_o preface_n to_o his_o hide_a manna_n on_o this_o last_o point_n to_o which_o i_o refer_v you_o i_o only_o add_v this_o the_o will_n of_o man_n in_o its_o very_a dominion_n do_v be_v man_n and_o there_o to_o leave_v it_o upon_o this_o all_o law_n and_o judgement_n be_v ground_v from_o ignorance_n and_o intellectual_a weakness_n man_n common_o fetch_v excuse_n for_o their_o fault_n but_o from_o the_o will_v they_o be_v aggravate_v if_o we_o think_v it_o strange_a that_o man_n will_n shall_v be_v the_o first_o cause_n so_o much_o as_o of_o a_o sinful_a mode_n and_o can_v answer_v all_o occur_v objection_n it_o may_v suffice_v that_o we_o be_v certain_a the_o holy_a majesty_n be_v not_o the_o author_n of_o sin_n and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o make_v all_o this_o as_o plain_a as_o the_o sun_n and_o easy_o answer_v all_o these_o vain_a excuse_n though_o we_o shall_v be_v unable_a and_o if_o we_o be_v much_o ignorant_a of_o the_o frame_n and_o motion_n of_o our_o own_o soul_n and_o especial_o of_o that_o high_a self_n determine_v principle_n freewill_n the_o great_a spring_n of_o our_o action_n and_o the_o curious_a engine_n by_o which_o god_n do_v sapiential_o govern_v the_o world_n it_o be_v no_o wonder_n consider_v that_o the_o soul_n can_v know_v itself_o but_o by_o reflection_n and_o god_n give_v we_o a_o soul_n to_o use_v rather_o than_o to_o know_v itself_o and_o to_o know_v its_o quality_n and_o operation_n rather_o than_o its_o essence_n the_o five_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n no_o man_n can_v be_v save_v nor_o avoid_v any_o sin_n nor_o believe_v in_o christ_n but_o those_o who_o god_n have_v predestinate_v thereto_o i_o be_v under_o a_o irreversible_a sentence_n before_o i_o be_v bear_v and_o therefore_o i_o do_v nothing_o but_o what_o i_o be_v predestinate_v to_o do_v and_o if_o god_n decree_v not_o to_o save_v i_o how_o can_v i_o help_v it_o answ._n 1._o god_n judgement_n be_v more_o plain_a but_o his_o decree_n or_o secret_a purpose_n be_v mysterious_a and_o to_o darken_v certainty_n by_o have_v recourse_n to_o point_n obscure_a be_v no_o part_n of_o christian_a wisdom_n god_n tell_v you_o your_o duty_n in_o his_o word_n and_o on_o what_o term_n you_o must_v be_v judge_v to_o life_n or_o death_n hither_o shall_v you_o have_v recourse_n for_o direction_n and_o not_o to_o the_o unsearchable_a mystery_n of_o his_o mind_n 2._o god_n decree_v not_o to_o condemn_v any_o but_o for_o sin_n sin_n i_o say_v as_o the_o cause_n of_o that_o condemnation_n though_o not_o of_o his_o decree_n 3._o god_n decree_n be_v act_n immanent_a in_o himself_o and_o make_v no_o change_n on_o you_o and_o therefore_o do_v not_o necessitate_v you_o to_o sin_n any_o more_o than_o his_o foreknowledge_n do_v for_o both_o cause_n only_o a_o necessity_n here_o the_o seven_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n god_n may_v have_v hinder_v my_o sin_n and_o damnation_n if_o he_o will_v answ._n and_o will_v you_o wilful_o sin_n and_o think_v to_o escape_v because_o god_n do_v not_o hinder_v you_o the_o prince_n that_o make_v a_o law_n against_o murder_n can_v lock_v you_o up_o and_o keep_v you_o from_o be_v a_o murderer_n but_o be_v you_o excusable_a if_o he_o do_v not_o we_o be_v certain_a that_o god_n can_v have_v hinder_v all_o the_o sin_n and_o death_n and_o confusion_n and_o misery_n that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o we_o be_v as_o certain_a that_o he_o do_v not_o hinder_v it_o but_o by_o forbid_v it_o and_o give_v man_n mean_n against_o it_o and_o we_o be_v certain_a that_o he_o be_v just_a and_o good_a and_o wise_a in_o all_o and_o not_o bind_v to_o hinder_v it_o and_o what_o his_o reason_n be_v you_o may_v better_o know_v hereafter_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n you_o have_v be_v better_o have_v look_v to_o your_o own_o duty_n the_o eight_o and_o twenty_o excuse_n how_o can_v i_o be_v save_v if_o christ_n do_v not_o die_v for_o i_o he_o die_v but_o for_o his_o elect_a and_o none_o can_v be_v save_v without_o his_o death_n answ._n he_o do_v die_v for_o you_o and_o for_o more_o than_o his_o elect_a though_o he_o absolute_o purpose_v only_o their_o salvation_n your_o sin_n crucify_v he_o and_o your_o debt_n lie_v upon_o he_o help_n and_o mean_n to_o have_v cure_v your_o will_n and_o cause_v you_o to_o accept_v he_o for_o neglect_n of_o which_o and_o so_o for_o not_o believe_v and_o so_o for_o all_o your_o other_o sin_n
