mean_n do_v not_o better_v i_o though_o saul_n and_o the_o jailor_n be_v bad_a enough_o yet_o they_o be_v better_v by_o the_o mean_n but_o this_o be_v the_o hopeless_a condition_n of_o my_o heart_n prayer_n will_v not_o work_v the_o mean_n of_o grace_n will_v not_o prevail_v sometime_o i_o think_v lord_n this_o lord_n day_n will_v do_v and_o this_o sermon_n will_v work_v it_o but_o to_o this_o very_a day_n the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n profit_v not_o nor_o work_n upon_o i_o for_o my_o good_a and_o be_v there_o such_o a_o heart_n in_o hell_n be_v there_o any_o hope_n that_o i_o shall_v ever_o have_v grace_n when_o the_o mean_n which_o shall_v work_v grace_n will_v do_v i_o no_o good_a this_o be_v the_o last_o plea_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o indeed_o of_o satan_n whereby_o he_o hold_v many_o a_o distress_a foul_a in_o hand_n that_o god_n intend_v no_o good_a towards_o he_o answ_n i_o answer_v yet_o this_o hinder_v not_o but_o at_o least_o thou_o may_v have_v a_o hope_n of_o mercy_n to_o support_v thy_o heart_n in_o the_o expectation_n of_o good_a and_o that_o i_o may_v speak_v clear_o observe_v three_o passage_n first_o the_o word_n and_o mean_n do_v work_v if_o it_o do_v make_v thou_o more_o sensible_a and_o more_o apprehensive_a of_o thy_o own_o hardness_n and_o deadness_n though_o indeed_o it_o work_v not_o that_o good_a and_o after_o that_o manner_n thou_o will_v and_o desire_v and_o expect_v yet_o if_o it_o make_v thou_o see_v thy_o own_o baseness_n and_o observe_v thy_o own_o wretchedness_n in_o regard_n of_o that_o body_n of_o death_n that_o hang_v upon_o thou_o with_o the_o word_n it_o work_v kind_o when_o it_o make_v thou_o sick_a of_o these_o distemper_n when_o it_o show_v thou_o the_o stubbornness_n and_o deadness_n of_o thy_o own_o heart_n and_o make_v thou_o apprehend_v that_o a_o break_a spirit_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n and_o not_o of_o man_n and_o mean_n therefore_o the_o lord_n will_v make_v thou_o look_v to_o he_o to_o work_v it_o and_o continue_v it_o therefore_o know_v that_o this_o be_v a_o work_n of_o god_n for_o to_o see_v deadness_n be_v life_n and_o to_o feel_v hardness_n be_v softness_n only_o beware_v that_o there_o be_v not_o a_o haunt_n of_o heart_n and_o distemper_n that_o thy_o soul_n cleave_v to_o and_o pant_v after_o and_o thou_o be_v loath_a to_o part_v withal_o for_o then_o the_o word_n will_v harden_v thou_o because_o thou_o hardene_a thyself_o but_o if_o thou_o be_v content_a that_o the_o word_n shall_v lay_v open_a the_o bowel_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o discover_v what_o ever_o be_v amiss_o and_o reveal_v what_o ever_o be_v cross_a to_o god_n command_n and_o pluck_v away_o every_o corruption_n and_o distemper_n then_o if_o the_o word_n reveal_v any_o hardness_n in_o thou_o know_v that_o the_o word_n work_v comfortable_o that_o reveal_v hardness_n and_o baseness_n and_o do_v drive_v thou_o out_o of_o thyself_o to_o god_n for_o succour_n second_o thou_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o thy_o heart_n be_v not_o soften_v thou_o be_v the_o fault_n why_o the_o word_n prevail_v not_o because_o the_o distemper_n of_o thy_o heart_n hinder_v the_o work_n of_o the_o word_n and_o the_o dispensation_n of_o god_n providence_n and_o the_o tenor_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n when_o a_o man_n will_v stint_v the_o lord_n and_o limit_v the_o holy_a one_o of_o israel_n just_o this_o sermon_n and_o this_o quarter_n and_o this_o season_n this_o hinder_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o cross_v the_o work_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n the_o lord_n do_v not_o stand_v bend_v to_o thy_o bow_n the_o lord_n be_v not_o at_o thy_o call_n he_o will_v not_o give_v thou_o grace_v when_o thou_o will_v but_o when_o he_o please_v no_o it_o be_v not_o for_o we_o to_o know_v the_o time_n and_o the_o season_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v what_o if_o thou_o go_v upon_o thy_o hand_n and_o knee_n beg_v of_o mercy_n to_o the_o last_o gasp_n and_o if_o then_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o shine_v in_o a_o drop_n of_o goodness_n and_o mercy_n it_o be_v more_o than_o the_o lord_n owe_v therefore_o hear_v to_o day_n and_o attend_v to_o morrow_n thou_o know_v not_o whether_o god_n will_v bless_v this_o sermon_n or_o that_o mean_n or_o the_o other_o ordinance_n and_o do_v not_o complain_v upon_o the_o mean_n but_o attend_v god_n leisure_n and_o remember_v the_o lord_n have_v wait_v long_o for_o thou_o in_o the_o time_n of_o your_o rebellion_n in_o the_o day_n of_o your_o ignorance_n before_o you_o look_v towards_o the_o lord_n and_o therefore_o if_o the_o lord_n now_o make_v you_o wait_v for_o mercy_n and_o assurance_n of_o his_o love_n know_v that_o the_o lord_n deal_v equal_o and_o kind_o and_o love_o with_o you_o and_o so_o as_o all_o shall_v be_v best_a for_o you_o and_o know_v that_o this_o distemper_n of_o heart_n oppose_v the_o tenor_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o
