acknowledge_v our_o sensibility_n of_o the_o cause_n of_o they_o if_o i_o see_v or_o hear_v and_o so_o suffer_v a_o thought_n and_o be_o not_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o sensation_n nor_o can_v the_o form_n of_o good_a or_o even_o though_o there_o be_v some_o good_a in_o the_o thing_n when_o he_o will_v that_o which_o tend_v to_o hinder_v or_o lessen_v his_o own_o pleasure_n or_o happiness_n which_o be_v according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n three_o a_o man_n will_n be_v evil_a when_o although_o he_o will_v that_o which_o be_v in_o itself_o a_o good_a and_o good_a for_o he_o he_o will_v it_o so_o or_o in_o such_o circumstance_n as_o hinder_v good_a from_o another_o man_n for_o there_o be_v the_o same_o reason_n why_o another_o man_n shall_v be_v please_v as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v as_o that_o i_o shall_v be_v so_o and_o in_o hinder_v the_o good_a of_o another_o i_o want_v the_o reasonable_a act_n of_o love_n and_o justice_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o even_o also_o hinder_v good_a from_o myself_o in_o thus_o disorderly_o seek_v it_o for_o i_o can_v be_v more_o happy_a and_o please_v if_o all_o my_o fellow_n creature_n be_v so_o than_o if_o they_o be_v not_o and_o the_o more_o of_o they_o happy_a and_o please_v the_o more_o may_v i_o for_o the_o unhappiness_n or_o displeasure_n of_o other_o add_v to_o my_o unhappiness_n if_o i_o have_v be_v any_o way_n the_o cause_n of_o their_o unhappiness_n when_o i_o see_v my_o injustice_n or_o if_o i_o have_v not_o as_o i_o be_o affect_v with_o compassion_n or_o as_o i_o therein_o do_v not_o see_v so_o much_o of_o the_o manifestation_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n in_o the_o order_n of_o his_o creature_n i_o have_v not_o such_o cause_n of_o joy_n as_o if_o i_o see_v my_o own_o pleasure_n as_o it_o be_v multiply_v in_o my_o fellow_n creature_n or_o have_v the_o satisfaction_n of_o be_v instrumental_a to_o their_o good_a and_o perhaps_o from_o divers_a other_o reason_n the_o more_o of_o my_o fellow_n be_v happy_a the_o more_o in_o degree_n may_v i_o be_v so_o but_o let_v we_o consider_v wherein_o the_o evil_a of_o man_n will_n consist_v for_o more_o clearness_n in_o a_o instance_n or_o two_o a_o man_n desire_v a_o bodily_a thing_n in_o the_o application_n of_o which_o to_o his_o body_n god_n have_v annex_v a_o pleasure_n to_o the_o mind_n this_o gratification_n of_o the_o sense_n be_v good_a and_o god_n cause_v it_o but_o when_o the_o man_n will_v it_o in_o such_o a_o circumstance_n as_o of_o necessity_n rob_v he_o of_o a_o great_a pleasure_n he_o may_v otherwise_o have_v have_v or_o give_v he_o in_o the_o consequence_n great_a displeasure_n than_o the_o want_n of_o that_o thing_n can_v be_v the_o willing_a of_o that_o thing_n become_v a_o evil_a to_o he_o in_o abate_v his_o happiness_n and_o which_o be_v worse_o an_o ungrateful_a slight_n to_o his_o maker_n a_o great_a disorder_n in_o not_o consult_v his_o will_n to_o guide_v he_o or_o not_o confide_v in_o his_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n who_o will_v have_v the_o man_n as_o happy_a as_o may_v be_v as_o the_o pleasure_n a_o man_n receive_v in_o eat_v and_o drink_v be_v good_a but_o if_o he_o eat_v or_o drink_v too_o much_o he_o dull_v his_o appetite_n and_o render_v it_o less_o sensible_a and_o often_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o a_o disease_n that_o not_o only_o affect_v he_o with_o its_o consequent_a displeasure_n but_o render_v he_o incapable_a of_o the_o pleasure_n of_o eat_v and_o drink_v for_o a_o much_o long_a time_n than_o he_o have_v of_o pleasure_n when_o he_o disorderly_o or_o immoderate_o seek_v it_o or_o if_o he_o do_v not_o thus_o abate_v his_o happiness_n if_o he_o rob_v his_o neighbour_n for_o it_o that_o act_n of_o injustice_n never_o fail_v one_o way_n or_o other_o to_o give_v he_o more_o displeasure_n than_o he_o have_v pleasure_n so_o undue_o attain_v so_o likewise_o the_o pleasure_n in_o the_o act_n of_o generation_n be_v good_a but_o when_o ever_o a_o man_n go_v out_o of_o the_o order_n god_n have_v set_v man_n in_o the_o reason_n of_o that_o satisfaction_n he_o act_v evil_a either_o in_o render_v himself_o less_o capable_a thereof_o or_o by_o procure_v himself_o far_o great_a evil_a or_o displeasure_n in_o the_o many_o mischief_n that_o the_o satisfy_v that_o desire_n any_o other_o way_n than_o with_o a_o wife_n natural_o produce_v to_o or_o unhappiness_n a_o creature_n meet_v with_o in_o or_o by_o sin_n be_v a_o satisfaction_n for_o sin_n or_o instead_o of_o obedience_n or_o enough_o without_o it_o the_o law_n of_o god_n do_v not_o say_v it_o be_v alike_o acceptible_a to_o the_o lawgiver_n that_o you_o do_v which_o you_o will_v obey_v or_o be_v miserable_a in_o disobey_v but_o say_v absolute_o thou_o shall_v and_o thou_o shall_v not_o do_v so_o and_o so_o to_o be_v unhappy_a be_v no_o duty_n or_o debt_n we_o owe_v to_o god_n nor_o be_v our_o discontent_n though_o we_o be_v discontent_v for_o ever_o equivalent_a to_o or_o that_o which_o god_n take_v instead_o of_o our_o be_v please_v in_o our_o maker_n will._n it_o be_v obedience_n only_o he_o require_v happiness_n and_o misery_n be_v but_o the_o natural_a do_v not_o thereby_o satisfy_v the_o law_n of_o god_n suffer_v by_o sin_v not_o be_v obedience_n but_o do_v one_o duty_n that_o a_o murderer_n or_o thief_n be_v common_o say_v to_o have_v satisfy_v the_o law_n when_o he_o be_v put_v to_o death_n be_v a_o vulgar_a error_n especial_o if_o it_o be_v mean_v of_o god_n law_n according_a to_o which_o humane_a law_n ought_v to_o speak_v the_o cause_n why_o god_n have_v order_v a_o murderer_n to_o be_v put_v to_o death_n be_v not_o to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n which_o say_v thou_o shall_v not_o kill_v for_o that_o can_v not_o be_v say_v to_o be_v keep_v enough_o though_o the_o death_n of_o the_o murderer_n will_v restore_v the_o life_n he_o take_v away_o for_o it_o be_v but_o enough_o if_o he_o have_v never_o commit_v murder_n so_o much_o as_o in_o desire_n but_o the_o murderer_n suffer_v death_n rather_o because_o satisfaction_n can_v be_v make_v that_o he_o may_v be_v prevent_v do_v such_o a_o irreparable_a wickedness_n any_o more_o he_o that_o have_v once_o by_o such_o a_o act_n declare_v himself_o a_o dangerous_a enemy_n to_o mankind_n one_o that_o regard_v not_o his_o maker_n law_n but_o be_v very_o likely_a to_o be_v the_o loss_n of_o other_o live_v better_a than_o he_o if_o he_o be_v suffer_v to_o live_v die_v to_o prevent_v great_a evil_a and_o to_o save_v more_o precious_a life_n for_o any_o other_o man_n life_n be_v worth_a more_o than_o the_o life_n of_o such_o a_o madman_n as_o a_o murderer_n be_v likely_a to_o be_v more_o beneficial_a to_o mankind_n than_o such_o a_o inimical_a and_o dangerous_a person_n but_o in_o some_o sin_n as_o they_o be_v commit_v against_o man_n satisfaction_n may_v possible_o be_v make_v to_o man_n and_o i_o think_v it_o unreasonable_a as_o well_o as_o dissonant_n to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o a_o man_n shall_v be_v put_v to_o death_n for_o a_o injury_n do_v to_o another_o man_n where_o satisfaction_n may_v full_o be_v make_v as_o in_o theft_n etc._n etc._n if_o i_o be_o rob_v what_o be_v so_o take_v from_o i_o may_v be_v restore_v with_o such_o advantage_n that_o i_o may_v be_v real_o no_o loser_n but_o have_v that_o return_v that_o will_v be_v better_o to_o i_o than_o what_o be_v take_v away_o and_o countervail_v for_o the_o fear_n danger_n or_o other_o damage_n i_o may_v have_v suffer_v in_o beingrobbed_a so_o that_o then_o i_o can_v true_o count_v myself_o a_o loser_n but_o rather_o a_o gainer_n and_o by_o such_o satisfaction_n make_v the_o thief_n will_v be_v a_o sufficient_a loser_n without_o lose_v life_n which_o be_v of_o more_o value_n than_o all_o the_o good_n a_o man_n have_v and_o if_o all_o the_o good_n i_o have_v be_v of_o less_o value_n to_o i_o than_o my_o life_n i_o can_v but_o grant_v that_o all_o i_o have_v be_v of_o less_o value_n than_o another_o life_n it_o be_v certain_o best_a where_o there_o be_v least_o evil_n and_o the_o design_n of_o all_o wise_a lawgiver_n be_v that_o there_o may_v be_v as_o little_a evil_n as_o thief_n be_v cause_v to_o make_v restitution_n there_o be_v less_o evil_a which_o if_o it_o be_v make_v with_o sufficient_a interest_n for_o what_o he_o rob_v or_o borrow_a against_o my_o will_n the_o thief_n will_v be_v sufficient_o discourage_v by_o find_v thieve_v a_o unprofitable_a trade_n and_o no_o way_n for_o his_o interest_n where_o the_o robber_n have_v nothing_o to_o restore_v he_o may_v serve_v in_o prison_n and_o work_v it_o out_o by_o which_o mean_v such_o crime_n will_v be_v more_o prevent_v as_o be_v make_v the_o way_n to_o poverty_n and_o work_v the_o thing_n such_o covetous_a person_n seek_v to_o avoid_v by_o steal_v from_o other_o when_o death_n itself_o be_v to_o they_o but_o as_o a_o desperate_a cure_n of_o the_o disease_n of_o want_n which_o some_o passionate_a person_n in_o this_o and_o other_o discontent_n will_v inflict_v upon_o themselves_o but_o to_o leave_v this_o digression_n if_o the_o sinner_n own_o misery_n be_v not_o a_o satisfy_v god_n law_n equal_a to_o obedience_n another_o misery_n can_v much_o less_o be_v a_o satisfaction_n for_o he_o and_o least_o of_o all_o can_v the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n a_o innocent_a person_n satisfy_v the_o law_n of_o god_n break_v by_o sinner_n it_o be_v true_a christ_n suffer_v for_o sinner_n as_o well_o as_o by_o sinner_n that_o be_v he_o undergo_v all_o the_o suffering_n he_o meet_v with_o in_o people_z very_o confident_o fancy_n and_o assert_v most_o absurd_a thing_n of_o christ_n suffering_n that_o god_n be_v so_o mighty_o please_v therewith_o that_o he_o be_v not_o so_o much_o displease_v with_o sin_n nay_o that_o he_o do_v dislike_v all_o other_o sin_n so_o much_o as_o he_o like_v his_o innocent_a son_n be_v undeserved_a suffer_v from_o the_o hand_n of_o sinner_n they_o fancy_n god_n first_o as_o to_o the_o want_n of_o pleasure_n it_o be_v certain_a god_n make_v intelligent_a creature_n capable_a of_o intense_a and_o perpetual_a pleasure_n and_o satisfaction_n but_o if_o the_o creature_n have_v it_o not_o it_o be_v not_o god_n fault_n it_o be_v impossible_a the_o creature_n shall_v have_v continual_a happiness_n or_o pleasure_n as_o god_n have_v it_o viz._n independent_o in_o itself_o or_o by_o its_o own_o will_n as_o its_o own_o oppose_v to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n god_n can_v make_v it_o no_o more_o than_o a_o creature_n and_o so_o the_o creature_n must_v needs_o be_v satisfy_v by_o its_o creator_n but_o if_o the_o creature_n turn_v from_o god_n and_o set_v up_o a_o will_n against_o he_o he_o must_v needs_o want_v satisfaction_n when_o through_o creature-impotence_n he_o can_v have_v his_o will_n god_n will_v not_o concur_v with_o he_o and_o when_o through_o creature-fol_o he_o have_v will_v what_o be_v not_o best_o for_o he_o and_o find_v it_o so_o so_o that_o if_o the_o creature_n want_v any_o pleasure_n or_o good_a it_o be_v because_o he_o have_v turn_v from_o it_o or_o leave_v it_o or_o at_o least_o have_v some_o other_o sinner_n hinder_v it_o or_o take_v it_o from_o he_o by_o their_o sin_n for_o even_o the_o innocent_a as_o christ_n be_v be_v creature_n may_v suffer_v by_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o but_o the_o presence_n of_o this_o evil_a of_o displeasure_n may_v far_o be_v consider_v under_o two_o head_n one_a displeasure_n mere_o mental_a 2_o displeasure_n or_o pain_n by_o the_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n both_o of_o they_o in_o their_o centre_n be_v nothing_o but_o discontent_a or_o uneasy_a thought_n a_o consideration_n or_o apprehension_n of_o something_o against_o one_o will._n now_o as_o to_o the_o first_o if_o i_o desire_v that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o order_n of_o the_o creation_n unfit_a to_o be_v and_o can_v have_v it_o and_o therefore_o be_o foolish_o discontent_a angry_a fret_v rage_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v not_o god_n that_o make_v i_o do_v so_o no_o the_o disorderly_a desire_n be_v a_o sin_n something_o against_o god_n will_n therefore_o god_n dont_fw-fr will_n it_o to_z will_v something_o against_o god_n will_n be_v a_o sin_n and_o to_o be_v angry_a and_o fret_v and_o rage_n because_o we_o can_v have_v our_o disorderly_a will_n be_v a_o far_a aggravation_n of_o the_o sin_n a_o strong_a will_n against_o god_n will_n therefore_o god_n can_v cause_v or_o will_v it_o that_o be_v to_o cause_v sin_n so_o that_o god_n can_v be_v suppose_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o mental_a unhappiness_n or_o displeasure_n god_n have_v give_v man_n a_o very_a large_a desire_n but_o for_o what_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v cross_v because_o he_o be_v but_o a_o creature_n and_o can_v be_v god_n no_o but_o that_o it_o may_v be_v satisfy_v in_o the_o way_n it_o possible_o can_v viz._n by_o its_o maker_n in_o the_o compliance_n with_o his_o will_n in_o the_o excellent_a order_n of_o the_o creation_n that_o man_n willing_a what_o god_n will_v viz._n that_o which_o be_v good_a and_o so_o to_o be_v doneby_o god_n power_n may_v be_v very_o happy_a but_o as_o to_o those_o uneasy_a thought_n we_o have_v or_o may_v have_v by_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n which_o go_v under_o the_o name_n of_o pain_n and_o disease_n there_o seem_v more_o difficulty_n to_o excuse_v god_n hand_n from_o be_v the_o giver_n but_o i_o think_v if_o we_o consider_v it_o may_v soon_o appear_v that_o god_n be_v no_o more_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o the_o condition_n or_o the_o actual_a existence_n of_o this_o misery_n than_o of_o that_o discontent_n sinner_n have_v when_o they_o have_v not_o their_o foolish_a will_n in_o other_o thing_n the_o connection_n of_o the_o body_n with_o the_o mind_n without_o which_o such_o sensation_n be_v not_o probable_o think_v to_o be_v in_o the_o mind_n be_v to_o be_v ascribe_v to_o god_n as_o the_o cause_n the_o manner_n of_o this_o union_n of_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v use_v the_o mind_n desire_v to_o use_v the_o body_n act_n upon_o it_o by_z and_o with_o it_o and_o receive_v divers_a idea_n or_o thought_n of_o body_n by_o occasion_n of_o it_o god_n will_n be_v indeed_o the_o bond_n of_o this_o union_n he_o will_v that_o the_o mind_n shall_v desire_v to_o use_v its_o body_n give_v the_o mind_n power_n to_o move_v it_o and_o to_o do_v divers_a thing_n in_o
