absolute_a and_o a_o perfect_a answer_n three_o this_o witness_n confess_v that_o dr_n week_n than_o chaplain_n to_o my_o lord_n of_o london_n have_v the_o view_n of_o dr_n clark_n sermon_n and_o take_v exception_n against_o some_o passage_n as_o well_o as_o my_o chaplain_n dr_n haywood_n do_v so_o it_o seem_v there_o be_v cause_n for_o it_o four_o i_o answer_v that_o for_o this_o and_o for_o all_o other_o of_o like_a nature_n my_o chaplain_n must_v answer_v for_o his_o own_o act_n and_o not_o i._o he_o be_v live_v and_o a_o able_a man_n i_o humble_o desire_v he_o may_v be_v call_v to_o his_o account_n for_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o i_o to_o tell_v your_o lordship_n upon_o what_o ground_n he_o do_v expunge_v these_o many_o and_o different_a passage_n which_o be_v instance_a against_o i_o last_o in_o all_o the_o passage_n of_o dr_n clark_n sermon_n it_o be_v not_o any_o where_o distinguish_v which_o be_v expunge_v by_o my_o chaplain_n and_o which_o by_o dr_n week_n so_o that_o the_o charge_n in_o that_o behalf_n be_v leave_v very_o uncertain_a for_o the_o passage_n themselves_o as_o they_o be_v many_o so_o they_o be_v such_o as_o may_v easy_o be_v mistake_v the_o most_o of_o they_o and_o whether_o dr_n clark_n handle_v they_o in_o such_o manner_n as_o be_v not_o justifiable_a either_o against_o arminius_n or_o the_o papist_n can_v possible_o be_v know_v till_o each_o place_n in_o the_o book_n be_v examine_v for_o the_o thing_n and_o my_o chaplain_n dr_n haywood_n for_o the_o mean_v this_o make_v a_o great_a noise_n in_o mr_n brown_n summary_n charge_v against_o i_o he_o allege_v that_o two_o and_o twenty_o passage_n about_o point_n of_o popery_n be_v dash_v out_o of_o dr_n clark_n sermon_n to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o i_o conceive_v my_o chaplain_n will_v be_v able_a to_o make_v it_o good_a there_o be_v two_o hundred_o leave_v in_o for_o two_o and_o twenty_o leave_v out_o and_o that_o they_o which_o be_v leave_v out_o be_v not_o some_o way_n or_o other_o justifiable_a against_o the_o papist_n as_o set_v down_o and_o express_v by_o he_o and_o if_o so_o they_o be_v better_o out_o than_o in_o for_o we_o gain_v nothing_o by_o urge_v that_o against_o the_o papist_n which_o when_o it_o come_v to_o the_o touch_n can_v be_v make_v good_a against_o they_o one_o passage_n be_v here_o add_v out_o of_o dr._n featly_n sermon_n p._n 225._o where_o he_o inveigh_v against_o too_o much_o imbellish_v and_o beautify_v the_o church_n and_o not_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n etc._n etc._n first_o if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o care_n to_o beautify_v the_o soul_n let_v man_n profess_v what_o religion_n they_o will_v it_o be_v a_o just_a exception_n and_o i_o believe_v no_o fault_n find_v with_o that_o but_o second_o for_o the_o overmuch_o beautify_v of_o the_o church_n it_o be_v a_o point_n that_o may_v well_o be_v leave_v out_o little_a necessity_n god_n know_v to_o preach_v or_o print_v against_o too_o much_o adorn_v of_o church_n among_o we_o where_o yet_o so_o many_o church_n lie_v very_o nasty_o in_o many_o place_n of_o the_o kingdom_n and_o no_o one_o too_o much_o adorn_v to_o be_v find_v nay_o the_o very_a consecration_n of_o church_n cry_v down_o as_o be_v before_o express_v and_o this_o opinion_n that_o no_o place_n be_v holy_a but_o during_o the_o service_n in_o it_o make_v mr._n culmer_n though_o a_o minister_n to_o piss_v in_o the_o cathedral_n church_n of_o canterbury_n and_o divers_a other_o to_o do_v so_o and_o more_o against_o the_o pillar_n in_o st_n paul_n near_a hand_n as_o may_v daily_o be_v both_o see_v and_o smell_v to_o the_o shame_n of_o that_o which_o be_v call_v religion_n here_o mr_n nicolas_n will_v fain_o have_v shovel_v it_o to_o the_o outside_n of_o the_o church_n which_o have_v be_v bad_a enough_o but_o it_o be_v the_o inside_n i_o speak_v of_o and_o the_o thing_n be_v know_v then_o a_o instance_n be_v make_v in_o a_o book_n of_o dr_n jones_n the_o witness_n that_o any_o thing_n be_v expunge_v out_o of_o this_o be_v only_a mr_n chetwin_n and_o he_o confess_v that_o this_o book_n be_v license_v by_o dr_n baker_n and_o he_o my_o lord_n of_o london_n chaplain_n not_o i_o here_o my_o friend_n at_o the_o bar_n infer_v that_o dr_n baker_n be_v prefer_v by_o i_o first_o that_o be_v not_o so_o he_o be_v prefer_v by_o his_o own_o lord_n second_o if_o he_o have_v be_v prefer_v by_o i_o it_o can_v have_v make_v no_o charge_n unless_o proof_n have_v be_v make_v that_o i_o prefer_v he_o for_o abuse_v dr._n jones_n his_o book_n and_o for_o the_o docket_n which_o be_v the_o only_a proof_n offer_v that_o i_o prefer_v he_o i_o have_v already_o show_v that_o that_o be_v no_o proof_n yea_o but_o they_o say_v dr_n baker_n be_v employ_v by_o i_o as_o one_o of_o my_o visitor_n and_o what_o then_o must_v i_o be_v answerable_a for_o every_o fault_n that_o be_v commit_v by_o every_o man_n that_o i_o employ_v in_o my_o visitation_n though_o it_o be_v a_o fault_n commit_v at_o another_o time_n and_o place_n though_o i_o humble_o desire_v dr._n baker_n may_v answer_v for_o himself_o before_o i_o acknowledge_v any_o fault_n commit_v by_o he_o and_o though_o i_o conceive_v this_o answer_n abundant_o satisfactory_a for_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v concern_v i_o yet_o mr._n brown_n omit_v not_o this_o instance_n against_o i_o the_o three_o charge_n be_v personal_o against_o myself_o and_o take_v iii_o out_o of_o my_o 47._o speech_n in_o the_o star-chamber_n the_o word_n these_o the_o altar_n be_v the_o great_a place_n of_o god_n but_o hoc_fw-la est_fw-la verbum_fw-la meum_fw-la this_o be_v my_o word_n and_o a_o great_a reverence_n be_v due_a to_o the_o body_n than_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n out_o of_o this_o place_n mr_n nicolas_n will_v needs_o enforce_v that_o i_o maintain_v transubstantiation_n because_o i_o say_v there_o it_o be_v hoc_fw-la est_fw-la corpus_fw-la meum_fw-la first_o i_o perceive_v by_o he_o he_o confound_v as_o too_o many_o else_o do_v transubstantiation_n with_o the_o real_a presence_n whereas_o these_o have_v a_o wide_a difference_n and_o calvin_n grant_v a_o real_a and_o true_a presence_n yea_o and_o he_o grant_v realiter_fw-la too_o and_o yet_o no_o man_n a_o great_a enemy_n to_o transubstantiation_n than_o he_o as_o i_o have_v prove_v at_o large_a in_o my_o book_n against_o fisher_n 292._o and_o have_v leave_v to_o read_v the_o passage_n therein_o to_o the_o lord_n and_o mr._n perkins_n avow_v as_o much_o and_o second_o the_o word_n there_o make_v nothing_o against_o this_o for_o after_o the_o word_n of_o consecration_n be_v past_a be_v the_o minister_n never_o so_o unworthy_a yet_o it_o be_v infallible_o hoc_fw-la 590._o est_fw-la corpus_fw-la meum_fw-la to_o every_o worthy_a receiver_n so_o be_v it_o not_o hoc_fw-la est_fw-la verbum_fw-la meum_fw-la from_o the_o pulpit_n to_o the_o best_a of_o hearer_n nor_o by_o the_o best_a of_o preacher_n since_o the_o apostle_n time_n and_o as_o preach_v go_v now_o scarce_o be_v any_o thing_n hear_v from_o many_o in_o two_o long_a hour_n that_o savour_v of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o st._n paul_n tell_v we_o 1_o cor._n 11._o of_o 92._o a_o great_a sin_n commit_v in_o his_o time_n of_o not_o discern_v the_o lord_n body_n when_o unworthy_a communicant_n receive_v it_o where_o be_v this_o why_o it_o be_v there_o at_o the_o holy_a table_n or_o altar_n where_o they_o receive_v yet_o do_v not_o discern_v i_o hope_v for_o all_o this_o st._n paul_n do_v not_o maintain_v transubstantiation_n mr._n brown_a in_o his_o summary_n charge_v press_v this_o also_o upon_o i_o i_o answer_v as_o before_o and_o add_v that_o in_o all_o age_n of_o the_o church_n the_o touchstone_n of_o religion_n be_v not_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n preach_v but_o to_o communicate_v and_o at_o this_o day_n many_o will_v come_v and_o hear_v sermon_n who_o yet_o will_v not_o receive_v the_o communion_n together_o and_o as_o i_o call_v the_o holy_a table_n the_o great_a place_n of_o god_n residence_n upon_o earth_n so_o do_v a_o late_a learned_a divine_a of_o this_o 260._o church_n call_v the_o celebration_n of_o the_o eucharist_n the_o crown_n of_o public_a service_n and_o the_o most_o solemn_a and_o chief_a work_n of_o christian_a assembly_n and_o he_o a_o man_n know_v to_o be_v far_o from_o affect_v popery_n in_o the_o least_o and_o all_o divine_n agree_v in_o this_o which_o our_o saviour_n himself_o teach_v c._n st._n mat._n 26._o that_o there_o be_v the_o same_o effect_n of_o the_o passion_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o this_o bless_a sacrament_n
into_o a_o jewish_a superstition_n while_o we_o seek_v to_o shun_v profaneness_n this_o calvin_n have_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n assure_v i_o that_o 34._o those_o man_n who_o stand_v so_o strict_o upon_o the_o morality_n of_o the_o sabbath_n do_v by_o a_o gross_a and_o carnal_a sabbatization_n three_o time_n outgo_v the_o superstition_n of_o the_o jew_n here_o it_o be_v infer_v that_o there_o be_v a_o combination_n for_o the_o do_v of_o this_o in_o other_o diocese_n but_o no_o proof_n at_o all_o be_v offer_v then_o bishop_n mountague_n article_n and_o bishop_n wrenn'_v be_v read_v to_o show_v that_o inquiry_n be_v make_v about_o the_o read_n of_o this_o book_n and_o the_o bishop_n of_o london_n article_n name_v but_o not_o read_v but_o if_o i_o be_v in_o this_o combination_n why_o be_v not_o my_o article_n read_v because_o no_o such_o thing_n appear_v in_o they_o and_o because_o my_o article_n give_v so_o good_a content_n that_o while_o the_o convocation_n be_v sit_v dr._n brownrigg_n and_o dr._n holdsworth_n come_v to_o i_o and_o desire_v i_o to_o have_v my_o book_n confirm_v in_o convocation_n to_o be_v general_a for_o all_o bishop_n in_o future_a it_o be_v so_o moderate_a and_o according_a to_o law_n but_o why_o then_o say_v they_o be_v other_o article_n think_v on_o and_o a_o clause_n that_o none_o shall_v pass_v without_o the_o approbation_n of_o the_o archbishop_n why_o other_o be_v think_v on_o because_o i_o can_v not_o in_o modesty_n press_v the_o confirmation_n of_o my_o own_o though_o solicit_v to_o it_o and_o that_o clause_n be_v add_v till_o a_o stand_a book_n for_o all_o diocese_n may_v be_v perfect_v that_o no_o quaere_fw-la in_o the_o interim_n may_v be_v put_v to_o any_o but_o such_o as_o be_v according_a to_o law_n the_o six_o charge_n be_v about_o reverse_v of_o a_o decree_n in_o chancery_n as_o vi_o it_o be_v say_v about_o house_n in_o dr_n walton_n parish_n give_v as_o be_v say_v to_o superstitious_a use_v 1._o the_o first_o witness_n be_v sergeant_n turner_n he_o say_v he_o have_v a_o rule_n in_o the_o king_n bench_n for_o a_o prohibition_n in_o this_o cause_n but_o by_o reason_n of_o some_o defect_n what_o be_v not_o mention_v he_o confess_v he_o can_v not_o get_v his_o prohibition_n here_o be_v nothing_o that_o reflect_v upon_o i_o and_o if_o a_o prohibition_n be_v move_v for_o that_o can_v not_o be_v personal_o to_o i_o but_o to_o my_o judge_n in_o some_o spiritual_a 〈◊〉_d where_o it_o seem_v this_o cause_n depend_v and_o to_o which_o the_o decree_n in_o chancery_n be_v direct_v and_o indeed_o this_o any_o thing_n contrary_a to_o justice_n or_o the_o will_n of_o the_o donor_n or_o the_o decree_n he_o be_v live_v to_o answer_n for_o himself_o i_o it_o concern_v not_o for_o his_o exception_n take_v to_o my_o grant_n of_o confirmation_n i_o think_v he_o mean_v and_o to_o the_o word_n therein_o omnis_fw-la &_o omnimoda_fw-la etc._n etc._n it_o be_v the_o ancient_a style_n of_o such_o grant_n for_o i_o know_v not_o how_o many_o hundred_o year_n no_o syllable_n innovate_v or_o alter_v by_o i_o then_o follow_v the_o charge_n of_o mr._n burton_n and_o mr._n pryn_n about_o vii_o help_v fill_v the_o world_n with_o clamour_n yet_o to_o that_o which_o shall_v but_o seem_v new_a i_o shall_v answer_v two_o thing_n be_v say_v 1._o the_o one_o that_o they_o be_v not_o suffer_v to_o that_o i_o either_o give_v direction_n or_o use_v any_o solicitation_n to_o the_o reverend_a judge_n to_o who_o it_o be_v refer_v 2._o second_o because_o i_o give_v the_o lord_n thanks_o for_o it_o nothing_o but_o text_n shall_v not_o presume_v to_o add_v any_o thing_n to_o it_o 3._o the_o rabbin_n indeed_o reckon_v up_o six_o and_o thirty_o kind_n of_o offender_n which_o for_o their_o sin_n be_v threaten_v to_o be_v cut_v off_o from_o their_o people_n and_o some_o be_v mention_v levit._n 7._o &_o 17._o but_o none_o of_o these_o mention_v in_o leviticus_n or_o 10._o by_o the_o rabbin_n be_v the_o rich_a man_n offer_v turtle_n or_o pigeon_n instead_o of_o a_o bullock_n or_o a_o ram._n well_o this_o be_v the_o strict_a prescription_n of_o sacrifice_n and_o offering_n in_o the_o law_n but_o in_o the_o gospel_n though_o christ_n settle_v his_o doctrine_n and_o sacrament_n yet_o when_o and_o how_o with_o other_o ceremonial_a thing_n be_v leave_v at_o large_a to_o the_o order_v of_o the_o apostle_n and_o the_o church_n after_o they_o always_o provide_v for_o 〈◊〉_d and_o order_n and_o this_o liberty_n be_v leave_v as_o much_o if_o not_o more_o in_o preach_v and_o public_a prayer_n than_o in_o the_o sacrament_n and_o therefore_o my_o lord_n instance_n in_o this_o way_n will_v not_o follow_v from_o the_o law_n to_o the_o gospel_n to_o give_v instance_n in_o his_o own_o word_n in_o the_o law_n the_o poor_a man_n which_o have_v nor_o bullock_n nor_o lamb_n may_v by_o the_o express_a warrant_n of_o the_o law_n bring_v turtle_n or_o pigeon_n but_o they_o be_v to_o be_v his_o own_o which_o he_o buy_v and_o the_o priest_n be_v to_o make_v his_o atonement_n according_o but_o in_o the_o gospel_n man_n do_v not_o bring_v to_o the_o priest_n or_o minister_n their_o own_o doctrine_n or_o their_o prayer_n but_o he_o offer_v in_o public_a the_o sermon_n to_o they_o and_o the_o prayer_n for_o they_o so_o here_o the_o instance_n come_v not_o home_n neither_o as_o for_o my_o lord_n aggravation_n how_o much_o more_o will_v the_o service_n have_v be_v abomination_n if_o man_n shall_v have_v take_v authority_n to_o themselves_o and_o have_v enjoin_v all_o to_o bring_v nothing_o but_o turtle_n or_o pigeon_n indeed_o it_o will_v have_v be_v full_a of_o abomination_n because_o in_o this_o injunction_n they_o will_v have_v go_v quite_o contrary_a to_o god_n own_o command_n and_o let_v my_o lord_n show_v in_o the_o gospel_n any_o precept_n that_o command_v man_n to_o use_v extemporary_a or_o conceive_a prayer_n in_o the_o public_a service_n or_o worship_n of_o god_n or_o that_o forbid_v the_o use_n of_o a_o set_a form_n of_o prayer_n and_o then_o i_o will_v grant_v the_o church_n injunction_n of_o such_o form_n to_o be_v in_o the_o high_a degree_n unlawful_a but_o these_o can_v be_v show_v beside_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o pride_n in_o this_o instance_n for_o my_o lord_n all_o along_o the_o instance_n make_v the_o set_a form_n of_o the_o church_n turtle_n and_o pigeon_n the_o poor_a man_n sacrifice_n and_o the_o conceive_a prayer_n of_o his_o party_n to_o be_v the_o rich_a and_o able_a man_n sacrifice_n the_o ram_n and_o the_o bullock_n the_o calf_n i_o doubt_v it_o be_v so_o a_o very_a little_a before_o his_o lordship_n tell_v we_o of_o a_o negligence_n in_o those_o his_o man_n of_o gift_n which_o may_v offer_v better_o if_o they_o will_n as_o if_o it_o be_v a_o most_o easy_a thing_n for_o those_o man_n to_o offer_v up_o far_o better_a prayer_n to_o god_n than_o the_o set_a liturgy_n of_o the_o church_n whereas_o my_o lord_n must_v give_v i_o leave_v to_o doubt_v that_o even_o of_o the_o best_a of_o they_o and_o so_o again_o a_o little_a after_o his_o lordship_n tell_v we_o that_o god_n will_v be_v worship_v with_o the_o fat_a and_o the_o best_a of_o the_o inward_o which_o he_o interpret_v with_o the_o best_a of_o man_n gift_n and_o ability_n and_o of_o this_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n nor_o do_v the_o enjon_n of_o a_o set_a form_n of_o public_a prayer_n hinder_v any_o man_n from_o worship_v god_n with_o the_o best_a gift_n and_o ability_n which_o he_o have_v and_o who_o shall_v be_v serve_v with_o the_o best_a if_o not_o he_o that_o give_v they_o all_o but_o here_o be_v the_o pride_n of_o the_o instance_n again_o their_o conceive_a tedious_a and_o ofttimes_o senseless_a prayer_n must_v be_v the_o fat_a and_o the_o inward_o with_o which_o god_n be_v please_v and_o the_o set_a form_n of_o the_o church_n lean_a carrion_n and_o not_o fit_a for_o the_o altar_n o_o my_o lord_n that_o you_o will_v in_o time_n lay_v your_o hand_n on_o your_o heart_n and_o consider_v from_o what_o and_o into_o what_o you_o be_v fall_v my_o lord_n conclude_v this_o instance_n with_o this_o that_o if_o it_o be_v leave_v free_a to_o he_o that_o officiate_n it_o be_v his_o personal_a sin_n if_o he_o be_v negligent_a but_o it_o may_v be_v lawful_a for_o another_o that_o join_v with_o he_o in_o that_o service_n but_o if_o that_o manner_n be_v enjoin_v the_o service_n itself_o be_v to_o be_v refuse_v and_o after_o this_o great_a pride_n in_o or_o of_o this_o opinion_n my_o lord_n end_v with_o one_o a_o fallacy_n for_o the_o question_n be_v not_o whether_o a_o negligent_a set_a form_n of_o prayer_n or_o a_o good_a form_n of_o set_a prayer_n negligent_o and_o without_o devotion_n offer_v up_o to_o god_n as_o too_o often_o they_o be_v god_n help_v we_o be_v better_o than_o other_o prayer_n careful_o compose_v and_o devout_o utter_v but_o simple_o whether_o a_o good_a set_a form_n of_o prayer_n such_o as_o the_o liturgy_n of_o england_n be_v be_v make_v so_o evil_a only_o by_o the_o enjoin_v of_o it_o as_o that_o therefore_o the_o service_n itself_o ought_v to_o be_v refuse_v now_o this_o my_o lord_n may_v say_v as_o bold_o as_o he_o will_v but_o neither_o he_o nor_o any_o man_n else_o shall_v ever_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v it_o and_o in_o this_o very_a close_a i_o can_v but_o observe_v that_o which_o in_o i_o or_o another_o man_n will_v have_v be_v great_a pride_n but_o what_o it_o be_v in_o this_o lord_n let_v the_o reader_n judge_n for_o he_o do_v not_o conclude_v that_o this_o form_n be_v enjoin_v be_v the_o cause_n why_o he_o refuse_v to_o come_v to_o our_o prayer_n but_o absolute_o as_o if_o all_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o do_v as_o he_o do_v he_o say_v peremptory_o that_o in_o this_o case_n of_o injunction_n of_o a_o set_a form_n the_o service_n itself_o ought_v to_o be_v refuse_v so_o that_o by_o this_o doctrine_n he_o be_v a_o sinner_n that_o refuse_v not_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n my_o lord_n in_o the_o beginning_n ask_v leave_v to_o speak_v a_o few_o word_n concern_v himself_o but_o i_o believe_v these_o will_v be_v find_v to_o concern_v some_o body_n else_o well_o it_o be_v time_n to_o consider_v of_o my_o lord_n second_o instance_n and_o so_o i_o will_n now_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n god_n have_v appoint_v the_o foolishness_n of_o preach_v for_o so_o the_o world_n account_v it_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n by_o which_o he_o will_v save_v those_o that_o believe_v i_o conceive_v where_o there_o be_v not_o gift_n enable_v man_n to_o preach_v there_o may_v be_v a_o lawful_a and_o profitable_a use_n of_o read_v of_o print_a
