to_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o he_o that_o he_o will_v fulfil_v all_o his_o purpose_n and_o counsel_n we_o must_v understand_v thus_o much_o that_o as_o he_o be_v wise_n himself_o so_o he_o have_v his_o counsel_n both_o for_o war_n and_o for_o peace_n as_o all_o king_n have_v and_o they_o be_v to_o advise_v he_o in_o every_o action_n what_o be_v best_a to_o be_v do_v yet_o he_o rest_v not_o in_o that_o counsellor_n we_o ought_v to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v bless_v the_o consultation_n of_o the_o king_n and_o his_o counsellor_n but_o desire_v the_o people_n that_o they_o will_v pray_v that_o god_n will_v fulfil_v all_o which_o by_o his_o grace_n they_o shall_v determine_v and_o they_o do_v so_o so_o must_v we_o do_v for_o the_o king_n highness_n and_o though_o he_o be_v godly_a and_o wise_a himself_o and_o have_v many_o worthy_a nobleman_n of_o his_o most_o honourable_a privy_a counsel_n who_o be_v of_o great_a wisdom_n and_o long_a experience_n as_o they_o must_v not_o rest_v in_o their_o own_o device_n but_o commend_v they_o unto_o god_n in_o prayer_n and_o desire_v other_o also_o that_o be_v about_o they_o that_o they_o will_v do_v so_o and_o by_o this_o mean_n may_v they_o great_o prosper_v so_o be_v it_o our_o bind_a duty_n to_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o they_o that_o he_o will_v bless_v their_o consultation_n and_o bring_v they_o to_o pass_v for_o the_o good_a of_o his_o church_n and_o profit_n of_o this_o realm_n and_o as_o they_o do_v weekly_o meet_v at_o the_o counsel_n table_n and_o sometime_o often_o for_o matter_n of_o state_n so_o we_o shall_v continual_o commend_v they_o to_o god_n in_o all_o our_o prayer_n so_o shall_v we_o have_v the_o benefit_n of_o our_o own_o prayer_n when_o god_n shall_v fulfil_v the_o good_a thing_n that_o they_o purpose_v and_o as_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v thus_o always_o so_o especial_o against_o the_o parliament_n we_o shall_v pray_v that_o god_n will_v fulfil_v all_o the_o good_a purpose_n of_o that_o great_a assembly_n for_o the_o root_n out_o of_o popery_n and_o all_o remnant_n of_o superstition_n house_n especial_o all_o consultation_n in_o the_o parliament_n house_n and_o all_o other_o abuse_n and_o for_o the_o establish_n and_o enlarge_n of_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o all_o other_o good_a order_n in_o all_o place_n otherwise_o we_o see_v that_o good_a counsel_n may_v be_v give_v but_o not_o follow_v and_o if_o it_o be_v yet_o not_o bring_v to_o pass_v and_o so_o there_o shall_v not_o that_o good_a be_v do_v that_o might_n and_o which_o many_o good_a man_n in_o the_o parliament_n house_n intend_v therefore_o as_o we_o desire_v to_o enjoy_v the_o common_a benefit_n of_o our_o time_n so_o let_v we_o pray_v not_o only_o for_o the_o king_n but_o for_o all_o our_o governor_n in_o the_o church_n and_o commonwealth_n that_o god_n will_v fulfil_v all_o their_o purpose_n then_o ought_v we_o much_o more_o thus_o to_o pray_v for_o our_o self_n if_o we_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n wise_a than_o we_o be_v for_o when_o we_o have_v take_v the_o best_a advice_n and_o thereupon_o do_v thing_n to_o one_o end_n they_o may_v fall_v out_o to_o another_o purpose_n and_o all_o our_o own_o counsel_n and_o purpose_n yea_o clean_a contrary_a to_o that_o which_o we_o purpose_v and_o so_o we_o shall_v be_v disappoint_v as_o for_o example_n in_o matter_n of_o marriage_n which_o be_v a_o ordinary_a thing_n some_o think_v to_o join_v themselves_o or_o their_o child_n in_o alliance_n with_o such_o and_o such_o hope_v thereby_o to_o advance_v their_o house_n marriage_n as_o in_o matter_n of_o marriage_n but_o it_o fall_v out_o otherwise_o and_o by_o that_o mean_v they_o come_v to_o ruin_v and_o so_o god_n do_v not_o fulfil_v their_o purpose_n and_o this_o be_v the_o very_a case_n of_o king_n jehoshaphat_n 21.6_o 2._o chron._n 18.1_o chap._n 21.6_o who_o join_v himself_o in_o affinity_n with_o ahab_n king_n of_o israel_n by_o join_v his_o elder_a son_n jehoram_n reward_n and_o so_o he_o be_v disappoint_v of_o his_o purpose_n in_o this_o journey_n where_o he_o be_v not_o content_v to_o be_v order_v by_o the_o lord_n but_o will_v go_v as_o it_o be_v against_o purpose_v so_o and_o so_o and_o it_o have_v fall_v out_o otherwise_o not_o according_a to_o our_o purpose_n as_o in_o many_o thing_n often_o it_o do_v and_o they_o that_o be_v wise_a to_o observe_v thing_n shall_v soon_o perceive_v it_o it_o be_v to_o teach_v we_o to_o depend_v upon_o god_n providence_n who_o only_o bring_v all_o thing_n to_o pass_v according_a to_o his_o own_o decree_n and_o let_v we_o make_v that_o good_a use_n of_o it_o that_o when_o we_o see_v how_o in_o disappoint_v we_o of_o our_o purpose_n the_o lord_n have_v sometime_o provide_v better_a for_o we_o than_o we_o have_v purpose_v ourselves_o purpose_n how_o we_o shall_v profit_v when_o we_o be_v disappoint_v of_o our_o purpose_n we_o may_v be_v thankful_a unto_o he_o and_o learn_v thereby_o in_o all_o thing_n to_o depend_v upon_o he_o who_o have_v so_o great_o show_v his_o care_n over_o we_o and_o not_o to_o trust_v too_o much_o to_o ourselves_o as_o we_o must_v needs_o confess_v that_o in_o many_o thing_n the_o lord_n have_v thus_o deal_v with_o us._n but_o if_o thing_n fall_v out_o worse_o with_o we_o than_o we_o have_v purpose_v as_o sometime_o also_o it_o do_v we_o see_v how_o god_n can_v hinder_v we_o of_o our_o best_a purpose_n that_o so_o we_o may_v always_o in_o they_o pray_v unto_o he_o that_o he_o will_v bless_v they_o and_o let_v we_o for_o all_o our_o life_n past_a and_o for_o all_o thing_n that_o have_v befall_v we_o in_o the_o same_o acknowledge_v and_o confess_v as_o the_o truth_n be_v to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n &_o our_o own_o comfort_n that_o whatsoever_o good_a we_o have_v purpose_v for_o our_o own_o benefit_n or_o the_o welfare_n of_o other_o and_o it_o have_v so_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o it_o be_v god_n only_o that_o do_v fulfil_v they_o fulfil_v and_o when_o they_o be_v fulfil_v whatsoever_o the_o mean_n be_v for_o both_o they_o and_o the_o success_n of_o they_o be_v of_o he_o and_o so_o let_v we_o be_v thankful_a unto_o he_o for_o the_o same_o and_o let_v we_o not_o ascribe_v they_o either_o to_o our_o good_a fortune_n and_o chance_n as_o though_o thing_n fall_v out_o uncertaine_o we_o know_v not_o how_o neither_o to_o our_o own_o wit_n and_o policy_n to_o our_o own_o strength_n and_o power_n as_o though_o we_o be_v sufficient_a in_o ourselves_o as_o many_o be_v too_o ready_a to_o say_v i_o may_v thank_v my_o good_a fortune_n for_o such_o a_o thing_n or_o i_o may_v thank_v myself_o for_o it_o or_o my_o wit_n or_o my_o hand_n for_o this_o that_o i_o have_v but_o let_v we_o thank_v god_n who_o only_o bring_v to_o pass_v the_o purpose_n of_o all_o man_n so_o shall_v we_o for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v learn_v to_o depend_v upon_o he_o for_o ourselves_o and_o for_o all_o we_o beyond_o that_o that_o we_o can_v see_v when_o as_o we_o remember_v how_o for_o the_o time_n pass_v he_o have_v provide_v better_a for_o we_o than_o we_o have_v purpose_v or_o can_v have_v do_v for_o ourselves_o whereas_o when_o it_o be_v otherwise_o god_n lose_v his_o praise_n and_o we_o the_o fruit_n of_o his_o fatherly_a deal_n and_o merciful_a providence_n towards_o us._n and_o this_o be_v that_o that_o we_o have_v to_o observe_v out_o of_o the_o four_o verse_n the_o fifteen_o sermon_n upon_o the_o five_o verse_n that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o thy_o salvation_n and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n when_o the_o lord_n shall_v perform_v all_o thy_o petition_n here_o the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o prayer_n be_v continue_v and_o end_v verse_n the_o meaning_n of_o the_o five_o verse_n i_o mean_v the_o petition_n which_o the_o people_n make_v for_o the_o king_n where_o they_o show_v why_o and_o wherefore_o they_o be_v so_o desirous_a that_o god_n will_v thus_o hear_v and_o defend_v he_o namely_o and_o triumph_v over_o our_o enemy_n may_v as_o conqueror_n not_o only_o inward_o rejoice_v but_o outward_o declare_v it_o not_o to_o our_o own_o praise_n or_o the_o praise_n of_o our_o king_n so_o much_o but_o to_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n when_o he_o shall_v fulfil_v all_o thy_o petition_n as_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o text_n namely_o of_o the_o king_n for_o who_o they_o pray_v so_o that_o here_o still_o they_o pray_v god_n to_o grant_v all_o his_o petition_n but_o they_o bring_v this_o as_o a_o reason_n to_o move_v he_o thereunto_o or_o to_o confirrme_v their_o own_o faith_n that_o he_o will_v so_o do_v that_o they_o may_v have_v cause_n to_o praise_v the_o name_n of_o god_n and_o so_o they_o show_v before_o hand_n what_o they_o mind_n to_o do_v when_o god_n shall_v thus_o bless_v the_o king_n and_o his_o people_n namely_o they_o will_v
joyous_a and_o with_o glad_a heart_n 7.10_o 2._o chron._n 7.10_o because_o of_o the_o goodness_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v do_v for_o david_n and_o for_o solomon_n and_o for_o israel_n his_o people_n thus_o they_o rejoice_v again_o in_o this_o great_a blessing_n that_o god_n have_v set_v up_o the_o place_n to_o his_o worship_n among_o they_o so_o that_o all_o know_v whether_o to_o resort_v unto_o again_o cause_n of_o joy_n and_o so_o it_o may_v happy_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o we_o set_v the_o one_o against_o the_o other_o we_o may_v easy_o overcome_v at_o the_o least_o the_o extremity_n of_o grief_n and_o find_v fault_n with_o ourselves_o for_o be_v grieve_v too_o much_o 42.11_o psal_n 42.11_o and_o say_v as_o david_n do_v to_o himself_o why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o my_o soul_n and_o be_o i_o thus_o grieve_v have_v i_o not_o these_o and_o these_o cause_n of_o joy_n and_o so_o though_o all_o grief_n be_v not_o take_v clean_o away_o from_o we_o yet_o at_o the_o least_o it_o shall_v by_o this_o be_v so_o moderate_v and_o mitigate_v as_o the_o furious_a spirit_n of_o saul_n be_v with_o the_o pleasant_a music_n of_o david_n that_o it_o may_v be_v tolerable_o and_o in_o some_o good_a sort_n bear_v bear_v so_o shall_v our_o sorrow_n be_v the_o more_o easy_o bear_v when_o as_o it_o shall_v be_v with_o we_o as_o it_o be_v with_o they_o that_o build_v the_o second_o temple_n at_o jerusalem_n where_o some_o weep_v and_o some_o rejoice_v and_o so_o among_o the_o people_n there_o be_v joy_n and_o sorrow_n mingle_v together_o many_o of_o the_o priest_n and_o of_o the_o much_o the_o great_a by_o how_o much_o the_o cause_n of_o the_o one_o be_v great_a than_o the_o other_o and_o thus_o when_o we_o begin_v to_o be_v sorrowful_a we_o may_v also_o begin_v to_o rejoice_v for_o it_o be_v say_v in_o a_o song_n of_o one_o of_o the_o confessor_n of_o the_o church_n who_o desire_v to_o have_v be_v a_o martyr_n some_o man_n for_o sudden_a joy_n do_v weep_v and_o some_o in_o sorrow_n sing_v etc._n etc._n betwixt_o they_o both_o say_v he_o will_v i_o begin_v etc._n etc._n meaning_n that_o he_o will_v so_o sorrow_n for_o his_o sin_n that_o he_o will_v rejoice_v in_o christ_n in_o who_o he_o see_v more_o cause_n to_o rejoice_v than_o he_o can_v see_v of_o sorrow_n in_o himself_o and_o so_o he_o will_v begin_v between_o both_o and_o that_o do_v make_v a_o very_a good_a mean_a so_o must_v we_o do_v think_v as_o well_o what_o cause_n we_o have_v of_o joy_n as_o we_o do_v of_o our_o sorrow_n &_o so_o neither_o rejoice_v without_o sorrow_n when_o there_o be_v cause_n nor_o sorrow_n without_o joy_n when_o there_o be_v cause_n of_o both_o but_o as_o he_o say_v begin_v between_o both_o and_o let_v we_o be_v willing_a to_o do_v thus_o the_o rather_o because_o themselves_o merry_a do_v enter_v into_o the_o serious_a consideration_n of_o these_o cause_n of_o joy_n but_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o sure_o they_o neither_o have_v pray_v unto_o god_n for_o they_o as_o this_o people_n do_v here_o for_o this_o that_o they_o speak_v of_o neither_o have_v they_o esteem_v of_o they_o as_o of_o great_a befit_v as_o they_o do_v of_o this_o that_o they_o as_o they_o ought_v and_o as_o other_o be_v for_o these_o two_o go_v together_o and_o can_v be_v sever_v to_o rejoice_v in_o god_n benefit_n and_o to_o be_v thankful_a for_o they_o so_o that_o the_o more_o we_o rejoice_v the_o more_o thankful_a shall_v we_o be_v and_o the_o want_n of_o joy_n in_o god_n benefit_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o unthankfulness_n for_o they_o as_o we_o see_v here_o also_o that_o in_o this_o verse_n they_o be_v join_v together_o when_o they_o say_v that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o thy_o salvation_n and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n as_o shall_v rejoice_v in_o it_o so_o be_v also_o all_o private_a blessing_n so_o many_o cause_n of_o joy_n to_o all_o those_o that_o enjoy_v they_o whether_o they_o be_v upon_o their_o soul_n or_o body_n for_o this_o life_n or_o the_o life_n to_o come_v upon_o themselves_o or_o any_o of_o they_o and_o as_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o enjoy_v be_v more_o and_o great_a than_o other_o have_v so_o they_o ought_v to_o confess_v that_o god_n have_v in_o this_o vale_n of_o misery_n give_v they_o so_o much_o cause_n of_o joy_n for_o who_o be_v he_o or_o she_o or_o where_o be_v they_o that_o be_v in_o never_o so_o mean_a a_o estate_n do_v not_o enjoy_v many_o great_a benefit_n from_o god_n as_o life_n and_o health_n liberty_n convenient_a food_n lodging_n raiment_n for_o which_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o rejoice_v joy_n in_o which_o respect_n the_o poor_a have_v great_a cause_n of_o joy_n but_o especial_o if_o they_o have_v faith_n and_o repentance_n and_o the_o peace_n of_o conscience_n and_o assurance_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o hope_v of_o salvation_n what_o cause_n have_v they_o then_o to_o rejoice_v though_o they_o be_v in_o never_o so_o great_a want_n beside_o therefore_o in_o their_o poor_a estate_n they_o must_v so_o consider_v of_o their_o want_n as_o that_o they_o do_v not_o forget_v god_n benefit_n which_o may_v make_v they_o to_o rejoice_v many_o noble_n but_o of_o the_o great_a turk_n himself_o &_o of_o the_o emperor_n yea_o the_o pope_n himself_o who_o take_v himself_o to_o be_v king_n &_o prince_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n for_o that_o which_o david_n say_v of_o himself_o be_v true_a of_o all_o if_o they_o can_v so_o esteem_v of_o it_o a_o day_n in_o thy_o court_n 84.10_o psal_n 84.10_o be_v better_a than_o a_o thousand_o delight_n when_o other_o be_v pinch_v with_o hunger_n have_v but_o bread_n and_o drink_n and_o not_o enough_o of_o that_o who_o themselves_o and_o their_o child_n do_v eat_v by_o measure_n and_o by_o weight_n to_o draw_v out_o their_o food_n at_o length_n their_o soft_a and_o warm_a lodging_n when_o other_o lie_v hard_a and_o cold_a and_o scarce_o can_v be_v warm_a all_o night_n these_o and_o many_o thing_n else_o can_v put_v they_o in_o mind_n from_o day_n to_o night_n and_o from_o night_n to_o day_n what_o great_a cause_n they_o have_v to_o rejoice_v above_o many_o other_o let_v they_o then_o in_o the_o name_n of_o god_n so_o consider_v of_o they_o that_o they_o may_v rejoice_v for_o god_n have_v give_v they_o to_o they_o to_o that_o end_n as_o solomon_n say_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o preacher_n 2.24_o eccle._n 2.24_o that_o this_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o all_o that_o a_o man_n can_v have_v of_o all_o that_o he_o have_v to_o eat_v and_o to_o drink_v and_o to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o that_o also_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n as_o he_o confess_v there_o therefore_o they_o above_o all_o other_o must_v confess_v that_o god_n have_v give_v they_o great_a cause_n of_o joy_n and_o nothing_o can_v so_o befall_v they_o unless_o god_n take_v all_o away_o from_o they_o as_o he_o do_v from_o job_n but_o they_o must_v needs_o acknowledge_v that_o still_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o rejoice_v so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a for_o they_o in_o and_z for_o these_o to_o rejoice_v but_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o they_o shall_v do_v so_o and_o it_o be_v require_v at_o their_o hand_n insomuch_o that_o if_o they_o be_v so_o blind_a that_o they_o will_v not_o confess_v that_o they_o have_v great_a cause_n of_o joy_n all_o man_n of_o the_o text_n on_o this_o wise_a and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n that_o be_v praise_n god_n for_o they_o for_o we_o see_v here_o how_o they_o be_v join_v together_o that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o thy_o salvation_n and_o set_v up_o our_o banner_n in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n so_o they_o say_v that_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o their_o joy_n they_o will_v praise_v god_n in_o it_o for_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o and_o this_o aught_o to_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o true_a joy_n in_o all_o man_n and_o for_o all_o thing_n for_o kind_n as_o in_o feast_v which_o be_v lawful_a and_o common_a to_o the_o good_a and_o bad_a and_o which_o be_v a_o honest_a mean_n to_o make_v man_n merry_a and_o glad_a he_o show_v the_o diversity_n of_o the_o mirth_n of_o the_o one_o and_o of_o the_o other_o the_o man_n of_o this_o world_n they_o exceed_v and_o fall_v into_o the_o abuse_n of_o god_n creature_n sometime_o till_o they_o be_v drunken_a or_o have_v surfeit_v and_o so_o also_o give_v themselves_o unto_o that_o mirth_n which_o be_v excessive_a and_o immoderate_a and_o sometime_o yea_o common_o join_v with_o profane_a scoff_a or_o some_o wickedness_n the_o child_n of_o god_n use_v his_o creature_n sober_o and_o in_o his_o presence_n even_o at_o their_o feast_n do_v thereby_o provoke_v one_o another_o to_o praise_n god_n and_o make_v themselves_o merry_a in_o god_n and_o as_o in_o his_o sight_n we_o see_v then_o what_o shall_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o our_o joy_n in_o god_n benefit_n namely_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n and_o to_o what_o end_n also_o he_o give_v to_o we_o so_o many_o thing_n wherein_o we_o may_v rejoice_v even_o that_o he_o may_v have_v the_o whole_a glory_n and_o praise_n of_o they_o so_o that_o whether_o we_o be_v poor_a or_o we_o be_v rich_a have_v we_o more_o or_o have_v we_o less_o to_o rejoice_v in_o this_o must_v be_v the_o fruit_n of_o all_o that_o we_o praise_v god_n for_o such_o thing_n as_o make_v we_o to_o rejoice_v and_o so_o as_o there_o be_v none_o in_o the_o world_n but_o he_o have_v some_o cause_n of_o joy_n so_o the_o lord_n look_v for_o continual_a praise_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o we_o all_o but_o as_o many_o have_v more_o cause_n to_o rejoice_v than_o other_o god_n thus_o all_o have_v cause_n to_o praise_v god_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o manifold_a blessing_n which_o they_o enjoy_v above_o they_o so_o he_o look_v for_o more_o praise_n and_o thanks_n at_o their_o hand_n than_o of_o other_o as_o there_o be_v good_a cause_n for_o to_o who_o much_o be_v give_v of_o they_o much_o shall_v be_v require_v which_o if_o they_o do_v not_o labour_v to_o perform_v and_o profit_n by_o god_n benefit_n and_o by_o their_o joy_n in_o they_o to_o that_o end_n it_o may_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o wicked_a may_v have_v as_o much_o joy_n in_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o possess_v as_o themselves_o yea_o the_o very_a unreasonable_a creature_n and_o the_o brute_n beast_n in_o their_o kind_n for_o if_o our_o joy_n end_v not_o in_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n what_o be_v we_o better_o for_o it_o than_o they_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o a_o man_n to_o say_v i_o live_v merry_o and_o at_o my_o heart_n ease_n i_o have_v many_o cause_n of_o joy_n i_o be_o void_a of_o sorrow_n and_o grief_n i_o have_v nothing_o that_o do_v trouble_v i_o but_o be_o to_o give_v thanks_n there_o which_o yet_o it_o be_v most_o like_a that_o afterward_o they_o do_v but_o even_o in_o that_o place_n where_o god_n give_v they_o cause_n of_o joy_n and_o while_o that_o last_v that_o they_o may_v do_v it_o the_o better_a so_o we_o see_v that_o they_o practise_v that_o which_o be_v speak_v of_o here_o they_o so_o rejoice_v in_o the_o salvation_n that_o god_n give_v to_o the_o king_n and_o to_o all_o the_o people_n that_o they_o do_v set_v up_o their_o banner_n in_o his_o name_n when_o he_o have_v fulfil_v their_o petition_n which_o they_o have_v make_v unto_o he_o before_o so_o must_v we_o also_o in_o all_o fear_n that_o we_o be_v in_o when_o god_n shall_v deliver_v we_o out_o of_o they_o as_o he_o do_v these_o and_o so_o give_v we_o cause_n to_o rejoice_v we_o must_v praise_v his_o name_n for_o it_o as_o they_o do_v as_o for_o example_n when_o it_o shall_v please_v god_n to_o put_v a_o end_n every_o where_n unto_o this_o great_a mortality_n of_o the_o pestilence_n that_o have_v a_o long_a time_n be_v in_o many_o place_n of_o this_o land_n and_o be_v still_o than_o all_o shall_v have_v cause_n to_o rejoice_v plague_n so_o must_v we_o do_v when_o up_o our_o banner_n in_o his_o name_n that_o have_v so_o gracious_o fulfil_v our_o petition_n and_o in_o the_o mean_a season_n look_v in_o how_o many_o fear_n we_o have_v be_v in_o either_o of_o that_o or_o of_o any_o other_o thing_n and_o have_v escape_v it_o and_o so_o now_o we_o be_v glad_a we_o must_v yield_v so_o many_o praise_n unto_o god_n for_o the_o same_o that_o virtuous_a woman_n hannah_n when_o she_o have_v by_o prayer_n obtain_v the_o benefit_n of_o a_o son_n she_o great_o rejoice_v as_o she_o have_v cause_n and_o as_o she_o confess_v herself_o say_v my_o soul_n rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n my_o horn_n be_v exalt_v in_o the_o lord_n 2.1_o 1._o sam._n 2.1_o etc._n etc._n before_o that_o she_o be_v sad_a and_o weep_v and_o can_v not_o eat_v her_o meat_n nor_o hide_v her_o grief_n because_o her_o barrenness_n be_v reproachful_a unto_o she_o but_o now_o she_o rejoice_v and_o in_o this_o joy_n look_v up_o to_o god_n and_o praise_v he_o say_v my_o heart_n rejoice_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o she_o make_v a_o song_n of_o thanksgiving_n unto_o god_n as_o appear_v by_o the_o word_n follow_v so_o must_v we_o do_v in_o all_o the_o benefit_n that_o god_n bestow_v upon_o we_o i_o mean_v not_o only_o rejoice_v in_o they_o as_o natural_a man_n but_o praise_n god_n for_o they_o as_o spiritual_a that_o so_o our_o joy_n may_v be_v such_o as_o it_o shall_v let_v we_o then_o consider_v in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n how_o many_o time_n we_o have_v rejoice_v and_o that_o with_o exceed_v great_a joy_n when_o god_n have_v have_v no_o praise_n nor_o thanks_o from_o we_o at_o all_o &_o know_v assure_o that_o that_o joy_n have_v not_o be_v right_o order_v for_o god_n do_v make_v we_o rejoice_v not_o for_o ourselves_o alone_o but_o for_o himself_o also_o yea_o principal_o which_o be_v the_o best_a kind_n of_o mirth_n that_o the_o wicked_a and_o man_n of_o this_o world_n have_v we_o allow_v of_o that_o wherein_o god_n be_v praise_v and_o of_o that_o only_a for_o though_o we_o be_v not_o bind_v in_o all_o our_o mirth_n to_o sing_v psalm_n neither_o indeed_o can_v we_o yet_o after_o all_o our_o mirth_n both_o for_o it_o and_o for_o all_o cause_n of_o it_o we_o for_o despite_n and_o sink_v in_o because_o of_o all_o my_o enemy_n here_o we_o see_v that_o in_o these_o seven_o first_o verse_n he_o complain_v most_o grievous_o of_o his_o own_o estate_n &_o pray_v most_o fervent_o unto_o god_n for_o deliverance_n and_o no_o man_n can_v say_v more_o either_o to_o express_v the_o grief_n of_o his_o mind_n or_o his_o fervent_a desire_n to_o have_v relief_n and_o himself_o but_o again_o and_o again_o profess_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o the_o voice_n of_o his_o weep_n and_o not_o only_o that_o be_v to_o be_v mark_v but_o especial_o this_o that_o he_o come_v unto_o this_o assurance_n not_o until_o the_o end_n of_o many_o long_a and_o fervent_a prayer_n and_o that_o in_o the_o beginning_n either_o he_o have_v it_o not_o at_o all_o or_o nothing_o in_o that_o measure_n that_o there_o he_o profess_v it_o for_o than_o no_o doubt_n he_o will_v have_v do_v it_o soon_o and_o not_o so_o long_o have_v feed_v himself_o with_o such_o grievous_a complaint_n and_o lamentable_a outcry_n as_o there_o he_o do_v mean_n and_o so_o may_v we_o do_v for_o god_n give_v it_o by_o ordinary_a mean_n so_o be_v it_o possible_a for_o we_o in_o what_o trouble_n soever_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o if_o we_o pray_v unto_o god_n in_o all_o humility_n and_o sorrow_n for_o our_o sin_n as_o he_o do_v even_o with_o great_a abundance_n of_o tear_n for_o he_o say_v that_o he_o water_v his_o couch_n and_o make_v his_o bed_n to_o swim_v with_o they_o by_o which_o hyperbolical_a kind_n of_o speech_n he_o mean_v that_o he_o weep_v very_o much_o not_o only_o in_o the_o day_n but_o even_o in_o the_o night_n also_o and_o if_o we_o do_v pray_v with_o that_o fervency_n that_o he_o do_v not_o faint_v nor_o give_v over_o but_o stretch_v out_o our_o affection_n and_o desire_n according_a to_o our_o present_a need_n it_o be_v possible_a i_o say_v for_o we_o to_o attain_v by_o degree_n unto_o that_o measure_n of_o persuasion_n of_o god_n goodness_n towards_o we_o that_o may_v suffice_v us._n and_o though_o we_o come_v not_o to_o that_o great_a measure_n that_o be_v in_o this_o holy_a man_n because_o we_o pray_v not_o in_o that_o fervency_n and_o zeal_n and_o tenderness_n of_o heart_n that_o he_o do_v yet_o in_o some_o acceptable_a measure_n and_o more_o than_o we_o have_v in_o the_o beginning_n for_o i_o be_o not_o of_o that_o opinion_n that_o this_o be_v inspire_v into_o he_o as_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n who_o have_v many_o thing_n extraordinary_a neither_o that_o any_o man_n can_v come_v to_o have_v any_o assurance_n or_o full_a persuasion_n either_o of_o their_o salvation_n or_o that_o god_n hear_v their_o prayer_n or_o of_o any_o other_o favour_n from_o he_o without_o some_o revelation_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v think_v presumption_n in_o a_o man_n to_o say_v he_o be_v assure_v of_o such_o thing_n but_o that_o god_n give_v this_o assurance_n and_o increase_v it_o by_o ordinary_a mean_n and_o namely_o and_o especial_o by_o prayer_n for_o see_v prayer_n be_v very_o fit_o compare_v unto_o wrestle_v or_o strive_v as_o we_o have_v see_v heretofore_o by_o which_o we_o labour_v with_o all_o the_o power_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o body_n it_o a_o comparison_n to_o show_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o to_o obtain_v some_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n as_o by_o bodily_a strive_a man_n seek_v to_o obtain_v some_o mastery_n among_o man_n and_o thus_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o it_o to_o the_o roman_n 15.30_o rom._n 15.30_o desire_v they_o to_o strive_v with_o he_o by_o prayer_n to_o god_n for_o he_o as_o in_o strive_v a_o man_n strength_n be_v not_o always_o great_a at_o the_o first_o neither_o can_v himself_o or_o other_o perceive_v so_o well_o whether_o he_o shall_v overcome_v but_o sometime_o yea_o most_o usual_o when_o after_o some_o pain_n take_v his_o body_n be_v well_o heat_n he_o increase_v in_o strength_n of_o body_n and_o agility_n of_o limb_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o he_o find_v that_o in_o himself_o which_o give_v he_o great_a hope_n of_o prevail_a against_o his_o adversary_n than_o he_o have_v before_o so_o be_v it_o when_o we_o pray_v to_o god_n and_o as_o it_o be_v strive_v with_o he_o that_o though_o we_o put_v all_o our_o strength_n unto_o it_o at_o the_o first_o that_o be_v pray_v with_o all_o the_o desire_n of_o our_o heart_n yet_o when_o by_o continuance_n in_o prayer_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o we_o be_v well_o heat_n as_o i_o may_v say_v and_o the_o heat_n of_o it_o increase_v we_o shall_v find_v that_o both_o our_o desire_n be_v great_o increase_v &_o also_o our_o assurance_n from_o thence_o of_o be_v hear_v be_v enlarge_v so_o that_o in_o the_o midst_n or_o end_n of_o our_o prayer_n we_o shall_v perceive_v our_o mind_n more_o pacify_v and_o quiet_a and_o ourselves_o more_o ready_a to_o submit_v our_o will_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o to_o rest_v in_o the_o hope_n of_o his_o defence_n and_o deliverance_n than_o before_o whereof_o if_o we_o be_v ask_v though_o we_o can_v give_v no_o great_a reason_n from_o outward_a thing_n for_o all_o thing_n be_v still_o with_o we_o as_o they_o be_v before_o yet_o we_o find_v it_o to_o be_v true_a by_o experience_n and_o must_v account_v it_o a_o fruit_n of_o our_o prayer_n in_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v give_v we_o great_a assurance_n than_o we_o have_v before_o that_o one_o book_n as_o it_o be_v full_a of_o godly_a prayer_n so_o of_o notable_a example_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o his_o child_n and_o servant_n but_o for_o brevity_n sake_n i_o will_v content_v myself_o with_o one_o or_o two_o now_o in_o the_o seventeeth_n psalm_n he_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o be_v preserve_v from_o his_o enemy_n either_o
