on_o the_o â—7th_n day_n of_o this_o month_n bring_v by_o a_o guard_n of_o soldier_n to_o the_o palace-yard_n upon_o a_o habeas_fw-la corpus_fw-la direct_v to_o the_o lieutenant_n of_o the_o tower_n before_o any_o indictment_n have_v be_v exhibit_v against_o he_o that_o whilst_o he_o be_v there_o detain_v a_o bill_n be_v exhibit_v and_o find_v against_o he_o whereupon_o he_o be_v immediate_o carry_v to_o the_o king_n bench_n and_o there_o arraign_v in_o this_o surprise_n he_o desire_v a_o copy_n of_o the_o indictment_n leave_v to_o make_v his_o exception_n or_o to_o put_v in_o a_o he_o nor_o any_o of_o his_o friend_n that_o hear_v it_o can_v full_o comprehend_v the_o scope_n of_o it_o he_o be_v utter_o unprovided_a of_o all_o the_o help_v that_o the_o law_n allow_v unto_o every_o man_n for_o his_o defence_n whereupon_o he_o again_o desire_v a_o copy_n and_o produce_v a_o authentic_a copy_n of_o the_o statute_n eaw_n 3._o whereby_o it_o be_v enact_v that_o every_o man_n shall_v have_v a_o copy_n of_o any_o record_n that_o touch_v he_o in_o any_o manner_n as_o well_o that_o which_o fall_v against_o the_o king_n as_o any_o other_o person_n but_o can_v have_v neither_o a_o copy_n of_o his_o indictment_n nor_o that_o the_o statute_n shall_v be_v read_v the_o jury_n by_o which_o he_o be_v to_o be_v try_v be_v not_o as_o he_o be_v inform_v summon_v by_o the_o bailiff_n of_o the_o several_a hundred_o in_o the_o usual_a and_o legal_a manner_n but_o name_n be_v agree_v upon_o by_o mr._n graham_n mr._n burton_n and_o the_o under_o sheriff_n and_o direction_n give_v to_o his_o ruin_n whereby_o he_o lose_v the_o benefit_n allow_v by_o rhe_n law_n of_o make_v his_o exception_n and_o be_v force_v to_o admit_v of_o mechanic_n person_n utter_o unable_a to_o judge_v of_o such_o a_o matter_n as_o be_v to_o be_v bring_v before_o they_o this_o jury_n be_v swear_v no_o witness_n be_v produce_v who_o fix_v any_o thing_n beyond_o hear-say_n upon_o your_o petitioner_n except_o the_o ld._n howard_n and_o some_o that_o swear_v the_o paper_n say_v to_o be_v find_v in_o his_o house_n aforesaid_a a_o second_o witness_n be_v write_v in_o a_o hand_n like_o unto_o your_o petitioner_n your_o petitioner_n produce_v ten_o witness_n the_o most_o of_o they_o man_n of_o eminent_a quality_n the_o other_o of_o unblemished_a fame_n to_o show_v the_o ld._n hd_n testimony_n be_v inconsistent_a with_o what_o he_o have_v as_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n affirm_v to_o many_o of_o they_o a_o as_o he_o swear_v at_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o ld._n russel_n under_o the_o same_o religious_a obligation_n of_o a_o oath_n as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v legal_o administer_v your_o petitioner_n do_v endeavour_n further_o to_o show_v that_o beside_o the_o absurdity_n and_o incongruity_n of_o his_o testimony_n be_v guilty_a of_o many_o crime_n which_o he_o do_v not_o pretend_v your_o petitioner_n have_v any_o knowledge_n of_o and_o have_v no_o other_o hope_n of_o a_o pardon_n but_o by_o the_o drudgery_n of_o swear_v against_o he_o he_o deserve_v not_o to_o be_v believe_v and_o that_o similitude_n of_o hand_n can_v not_o be_v evidence_n as_o be_v deliver_v by_o the_o lord_n chief_a justice_n keeling_n and_o the_o whole_a court_n in_o the_o lady_n carr'_v case_n so_o as_o no_o evidence_n at_o law_n remain_v against_o he_o that_o whosoever_o write_v those_o paper_n they_o be_v but_o a_o small_a part_n of_o a_o polemical_a discourse_n in_o answer_n to_o a_o book_n write_v above_o thirty_o year_n ago_o upon_o general_a proposition_n apply_v to_o no_o ten_o part_n of_o what_o he_o can_v have_v allege_v in_o his_o own_o defence_n the_o jury_n be_v hurry_v into_o a_o verdict_n which_o they_o do_v not_o understand_v now_o forasmuch_o as_o no_o man_n that_o be_v oppress_v in_o england_n can_v have_v any_o relief_n unless_o it_o be_v by_o â—our_n majesty_n your_o petitioner_n humble_o pray_v that_o the_o prâ—mises_v consider_v your_o majesty_n will_v be_v please_v to_o admit_v he_o onto_z your_o presence_n and_o if_o he_o do_v not_o show_v that_o it_o be_v for_o your_o majesty_n honour_n and_o interest_n to_o preserve_v he_o from_o the_o
