make_v use_n of_o christ_n sacrifice_n and_o of_o the_o betake_v of_o ourselves_o to_o it_o for_o the_o satisfy_n of_o god_n justice_n if_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o remove_n of_o wrath_n there_o be_v then_o sure_a a_o necessity_n of_o close_v with_o christ_n and_o his_o sacrifice_n the_o 1._o of_o these_o uses_n speak_v to_o two_o sort_n of_o person_n with_o who_o the_o word_n of_o god_n have_v no_o weight_n and_o who_o in_o effect_n think_v to_o satisfy_v god_n with_o nothing_o 1._o a_o profane_a graceless_a secure_a company_n who_o because_o god_n keep_v silence_n be_v dispose_v to_o think_v that_o he_o be_v like_o themselves_o and_o that_o he_o will_v never_o pursue_v a_o quarrel_n against_o they_o much_o like_a to_o that_o man_n speak_v of_o deut._n 29.18_o 19_o who_o say_v in_o his_o heart_n he_o shall_v have_v peace_n though_o he_o walk_v in_o the_o imagination_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n add_v drunknness_n to_o thirst_n we_o have_v a_o generation_n of_o this_o sort_n among_o we_o who_o tush_o at_o all_o threaten_n alas_o for_o they_o o_o that_o god_n will_v be_v gracious_o please_v to_o make_v a_o change_n they_o please_v and_o will_v not_o be_v control_v and_o yet_o at_o the_o first_o hand_n will_v bold_o and_o confident_o assert_v their_o hope_n of_o heaven_n as_o if_o they_o have_v never_o be_v sinner_n whence_o come_v this_o even_o from_o their_o suppose_n that_o there_o be_v another_o way_n to_o heaven_n than_o god_n have_v chalk_v out_o they_o think_v they_o may_v be_v save_v though_o they_o never_o betake_v themselves_o to_o christ_n for_o union_n with_o he_o but_o whether_o shall_v their_o sentence_n or_o god_n stand_n there_o be_v a_o day_n come_v when_o you_o shall_v know_v you_o say_v you_o shall_v have_v peace_n but_o god_n say_v no_o why_o so_o because_o you_o never_o know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o make_v use_n of_o christ_n you_o have_v never_o so_o much_o as_o a_o form_n nor_o any_o the_o least_o gust_n of_o religion_n but_o be_v and_o be_v still_o as_o senseless_a as_o the_o stone_n in_o the_o wall_n what_o do_v you_o think_v will_v become_v of_o this_o god_n urge_v as_o it_o weet_v the_o offers_z of_o christ_n upon_o you_o and_o you_o still_o slight_v he_o he_o tell_v you_o that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o union_n with_o he_o else_o you_o shall_v there_o be_v 1._o the_o court_n of_o the_o word_n wherein_o god_n keep_v a_o justice-seat_n or_o tribunal_n condemn_v the_o wicked_a and_o absolve_v the_o righteous_a as_o christ_n say_v john_n 12._o appear_v many_o of_o we_o alace_o live_v as_o if_o we_o be_v never_o to_o be_v call_v to_o a_o account_n and_o as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o tribunal_n that_o we_o be_v to_o appear_v before_o 2_o observe_v that_o all_o man_n and_o woman_n even_o the_o elect_a themselves_o be_v natural_o and_o as_o in_o themselves_o obnoxious_a to_o condemnation_n and_o liable_a to_o the_o sentence_n of_o it_o before_o god_n tribunal_n for_o jesus_n christ_n his_o justify_n of_o they_o and_o procure_v their_o absolution_n imply_v this_o much_o that_o they_o as_o consider_v in_o themselves_o be_v liable_a to_o and_o can_v receive_v another_o sentence_n then_o that_o of_o condemnation_n it_o say_v that_o not_o only_o they_o have_v sin_v but_o that_o because_o of_o their_o sin_n they_o be_v liable_a to_o which_o they_o be_v to_o walk_v 2._o there_o be_v in_o it_o the_o sentence_n of_o a_o curse_n whereby_o the_o person_n that_o sin_n be_v not_o only_o declare_v to_o be_v guilty_a but_o liable_a to_o god_n wrath_n and_o curse_n this_o may_v be_v separate_v from_o the_o former_a the_o law_n be_v no_o doubt_n a_o law_n of_o righteousness_n to_o man_n in_o his_o innocency_n and_o be_v so_o to_o the_o believer_n still_o who_o be_v absolve_v from_o the_o curse_n of_o it_o but_o yet_o the_o believer_n as_o consider_v in_o his_o natural_a condition_n be_v not_o only_o guilty_a but_o state_v under_o the_o curse_n and_o this_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o doctrine_n that_o natural_o not_o only_o be_v all_o man_n sinful_a but_o they_o be_v state_v under_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n the_o law_n say_v on_o the_o matter_n man_n and_o woman_n thou_o have_v not_o abiden_v in_o what_o be_v write_v and_o therefore_o thou_o must_v die_v thou_o be_v liable_a to_o the_o curse_n which_o will_v light_v if_o it_o be_v not_o prevent_v if_o there_o be_v any_o need_n of_o reason_n to_o prove_v this_o they_o be_v not_o want_v it_o be_v so_o 1._o that_o the_o lord_n may_v humble_v all_o flesh_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n 3.19_o that_o every_o mouth_n may_v be_v stop_v and_o that_o all_o the_o world_n may_v become_v guilty_a before_o god_n 2._o it_o be_v so_o order_v that_o his_o grace_n may_v shine_v the_o more_o conspicuous_o when_o the_o person_n be_v find_v guilty_a and_o abnoxious_a to_o the_o curse_n by_o the_o law_n grace_n show_v itself_o to_o be_v wonderful_a in_o pull_v the_o sinner_n from_o under_o the_o lash_n of_o the_o law_n as_o isaac_n be_v set_v free_a and_o a_o sacrifice_n be_v accept_v in_o his_o room_n so_o the_o sinner_n be_v set_v free_a and_o the_o mediator_n in_o his_o satisfaction_n be_v accept_v in_o his_o room_n to_o this_o purpose_n it_o be_v say_v rom._n 11.32_o god_n have_v conclude_v they_o all_o in_o unbelief_n that_o he_o may_v have_v have_v mercy_n on_o all_o not_o that_o he_o show_v mercy_n on_o all_o that_o eat_v in_o unbelief_n but_o this_o be_v the_o meaning_n that_o it_o may_v be_v mercy_n to_o all_o that_o shall_v get_v good_a of_o the_o mediator_n and_o alone_a mercy_n to_o the_o elect_n both_o of_o jew_n and_o gentile_n it_o be_v on_o this_o ground_n that_o ephes_n 2.3_o the_o apostle_n not_o only_o say_v you_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o trespass_n but_o also_o turn_v it_o over_o on_o himself_o he_o add_v and_o we_o be_v all_o the_o child_n of_o wrath_n even_o as_o other_o liable_a by_o sin_n to_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n if_o it_o have_v not_o be_v gracious_o prevent_v use_v 1_o let_v all_o of_o we_o take_v a_o view_n hereof_o our_o natural_a condition_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o better_a for_o we_o that_o we_o be_v more_o frequent_o view_v it_o what_o be_v it_o will_v you_o say_v it_o be_v even_o this_o
and_o please_v he_o with_o duty_n they_o will_v engage_v he_o to_o give_v they_o pardon_v and_o in_o this_o they_o have_v to_o speak_v so_o a_o under_o hand_n covenant_n of_o work_n they_o will_v do_v something_o to_o please_v the_o mediator_n and_o wherein_o they_o come_v short_a they_o expect_v that_o he_o will_v make_v it_o up_o and_o this_o be_v very_o ordinary_a in_o practice_n if_o you_o ask_v some_o what_o hope_v have_v you_o of_o justification_n they_o will_v answer_v through_o christ_n righteousness_n and_o that_o be_v good_a in_o so_o far_o but_o ask_v they_o again_o how_o they_o will_v get_v it_o they_o will_v answer_v that_o they_o will_v do_v what_o they_o thou_fw-mi or_o may_v and_o they_o hope_v that_o he_o will_v pity_v they_o you_o will_v look_v in_o upon_o your_o own_o heart_n and_o see_v whether_o it_o be_v not_o secret_o make_v something_o of_o this_o kind_a the_o ground_n of_o your_o title_n to_o christ_n and_o of_o your_o justification_n and_o yet_o all_o this_o may_v be_v and_o often_o be_v in_o they_o that_o will_v not_o stoop_v to_o the_o way_n of_o grace_n nor_o submit_v themselves_o to_o the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n they_o will_v speak_v of_o christ_n righteousness_n and_o yet_o they_o will_v needs_o give_v he_o some_o compensation_n and_o so_o come_v never_o real_o to_o renounce_v their_o own_o righteousness_n and_o to_o flee_v unto_o his_o and_o to_o hold_v it_o up_o as_o their_o defence_n before_o god_n take_v but_o a_o impartial_a view_n of_o these_o step_n and_o many_o of_o you_o who_o suppose_v that_o you_o be_v believer_n will_v not_o be_v find_v to_o be_v so_o nor_o justify_v before_o god_n because_o you_o lie_v nor_o claim_v to_o it_o by_o faith_n but_o as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n use_v 3_o there_o be_v here_o ground_n for_o all_o that_o neglect_n christ_n and_o do_v not_o by_o faith_n take_v hold_v of_o he_o to_o look_v for_o a_o most_o dreadful_a sentence_n and_o ground_n for_o other_o who_o seek_v righteousness_n through_o faith_n to_o look_v for_o a_o most_o comfortable_a sentence_n 1._o then_o be_v this_o a_o truth_n that_o justification_n be_v through_o faith_n in_o christ_n there_o be_v no_o deal_n with_o he_o but_o if_o we_o look_v on_o god_n and_o come_v to_o he_o in_o the_o mediator_n there_o we_o find_v he_o easy_a to_o be_v deal_v with_o therefore_o that_o which_o be_v call_v the_o satisfaction_n of_o the_o mediator_n verse_n 11._o be_v call_v here_o the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o lord_n because_o he_o delight_v in_o the_o perform_n of_o his_o promise_n to_o the_o give_v pardon_n on_o the_o same_o term_n and_o in_o this_o respect_n we_o be_v to_o make_v use_n of_o his_o own_o righteousness_n for_o obtain_v of_o pardon_n from_o himself_o there_o be_v but_o one_o god_n there_o be_v occasion_n too_o frequent_o to_o meet_v with_o this_o error_n and_o i_o know_v not_o how_o many_o inconvenience_n it_o have_v follow_v upon_o it_o some_o think_v that_o they_o be_v of_o glad_a tiding_n to_o sinner_n and_o that_o which_o make_v the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n to_o be_v diserved_o call_v the_o gospel_n and_o that_o make_v the_o angel_n to_o sing_v glory_n be_v to_o god_n in_o the_o high_a peace_n on_o earth_n and_o good_a will_n to_o man_n that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o covenant_n lay_v down_o for_o bring_v life_n to_o dead_a sinner_n and_o that_o the_o father_n and_o the_o mediator_n be_v delight_v comfort_v to_o say_v so_o satisfy_v and_o well_o please_v with_o sinner_n make_v use_n of_o the_o mediator_n for_o life_n be_v there_o then_o any_o sinner_n here_o who_o conscience_n lay_v open_a to_o he_o his_o hazard_n apply_v the_o curse_n to_o he_o and_o pass_v sentence_n on_o himself_o and_o have_v some_o desire_n
