labour_n upon_o this_o subject_a through_o the_o blessing_n of_o god_n do_v contribute_v not_o a_o little_a to_o that_o weanedness_n from_o the_o world_n and_o all_o its_o vain_a pleasure_n and_o delight_n to_o which_o in_o agreat_a measure_n the_o author_n attain_v and_o which_o do_v so_o notable_o fit_a and_o prepare_v he_o for_o his_o great_a change_n and_o make_v his_o passage_n from_o this_o life_n to_o a_o better_a sweet_a easy_a and_o comfortable_a that_o i_o remember_v i_o have_v several_a time_n hear_v that_o eminent_o worthy_a and_o pious_a minister_n mr._n gabriel_n cunningham_n speak_v of_o it_o both_o with_o delight_n and_o admiration_n i_o do_v therefore_o persuade_v myself_o reader_n that_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o person_n who_o will_v glad_o have_v thy_o notwithstanding_o of_o all_o that_o be_v through_o the_o whole_a scripture_n and_o particular_o in_o the_o book_n of_o ecclesiastes_n hold_v forth_o of_o the_o vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o all_o sublunary_a contentment_n and_o delight_n and_o notwithstanding_o of_o all_o the_o pain_n of_o the_o lord_n servant_n in_o their_o exposition_n on_o the_o scripture_n and_o by_o preach_v to_o rivet_v this_o truth_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o notwithstanding_o of_o all_o the_o experience_n and_o conviction_n man_n have_v of_o this_o truth_n by_o the_o many_o disappointment_n they_o meet_v with_o from_o the_o creature_n yet_o
will_v rather_o desire_v not_o to_o be_v at_o all_o or_o to_o be_v in_o another_o world_n though_o they_o want_v not_o their_o own_o fear_n that_o it_o shall_v not_o fare_v well_o with_o they_o there_o than_o to_o be_v disappoint_v of_o what_o they_o have_v design_v as_o a_o piece_n of_o happiness_n to_o themselves_o in_o this_o world_n whereof_o among_o wicked_a man_n achitophel_n be_v a_o instance_n and_o among_o the_o godly_a beside_o other_o solomon_n here_o who_o now_o with_o grief_n relate_v what_o be_v the_o sinful_a frame_n of_o his_o spirit_n while_o the_o lord_n spirit_n be_v withdraw_v upon_o occasion_n of_o the_o disappointment_n of_o his_o sinful_a desire_n which_o be_v of_o itself_o a_o great_a mercy_n to_o he_o i_o hate_v life_n say_v he_o because_o the_o work_n that_o be_v do_v under_o the_o sun_n be_v grievous_a to_o i_o 6._o even_o these_o who_o have_v the_o seed_n of_o save_a grace_n in_o they_o and_o have_v have_v great_a familiarity_n with_o the_o lord_n while_o the_o special_a operation_n of_o his_o spirit_n be_v suspend_v will_v ready_o run_v from_o one_o extreme_a to_o another_o from_o excess_n of_o sinful_a delight_n to_o excess_n of_o anxiety_n and_o sinful_a vexation_n and_o this_o rather_o because_o of_o disappointment_n of_o their_o sinful_a desire_n than_o because_o of_o god_n be_v dishonour_v by_o they_o for_o thus_o be_v it_o with_o solomon_n in_o such_o a_o case_n who_o shall_v have_v hate_v his_o sinful_a course_n but_o say_v he_o i_o hate_v life_n because_o the_o work_n that_o be_v wrought_v under_o the_o sun_n be_v grievous_a to_o i_o 7._o the_o near_a communion_n with_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o great_a sweetness_n therein_o sinner_n have_v have_v and_o have_v undervalue_v and_o the_o more_o they_o have_v be_v thereafter_o ravish_v with_o sinful_a delight_n they_o may_v expect_v to_o have_v their_o spirit_n the_o more_o embitter_v and_o all_o their_o former_a delight_n make_v so_o much_o the_o more_o grievous_a to_o they_o before_o they_o attain_v to_o their_o wont_a sweetness_n in_o communion_n with_o god_n see_v psal_n 32.4_o cant._n 5.7_o for_o so_o be_v it_o with_o solomon_n here_o who_o hate_v his_o life_n and_o find_v all_o the_o work_v wrought_v under_o the_o sun_n grievous_a to_o he_o 8._o when_o the_o lord_n make_v the_o life_n of_o any_o of_o his_o people_n bitter_a to_o they_o and_o other_o thing_n grievous_a while_o they_o be_v live_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o he_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o far_o from_o take_v it_o as_o a_o token_n of_o his_o wrath_n and_o purpose_n to_o destroy_v they_o that_o upon_o the_o contrary_a they_o shall_v take_v it_o for_o a_o evidence_n of_o his_o prepare_v they_o for_o a_o renew_a manifestation_n of_o his_o favour_n after_o he_o have_v humble_v they_o and_o upon_o the_o other_o hand_n when_o they_o find_v their_o heart_n ravish_v with_o delight_n in_o any_o thing_n under_o the_o sun_n more_o than_o with_o delight_n in_o god_n they_o conscience_n be_v awake_a to_o tell_v he_o of_o his_o disappointment_n of_o desire_a satisfaction_n and_o he_o as_o yet_o not_o restore_v to_o his_o wont_a peace_n and_o familiarity_n with_o god_n i_o hate_v life_n because_o all_o the_o work_n under_o the_o sun_n be_v grievous_a for_o all_o be_v vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n 10_o while_n man_n be_v at_o a_o distance_n from_o the_o lord_n and_o his_o spirit_n withdraw_v from_o they_o they_o will_v ready_o draw_v poison_n from_o these_o very_a same_o consideration_n which_o have_v be_v of_o excellent_a use_n to_o they_o while_o they_o be_v near_o he_o and_o have_v the_o gracious_a presence_n of_o his_o spirit_n for_o this_o make_v solomon_n estrange_v from_o god_n hate_v his_o life_n that_o all_o thing_n be_v vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n and_o yet_o the_o same_o make_v he_o while_o he_o be_v near_o to_o he_o put_v on_o and_o commend_v to_o other_o a_o better_a purpose_n eccles_n 12.13_o i_o hate_v life_n for_o all_o be_v vanity_n 11._o the_o child_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o weary_a to_o view_v often_o these_o truth_n whereof_o they_o have_v find_v the_o benefit_n or_o comfort_n in_o their_o own_o cor._n 7.11_o which_o no_o doubt_n solomon_n now_o be_v a_o penitent_a have_v at_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o his_o former_a way_n see_v this_o hatred_n flow_v from_o such_o ground_n as_o be_v here_o express_v and_o be_v censure_v by_o he_o as_o vanity_n nor_o be_v his_o hate_v of_o his_o labour_n set_v down_o to_o condemn_v man_n diligence_n in_o any_o lawful_a call_n which_o every_o man_n shall_v love_v 2_o thess_n 3.10_o but_o to_o show_v what_o a_o sinful_a frame_n of_o spirit_n he_o have_v while_o he_o think_v upon_o his_o disappointment_n of_o contentment_n in_o his_o earthly_a delight_n and_o want_v as_o yet_o the_o wont_a presence_n of_o the_o lord_n spirit_n which_o he_o have_v when_o he_o write_v this_o book_n and_o to_o show_v how_o just_o the_o lord_n correctâ—_n the_o spirit_n of_o his_o own_o people_n with_o hatred_n or_o loathe_v as_o the_o word_n signify_v of_o these_o thing_n wherein_o they_o have_v seek_v contentment_n beside_o himself_o next_o there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n the_o cause_n or_o ground_n which_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n at_o that_o time_n prevalent_a to_o produce_v that_o sinful_a distemper_n as_o 1._o he_o consider_v that_o he_o behove_v to_o part_v with_o all_o these_o thing_n 2._o that_o he_o behove_v to_o leave_v they_o to_o some_o other_o ver_fw-la 18._o 3._o that_o it_o be_v not_o allow_v he_o to_o know_v whether_o his_o heir_n leave_v behind_o they_o and_o can_v carry_v with_o they_o through_o death_n when_o they_o will_v have_v most_o need_v of_o comfort_n and_o to_o neglect_v the_o seek_n of_o it_o in_o the_o study_n of_o reconciliation_n and_o fellowship_n with_o god_n in_o christ_n who_o will_v go_v through_o the_o valley_n of_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n with_o they_o psal_n 23.4_o and_o in_o his_o fear_n and_o obedience_n which_o will_v in_o the_o gracious_a reward_n thereof_o follow_v they_o and_o be_v with_o they_o after_o their_o death_n when_o all_o other_o thing_n will_v leave_v they_o rev_n 14_o 1â—_n for_o this_o censure_n may_v safe_o be_v apply_v to_o man_n seek_v their_o happiness_n in_o the_o inâ—oymeâ—â—_n of_o these_o thing_n they_o must_v leave_v behind_o theâ—_n this_o also_o be_v vanity_n
