inspiration_n and_o authority_n and_o not_o the_o mere_a bare_a word_n of_o any_o creature_n second_o this_o assertion_n of_o the_o quaker_n involve_v a_o violent_a contradiction_n for_o the_o penman_n of_o the_o scripture_n deliver_v their_o doctrine_n in_o the_o name_n and_o authority_n of_o the_o lord_n assert_v it_o to_o be_v his_o word_n his_o will_n his_o command_n whereof_o the_o scripture_n be_v every_o where_o so_o full_a that_o we_o need_v not_o stand_v to_o instance_n if_o then_o it_o be_v but_o their_o own_o mere_a word_n and_o testimony_n these_o penman_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v saint_n that_o of_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n they_o must_v have_v be_v the_o great_a cheat_n and_o arche_v impostor_n and_o villain_n see_v they_o have_v life_n will_v not_o that_o man_n be_v a_o good_a christian_a and_o a_o happy_a saint_n no_o doubt_n christ_n then_o mean_v nothing_o less_o than_o to_o absolve_v we_o from_o the_o external_n rule_n plain_o show_v the_o contrary_a where_o he_o affirm_v that_o those_o that_o be_v of_o god_n hearken_v to_o and_o so_o be_v teach_v by_o for_o there_o be_v no_o other_o end_n of_o their_o harken_v but_o to_o be_v teach_v their_o external_n doctrine_n which_o be_v write_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o he_o write_v this_o same_o epistle_n of_o purpose_n to_o be_v a_o instrument_n of_o faith_n and_o knowledge_n unto_o they_o and_o will_v they_o then_o force_v a_o argument_n from_o this_o epistle_n against_o scripture-rule_n nay_o there_o be_v in_o this_o epistle_n evident_a demonstration_n establish_v it_o three_o we_o have_v before_o show_v that_o the_o spirit_n teach_v we_o by_o the_o external_n write_v word_n and_o the_o quaker_n with_o all_o their_o wrangling_n can_v never_o make_v it_o appear_v that_o he_o teach_v we_o without_o it_o for_o all_o the_o text_n which_o they_o produce_v or_o can_v produce_v prove_v no_o more_o but_o only_o that_o the_o spirit_n teach_v we_o which_o we_o never_o deny_v but_o hearty_o acknowledge_v but_o not_o one_o text_n in_o all_o the_o scripture_n can_v prove_v that_o the_o spirit_n teach_v we_o without_o the_o external_n word_n which_o be_v the_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d and_o yet_o the_o quaker_n by_o a_o new_a sort_n of_o logic_n invent_v by_o their_o alogical_a spirit_n for_o the_o abuse_n of_o mankind_n do_v from_o every_o scripture-text_n where_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o spirit_n teach_v we_o very_o bruto-rational_o infer_v ergo_fw-la he_o teach_v we_o without_o any_o external_n mean_a or_o rule_n as_o for_o that_o of_o their_o know_v all_o thing_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o all_o thing_n whatsoever_o without_o exception_n or_o else_o they_o have_v be_v too_o wise_a and_o their_o knowledge_n too_o infinite_a but_o it_o be_v mean_v of_o all_o thing_n essential_a to_o salvation_n which_o they_o know_v in_o some_o measure_n though_o not_o perfect_o 1_o cor._n 8.2_o and_o that_o of_o the_o old_a and_o to_o decry_v external_n ordinance_n and_o rule_n or_o teach_v by_o man_n yea_o and_o if_o it_o be_v mean_v so_o than_o the_o apostle_n do_v here_o by_o his_o practice_n contradict_v his_o doctrine_n and_o by_o his_o doctrine_n condemn_v his_o practice_n as_o needless_a and_o idle_a for_o which_o he_o have_v a_o sad_a account_n to_o make_v according_a to_o christ_n doctrine_n matth._n 12.36_o and_o if_o the_o quaker_n think_v that_o this_o text_n overturn_v all_o teach_v by_o man_n we_o again_o charge_v they_o in_o their_o own_o principle_n and_o by_o the_o law_n they_o live_v on_o to_o give_v over_o their_o teach_v and_o spread_v of_o their_o damnable_a delusion_n by_o word_n or_o writ_n for_o i_o be_o sure_a the_o
not_o authority_n to_o feed_v the_o flock_n and_o edify_v the_o body_n of_o jesus_n from_o his_o own_o word_n in_o the_o near_a method_n and_o have_v they_o not_o authority_n to_o furnish_v and_o guard_v their_o people_n against_o damnable_a delusion_n and_o soul-ruining_a error_n in_o the_o most_o easy_a and_o successful_a manner_n they_o can_v if_o they_o have_v not_o authority_n for_o and_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o do_v these_o thing_n than_o they_o have_v not_o authority_n for_o nor_o be_v they_o bind_v to_o do_v any_o thing_n let_v all_o the_o quaker_n in_o britain_n answer_v but_o one_o mouthful_n of_o sense_n to_o it_o if_o minister_n who_o office_n must_v continue_v in_o the_o church_n to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n and_o till_o that_o day_n when_o all_o the_o saint_n shall_v shall_v have_v say_v of_o falsehood_n fiction_n error_n blasphemy_n and_o calumny_n print_v in_o the_o year_n 1668._o and_o we_o have_v also_o see_v several_a of_o their_o sweet_a catechism_n but_o say_v the_o quaker_n be_v not_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christian_a religion_n as_o good_a in_o the_o scripture_n as_o in_o any_o confession_n or_o catechism_n ans_fw-fr yes_o no_o doubt_n but_o what_o of_o that_o will_v that_o infer_v any_o thing_n against_o a_o confession_n or_o catechism_n in_o a_o church_n whereby_o that_o good_a doctrine_n of_o the_o scripture_n may_v be_v more_o speedy_o and_o distinct_o learn_v i_o will_v rather_o think_v that_o the_o better_a the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o mean_n contribute_v to_o our_o more_o ready_a and_o distinct_a learning_n thereof_o shall_v be_v the_o more_o useful_a and_o warrantable_a so_o unfortunate_a be_v the_o quaker_n that_o their_o own_o weapon_n turn_v upon_o themselves_o observe_v that_o this_o objection_n of_o the_o quaker_n if_o it_o can_v have_v prove_v any_o thing_n at_o all_o will_v have_v militated_a as_o much_o against_o all_o preach_a as_o against_o a_o confession_n or_o catechism_n hence_o though_o the_o scripture_n be_v a_o better_a book_n than_o any_o confession_n or_o catechism_n in_o the_o world_n as_o formal_o constitute_v by_o ecclesiastical_a authority_n yet_o a_o confession_n or_o catechism_n be_v not_o therefore_o unlawful_a or_o unwarrantable_a in_o a_o church_n as_o i_o think_v be_v clear_a enough_o from_o what_o i_o have_v say_v but_o say_v the_o quaker_n whether_o or_o not_o have_v you_o a_o infallible_a spirit_n to_o give_v forth_o such_o a_o directory_n confession_n and_o catechism_n as_o you_o have_v do_v ans_fw-fr hereby_o the_o quaker_n refuse_v that_o any_o man_n may_v direct_v according_a to_o the_o scripture_n the_o external_n circumstance_n of_o god_n public_a worship_n or_o that_o any_o man_n may_v catechise_v or_o give_v a_o account_n or_o to_o assure_v their_o doctrine_n from_o their_o own_o infallibility_n but_o from_o the_o infallible_a scripture_n shall_v not_o that_o be_v sufficient_a to_o assure_v it_o i_o can_v but_o think_v so_o to_o the_o law_n and_o to_o the_o testimony_n then_o instead_o of_o your_o inspire_a part_n what_o shall_v be_v answer_v to_o the_o last_o article_n of_o their_o query_n be_v manifest_a from_o what_o we_o have_v say_v already_o concern_v a_o directory_n and_o it_o be_v needless_a to_o repeat_v ten_o query_n whether_o or_o not_o be_v your_o sanctification_n your_o justification_n and_o your_o insignificant_a and_o no_o less_o impertinent_a cipher_n i_o answer_v therefore_o to_o their_o present_a question_n that_o our_o justification_n sanctification_n etc._n etc._n be_v the_o gift_n of_o
