servant_n for_o sure_o parent_n can_v command_v their_o child_n as_o to_o they_o we_o say_v servants_z be_v either_o apprentice_n or_o hire_v by_o the_o year_n or_o by_o the_o day_n for_o the_o latter_a sort_n they_o be_v not_o proper_o member_n of_o our_o family_n for_o the_o former_a doubtless_o master_n have_v a_o great_a power_n over_o they_o and_o though_o if_o they_o be_v stubborn_a they_o can_v direct_o force_v they_o to_o this_o yet_o they_o may_v keep_v they_o to_o such_o a_o strictness_n in_o labour_n that_o they_o will_v be_v glad_a to_o purchase_v some_o relaxation_n there_o by_o a_o comply_a in_o this_o with_o the_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n of_o governor_n for_o the_o good_a of_o their_o soul_n for_o yearly_a servant_n it_o be_v true_a they_o be_v but_o transient_a member_n of_o our_o family_n but_o for_o their_o hire_a time_n governor_n have_v the_o same_o power_n over_o they_o as_o over_z apprentice_n and_o there_o be_v no_o question_n but_o better_a may_v be_v provide_v if_o they_o will_v not_o comply_v beside_o servant_n that_o shall_v thus_o refuse_v must_v be_v 1._o either_o such_o as_o have_v some_o particular_a different_a persuasion_n in_o religion_n who_o it_o may_v be_v understand_v much_o of_o the_o principle_n of_o religion_n or_o 2._o such_o stubborn_a refractory_a person_n as_o will_v be_v keep_v under_o no_o better_a civil_a government_n than_o religious_a and_o so_o unfit_a to_o be_v continue_v in_o our_o house_n but_o we_o be_v very_o persuade_v that_o they_o be_v very_o few_o who_o by_o fair_a and_o gentle_a treat_v with_o they_o may_v not_o be_v bring_v to_o this_o order_n however_o as_o to_o child_n the_o duty_n may_v proceed_v 3._o for_o those_o who_o complain_v for_o want_v of_o part_n to_o discharge_v this_o work_n the_o plea_n only_o hold_v as_o to_o prayer_n and_o set_v discourse_n on_o scripture_n we_o shall_v therefore_o commend_v to_o christian_n 1._o that_o no_o head_n of_o family_n be_v patient_a till_o they_o have_v learn_v to_o read_v the_o want_n of_o this_o be_v a_o most_o inexcusable_a sin_n in_o these_o day_n wherein_o be_v so_o many_o mean_n for_o it_o 2._o that_o as_o many_o as_o possible_a will_v learn_v to_o write_v and_o practice_n write_v and_o as_o many_o as_o can_v will_v learn_v to_o write_v character_n write_v by_o character_n be_v of_o infinite_a use_n in_o this_o work_n 3._o though_o we_o can_v commend_v christian_n tie_v themselves_o to_o form_n of_o prayer_n make_v by_o other_o yet_o rather_o than_o not_o pray_v at_o all_o that_o christian_n will_v read_v a_o prayer_n morning_n and_o evening_n to_o their_o family_n out_o of_o some_o good_a book_n such_o as_o the_o practice_n of_o piety_n etc._n etc._n at_o least_o at_o first_o set_v up_o such_o a_o reformation_n 4._o that_o no_o christian_n will_v rest_v here_o but_o be_v assure_v that_o the_o gift_n of_o prayer_n be_v attainable_a by_o any_o christian_a that_o will_v take_v pain_n that_o they_o will_v use_v all_o mean_n to_o attain_v unto_o it_o and_o to_o that_o end_n we_o shall_v not_o only_o be_v ready_a ourselves_o to_o give_v such_o as_o come_v to_o we_o direction_n but_o we_o earnest_o commend_v unto_o they_o the_o reading_z and_o study_n of_o dr._n wilkin_n book_n concern_v the_o gift_n of_o prayer_n 5._o as_o to_o open_v the_o scripture_n and_o from_o they_o speak_v to_o people_n though_o we_o can_v wish_v that_o as_o many_o as_o have_v time_n and_o leisure_n will_v apply_v themselves_o to_o get_v such_o knowledge_n as_o may_v enable_v themselves_o by_o study_n to_o find_v out_o the_o sense_n of_o a_o text._n yet_o in_o regard_n that_o all_o can_v do_v that_o we_o have_v before_o commend_v to_o our_o brethren_n some_o such_o english_a book_n as_o may_v in_o this_o be_v helpful_a to_o they_o and_o in_o regard_n every_o one_o have_v not_o a_o ability_n to_o purchase_v such_o book_n we_o shall_v only_o offer_v it_o to_o our_o brethren_n whether_o four_o or_o five_o may_v not_o join_v together_o in_o buy_v such_o a_o english_a library_n as_o they_o shall_v be_v advise_v to_o each_o share_n in_o it_o that_o so_o the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o sabbath_n though_o we_o believe_v they_o to_o be_v in_o a_o great_a measure_n the_o practice_n of_o many_o of_o you_o and_o from_o your_o parent_n you_o have_v be_v instruct_v in_o the_o practice_n of_o they_o yet_o consider_v the_o great_a moment_n the_o revive_n of_o religion_n in_o family_n be_v of_o at_o such_o a_o time_n as_o this_o and_o the_o great_a neglect_n in_o many_o family_n occasion_v possible_o for_o that_o some_o have_v not_o such_o good_a example_n in_o the_o family_n of_o their_o education_n we_o have_v think_v good_a to_o use_v the_o private_a christian_n as_o god_n shall_v give_v they_o opportunity_n and_o a_o heart_n thereunto_o only_o commend_v they_o as_o duty_n fit_a to_o be_v sometime_o do_v and_o not_o whole_o omit_v by_o recreation_n at_o other_o time_n lawful_a and_o to_o spiritual_a service_n public_a and_o private_a these_o be_v the_o confess_v general_a duty_n of_o christian_n as_o to_o the_o sanctification_n of_o the_o sabbath_n we_o shall_v only_o offer_v some_o proposition_n for_o particular_a practice_n in_o reference_n to_o these_o general_a end_n 1._o that_o all_o head_n of_o family_n take_v care_n that_o no_o kind_n of_o civil_a labour_n necessary_a to_o be_v do_v which_o can_v be_v do_v before_o be_v leave_v to_o be_v do_v in_o any_o part_n of_o the_o sabbath_n for_o no_o work_n can_v be_v justify_v on_o the_o sabbath_n as_o a_o work_n of_o necessity_n which_o though_o necessary_a to_o be_v do_v may_v yet_o have_v be_v do_v before_o that_o day_n come_v 2._o that_o all_o christian_n will_v on_o other_o day_n because_o it_o be_v a_o day_n whole_o dedicate_v to_o the_o lord_n 6._o we_o commend_v to_o our_o brethren_n as_o part_v of_o their_o family_n duty_n that_o morning_n to_o instruct_v their_o family_n in_o the_o nature_n of_o worship_n the_o several_a act_n of_o it_o the_o true_a manner_n both_o of_o the_o outward_a and_o inward_a performance_n the_o morality_n of_o
