to_o the_o honourable_a commissiomer_n from_o the_o parliament_n of_o england_n the_o humble_a answer_n and_o petition_n of_o the_o protestant_a clergy_n of_o the_o city_n of_o dublin_n humble_o show_v that_o whereas_o we_o have_v receive_v from_o your_o honour_n by_o anthony_n dop_v esquire_n a_o message_n consist_v of_o two_o branch_n one_o of_o a_o demand_n whether_o the_o minister_n will_v officiate_v in_o their_o several_a church_n not_o use_v the_o book_n of_o common_a prayer_n the_o other_o a_o concession_n to_o this_o effect_n that_o such_o as_o will_v officiate_v may_v use_v the_o directory_n or_o such_o service_n as_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o not_o use_v the_o book_n of_o common_a prayer_n we_o hereto_o with_o all_o meekness_n and_o lowliness_n of_o mind_n return_v this_o our_o joint_a answer_n 1_o that_o forasmuch_o as_o we_o see_v and_o know_v that_o the_o protestant_n of_o this_o city_n for_o the_o most_o part_n be_v much_o grieve_v in_o heart_n for_o the_o want_n of_o the_o daily_a accustom_a service_n of_o god_n in_o the_o two_o cathedrall_n and_o the_o parish_n church_n of_o this_o city_n and_o for_o their_o late_a be_v deprive_v of_o we_o and_o our_o ministry_n which_o they_o have_v long_o enjoy_v we_o be_v very_o much_o trouble_v and_o be_v very_o sorrowful_a in_o our_o soul_n for_o their_o grief_n we_o acknowledge_v ourselves_o bind_v to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n unto_o the_o people_n and_o be_v so_o far_o from_o a_o voluntary_a desertion_n of_o our_o church_n people_n ministry_n and_o the_o in_o this_o kingdom_n express_o command_v the_o use_n of_o this_o book_n of_o common-prayer_n so_o it_o forbid_v common-prayer_n or_o administration_n of_o the_o sacrament_n otherwise_o or_o after_o any_o other_o manner_n or_o form_n with_o any_o private_a dispensation_n whereof_o we_o can_v comply_v we_o be_v bind_v to_o the_o obedience_n thereof_o not_o only_o for_o fear_n of_o penalty_n but_o for_o conscience_n sake_n rom._n 13.5_o four_o whereas_o the_o book_n of_o common-prayer_n be_v one_o main_a part_n of_o the_o reformation_n establish_v in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o matter_n ecclesiastical_a the_o order_n ever_o observe_v in_o the_o church_n since_o king_n become_v nurse_v father_n thereto_o be_v be_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v this_o that_o it_o first_o pass_v the_o consultation_n and_o determination_n of_o a_o lawful_a ecclesiastical_a council_n and_o then_o that_o it_o receive_v the_o sanction_n and_o confirmation_n of_o the_o civil_a supreme_a magistrate_n for_o this_o give_v it_o the_o formal_a strength_n and_o vigour_n of_o a_o law_n outward_o oblige_v and_o that_o give_v it_o materiality_n and_o substance_n and_o supply_v ground_n english_a canon_n the_o convocation_n utter_o refuse_v the_o same_o and_o frame_v a_o new_a book_n of_o canon_n for_o the_o church_n of_o ireland_n shall_v we_o therefore_o receive_v or_o admit_v of_o any_o other_o form_n without_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o church_n we_o shall_v be_v hold_v and_o esteem_v before_o god_n and_o the_o world_n guilty_a of_o unconscionable_o betray_v of_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o free_a nationall_n church_n of_o ireland_n vii_o the_o book_n of_o common-prayer_n have_v be_v in_o use_n in_o this_o church_n from_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o reformation_n we_o take_n of_o it_o away_o and_o receive_v or_o use_v any_o other_o form_n not_o establish_v by_o law_n we_o shall_v not_o avoid_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v all_o one_o to_o destroy_v that_o their_o accusation_n and_o imputation_n of_o injustice_n and_o tyranny_n wherewith_o they_o bold_o charge_v both_o our_o church_n of_o england_n and_o ireland_n the_o premise_n consider_v as_o we_o hope_v your_o honour_n discern_v hereby_o that_o we_o have_v not_o light_o or_o obstinate_o or_o out_o of_o faction_n or_o any_o spirit_n of_o opposition_n for_o bear_v the_o exercise_n of_o our_o
