power_n to_o usurp_v another_o man_n pulpit_n yet_o he_o can_v do_v it_o of_o right_o why_o because_o the_o law_n forbid_v it_o for_o be_v it_o not_o for_o humane_a law_n a_o stranger_n may_v use_v his_o gift_n in_o any_o church_n as_o well_o as_o the_o parochial_a minister_n so_o then_o the_o result_n be_v this_o he_o can_v use_v his_o gift_n because_o the_o law_n forbid_v he_o and_o because_o he_o can_v therefore_o he_o be_v excuse_v in_o like_a manner_n he_o can_v use_v his_o gift_n of_o prayer_n in_o his_o own_o church_n who_o be_v forbid_v by_o the_o law_n and_o becase_n he_o can_v he_o be_v guiltless_a notwithstanding_o this_o objection_n draw_v from_o the_o use_n and_o end_n of_o the_o gift_n they_o go_v on_o in_o the_o same_o page_n thus_o we_o be_v yet_o to_o learn_v that_o it_o be_v not_o as_o lawful_a to_o impose_v form_n of_o sermon_n upon_o minister_n as_o form_n of_o prayer_n both_o of_o they_o be_v lamentable_a restraint_n put_v upon_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n bestow_v on_o his_o minister_n from_o which_o word_n charity_n will_v gather_v that_o the_o author_n of_o this_o book_n be_v none_o of_o the_o contriver_n or_o approver_n of_o the_o directory_n for_o these_o lamentable_a restraint_n both_o of_o prayer_n and_o sermon_n be_v to_o be_v find_v there_o but_o i_o can_v conceive_v they_o so_o unlearned_a as_o to_o be_v yet_o to_o learn_v why_o form_n of_o sermon_n shall_v not_o be_v impose_v as_o well_o as_o form_n of_o prayer_n a_o man_n mother_n wit_n without_o the_o help_n of_o much_o learning_n will_v prompt_v he_o easy_o with_o two_o reason_n 1._o because_o in_o the_o sermon_n the_o minister_n speak_v what_o he_o think_v be_v the_o truth_n and_o if_o it_o appear_v otherwise_o they_o may_v reject_v it_o but_o in_o prayer_n the_o minister_n in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o people_n for_o he_o say_v not_o i_o but_o we_o present_v desire_n to_o god_n which_o sometime_o happen_v to_o be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o the_o desire_n of_o some_o of_o the_o people_n yea_o of_o all_o the_o people_n it_o may_v possible_o fall_v out_o that_o the_o people_n can_v join_v with_o he_o not_o in_o one_o expression_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v both_o that_o the_o minister_n prayer_n be_v a_o falsehood_n and_o that_o the_o people_n be_v in_o a_o pray_a posture_n do_v make_v a_o kind_n of_o profession_n that_o they_o say_v amen_o to_o those_o petition_n which_o their_o soul_n abominate_a which_o make_v it_o appear_v why_o there_o be_v more_o reason_n the_o people_n shall_v know_v before_o hand_n what_o shall_v be_v pray_v then_o what_o shall_v be_v preach_v which_o foreknowledge_n be_v the_o effect_n of_o form_n 2._o because_o the_o minister_n in_o his_o preach_n be_v to_o expound_v confirm_v and_o apply_v to_o his_o people_n all_o the_o sermon_n be_v miserable_a restraint_n yet_o the_o gift_n of_o many_o a_o honest_a prisoner_n have_v be_v under_o miserable_a restraint_n and_o yet_o he_o never_o the_o less_o honest_a for_o that_o sect_n vi_o another_o of_o their_o argument_n that_o a_o man_n must_v pray_v with_o the_o great_a intention_n and_o fervour_n which_o be_v abate_v by_o form_n answer_v no_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o a_o great_a intention_n then_o may_v be_v procure_v by_o lawful_a mean_n in_o some_o case_n a_o man_n may_v lawful_o do_v that_o which_o natural_o will_v remit_v his_o fervour_n their_o own_o experience_n prove_v not_o that_o a_o man_n may_v not_o be_v as_o fervent_a with_o a_o form_n as_o without_o it_o this_o kind_n of_o fervour_n argue_v not_o the_o excellency_n of_o those_o prayer_n in_o which_o
