consent_n 52._o we_o never_o hear_v that_o any_o of_o the_o 2000_o eject_v minister_n be_v cast_v out_o for_o any_o crime_n or_o false_a doctrine_n but_o mere_o for_o not_o conform_v by_o declaration_n subscription_n and_o practice_n 53._o nor_o have_v we_o hear_v that_o any_o or_o many_o in_o all_o these_o time_n of_o trial_n have_v be_v convict_v of_o heresy_n or_o drunkenness_n swear_v curse_a deceive_a fornication_n or_o any_o such_o immorality_n 54._o i_o be_o sure_a they_o have_v oft_o request_v that_o law_n may_v be_v make_v to_o constrain_v they_o to_o live_v peaceable_o to_o abuse_v none_o and_o to_o punish_v they_o as_o much_o as_o other_o if_o any_o of_o they_o be_v find_v guilty_a of_o any_o such_o crime_n and_o that_o such_o law_n may_v bring_v it_o to_o the_o trial_n who_o they_o be_v that_o be_v of_o scandalous_a life_n 55._o they_o have_v be_v thankful_a for_o bare_a connivance_n and_o opportunity_n to_o preach_v for_o nothing_o save_o what_o they_o receive_v from_o the_o hearer_n charity_n these_o 18_o year_n some_o that_o can_v live_v without_o it_o have_v preach_v free_o and_o the_o rest_n can_v they_o have_v live_v and_o their_o family_n without_o bread_n have_v rather_o have_v be_v no_o burden_n to_o any_o they_o be_v natural_o no_o more_o in_o love_n with_o a_o beggarly_a sordid_a life_n than_o other_o the_o conformist_n will_v be_v loath_a to_o live_v on_o charity_n many_o hundred_o have_v long_o have_v nothing_o or_o next_o to_o nothing_o of_o their_o own_o and_o wife_n and_o many_o child_n to_o maintain_v house-rent_a to_o pay_v meat_n drink_v clothes_n etc._n etc._n to_o buy_v and_o nothing_o but_o man_n charity_n to_o defray_v all_o this_o and_o in_o the_o country_n money_n be_v scarce_o charity_n too_o cold_a and_o most_o of_o the_o rich_a be_v teach_v by_o the_o clergy_n to_o condemn_v they_o and_o if_o they_o come_v to_o great_a town_n the_o clergy_n reproach_v they_o 56._o many_o have_v dye_v in_o prison_n many_o catch_v their_o death_n there_o many_o have_v their_o good_n and_o book_n take_v away_o and_o many_o endure_v long_a imprisonment_n and_o the_o prosecution_n go_v on_o 57_o the_o magistrate_n of_o london_n and_o other_o place_n have_v be_v vex_v and_o sue_v by_o informer_n for_o not_o prosecute_a they_o 58._o they_o preach_v most_o private_o to_o few_o about_o london_n for_o fear_n of_o give_v offence_n till_o the_o people_n in_o the_o dreadful_a plague_n which_o kill_v about_o 100000_o be_v leave_v as_o sheep_n without_o shepherd_n crowd_v into_o another_o world_n and_o the_o nonconformist_n dare_v not_o forbear_v to_o teach_v they_o and_o god_n so_o great_o blessed_v their_o labour_n that_o the_o people_n and_o preacher_n who_o have_v be_v thus_o awaken_v by_o devour_a death_n resolve_v no_o more_o for_o fear_n of_o man_n to_o neglect_v the_o care_n and_o interest_n of_o soul_n o_o who_o can_v be_v silent_a when_o thousand_o that_o look_v for_o speedy_a death_n do_v crowd_n for_o help_v in_o their_o necessary_a preparation_n this_o first_o draw_v the_o london_n nonconformist_n into_o more_o open_a exercise_n of_o their_o office_n which_o encourage_v those_o in_o the_o country_n to_o imitation_n and_o it_o be_v not_o their_o judgement_n that_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o preach_v when_o by_o oppose_a violence_n or_o the_o offend_n of_o ruler_n it_o be_v like_a to_o do_v more_o hurt_n than_o good_a and_o once_o preach_v to_o deprive_v they_o of_o all_o the_o usefulness_n of_o their_o life_n the_o spirit_n of_o the_o prophet_n be_v subject_a to_o the_o prophet_n to_o reason_n and_o prudence_n in_o the_o use_n of_o gift_n as_o dr._n hammond_n expound_v it_o but_o whatever_o it_o cost_v they_o when_o there_o be_v true_a necessity_n and_o opportunity_n make_v the_o good_a like_a to_o be_v great_a than_o the_o hurt_n they_o judge_v that_o they_o must_v use_v the_o ministry_n which_o they_o be_v vow_v and_o ordain_v to_o 59_o when_o the_o plague_n be_v over_o some_o thought_n once_o again_o to_o retire_v and_o the_o fire_n burn_v down_o the_o church_n and_o the_o people_n be_v destitute_a constrain_v they_o though_o forbid_v to_o go_v on_o o_o what_o be_v man_n what_o be_v the_o clergy_n that_o take_v upon_o they_o the_o charge_n of_o soul_n that_o they_o dare_v be_v against_o such_o man_n preach_v of_o the_o gospel_n in_o such_o a_o city_n when_o such_o a_o plague_n and_o such_o flame_n have_v declare_v the_o necessity_n 60._o even_o when_o the_o plague_n be_v rage_v and_o the_o court_n and_o parliament_n flee_v from_o it_o to_o oxford_n they_o there_o be_v make_v the_o oxford-oath_n and_o act_n of_o confinement_n to_o banish_v the_o nonconformist_n from_o the_o desolate_a city_n and_o all_o corporation_n etc._n etc._n and_o they_o that_o before_o purpose_v to_o come_v to_o the_o parish-church_n dare_v not_o come_v lest_o the_o congregation_n be_v witness_n of_o their_o be_v in_o the_o city_n etc._n etc._n they_o shall_v be_v send_v to_o the_o jail_n 61._o most_o that_o we_o hear_v of_o in_o the_o country_n and_o some_o about_o london_n preach_v not_o at_o the_o time_n of_o public_a worship_n but_o go_v themselves_o to_o the_o public_a church_n when_o they_o have_v honest_a tolerable_a man_n i_o and_o other_o here_o do_v ordinary_a hear_v and_o communicate_v in_o our_o parish-church_n when_o even_o the_o last_o whitsunday_n i_o do_v not_o think_v there_o be_v above_o 100_o communicant_n in_o a_o parish_n that_o its_o thought_n have_v 20000_o soul_n and_o yet_o all_o the_o rest_n be_v not_o hunt_v as_o schismatic_n and_o so_o our_o schism_n be_v not_o for_o withdraw_v from_o the_o parish-church_n but_o for_o communicate_v also_o with_o other_o which_o we_o avow_v as_o if_o it_o be_v great_a schism_n to_o separate_v from_o none_o than_o to_o separate_v from_o all_o save_o the_o diocesan_n conformist_n who_o appropriate_a the_o church_n to_o themselves_o 62._o we_o take_v it_o to_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o do_v our_o best_a to_o keep_v up_o the_o reputation_n of_o honest_a peaceable_a conformist_n lest_o our_o concord_n and_o the_o people_n edification_n be_v hinder_v 63._o when_o we_o think_v it_o a_o service_n to_o the_o conformist_n to_o help_v they_o in_o teach_v some_o of_o their_o parish_n which_o be_v exceed_o too_o great_a to_o hear_v they_o and_o to_o enjoy_v all_o their_o pastoral_n help_v and_o we_o preach_v as_o they_o confess_v the_o same_o doctrine_n as_o they_o yet_o we_o never_o ask_v or_o expect_v the_o least_o part_n of_o their_o maintenance_n much_o less_o preferment_n prebend_n deanery_n or_o bishopric_n but_o will_v have_v be_v thankful_a to_o have_v leave_n to_o be_v their_o helper_n for_o nothing_o but_o can_v have_v their_o consent_n 64._o those_o of_o we_o that_o preach_v at_o the_o hour_n of_o public_a worship_n do_v it_o for_o the_o most_o part_n where_o their_o hearer_n know_v that_o they_o can_v have_v the_o just_a benefit_n of_o the_o parish-pastor_n office_n in_o public_a and_o private_a find_v it_o necessary_a stated_o to_o choose_v other_o help_n and_o other_o hour_n will_v great_o disorder_v their_o family-duty_n beside_o the_o independent_o that_o have_v long_o have_v their_o gather_a church_n 65._o though_o our_o judgement_n be_v against_o plurality_n and_o nonresidences_a we_o say_v little_a against_o it_o lest_o we_o shall_v be_v think_v to_o desire_v part_n of_o the_o prey_n or_o to_o envy_v their_o riches_n 66._o though_o we_o fear_v that_o if_o we_o conform_v to_o the_o profession_n subscription_n oath_n covenant_n and_o practice_n beforenamed_n and_o this_o deliberate_o and_o on_o pretence_n of_o keep_v our_o liberty_n to_o preach_v against_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o we_o shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o all_o the_o sin_n and_o its_o aggravation_n which_o we_o name_v in_o the_o first_o plea_n for_o peace_n yet_o know_v how_o various_a representation_n make_v man_n judgement_n to_o
