the_o immortal_a spirit_n of_o our_o soul_n move_v and_o rule_v our_o frail_a body_n hereunto_o consent_v all_o the_o writer_n of_o his_o time_n as_o ovid_n virgil_n and_o other_o who_o verse_n be_v in_o every_o man_n remembrance_n there_o want_v yet_o the_o wight_n that_o shall_v all_o other_o wight_n exceed_v in_o lofty_a reach_n of_o stately_a mind_n metamorphosis_n who_o like_o a_o lord_n indeed_o shall_v over_o all_o the_o res'due_a reign_n then_o short_o come_v forth_o man_n who_o either_o he_o that_o make_v the_o world_n and_o all_o thing_n else_o begin_v create_v out_o of_o seed_n divine_a or_o else_o the_o earth_n yet_o young_a and_o late_o part_v from_o the_o sky_n the_o seed_n thereof_o uncloong_v retain_v still_o in_o fruitful_a womb_n which_o japet_n son_n do_v take_v and_o temper_v it_o with_o water_n pure_a a_o wight_n thereof_o do_v make_v which_o shall_v resemble_v even_o the_o god_n which_o soverein_o state_n do_v hold_v and_o where_o all_o other_o thing_n the_o ground_n with_o grovel_a eye_n behold_v he_o give_v to_o man_n a_o stately_a look_n and_o full_a of_o majesty_n command_v he_o with_o steadfast_a look_n to_o face_v the_o starry_a sky_n here_o a_o man_n may_v bring_v in_o almost_o all_o seneca_n writing_n lucillus_n but_o i_o will_v content_v myself_o with_o a_o few_o saying_n of_o he_o our_o soul_n say_v he_o be_v a_o part_n of_o god_n spirit_n and_o spark_n of_o holy_a thing_n shine_v upon_o the_o earth_n they_o come_v from_o another_o place_n then_o this_o low_a one_o whereas_o they_o seem_v to_o be_v conversant_a in_o the_o body_n yet_o be_v the_o better_a part_n of_o they_o in_o heaven_n always_o near_o unto_o he_o which_o send_v they_o hither_o and_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o they_o shall_v be_v from_o beneath_o or_o f●om_n anywhere_o else_o than_o from_o above_o see_v they_o overpass_v all_o these_o low_a thing_n as_o nothing_o and_o hold_v scorn_n of_o all_o that_o ever_o we_o can_v hope_v or_o fear_n thus_o you_o see_v how_o he_o teach_v that_o our_o soul_n come_v into_o our_o body_n from_o above_o but_o whether_o go_v they_o again_o when_o they_o depart_v hence_o comfort_n let_v we_o here_o he_o what_o he_o say_v of_o the_o lady_n martia_n son_n that_o be_v dead_a he_o be_v now_o everlasting_a say_v he_o and_o in_o the_o best_a state_n bereave_v of_o this_o earthly_a baggage_n which_o be_v none_o of_o he_o and_o set_v free_a to_o himself_o for_o these_o bone_n these_o sinew_n this_o coat_n of_o skin_n this_o face_n and_o these_o serviceable_a hand_n be_v but_o fetters_o and_o prison_n of_o the_o soul_n by_o they_o the_o soul_n be_v overwhelm_v beat_v down_o and_o chase_v away_o it_o have_v not_o a_o great_a battle_n than_o with_o that_o mass_n of_o flesh_n for_o fear_v of_o be_v tear_v in_o piece_n it_o labour_v to_o return_v from_o whence_o it_o come_v where_o it_o have_v ready_a for_o it_o a_o happy_a and_o everlasting_a rest_n and_o again_o this_o soul_n can_v be_v make_v a_o outlaw_n for_o it_o be_v a_o kin_n to_o the_o god_n equal_a to_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o to_o all_o time_n and_o the_o thought_n or_o conceit_n thereof_o go_v about_o the_o whole_a heaven_n extend_v itself_o from_o the_o beginning_n of_o all_o time_n to_o the_o uttermost_a point_n of_o that_o which_o be_v to_o come_v the_o wretched_a course_n be_v the_o jail_n and_o fetters_o of_o the_o soul_n be_v toss_v to_o and_o fro_o upon_o that_o be_v torment_n murder_n and_o disease_n execute_v as_o for_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v holy_a and_o everlasting_a and_o can_v be_v lay_v hand_n on_o when_o it_o be_v out_o of_o this_o body_n it_o be_v at_o liberty_n and_o set_v free_a from_o all_o bondage_n and_o be_v conversant_a in_o that_o beautiful_a place_n wheresoever_o it_o be_v which_o receive_v man_n soul_n into_o the_o bless_a rest_n thereof_o as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o hence_o to_o be_v short_a he_o seem_v to_o prick_v very_o never_o to_o the_o rise_n again_o of_o the_o dead_a for_o in_o a_o certain_a epistle_n to_o lucillus_n his_o word_n be_v these_o death_n whereof_o we_o be_v so_o much_o afraid_a do_v not_o bereve_v we_o of_o life_n but_o only_o discontinew_v it_o for_o a_o time_n and_o a_o day_n will_v come_v that_o shall_v bring_v we_o to_o light_v again_o this_o may_v suffice_v to_o give_v we_o knowledge_n of_o the_o opinion_n of_o that_o great_a personage_n in_o who_o we_o see_v that_o the_o more_o he_o grow_v in_o age_n the_o near_a he_o come_v still_o to_o the_o true_a birth_n for_o in_o his_o late_a book_n he_o treat_v always_o both_o more_o assure_o and_o more_o evident_o thereof_o also_o the_o say_n of_o phavorinus_n be_v notable_a phavorinus_n there_o be_v nothing_o great_a in_o earth_n say_v he_o but_o man_n and_o nothing_o great_a in_o man_n but_o his_o soul_n if_o thou_o mount_v up_o thither_o thou_o mounte_v above_o heaven_n and_o if_o thou_o stoop_v down_o again_o to_o the_o body_n and_o compare_v it_o with_o the_o heaven_n it_o be_v less_o than_o a_o fly_n or_o rather_o a_o thing_n of_o nothing_o at_o one_o word_n this_o be_v as_o much_o to_o say_v as_o that_o in_o this_o clod_n of_o clay_n there_o dwell_v a_o divine_a and_o uncorruptible_a nature_n for_o how_o can_v it_o else_o be_v great_a than_o the_o whole_a world_n as_o touch_v the_o nation_n of_o old_a time_n nation_n we_o read_v of_o they_o all_o that_o they_o have_v certain_a religion_n and_o divine_a service_n so_o as_o they_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v a_o hell_n and_o certain_a field_n which_o they_o call_v the_o elysian_a field_n as_o we_o see_v in_o the_o poet_n pindarus_n diphilus_n sophocles_n euripides_n and_o other_o abstinence_n the_o more_o superstitious_a that_o they_o be_v the_o more_o sufficient_o do_v they_o witness_v unto_o we_o what_o be_v in_o their_o conscience_n for_o true_a religion_n and_o superstition_n have_v both_o one_o ground_n namely_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n and_o there_o can_v be_v no_o religion_n at_o all_o skin_n if_o the_o soul_n live_v not_o when_o it_o be_v go_v hence_o we_o read_v of_o the_o indian_n that_o they_o burn_v themselves_o afore_o they_o come_v to_o extreme_a oldage_n term_v it_o the_o let_n of_o man_n loose_a and_o the_o free_n of_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o body_n and_o the_o soon_o that_o a_o man_n do_v it_o the_o wise_a be_v he_o esteem_v which_o custom_n be_v observe_v still_o at_o this_o day_n among_o the_o people_n that_o dwell_v by_o the_o river_n niger_n otherwise_o call_v the_o people_n of_o senega_n in_o africa_n who_o offer_v themselves_o willing_o to_o be_v bury_v quick_a with_o their_o master_n all_o the_o demonstration_n of_o logic_n and_o mathematic_a say_v zeno_n have_v not_o so_o much_o force_n to_o prove_v the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n as_o this_o only_a do_n of_o they_o have_v also_o great_a alexander_n have_v take_v prisoner_n ten_o of_o their_o philosopher_n who_o they_o call_v gimnosophist_n ask_v of_o one_o of_o they_o to_o try_v their_o wisdom_n whether_o there_o be_v more_o man_n alive_a or_o dead_a the_o philosopher_n answer_v that_o there_o be_v more_o alive_a because_o say_v he_o there_o be_v none_o dead_a you_o may_v well_o think_v they_o give_v a_o dry_a mock_n to_o all_o the_o argument_n of_o aristotle_n and_o callisthenes_n which_o with_o all_o their_o philosophy_n have_v teach_v their_o scholar_n alexander_n so_o evil_a of_o the_o thracian_n we_o read_v that_o they_o sorrow_v at_o the_o birth_n of_o man_n and_o rejoice_v at_o the_o death_n of_o they_o yea_o even_o of_o their_o own_o childen_a and_o that_o be_v because_o they_o think_v that_o which_o we_o call_v death_n not_o to_o be_v a_o death_n in_o deed_n but_o rather_o a_o very_a happy_a birth_n and_o these_o be_v the_o people_n who_o herodotus_n report_v to_o have_v be_v call_v the_o neverdying_a gete_n and_o who_o the_o greek_n call_v the_o neverdying_a gete_n or_o thracian_n rest_n who_o be_v of_o opinion_n that_o at_o their_o depart_n out_o of_o this_o world_n they_o go_v to_o zamolxis_n or_o gebeleizy_n that_o be_v to_o say_v after_o the_o interpretation_n of_o the_o getish_a or_o goatish_a tongue_n to_o he_o that_o give_v they_o health_n salvation_n or_o welfare_n and_o gather_v they_o together_o the_o like_a be_v say_v of_o the_o gall_n chief_o of_o the_o inhabiter_n about_o marsilles_n and_o of_o their_o druid_n of_o the_o hetruscian_n and_o their_o bishop_n and_o of_o the_o scythian_n and_o their_o sage_n of_o who_o all_o the_o learning_n and_o wisdom_n be_v ground_v upon_o this_o point_n for_o look_v how_o man_n do_v spread_v abroad_o so_o also_o do_v this_o doctrine_n which_o be_v so_o deep_o print_v in_o man_n that_o he_o can_v but_o carry_v it_o continual_o with_o he_o which_o thing_n be_v
pherecides_n hold_v opinion_n that_o the_o soul_n be_v a_o bodylesse_a and_o immortal_a substance_n put_v into_o this_o body_n as_o into_o a_o prison_n for_o sin_v and_o whereas_o the_o fleet_n of_o soul_n out_o of_o one_o body_n into_o another_o be_v father_v upon_o he_o although_o the_o opinion_n be_v not_o direct_o against_o the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n yet_o do_v many_o man_n think_v that_o he_o have_v wrong_n do_v unto_o he_o and_o his_o disciple_n timaeus_n of_o locres_n report_v otherwise_o of_o he_o for_o what_o punishment_n be_v it_o to_o a_o voluptuous_a man_n to_o have_v his_o soul_n put_v into_o a_o beast_n that_o he_o may_v become_v the_o more_o voluptuous_a without_o remorse_n of_o sin_n sooth_o it_o be_v all_o one_o as_o if_o in_o punishment_n of_o murder_n or_o theft_n you_o will_v make_v the_o murderer_n to_o cut_v the_o throat_n of_o his_o own_o father_n and_o mother_n or_o the_o thief_n to_o commit_v treachery_n against_o god_n howsoever_o the_o case_n stand_v he_o teach_v in_o his_o verse_n that_o man_n be_v of_o heavenly_a race_n and_o that_o as_o jamblichus_n report_v he_o be_v set_v in_o this_o world_n to_o behold_v god_n and_o his_o disciple_n arckitas_n say_v pythagor●s_fw-la that_o god_n breathe_v reason_n and_o understanding_n into_o he_o likewise_o philolaus_n affirm_v that_o the_o divine_n and_o prophet_n of_o old_a time_n bear_v record_n alexandria_n that_o the_o soul_n be_v couple_v with_o the_o body_n for_o her_o sin_n and_o bury_v in_o the_o same_o as_o in_o a_o grave_n of_o epicharmus_n we_o have_v this_o say_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o good_a man_n in_o thy_o heart_n death_n can_v do_v thou_o no_o harm_n for_o thy_o soul_n shall_v live_v happy_o in_o heaven_n etc._n etc._n also_o of_o heraclides_n we_o have_v this_o say_n we_o live_v the_o death_n of_o they_o that_o be_v to_o say_v of_o the_o bless_a his_o meaning_n be_v that_o we_o be_v not_o bury_v with_o our_o body_n and_o we_o die_v their_o life_n that_o be_v to_o say_v we_o be_v still_o after_o this_o body_n of_o we_o be_v dead_a zeno_n of_o the_o like_a opinion_n be_v thales_n anaxagoras_n and_o diogenes_n concerning_o this_o point_n yea_o and_o so_o be_v zeno_n too_o howbeit_o that_o he_o think_v the_o soul_n to_o be_v beget_v of_o man_n wherein_o he_o be_v contrary_a to_o himself_o to_o be_v short_a scarce_o be_v there_o any_o to_o be_v find_v among_o the_o man_n of_o old_a time_n epicurus_n save_v only_a democritus_n and_o epicurus_n that_o hold_v the_o contrary_a way_n who_o the_o poet_n lucre_n imitate_v afterward_o in_o his_o verse_n yet_o notwithstanding_o when_o epicurus_n shall_v die_v he_o command_v a_o anniversary_n or_o yeerminde_v to_o be_v keep_v in_o remembrance_n of_o he_o by_o his_o disciple_n so_o great_o delight_v he_o in_o a_o vain_a shadow_n of_o immortality_n have_v shake_v off_o the_o very_a thing_n itself_o lucretius_n and_o lucrece_n as_o it_o be_v write_v of_o he_o make_v his_o book_n be_v mad_a at_o such_o time_n as_o the_o fit_n of_o his_o madness_n be_v off_o he_o sure_o more_o mad_a when_o he_o think_v himself_o wise_a than_o when_o the_o fit_n of_o his_o frenzy_n be_v strong_a upon_o he_o whosoever_o read_v the_o goodly_a discourse_n of_o socrates_n upon_o his_o drink_n of_o poison_n xenophon_n as_o they_o be_v report_v by_o plato_n and_o xenophon_n himself_o can_v doubt_n of_o his_o opinion_n in_o this_o case_n for_o he_o not_o only_o believe_v it_o himself_o but_o also_o persuade_v many_o man_n to_o it_o with_o lively_a reason_n yea_o and_o by_o his_o own_o death_n much_o more_o than_o by_o all_o his_o life_n and_o so_o you_o see_v we_o be_v come_v unto_o plato_n and_o aristotle_n with_o consent_n of_o all_o the_o wise_a man_n of_o old_a time_n ungainsay_v of_o any_o save_v of_o a_o two_o or_o three_o malapart_a wretch_n who_o the_o ungraciousness_n of_o our_o day_n will_v esteem_v but_o as_o drunken_a sot_n and_o disard_n timaeus_n certes_o plato_n who_o may_v peradventure_o have_v hear_v speak_v of_o the_o book_n of_o moses_n do_v in_o his_o timaeus_n bring_v in_o god_n give_v commandment_n to_o the_o under-god_n who_o he_o create_v that_o they_o shall_v make_v man_n both_o of_o mortal_a and_o of_o immortal_a substance_n wherein_o it_o may_v be_v that_o he_o allude_v to_o this_o say_n in_o genesis_n let_v we_o make_v man_n after_o our_o own_o image_n and_o likeness_n in_o which_o case_n the_o jew_n say_v that_o god_n direct_v his_o speech_n to_o his_o angel_n but_o our_o divine_n say_v he_o speak_v to_o himself_o but_o anon_o after_o both_o in_o the_o same_o book_n and_o in_o many_o other_o place_n plato_n as_o it_o be_v comm_v to_o himself_o again_o teach_v that_o god_n create_v man_n by_o himself_o commonweal_n yea_o and_o even_o his_o liver_n and_o his_o brain_n and_o all_o his_o sense_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o soul_n of_o he_o not_o only_o endue_v with_o reason_n and_o understanding_n but_o also_o with_o sense_n and_o ability_n of_o grow_v and_o increase_v and_o also_o the_o instrument_n whereby_o the_o same_o do_v work_v moreover_o he_o make_v such_o a_o manifest_a difference_n between_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o body_n as_o that_o he_o match_v they_o not_o together_o as_o matter_n and_o form_n as_o aristotle_n do_v but_o as_o a_o pilot_n and_o a_o ship_n a_o commonweal_n and_o a_o magistrate_n a_o image_n and_o he_o that_o bear_v it_o upon_o he_o what_o great_a thing_n can_v there_o be_v than_o to_o be_v like_o god_n commonweal_n now_o say_v plato_n in_o his_o phoedon_n the_o soul_n of_o man_n be_v very_o like_o the_o godhead_n immortal_a reasonable_a uniform_a undissoluble_a and_o evermore_o of_o one_o sort_n which_o be_v condition_n say_v he_o in_o his_o matter_n of_o state_n that_o can_v agree_v but_o to_o thing_n most_o divine_a and_o therefore_o at_o his_o depart_n out_o of_o the_o world_n he_o will_v his_o soul_n to_o return_v home_o too_o her_o kindred_n and_o to_o her_o first_o original_n that_o be_v to_o wit_n as_o he_o himself_o say_v there_o to_o the_o wise_a and_o immortal_a godhead_n the_o fountain_n of_o all_o goodness_n as_o call_v home_o from_o banishment_n into_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n save_v that_o some_o of_o they_o derive_v it_o from_o god_n and_o some_o from_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o world_n some_o make_v but_o the_o reason_n or_o mind_n only_o to_o be_v immortal_a and_o some_o the_o whole_a soul_n which_o disagreement_n may_v well_o be_v salve_v if_o we_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n all_o whole_a together_o be_v immortal_a in_o power_n or_o ability_n though_o the_o execution_n and_o performance_n of_o the_o action_n which_o be_v to_o be_v do_v by_o the_o body_n be_v forego_v with_o the_o instrument_n or_o member_n of_o the_o body_n the_o disagreement_n concerning_o this_o point_n among_o such_o as_o a_o man_n may_v vouchsafe_v to_o call_v by_o the_o name_n of_o philosopher_n seem_v to_o have_v begin_v at_o aristotle_n howbeit_o that_o his_o disciple_n count_v it_o a_o commendation_n to_o he_o that_o he_o have_v give_v occasion_n to_o doubt_n of_o his_o opinion_n in_o that_o behalf_n for_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o his_o new_a find_a doctrine_n of_o the_o eternity_n or_o everlastingness_n of_o the_o world_n have_v distrouble_v his_o brain_n in_o many_o other_o thing_n as_o common_o it_o fall_v out_o that_o one_o error_n breed_v many_o other_o thing_n because_o nature_n say_v he_o can_v not_o make_v every_o man_n particular_o to_o continue_v for_o ever_o by_o himself_o therefore_o she_o continue_v he_o in_o the_o mortal_a it_o follow_v consequent_o also_o that_o the_o soul_n may_v have_v continuance_n of_o itself_o as_o whereof_o he_o utter_v these_o word_n soul_n namely_o that_o the_o soul_n come_v from_o without_o and_o not_o of_o the_o seed_n of_o man_n as_o the_o body_n do_v and_o that_o the_o soul_n be_v the_o only_a part_n in_o we_o that_o be_v divine_a now_o to_o be_v divine_a and_o to_o be_v human_a to_o be_v of_o seed_n and_o to_o be_v from_o without_o that_o be_v to_o say_v from_o god_n be_v thing_n flat_o contrary_a whereof_o the_o one_o sort_n be_v subject_a to_o corruption_n moral_n and_o the_o other_o not_o in_o the_o ten_o book_n of_o his_o moral_n he_o acknowledge_v two_o sort_n of_o life_n in_o man_n the_o one_o as_o in_o respect_n that_o he_o be_v compose_v of_o body_n and_o soul_n the_o other_o as_o in_o respect_n of_o mind_n only_o the_o one_o occupy_v in_o the_o power_n which_o be_v call_v human_a and_o bodily_a which_o be_v also_o accompany_v with_o a_o felicity_n contemplation_n be_v better_a than_o the_o other_o and_o the_o felicity_n thereto_o belong_v be_v peculiar_o describe_v by_o he_o in_o his_o book_n of_o heaven_n above_o time_n as_o which_o consist_v in_o the_o frank_a and_o free_a work_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o in_o behold_v the_o sovereign_a god_n and_o in_o good_a sooth_n moral_n fulwell_o do_v michael_n of_o ephesus_n upon_o this_o say_n of_o his_o conclude_v that_o the_o soul_n be_v immortal_a and_o so_o must_v all_o his_o moral_n also_o needs_o do_v consider_v that_o to_o live_v well_o whether_o it_o be_v to_o a_o man_n self_n or_o towards_o other_o man_n be_v else_o a_o vain_a thing_n and_o to_o no_o purpose_n but_o to_o vex_v our_o mind_n in_o this_o life_n in_o his_o book_n of_o the_o soul_n he_o not_o only_o separate_v the_o body_n from_o the_o soul_n but_o also_o put_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o soul_n itself_o and_o the_o mind_n termine_v the_o soul_n the_o inworking_a of_o the_o body_n soul_n and_o of_o the_o bodily_a instrument_n and_o the_o mind_n that_o reasonable_a substance_n which_o be_v in_o we_o whereof_o the_o do_n have_v no_o fellowship_n with_o the_o do_n of_o the_o body_n and_o whereof_o the_o soul_n be_v as_o plato_n say_v but_o the_o garment_n this_o mind_n say_v he_o may_v be_v sever_v from_o the_o body_n it_o be_v not_o in_o any_o wise_a mingle_v with_o it_o it_o be_v of_o such_o substance_n as_o can_v be_v hurt_v or_o wrought_v upon_o it_o have_v be_v and_o continuance_n actual_o and_o of_o itself_o and_o even_o when_o it_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o body_n than_o be_v it_o immortal_a and_o everlasting_a to_o be_v short_a it_o have_v not_o any_o thing_n like_o unto_o the_o body_n for_o it_o be_v not_o any_o of_o all_o those_o thing_n which_o have_v be_v afore_o it_o understand_v they_o and_o therefore_o which_o of_o all_o bodily_a thing_n can_v it_o be_v and_o in_o another_o place_n he_o say_v thus_o as_o concerning_o the_o mind_n and_o the_o contemplative_a power_n it_o be_v not_o yet_o sufficient_o apparent_a what_o it_o be_v nevertheless_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v another_o kind_n of_o soul_n and_o it_o be_v that_o only_o which_o can_v be_v separate_v from_o the_o corruptible_a as_o the_o which_o be_v ayeverlasting_a to_o be_v short_a when_o as_o he_o put_v this_o question_n whether_o a_o natural_a philosopher_n be_v to_o dispute_v of_o all_o manner_n of_o soul_n or_o but_o only_o of_o that_o soul_n which_o be_v immortal_a it_o follow_v that_o he_o grant_v that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o one_o and_o again_o when_o as_o he_o make_v this_o argument_n look_v what_o god_n be_v everlasting_o that_o be_v we_o in_o possibility_n according_a to_o our_o measure_n but_o he_o be_v everlasting_o separate_v from_o bodily_a thing_n therefore_o the_o time_n will_v come_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v so_o too_o he_o take_v it_o that_o there_o be_v a_o image_n of_o god_n in_o we_o yea_o even_o of_o the_o divine_a nature_n which_o have_v continuance_n of_o itself_o very_o well_o and_o right_o therefore_o do_v simplicius_n gather_v thereof_o the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n state_n for_o it_o depend_v upon_o this_o separation_n and_o upon_o continuance_n of_o be_v of_o itself_o beside_o this_o he_o say_v also_o that_o hunt_v of_o beast_n be_v grant_v to_o man_n by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n because_o that_o thereby_o man_n challenge_v nothing_o but_o that_o which_o natural_o be_v his_o own_o but_o what_o right_o i_o pray_v you_o if_o there_o be_v no_o more_o in_o himself_o than_o in_o they_o and_o what_o be_v there_o more_o in_o he_o than_o in_o they_o if_o they_o have_v a_o soul_n equal_a unto_o he_o hereunto_o make_v all_o his_o commendation_n of_o godliness_n of_o religion_n of_o blessedness_n and_o of_o contemplation_n for_o to_o what_o end_n serve_v all_o these_o which_o do_v but_o cumber_v we_o here_o below_o therefore_o sure_o it_o be_v to_o be_v conclude_v that_o as_o he_o speak_v doubtful_o in_o some_o one_o place_n so_o he_o both_o term_v and_o also_o teach_v to_o speak_v better_a in_o many_o other_o place_n as_o appear_v by_o his_o disciple_n theophrastus_n who_o speak_v yet_o more_o evident_o thereof_o than_o he_o the_o latin_n as_o i_o have_v say_v before_o fall_v to_o philosophy_n somewhat_o late_a than_o the_o greek_n writer_n and_o as_o touch_v their_o common_a opinion_n the_o exercise_n of_o superstition_n that_o be_v among_o they_o the_o manner_n of_o speech_n which_o we_o mark_v in_o their_o history_n their_o contempt_n of_o death_n and_o their_o hope_n of_o another_o life_n can_v give_v ne_fw-fr sufficient_a warrant_n thereof_o cicero_n speak_v unto_o we_o in_o these_o word_n the_o original_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o mind_n comfort_n can_v be_v find_v in_o this_o low_a earth_n for_o there_o be_v not_o any_o mixture_n in_o they_o or_o any_o compound_v that_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v breed_v or_o make_v of_o the_o earth_n neither_o be_v there_o any_o mind_n thing_n past_a to_o foresee_v thing_n to_o come_v and_o to_o consider_v thing_n present_a which_o be_v matter_n altogether_o divine_a and_o his_o conclusion_n be_v that_o therefore_o they_o be_v derive_v from_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v not_o breed_v or_o beget_v of_o man_n but_o create_v of_o god_n not_o bodily_a but_o unbodily_a whereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o the_o soul_n can_v be_v corrupt_v by_o these_o transitory_a thing_n law_n the_o same_o cicero_n in_o another_o place_n say_v that_o between_o god_n and_o man_n there_o be_v a_o kindred_n of_o reason_n as_o there_o be_v between_o man_n and_o man_n a_o kindred_n of_o blood_n that_o the_o fellowship_n between_o man_n and_o man_n come_v of_o the_o mortal_a body_n but_o the_o fellowship_n between_o god_n and_o man_n come_v of_o god_n himself_o who_o create_v the_o soul_n in_o we_o by_o reason_n whereof_o say_v he_o we_o may_v say_v we_o have_v alliance_n with_o the_o heavenly_a sort_n as_o folk_n that_o be_v descend_v of_o the_o same_o race_n and_o root_n whereof_o that_o we_o may_v ever_o more_o be_v mindful_a we_o must_v look_v up_o to_o heaven_n as_o to_o the_o place_n of_o our_o birth_n whether_o we_o must_v one_o day_n return_v and_o therefore_o yet_o once_o again_o he_o conclude_v thus_o of_o himself_o dream_n think_v not_o say_v he_o that_o thou_o thyself_o be_v mortal_a it_o be_v but_o thy_o body_n that_o be_v so_o for_o thou_o be_v not_o that_o which_o this_o outward_a shape_n pretend_v to_o be_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n be_v the_o man_n indeed_o and_o not_o this_o lump_n which_o may_v be_v point_v at_o with_o one_o finger_n assure_v thyself_o therefore_o that_o thou_o be_v a_o god_n for_o needs_o must_v that_o be_v a_o god_n which_o live_v perceive_v remember_v foresee_v and_o final_o rain_v in_o thy_o body_n as_o the_o great_a god_n the_o maker_n of_o all_o thing_n do_v in_o the_o universal_a world_n for_o as_o the_o eternal_a god_n rule_v and_o move_v this_o transitory_a world_n so_o do_v
