observe_v a_o further_a continual_a care_n necessary_a for_o all_o christian_n and_o that_o be_v that_o they_o may_v abound_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o not_o in_o knowledge_n only_o of_o god_n will_v out_o of_o his_o word_n but_o in_o sound_a judgement_n also_o through_o a_o feel_a experience_n in_o themselves_o of_o such_o spiritual_a thing_n as_o they_o know_v out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o what_o they_o know_v out_o of_o the_o word_n they_o may_v feel_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o by_o experience_n in_o themselves_o this_o care_n our_o apostle_n show_v that_o he_o have_v where_o he_o say_v that_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o esteem_v be_v to_o know_v christ_n 3.10_o phil._n 3.10_o and_o the_o virtue_n of_o his_o resurrection_n he_o know_v the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n his_o resurrection_n and_o he_o know_v this_o to_o be_v the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n his_o resurrection_n that_o by_o it_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n rise_v from_o the_o death_n of_o sin_n unto_o the_o life_n of_o righteousness_n but_o his_o desire_n far_a be_v that_o he_o may_v feel_v in_o himself_o and_o know_v by_o his_o own_o experience_n the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n his_o resurrection_n by_o the_o death_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o
my_o brethren_n say_v the_o apostle_n be_v not_o child_n in_o understanding_n but_o as_o concern_v maliciousness_n be_v child_n but_o in_o understanding_n be_v of_o a_o ripe_a age_n the_o apostle_n may_v not_o be_v so_o with_o you_o you_o be_v child_n sometime_o and_o care_v not_o for_o understanding_n and_o you_o be_v child_n sometime_o and_o but_o young_a in_o understanding_n and_o knowledge_n but_o you_o may_v not_o be_v so_o still_o but_o you_o must_v grow_v to_o be_v of_o a_o ripe_a age_n in_o understanding_n you_o must_v increase_v in_o knowledge_n as_o in_o year_n you_o do_v increase_v and_o lest_o they_o shall_v say_v that_o christ_n will_v have_v they_o to_o be_v like_a unto_o little_a child_n he_o prevent_v that_o 3._o mat._n 18_o 3._o and_o tell_v they_o that_o he_o will_v our_o time_n spend_v in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n do_v require_v of_o we_o so_o must_v our_o profit_v be_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o will_n out_o of_o his_o word_n yea_o look_v into_o our_o own_o practice_n and_o we_o shall_v find_v our_o own_o judgement_n to_o be_v such_o if_o we_o have_v child_n and_o set_v they_o to_o their_o book_n we_o look_v that_o according_a to_o their_o time_n spend_v thereat_o their_o profit_v shall_v be_v and_o that_o they_o shall_v increase_v in_o knowledge_n and_o learning_n as_o they_o grow_v in_o year_n and_o in_o time_n spend_v at_o their_o book_n and_o if_o they_o do_v not_o so_o profit_n we_o take_v they_o from_o the_o school_n and_o set_v they_o to_o some_o other_o thing_n so_o that_o by_o our_o own_o judgement_n so_o many_o of_o we_o as_o be_v teach_v in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n we_o shall_v increase_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o as_o we_o spend_v more_o and_o more_o time_n in_o the_o school_n of_o christ_n so_o shall_v we_o abound_v more_o and_o more_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o if_o we_o do_v not_o so_o by_o our_o own_o judgement_n we_o be_v to_o be_v exclude_v as_o non_fw-la be_v it_o not_o our_o saviour_n rule_n that_o we_o shall_v judge_v of_o the_o tree_n by_o the_o fruit_n for_o that_o a_o good_a tree_n bring_v not_o forth_o evil_a fruit_n 7.18_o mat._n 7.18_o nor_o a_o ill_a tree_n good_a fruit_n if_o it_o bear_v grape_n will_v any_o man_n judge_v it_o to_o be_v a_o thorn_n if_o it_o bring_v forth_o fig_n will_v any_o man_n judge_v it_o to_o be_v a_o thistle_n nay_o by_o the_o fruit_n the_o tree_n be_v know_v what_o it_o be_v and_o if_o the_o fruit_n be_v good_a it_o may_v thereby_o be_v know_v that_o the_o tree_n be_v good_a right_o so_o if_o we_o have_v our_o fruit_n in_o righteousness_n and_o holiness_n it_o may_v thereby_o be_v know_v that_o we_o be_v the_o branch_n of_o the_o true_a vine_n christ_n jesus_n whether_o then_o we_o look_v unto_o the_o example_n of_o the_o apostle_n or_o unto_o the_o rule_n of_o charity_n which_o the_o apostle_n follow_v or_o unto_o that_o rule_n of_o christ_n to_o discern_v of_o the_o tree_n by_o the_o fruit_n we_o see_v that_o the_o child_n of_o god_n may_v not_o only_o persuade_v themselves_o of_o their_o own_o salvation_n in_o christ_n jesus_n but_o further_a also_o may_v certain_o judge_v of_o the_o salvation_n of_o their_o godly_a brethren_n now_o see_v viri_fw-la fratres_fw-la man_n &_o brethren_n the_o great_a necessity_n that_o there_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v thus_o persuade_v one_o of_o another_o even_o so_o great_a as_o that_o without_o it_o the_o bond_n of_o peace_n love_n and_o christianity_n can_v be_v maintain_v for_o how_o can_v we_o love_v they_o of_o who_o we_o have_v his_o own_o sake_n or_o for_o the_o supply_n of_o his_o want_n by_o their_o liberality_n so_o neither_o this_o his_o commendation_n of_o their_o liberality_n from_o the_o first_o unto_o the_o last_o be_v for_o his_o own_o sake_n or_o that_o he_o desire_v a_o new_a gift_n of_o they_o but_o both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o be_v for_o their_o sake_n and_o that_o in_o both_o he_o regard_v the_o fruit_n which_o may_v further_o their_o reckon_n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o general_a purpose_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o these_o word_n now_o come_v we_o unto_o a_o little_a more_o particular_a examination_n of_o they_o and_o you_o by_o this_o that_o he_o say_v you_o also_o etc._n etc._n he_o mean_v that_o not_o only_o he_o and_o the_o other_o church_n of_o macedonia_n but_o they_o also_o know_v this_o that_o he_o now_o speak_v what_o namely_o that_o in_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o be_v at_o my_o first_o come_v into_o macedonia_n and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n unto_o you_o for_o he_o speak_v not_o simple_o of_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o of_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o that_o country_n of_o macedonia_n whereof_o philippi_n have_v bestow_v on_o the_o other_o church_n spiritual_a thing_n he_o have_v not_o as_o have_v be_v meet_a receive_v of_o they_o again_o temporal_a thing_n the_o phrase_n of_o speech_n here_o use_v be_v borrow_v from_o merchant_n or_o other_o which_o have_v their_o book_n wherein_o they_o set_v down_o their_o laying_n out_o and_o their_o receiving_n in_o that_o when_o they_o make_v their_o count_n there_o may_v be_v a_o proportion_n in_o those_o thing_n so_o he_o mean_v that_o between_o those_o other_o church_n of_o macedonia_n and_o he_o there_o shall_v have_v be_v this_o proportion_n that_o as_o he_o have_v minister_v unto_o they_o spiritual_a thing_n so_o they_o shall_v have_v minister_v unto_o he_o of_o their_o temporal_a thing_n three_o in_o that_o he_o say_v but_o you_o only_o he_o commend_v they_o above_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o church_n of_o macedonia_n in_o the_o next_o verse_n when_o he_o say_v for_o when_o i_o be_v in_o thessalonica_n he_o add_v this_o far_a to_o the_o commendation_n of_o the_o philippian_n for_o their_o liberality_n that_o beside_o their_o liberality_n at_o his_o departure_n from_o they_o when_o he_o be_v in_o thessalonica_n the_o metrapolitan_a thence_o redound_v unto_o they_o from_o god_n who_o will_v recompense_v it_o in_o the_o heaven_n into_o their_o bosom_n and_o accept_v it_o in_o mercy_n as_o some_o acquittance_n of_o their_o debt_n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o these_o word_n and_o now_o that_o we_o understand_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o these_o word_n let_v we_o see_v what_o profitable_a note_n we_o may_v gather_v hence_o for_o our_o far_a use_n and_o you_o philippian_n in_o that_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o when_o he_o depart_v from_o macedonia_n none_o of_o the_o other_o church_n of_o macedonia_n but_o the_o philippian_n only_o communicate_v to_o his_o necessity_n hence_o it_o may_v seem_v may_v be_v observe_v a_o example_n of_o great_a ingratitude_n in_o those_o church_n that_o withhold_v their_o temporal_a thing_n from_o the_o apostle_n when_o he_o have_v minister_v unto_o they_o spiritual_a thing_n but_o i_o dare_v not_o altogether_o so_o judge_v they_o because_o of_o that_o notable_a testimony_n which_o our_o apostle_n give_v unto_o they_o in_o the_o latter_a to_o the_o corinthian_n where_o he_o propose_v their_o example_n unto_o the_o corinthian_n 8.1.2.3.4_o 2._o cor._n 8.1.2.3.4_o thereby_o to_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o the_o relief_n of_o the_o poor_a saint_n and_o testify_v that_o in_o their_o most_o extreme_a poverty_n they_o be_v rich_o liberal_a that_o beyond_o their_o power_n they_o be_v willing_a and_o that_o they_o even_o press_v the_o apostle_n to_o receive_v their_o relief_n towards_o the_o poor_a saint_n a_o rare_a example_n of_o great_a piety_n and_o very_o tender_a compassion_n so_o that_o i_o impute_v their_o not_o communicate_v unto_o the_o apostle_n necessity_n at_o this_o time_n rather_o unto_o forgetfulness_n and_o some_o want_n of_o care_n for_o this_o time_n which_o be_v sometime_o the_o fault_n of_o the_o philippian_n as_o we_o hear_v before_o then_o unto_o ungratefulness_n or_o any_o such_o notorious_a fault_n the_o apostle_n purpose_v i_o take_v rather_o to_o be_v to_o commend_v the_o philippian_n then_o deep_o to_o censure_v the_o other_o church_n in_o this_o than_o that_o he_o say_v that_o when_o he_o depart_v from_o macedonia_n no_o church_n etc._n etc._n i_o note_v the_o thing_n for_o which_o he_o commend_v the_o philippian_n above_o the_o other_o church_n of_o macedonia_n which_o be_v the_o performance_n of_o that_o christian_a duty_n towards_o he_o to_o minister_v unto_o he_o temporal_a thing_n when_o he_o have_v bestow_v on_o they_o spiritual_a thing_n whence_o i_o observe_v this_o lesson_n for_o we_o that_o where_o spiritual_a thing_n be_v bestow_v upon_o we_o there_o we_o shall_v minister_v temporal_a thing_n where_o the_o minister_n teach_v we_o with_o the_o word_n there_o we_o shall_v make_v allowance_n of_o maintenance_n unto_o he_o which_o point_n the_o apostle_n prove_v at_o large_a in_o the_o former_a to_o the_o corinthian_n and_o by_o
