they_o with_o all_o our_o might_n for_o as_o the_o proverb_n be_v he_o that_o huntetb_v after_o two_o hare_n at_o once_o shall_v catch_v neither_o and_o as_o nature_n intend_v not_o many_o thing_n at_o once_o so_o neither_o do_v grace_n because_o the_o virtue_n and_o power_n either_o of_o body_n or_o mind_n be_v distract_v by_o diverse_a object_n do_v like_o the_o river_n divide_v into_o many_o stream_n but_o weak_o perform_v their_o function_n and_o operation_n and_o be_v unite_v be_v much_o more_o strong_a and_o active_a and_o not_o unlike_a to_o the_o former_a be_v that_o other_o deceit_n whereby_o it_o move_v we_o to_o neglect_v the_o do_n of_o some_o present_a good_a upon_o the_o pretence_n of_o do_v some_o other_o and_o great_a good_a afterward_o whereby_o it_o not_o only_o defeat_v our_o present_a good_a purpose_n but_o common_o do_v also_o wirhdraw_v we_o from_o do_v that_o future_a good_a for_o the_o performance_n whereof_o the_o other_o be_v neglect_v and_o thus_o when_o we_o be_v purpose_v to_o pray_v unto_o god_n it_o persuade_v we_o to_o delay_n under_o this_o colour_n that_o we_o may_v afterward_o perform_v this_o duty_n more_o effectual_o when_o we_o be_v not_o so_o dull_a and_o heavy_a so_o trouble_v with_o distraction_n nor_o so_o assault_v with_o temptation_n and_o thus_o general_o it_o diswade_v we_o from_o perform_v any_o service_n unto_o god_n pretend_v that_o we_o may_v have_v afterward_o better_a mean_n and_o fit_a opportunity_n and_o so_o may_v do_v it_o in_o such_o manner_n as_o may_v be_v more_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n and_o thus_o also_o it_o move_v we_o to_o neglect_v the_o work_n of_o mercy_n all_o our_o life_n long_o pretend_v that_o we_o may_v do_v they_o much_o more_o ample_o and_o liberal_o by_o our_o last_o will_n which_o take_v not_o effect_v till_o after_o death_n for_o the_o defeat_n of_o which_o policy_n let_v we_o know_v that_o we_o can_v perform_v service_n unto_o god_n till_o he_o call_v and_o enable_v we_o by_o his_o spirit_n thereunto_o and_o that_o we_o be_v call_v when_o the_o lord_n offer_v mean_n and_o opportunity_n which_o if_o we_o neglect_v we_o know_v not_o whether_o he_o will_v afterward_o honour_v we_o so_o much_o as_o to_o appoint_v we_o to_o these_o holy_a service_n which_o we_o have_v careless_o &_o causeless_o omit_v let_v we_o remember_v that_o the_o time_n present_a be_v we_o &_o therefore_o at_o our_o pleasure_n to_o be_v use_v for_o all_o good_a purpose_n but_o the_o time_n to_o come_v be_v out_o of_o our_o reach_n and_o we_o know_v not_o whether_o we_o shall_v catch_v hold_n of_o it_o yea_o or_o no._n that_o it_o be_v better_a to_o do_v a_o certain_a good_a though_o not_o so_o great_a and_o excellent_a then_o to_o neglect_v it_o in_o hope_n of_o do_v that_o which_o be_v uncertain_a though_o in_o it_o own_o nature_n more_o eminent_a and_o commendable_a final_o consider_v that_o if_o we_o use_v well_o the_o time_n present_a for_o do_v god_n that_o service_n which_o we_o be_v able_a he_o will_v with_o the_o enlarge_n of_o our_o desire_n enlarge_v also_o our_o mean_n and_o opportunity_n of_o do_v great_a good_a in_o the_o time_n to_o come_v chap._n xvii_o of_o he_o policy_n which_o the_o flesh_n use_v to_o inturrupt_v we_o in_o the_o do_n of_o good_a duty_n and_o to_o alienate_v our_o heart_n from_o they_o duty_n §_o sect._n 1._o how_o the_o flesh_n interrose_v when_o we_o be_v exercise_v in_o do_v good_a duty_n and_o thus_o the_o flesh_n hinder_v we_o from_o the_o performance_n of_o all_o good_a duty_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o it_o deal_v also_o no_o less_o deceitful_o and_o that_o either_o to_o inturrupt_v and_o distract_v we_o that_o we_o may_v do_v they_o only_o formal_o and_o to_o no_o purpose_n or_o else_o so_o to_o corrupt_v and_o poison_v our_o best_a grace_n and_o most_o virtuous_a action_n that_o they_o may_v become_v unprofitable_a yea_o hurtful_a unto_o us._n for_o the_o former_a when_o we_o endeavour_v to_o seek_v the_o lord_n in_o his_o holy_a ordinance_n and_o set_v ourselves_o to_o perform_v the_o pious_a duty_n of_o his_o service_n if_o it_o can_v by_o the_o former_a deceit_n whole_o hinder_v we_o from_o do_v of_o they_o it_o will_v like_o david_n false_a friend_n accompany_v we_o to_o the_o house_n of_o god_n as_o though_o it_o likewise_o be_v delight_v in_o these_o holy_a exercise_n but_o to_o no_o other_o end_n but_o that_o it_o may_v frustrate_v and_o defeat_v our_o holy_a desire_n for_o when_o we_o labour_v to_o hear_v god_n word_n to_o call_v upon_o his_o name_n or_o singe_v his_o praise_n this_o sin_n that_o hang_v on_o we_o and_o press_v we_o down_o do_v either_o make_v we_o dull_a and_o drowsy_a lumpish_a and_o heavy_a so_o that_o we_o can_v attend_v these_o holy_a exercise_n with_o any_o cheerfulness_n and_o alacrity_n of_o spirit_n but_o offer_v unto_o god_n dead_a and_o carrion-like_a sacrifice_n which_o have_v no_o heart_n nor_o life_n in_o they_o be_v loathsome_a unto_o
