know_v nor_o all_o the_o man_n in_o world_n when_o i_o retire_v myself_o any_o day_n and_o shut_v myself_o up_o in_o my_o chamber_n whether_o i_o pray_v or_o meditate_v or_o perform_v any_o other_o solitary_a worship_n to_o god_n or_o not_o unless_o i_o tell_v they_o afterward_o or_o speak_v so_o loud_o as_o that_o they_o overhear_v i_o which_o i_o be_o not_o bind_v to_o do_v or_o rather_o be_o bind_v not_o to_o do_v it_o be_v altogether_o vain_a to_o say_v no_o more_o to_o determine_v and_o command_v that_o which_o no_o account_n can_v be_v take_v of_o by_o those_o that_o command_v it_o or_o by_o any_o man_n else_o whether_o it_o be_v obey_v or_o not_o 2._o but_o further_a secret_a duty_n and_o so_o time_n to_o be_v necessary_o employ_v in_o they_o be_v immediate_o duty_n of_o conscience_n even_o the_o most_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a that_o can_v be_v now_o no_o authority_n of_o man_n of_o the_o church_n or_o any_o other_o reach_v immediate_o to_o the_o conscience_n and_o the_o inward_a and_o spiritual_a part_n of_o duty_n but_o only_o the_o authority_n of_o god_n alone_o here_o again_o the_o church_n or_o any_o superior_a may_v give_v counsel_n or_o declare_v the_o will_n of_o god_n about_o such_o duty_n or_o such_o time_n to_o be_v so_o employ_v but_o can_v command_v or_o determine_v it_o whereas_o we_o be_v speak_v of_o a_o time_n that_o must_v be_v determine_v of_o which_o therefore_o the_o church_n have_v no_o authority_n if_o it_o be_v object_v that_o the_o christian_a magistrate_n answer_v xxix_o a_o exception_n answer_v or_o the_o church_n have_v authority_n to_o appoint_v a_o public_a day_n of_o fast_v and_o humiliation_n and_o this_o to_o be_v spend_v in_o religious_a duty_n as_o well_o private_a as_o public_a till_o the_o end_n of_o the_o day_n and_o if_o so_o why_o not_o for_o the_o ordinary_a chief_a solemn_a time_n we_o answer_v in_o a_o word_n sol._n sol._n that_o the_o continuance_n of_o a_o public_a fast_o be_v before_o hand_n determine_v by_o god_n in_o scripture_n

since_o the_o service_n of_o god_n be_v our_o perfect_a freedom_n if_o our_o church_n say_v true_a in_o her_o prayer_n and_o be_v not_o to_o give_v god_n attendance_n constant_o in_o public_a of_o these_o contradiction_n whereas_o in_o our_o way_n all_o be_v plain_a in_o three_o word_n god_n determine_v the_o time_n to_o all_o all_z even_o servant_n and_o inferior_n be_v bind_v to_o observe_v it_o to_o his_o honour_n and_o the_o good_a of_o their_o soul_n &_o so_o to_o be_v willing_a and_o careful_a of_o it_o and_o they_o be_v free_a to_o observe_v it_o be_v willing_a notwithstanding_o any_o opposition_n of_o man_n master_n parent_n or_o other_o and_o though_o they_o may_v and_o must_v regard_v god_n reservation_n and_o so_o stay_v at_o home_n to_o tend_v a_o sick_a person_n and_o do_v any_o thing_n which_o be_v true_o necessary_a yet_o not_o upon_o slight_a pretence_n or_o trifle_a occasion_n and_o when_o they_o be_v at_o home_n they_o be_v to_o redeem_v all_o time_n possible_a to_o serve_v god_n and_o look_v after_o their_o soul_n by_o themselves_o and_o if_o for_o this_o they_o incur_v their_o superior_n displeasure_n they_o must_v trust_v god_n in_o that_o as_o well_o as_o if_o they_o will_v urge_v they_o to_o lie_v or_o do_v any_o other_o wickedness_n reason_n xxxiii_o prove_v by_o reason_n 2._o another_o proof_n of_o our_o antecedent_n against_o the_o church_n authority_n even_o for_o the_o public_a worship_n in_o a_o word_n according_a to_o what_o have_v be_v touch●_n in_o a_o former_a argument_n be_v that_o if_o the_o church_n have_v authority_n to_o command_v all_o its_o member_n to_o observe_v constant_o that_o time_n in_o public_a worship_n which_o it_o determine_v to_o they_o it_o may_v command_v they_o 2_o 3_o 4_o 5._o day_n in_o a_o week_n and_o 5._o or_o 6._o or_o 8._o hour_n of_o each_o of_o those_o day_n both_o master_n and_o servant_n inferior_n and_o superior_n and_o call_v they_o from_o their_o work_n to_o public_a worship_n so_o often_o and_o so_o long_o but_o this_o must_v not_o be_v therefore_o the_o church_n have_v no_o such_o authority_n even_o for_o the_o public_a worship_n and_o the_o time_n for_o it_o a_o six_o argument_n be_v this_o determination_n xxxiiii_o argument_n six_o the_o church_n can_v make_v a_o perpetual_a determination_n if_o the_o church_n have_v authority_n to_o make_v this_o determination_n of_o the_o chief_a solemn_a time_n necessary_a and_o sufficient_a to_o its_o member_n for_o religion_n then_o it_o have_v authority_n to_o make_v a_o perpetual_a determination_n but_o the_o church_n have_v no_o authority_n to_o make_v a_o perpetual_a determination_n ergo_fw-la the_o church_n have_v not_o authority_n to_o make_v this_o determination_n the_o consequence_n may_v be_v thus_o confirm_v that_o proportion_n of_o time_n which_o be_v both_o necessary_a for_o religion_n &_o sufficient_a for_o religion_n for_o the_o chief_a time_n of_o worship_n be_v in_o reference_n to_o man_n not_o to_o say_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o perpetual_a for_o nothing_o can_v be_v take_v from_o that_o which_o be_v necessary_a nor_o add_v by_o man_n authority_n to_o that_o which_o be_v sufficient_a so_o that_o if_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o church_n have_v make_v the_o time_n necessary_a and_o sufficient_a to_o religion_n it_o have_v make_v it_o withal_o perpetual_a and_o unalterable_a the_o antecedent_n that_o the_o church_n can_v make_v a_o determination_n perpetual_a be_v partly_o prove_v by_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o adversary_n in_o this_o case_n in_o hand_n for_o they_o dispute_v and_o argue_v divers_a of_o they_o for_o the_o church_n authority_n at_o this_o day_n to_o alter_v and_o change_v the_o time_n the_o lord_n day_n not_o only_o to_o some_o other_o day_n of_o the_o week_n but_o to_o some_o other_o number_n great_a or_o small_a partly_o by_o the_o general_a confession_n of_o all_o orthodox_n divine_v even_o the_o heretical_a papist_n also_o that_o all_o institution_n &_o determination_n &_o law●_n of_o man_n even_o of_o the_o church_n universal_a be_v in_o their_o own_n not_o ●e_v alterable_a and_o at_o least_o the_o church_n universal_a may_v alter_v they_o in_o a_o general_a council_n and_o so_o that_o it_o belong_v to_o god_n only_o to_o make_v law_n perpetual_a and_o unchangeable_a and_o therefore_o say_v we_o it_o belong_v only_o to_o he_o to_o make_v this_o determination_n of_o the_o necessary_a and_o sufficient_a chief_a solemn_a time_n for_o all_o man_n and_o particular_o for_o all_o the_o member_n of_o the_o church_n which_o do_v it_o be_v unquestionable_o in_o reference_n to_o man_n seven_o xxxiv_o argument_n seven_o perpetual_a and_o unalterable_a a_o seven_o argument_n thu●_n proceed_v if_o god_n consequence_n be_v not_o to_o be_v deny_v 1._o because_o our_o adversary_n do_v so_o much_o and_o so_o oft_o urge_v the_o notion_n of_o christian_a liberty_n to_o prove_v christian_n free_v from_o all_o god_n former_a determination_n of_o time_n even_o that_o of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o for_o a_o weekly_a sabbath_n in_o the_o four_o commandment_n and_o to_o prove_v that_o the_o church_n be_v to_o determine_v the_o necessary_a and_o sufficient_a time_n now_o 2._o indeed_o there_o can_v be_v no_o other_o reason_n imagine_v why_o god_n shall_v set_v his_o christian_a church_n to_o make_v this_o determination_n or_o make_v void_a all_o his_o own_o former_a determination_n but_o in_o favour_n to_o his_o people_n now_o for_o a_o spiritual_a privilege_n and_o christian_a liberty_n the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v a_o time_n of_o spiritual_a freedom_n above_o the_o time_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n the_o antecedent_n may_v be_v verify_v several_a way_n 1._o by_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o adversary_n who_o say_v sometime_o and_o offer_v at_o some_o reason_n for_o it_o that_o the_o christian_a church_n may_v appoint_v and_o determine_v more_o and_o often_o day_n than_o the_o jew_n have_v determine_v to_o they_o by_o god_n himself_o and_o if_o it_o be_v absolute_o leave_v to_o the_o church_n to_o determine_v they_o may_v determine_v as_o many_o as_o they_o will_v and_o so_o there_o will_v be_v less_o liberty_n in_o that_o sense_n they_o plead_v for_o it_o less_o freedom_n for_o worldly_a occasion_n work_n and_o sport_n than_o the_o jew_n have_v or_o then_o we_o urge_v from_o the_o four_o commandment_n for_o one_o whole_a day_n in_o seven_o for_o two_o day_n in_o a_o week_n or_o even_o twenty_o seven_o holy_a day_n in_o a_o year_n beside_o the_o lord_n day_n weekly_o which_o be_v in_o our_o church_n if_o they_o must_v be_v observe_v at_o least_o by_o abstain_v from_o all_o work_n as_o some_o urge_v in_o their_o book_n and_o to_o be_v sure_a the_o ecclesiastical_a court_n do_v urge_v in_o practice_n punish_v all_o those_o that_o they_o can_v prove_v do_v work_n on_o any_o part_n even_o of_o a_o holy_a day_n this_o we_o say_v be_v and_o will_v be_v less_o freedom_n than_o the_o jew_n have_v or_o then_o we_o will_v have_v if_o the_o lord_n day_n be_v whole_o observe_v and_o no_o other_o day_n strict_o beside_o but_o they_o may_v
