i_o must_v add_v here_o that_o though_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d be_v not_o well_o translate_v the_o preacher_n yet_o i_o have_v retain_v ecclesiastes_n as_o the_o name_n of_o this_o book_n because_o it_o be_v best_o know_v by_o it_o 3._o i_o here_o suppose_v this_o title_n to_o be_v prefix_v not_o by_o solomon_n himself_o but_o by_o ezra_n and_o his_o assistant_n who_o not_o only_o collect_v the_o history_n of_o the_o patriarchal_a and_o jewish_a church_n and_o methodise_v the_o prophecy_n and_o other_o holy_a write_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n but_o also_o give_v the_o book_n which_o constitute_v that_o canon_n of_o scripture_n their_o several_a title_n so_o that_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o it_o it_o have_v be_v say_v these_o be_v word_n which_o we_o ezra_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o great_a synagogue_n have_v find_v to_o be_v koheleth_n the_o son_n of_o david_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o have_v put_v they_o into_o the_o holy_a canon_n for_o this_o reason_n it_o come_v from_o another_o and_o not_o from_o solomon_n own_o hand_n i_o have_v represent_v it_o to_o his_o praise_n and_o advantage_n 4._o these_o word_n king_n in_o jerusalem_n in_o strictness_n perhaps_o aught_o to_o be_v refer_v to_o koheleth_n or_o solomon_n yet_o they_o may_v too_o be_v allow_v to_o relate_v to_o the_o next_o precede_v word_n i._n e._n david_n for_o these_o reason_n first_o because_o david_n be_v the_o first_o that_o entire_o conquer_a jerusalem_n and_o make_v it_o the_o seat_n of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o therefore_o seem_v most_o proper_o to_o claim_v this_o title_n second_o because_o solomon_n be_v bear_v to_o davidâ_n â_z when_o he_o be_v king_n in_o jerusalem_n and_o therefore_o this_o may_v be_v add_v to_o distinguish_v he_o from_o those_o son_n that_o be_v bear_v to_o david_n when_o he_o be_v only_o king_n in_o hebron_n thiraly_n because_o whatever_o be_v to_o be_v say_v of_o solomon_n as_o king_n in_o jerusalem_n may_v be_v more_o pertinent_o bring_v in_o at_o v_o 12._o of_o this_o chapter_n and_o therefore_o since_o david_n memory_n may_v be_v a_o little_a more_o emphatical_o celebrate_v here_o without_o wrong_n to_o his_o son_n it_o can_v be_v no_o great_a fault_n to_o do_v it_o 5._o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d seem_v sometime_o to_o imply_v a_o notion_n of_o lie_v or_o deceitfulness_n and_o so_o it_o be_v use_v as_o synonomous_a to_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d and_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d a_o lie_n as_o ps._n 62._o 9_o and_o prov._n 31._o 30._o sometime_o again_o it_o seem_v to_o import_v want_n either_o of_o solidity_n or_o duration_n that_o be_v something_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o vapour_n thus_o the_o psalmist_n speak_v of_o man_n day_n and_o his_o age_n say_v he_o be_v altogether_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d or_o vanity_n psal._n 39_o 5._o which_o st._n james_n express_v by_o say_v our_o life_n be_v even_o a_o vapour_n that_o appear_v for_o a_o little_a time_n jam._n 4._o 14._o and_o that_o phrase_n ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d in_o prov._n 21._o 6._o be_v a_o vapour_n drive_v to_o and_o fro_o a_o empty_a design_n that_o wicked_a man_n practice_v upon_o one_o another_o and_o so_o also_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d in_o chaldee_n and_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d in_o syriack_n signify_v a_o vapour_n or_o breath_n i_o have_v take_v in_o both_o these_o thought_n which_o together_o perhaps_o give_v the_o full_a signification_n of_o the_o word_n and_o be_v very_o proper_a here_o for_o worldly_a thing_n be_v deceitful_a because_o though_o they_o appear_v take_v they_o be_v neither_o substantial_a nor_o durable_a 6._o the_o verb_n from_o whence_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d be_v derive_v in_o those_o conjugation_n in_o which_o it_o be_v use_v in_o the_o bâble_a be_v to_o leave_v or_o be_v lefâ_n and_o thence_o it_o come_v to_o be_v to_o abound_v and_o thence_o again_o it_o rise_v high_a and_o signify_v to_o excel_v in_o general_n etc._n etc._n and_o from_o any_o of_o these_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d may_v receive_v a_o not_o impertinent_a interpretation_n but_o among_o the_o syrian_n we_o find_v ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d in_o the_o conjugation_n peal_n denote_v to_o gain_v or_o obtain_v as_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d mark_v 8._o 36._o and_o methinks_v this_o let_v we_o the_o most_o direct_o into_o a_o true_a signification_n of_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d which_o the_o english_a version_n turn_v well_o by_o the_o word_n profit_n 7._o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d be_v not_o always_o labour_v in_o a_o illimited_a sense_n but_o very_o often_o only_o labour_v that_o be_v culpable_a so_o it_o be_v use_v twice_o in_o hab._n 1._o for_o v_o 3._o it_o be_v join_v with_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d and_o v_o 13._o it_o be_v what_o god_n can_v look_v upon_o and_o so_o it_o must_v be_v use_v here_o for_o there_o be_v a_o labour_n which_o be_v not_o only_o lawful_a but_o our_o duty_n and_o however_o it_o succeed_v here_o certain_o profitable_a too_o as_o when_o man_n in_o sincerity_n propound_v good_a end_n to_o their_o labour_n the_o manifestation_n of_o god_n glory_n the_o improvement_n of_o their_o own_o soul_n by_o virtue_n and_o knowledge_n or_o the_o obtain_n such_o circumstance_n as_o may_v enable_v they_o to_o serve_v god_n cheerful_o to_o provide_v convenient_o for_o their_o family_n decent_o to_o discharge_v that_o share_n of_o public_a business_n which_o belong_v to_o their_o station_n and_o upon_o occasion_n ready_o to_o relieve_v those_o that_o want_n and_o when_o these_o end_n be_v prosecute_v with_o resignation_n to_o god_n and_o dependence_n upon_o he_o for_o success_n with_o such_o strict_a justice_n as_o shall_v in_o no_o regard_n trespass_n upon_o any_o other_o man_n and_o with_o such_o moderation_n as_o consist_v with_o that_o duty_n we_o owe_v to_o ourselves_o too_o the_o labour_n therefore_o intend_v here_o must_v be_v the_o labour_n of_o they_o that_o propound_v wrong_a end_n the_o humour_v their_o covetous_a inclination_n or_o procure_v a_o opportunity_n to_o gratify_v their_o lust_n or_o luxury_n or_o pride_n or_o levity_n or_o the_o like_a and_o then_o prosecute_v these_o end_n by_o virtue_n of_o their_o own_o strength_n or_o policy_n without_o any_o sense_n of_o god_n or_o his_o providence_n not_o distinguish_v between_o right_n and_o wrong_n nor_o spare_v perhaps_o themselves_o in_o some_o instance_n much_o more_o than_o their_o neighbour_n in_o short_a it_o be_v the_o labour_n of_o one_o that_o be_v mere_o a_o creature_n of_o this_o world_n and_o look_v no_o further_o for_o this_o produce_v no_o true_a profit_n or_o advantage_n 8._o i_o have_v render_v ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d return_n not_o goes_z as_o in_o the_o english_a first_o because_o the_o hebrew_n have_v no_o compound_v verb_n the_o simple_a stand_n for_o the_o compound_v too_o when_o their_o construction_n or_o the_o circumstance_n of_o the_o sentence_n require_v so_o that_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d be_v not_o only_o ivit_fw-la but_o adivit_fw-la abivit_fw-la exivit_fw-la praeivit_fw-la rediit_fw-la etc._n etc._n and_o thus_o it_o signify_v to_o return_v in_o that_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d deut._n 16._o 7._o second_o though_o it_o be_v common_a i_o suppose_v in_o all_o language_n to_o say_v man_n that_o be_v dead_a be_v go_v because_o the_o phrase_n be_v intelligible_a enough_o without_o add_v any_o more_o yet_o in_o truth_n it_o be_v a_o defective_a say_n since_o of_o necessity_n some_o place_n must_v be_v understand_v to_o which_o they_o go_v this_o defect_n we_o can_v better_o fill_v up_o than_o by_o observe_v solomon_n own_a mode_n of_o speak_v ch_z 3._o v._n 20._o where_o he_o say_v all_z go_z unto_o one_o place_n i._n e._n the_o dust_n or_o the_o earth_n now_o as_o he_o say_v there_o since_o all_o be_v of_o the_o dust_n all_o return_n to_o the_o dust_n their_o go_v be_v proper_o a_o return_v three_o without_o this_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n the_o follow_a simile_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o the_o wind_n and_o the_o river_n return_v to_o the_o same_o place_n again_o be_v not_o very_o proper_a 9_o after_o all_o the_o various_a account_n of_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d it_o in_o truth_n signify_v a_o duration_n or_o time_n who_o length_n be_v ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d or_o hide_v from_o we_o of_o which_o we_o know_v either_o not_o the_o beginning_n or_o not_o the_o end_n or_o perhaps_o neither_o thus_o with_o respect_n to_o time_n past_a ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d job_n 22._o 15._o be_v that_o way_n which_o wicked_a man_n have_v tread_v time_n out_o of_o mind_n and_o ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d ãâã_d be_v the_o landmark_n that_o have_v stand_v for_o immemorial_n time_n with_o respect_n to_o future_a time_n many_o of_o the_o
