what_o the_o representer_n offer_v to_o justify_v this_o practice_n of_o the_o present_a church_n of_o rome_n so_o manifest_o repugnant_a to_o scripture_n to_o reason_n and_o to_o the_o ancient_a practice_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n itself_o yea_o of_o the_o whole_a christian_a church_n throughout_o the_o world._n sure_o they_o must_v be_v very_o weighty_a reason_n or_o else_o they_o will_v never_o bear_v down_o so_o great_a a_o weight_n as_o lie_v in_o the_o other_o scale_n against_o they_o do_v he_o show_v that_o god_n have_v retract_v his_o first_o grant_n that_o he_o have_v repeal_v his_o old_a law_n and_o establish_a one_o quite_o contrary_a in_o the_o room_n of_o it_o do_v he_o show_v that_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o thing_n be_v change_v so_o that_o if_o the_o primitive_a father_n be_v alive_a again_o they_o will_v now_o with_o as_o much_o earnestness_n dissuade_v layman_n from_o read_v the_o scripture_n as_o they_o former_o exhort_v they_o to_o it_o have_v he_o do_v thus_o he_o have_v speak_v to_o the_o purpose_n but_o alas_o we_o find_v nothing_o of_o this_o nor_o any_o thing_n like_o it_o what_o then_o be_v his_o reason_n you_o shall_v now_o hear_v and_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o represent_v they_o to_o the_o best_a advantage_n without_o abate_v one_o grain_n of_o their_o just_a weight_n they_o be_v all_o reducible_a to_o this_o one_o general_a head_n viz._n the_o mischief_n that_o arise_v from_o the_o promiscuous_a read_n of_o the_o scripture_n several_a of_o which_o he_o mention_n and_o insist_o upon_o and_o then_o acquaint_v call_v layman_n book_n though_o by_o the_o confession_n of_o many_o of_o their_o own_o writer_n they_o be_v horrible_o abuse_v by_o the_o vulgar_a but_o to_o pass_v that_o this_o be_v the_o argument_n they_o common_o insist_v upon_o and_o though_o it_o have_v be_v wretched_o baffle_v again_o and_o again_o yet_o for_o want_v of_o a_o better_a it_o be_v upon_o every_o occasion_n dress_v up_o anew_o and_o urge_v with_o as_o brisk_a a_o confidence_n as_o if_o it_o have_v never_o before_o be_v hear_v of_o he_o say_v he_o do_v sincere_o respect_n honour_n and_o reverence_v the_o scripture_n 44._o scripture_n chap._n 6._o p._n 44._o but_o methinks_v he_o express_v his_o respect_n and_o reverence_n as_o untoward_o as_o the_o lindian_o do_v towards_o their_o god_n hercules_n who_o they_o worship_v by_o throw_v stone_n at_o he_o for_o what_o be_v this_o but_o to_o say_v that_o the_o bible_n be_v the_o most_o dangerous_a book_n in_o the_o world_n since_o a_o layman_n can_v read_v it_o without_o danger_n of_o be_v eternal_o undo_v by_o it_o and_o if_o this_o be_v to_o honour_n and_o reverence_v the_o scripture_n i_o know_v not_o what_o it_o be_v to_o revile_v it_o the_o representer_n will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o false_a inference_n i_o shall_v be_v glad_a if_o he_o can_v make_v that_o appear_v for_o nothing_o seem_v to_o follow_v more_o natural_o from_o the_o premise_n he_o will_v say_v he_o do_v not_o impute_v these_o mischief_n to_o the_o scripture_n itself_o but_o to_o man_n abuse_n of_o it_o 52._o it_o chap._n 7._o p._n 52._o what_o then_o the_o danger_n be_v not_o the_o less_o if_o it_o be_v so_o apt_a to_o be_v abuse_v that_o scarce_o any_o man_n can_v read_v it_o who_o will_v not_o so_o abuse_v it_o let_v we_o suppose_v there_o be_v two_o thing_n the_o one_o of_o which_o be_v a_o excellent_a antidote_n if_o right_o use_v but_o so_o hard_a a_o matter_n it_o be_v so_o to_o use_v it_o that_o not_o one_o in_o a_o hundred_o can_v be_v find_v to_o who_o it_o do_v not_o turn_v to_o poison_n the_o other_o be_v itself_o a_o rank_a poison_n yet_o may_v be_v so_o temper_v and_o take_v with_o that_o caution_n that_o it_o may_v become_v as_o among_o the_o protestant_n almost_o every_o schoolman_n be_v the_o head_n of_o a_o sect_n and_o the_o controversy_n between_o the_o lutheran_n and_o the_o calvinist_n be_v not_o so_o many_o as_o between_o the_o thomist_n and_o the_o scotist_n the_o dissension_n between_o the_o regular_a and_o secular_a priest_n have_v last_v already_o for_o some_o age_n and_o be_v likely_a still_o to_o
