clement_n be_v bishop_n of_o rome_n it_o be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v insinuate_v here_o that_o the_o quite_o contrary_a be_v from_o this_o very_a place_n most_o evident_a he_o may_v as_o well_o there_o be_v undoubted_o one_o bishop_n at_o least_o in_o every_o particular_a city_n so_o soon_o as_o there_o be_v any_o in_o the_o world_n this_o place_n of_o hermas_n if_o it_o bear_v d._n m_n inference_n and_o give_v a_o power_n to_o clement_n over_o foreign_a city_n insinuat_v nothing_o of_o a_o bishop_n dignity_n above_o presbyter_n but_o of_o the_o power_n of_o one_o bishop_n over_o another_o or_o rather_o of_o a_o pope_n over_o other_o church_n a_o falsehood_n most_o unanimous_o explode_v by_o cyprian_a jerome_n augustine_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o ancient_n d._n m._n will_v usurp_v any_o other_o authority_n in_o god_n religion_n than_o become_v a_o member_n in_o christ_n body_n that_o first_o he_o be_v admonish_v according_a to_o god_n word_n etc._n etc._n read_v pray_v the_o rest_n of_o this_o exhortation_n and_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o never_o be_v light_n more_o opposite_a to_o darkness_n than_o knox_n be_v to_o their_o ceremony_n and_o hierarchy_n and_o in_o a_o word_n their_o whole_a way_n whatsoever_o they_o contend_v for_o in_o opposition_n to_o the_o church_n of_o scotland_n now_o suppose_v which_o yet_o he_o be_v far_o from_o do_v that_o knox_n allow_v they_o some_o umbrage_n of_o imparity_n shall_v they_o not_o notwithstanding_o provide_v they_o close_v with_o what_o he_o say_v here_o and_o elsewhere_o real_o relinquish_v what_o they_o call_v the_o churchof_a england_n way_n and_o come_v over_o unto_o we_o yea_o be_v they_o according_a to_o knox_n exhortation_n strip_v of_o the_o hope_v their_o exorbitant_a gain_n ease_n and_o grandour_n &c_n &c_n they_o shall_v soon_o also_o send_v pack_v their_o plea_n for_o imparity_n this_o be_v a_o mere_a shroud_n and_o pretext_n to_o cover_v these_o enormity_n from_o which_o knox_n so_o warm_o dehort_v and_o whieh_a with_o less_o colour_n of_o modesty_n can_v be_v sustain_v add_v hereto_o that_o see_v knox_n so_o zealous_o require_v express_v and_o positive_a warrant_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o every_o thing_n in_o the_o worship_n government_n and_o discipline_n of_o the_o church_n and_o see_v hitherto_o none_o have_v dar_v to_o aver_v that_o he_o be_v for_o the_o divine_a right_n of_o prelacy_n yea_o even_o our_o author_n himself_o adventure_n not_o plain_o to_o assert_v so_o much_o but_o only_o labour_v to_o make_v knox_n to_o account_v it_o lawful_a and_o innocent_a and_o to_o speak_v nothing_o against_o it_o it_o must_v undeniable_o follow_v that_o he_o be_v for_o a_o divine_a right_n of_o parity_n §_o 13._o do_v not_o knox_n continue_v our_o author_n write_v and_o bear_v the_o letter_n send_v by_o the_o superintendent_o minister_n and_o commissioner_n of_o the_o church_n within_o the_o realm_n of_o scotland_n to_o their_o brethren_n the_o bishop_n and_o pastor_n in_o england_n anno_fw-la 1566_o do_v not_o he_o in_o that_o same_o title_n of_o that_o same_o letter_n acknowledge_v that_o these_o brethren_n bishop_n and_o pastor_n of_o england_n have_v renounce_v the_o roman_a antichrist_n and_o profess_v the_o lord_n jesus_n in_o sincerity_n and_o do_v not_o the_o letter_n all_o alongst_o allow_v of_o the_o episcopal_a power_n and_o authority_n of_o these_o english_a bishop_n but_o have_v never_o a_o protestant_n to_o do_v with_o a_o abbot_n prior_n or_o some_o other_o such_o popish_a officer_n who_o office_n he_o do_v not_o allow_v may_v he_o not_o therefore_o speak_v or_o write_v to_o he_o in_o such_o term_n without_o which_o he_o shall_v either_o not_o have_v be_v understand_v or_o his_o letter_n or_o his_o discourse_n be_v altogether_o uneffectual_a although_o then_o it_o can_v be_v prove_v they_o have_v give_v bishop_n the_o distinguish_a title_n they_o assume_v by_o no_o good_a logic_n can_v it_o be_v infer_v that_o they_o account_v the_o office_n as_o it_o be_v distinguish_v from_o any_o other_o pastor_n lawful_a which_o yet_o can_v never_o be_v prove_v nor_o any_o thing_n conclude_v from_o the_o letter_n save_v that_o they_o take_v bishop_n and_o pastor_n for_o synonymous_a term_n moreover_o it_o will_v no_o more_o follow_v that_o they_o count_v episcopacy_n lawful_a than_o that_o they_o esteem_v so_o of_o the_o surplice_n corner-cap_n and_o tippet_n which_o yet_o in_o the_o same_o letter_n they_o make_v the_o mark_n of_o the_o odious_a beast_n they_o there_o indeed_o acknowledge_v the_o english_a to_o have_v renounce_v the_o roman_a antichrist_n but_o so_o as_o notwithstanding_o to_o have_v retain_v divers_a of_o his_o abomination_n whereof_o they_o name_v none_o but_o only_o the_o most_o notorious_a of_o these_o which_o the_o then_o present_a english_a controversy_n give_v occasion_n to_o mention_v the_o rest_n of_o his_o discourse_n on_o this_o head_n lean_v on_o this_o that_o our_o superintendent_o be_v real_o diocesan_n bishop_n of_o who_o more_o anon_o and_o well_o may_v i_o deny_v it_o be_v there_o no_o more_o than_o the_o doctrine_n
